This was such a sad dining experience. The coffee was cold, and they give you milk instead of cream or half n half. My eggs were so undone, they looked like literal snot. The bacon was burnt and had the texture of rawhide. The worst part of the meal was the potatoes (see photo). These poor potatoes were raw and burnt at the same time! They gave me a mountain of this crispy burnt mush, with raw peices. This restaurant is a sad disappointment compared to the Horsemans Haven I knew as a kid.

Google
BEST Green chile cheeseburger! I'm a native New Mexican and was raised on Hatch Green chiles. Houseman's Haven is the place to go for your spice fix. Service was great, good was basic but delicious.

Google
Horseman's Haven is always good! No fuss, no frills breakfast, but very filling and good flavor! Everything was great about my breakfast this morning!

Google
Great place for breakfast/brunch. Local spot that is very consistent especially for the Steak and eggs that I order. Coworkers consistently mention the salsas are the hottest so if your into heat, do so. The same chefs all the time and very attentive to your cup of coffee. Great price point and HUGE PORTIONS!

Google
This place is amazing and worth the wait, if there is one. They seemed pretty busy, because parking was full up front, when we arrived on a Saturday around 6 but when we went I side it wasn't bad. They seated us right away and got us our drinks, we both got tea & lemonaid. We both got the 3D Burrito, his had ground beef and cheese (my fiance highly recommends the ground beef), and green and mine had Carne Adovada and cheese with red. They came out amazing such a good Burrito was enough for my fiance to barely finish, I had about half left over. My fiance has been eati g here since he was a kid and they survived covid, lets keep this place open!!! We are definitely coming here again as soon as we can.

I'll definitely be back when I have more time to savor my meal!!! What a great crew.

Google
Ordered a HANDHELD breakfast Burrito with green chili, when I got to my location to eat I found a soggy overfilled tortilla and almost no green chili insight. This burrito was impossible to handhold and I’m all about value for money but if it’s going to be a sloppy mess at least put it in a container rather than super thin foil. Trying to eat this thing was comedic and when I went back in to ask for green chili since there was almost none they said it would be an extra three dollars since they could see a TINY bit. This place used to be great 15 years ago .

Worth a stop if you are in Santa Fe. Servers were efficient and fast. Food was really good. I enjoy the red chile here. If you enjoy your food nuclear hot, than try the level II green chile.

Yelp
Remarkableeeeeee! I've been to this location four or five times and the outcome is always the same. Whoa doggy that bronc' bucks, kicks and throws you and your tastebuds in the best of ways. You'll be left in awe which is why this is one of the top five Mexican restaurants in America. Their level one is perfect and plenty Scoville. Level two is like inviting the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse to ride roughshod on your tongue. Even some of the staff members refuse it in concept let alone practice. As yelper Heather M. put it: 'Wear your game face, Gringo, or maybe just order your chile on the side, 'cause Horseman's Haven will punch you in the face, Gabacho.' For the record, I've always ordered by the bowl. Be careful though.

Yelp
Horseman's is a true New Mexican spot, our family has been coming here for generations. My aunt waitressed here in the 70's. Every time I'm in town I make it a point to come eat here. Always had the hottest chili, don't order the level 2 unless you know what you're doing. Best honey and the best sopapillas. Not anymore. Service was horrendous, honey in packets, the food not only had zero heat, it had zero flavor. I had the carne adovada plate and honestly it tasted like cardboard. Huevos rancheros was so bland and disappointing we'd have been better off going to Applebee's down the road. I'm utterly dismayed. At least the sopapillas are still good, that was the only positive. They had several hiring signs up so I pray it's just a transitional phase, and we had unusually poor experience. But the food was so absolutely poor I really don't see myself going back.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this spot next to a gas station. It was on No Reservations but it was a little out of town so we weren't sure we would make it. Stopping for gas made it destiny:) The service was great and the food was delicious! The green chili was hot and tasty! So glad we made it to visit!

Yelp
Food was good. I had the handheld burrito. Problem it was so stuffed you couldn't close it like a burrito. I suggest a lot less potatoes. The other plate had a lot of potatoes too. As for service, please pay attention to your customers. Come back and check on them see how they are doing a bit after you bring the food. Visiting Santa Fe, have a bite here.

Yelp
Horseman's Haven is iconic Santa Fe, even though some of us still think of this as the "new location." It's worth a visit. The food is always good (although not my favorite chile on earth) and always piquant (don't mess with the Level II stuff unless you're hardcore), and it comes out fast. Service is solid, attentive and pleasant. The restaurant itself never feels pleasant and cozy to me, there are sometimes derelicts in the parking lot (one followed me in yesterday and proceeded to tweak his way begging around the room before a waitress ejected him - drugs are bad, kids) and the bathrooms are always borderline, but there's plenty of seating and I always come away from my visits with a good feeling. Prices have gone up, but you get a lot of food for your money. Think twice about ordering a side dish; you probably won't need it. The coffee is remarkably good for a diner of this sort.

Yelp
This place had been on my list for a while and finally made it in. Cute place, pretty friendly staff. Let me start by saying that usually when posole is part of the meal instead of rice or potato's it always seems kind of blah. No way José, I think the posole was my favorite part of the entire meal!! It took me back to my grandmas posole. It was amazing, made me think I should have ordered posole instead as my meal. The green chile was so good, the red was good but green gets my vote at Horseman's Haven. Rest of the meal was really tasty. I did enjoy it and I'd definitely return for a bowl of posole and to try other items.

Yelp
Come here! Order the ground beef burrito with spicy green chili! Mic Drop! If you are brave...order the level 2 green chili! It will make your ears humm!

Yelp
Good food. Excellent service. Great sopapillas. Nice ambiance, and big glasses of iced tea.

Yelp
The real NM deal! Huge portions. Friendly service. Highly recommrnded. All the food was earthy and delicious.

Yelp
This place has delicious food!!! We ordered a burger (and added green chile and cheese), the carne adovada plate and the taco plate with green chile. Wow everything was so good. The service was excellent too.

Yelp
This place is bigger than it looks from the outside. It's great for groups with big tables everywhere. I got the green chile stew and wow it was flavorful and SPICY! If you can't handle spice I wouldn't get that. I couldn't eat much because of how spicy it was. I'd like to go back and try other things on their menu.
google avatar

Yelp
Ah what a taste. But as a critic I want to talk about the positives and negatives. We had two dishes and both definitely delicious, especially the green chili sauce. They provide enough food to take home for the average person and that makes it worth the price. But I had to go up and ask for silverware, never got water cups and realized later that we had to pay in the front. This could have been fixed from the waiters/ workers coming to us at any time instead of talking, and a simple sign at the start that told you where to pay if they didn't tell us. I was just passing by and I don't think I'll go back, but the food was great, don't get me wrong there.

Yelp
Fire!!!! Straight up incredibly delicious food and if you want HOT green chile they have it here. I can't say enough about how amazing the food is here - the burgers especially just incredible. Super down to earth atmosphere and the staff are quick and helpful. There definitely something special about Horseman's Haven and I highly recommend stopping by.

Yelp
Food and service were ok. But why eat there when there so many really excellent places in Santa Fe to get a really good breakfast.

Yelp
On the way for a fund day of fishing and decided to stop in for breakfast. This little quaint breakfast spot was busy but we found a spot to sit. We ordered the huevos rancheros. I loved that they had it in blue corn tortillas. The potato's we a little crispy and but soft as well. We also ordered the breakfast burrito. The red Chile was full of flavor, not spicy at all, but I did not mind as it had amazing flavor to go with the dish. The green chile however had a kick to it, but did not overwhelm the dish. The prices were reasonable for the portions of food you get. This is a definite must go to spot if you visit Santa Fe.

Yelp
It's a classic diner. Straightforward, good food. The chile is delicious and hot. The breakfast is great, just tell them to go light on the salt!

Yelp
Great chicharrone & bean burrito w green! The green chile had just the right kick to it. I'll be eating here every time back in Santa Fe!

Yelp
Whenever someone's going to Santa Fe and asks me where to eat, Horseman's Haven tops the list for New Mexican food. Situated far down Cerrillos from the Plaza (next to a gas station), this no-frills place caters mostly to locals. It's known for the hottest green chile in town, but offers so much more. We rolled in for breakfast and sat down. No wait. Servers came quickly and we had drinks in no time. After ordering, we had time to take in the surroundings, which reflect the varied tastes of people who live here. MMA event posters. A longhorn rack above the kitchen window. Vigas in the ceiling. Figurines of horses and livestock. Various paintings, prints, and busts. In a short few minutes, our food arrived. Adovada Enchiladas with Green Chile This dish is listed in my Yelp profile as what I'd choose for my last meal on Earth. Thankfully, that wasn't the case, but it was incredible, as always. Blue corn tortillas are layered with rich, delectable chunks of adovada and topped with cheese and green Chile that commands your attention, but isn't crazy hot and plays well with the red adovada. The quality of chile here stands out. It comes with beans, a side of posole, and a tortilla. The rest of the family ate traditional breakfast items--eggs, bacon, pancakes, toast. Each was good quality and up to par. Everything starts with quality ingredients and tastes great. Both red and green are on the hot side of average and rich in flavor. That's square one for New Mexican food. I vouch for the enchiladas with any filling, the huevos rancheros, and the sopapillas. Level 2 This special green chile comes only as a side. Why? It scorches. While paying, I asked if I could try it. I got a few chips, a little cup of phosphorescent green stuff--and an extra large cup of ice water.. My mouth was on fire, my tongue swelled up,before running next door to get a pint of ice cream at the gas station. It took an hour to speak again. Be careful! Horseman's Haven is a must-stop for me when I'm in town. Don't come if you want to see and be seen or for instagram. Come for incredible New Mexican food in a low-key setting.

Yelp
Stopped in here based on reviews and weren't disappointed. Greeted at the door and told to seat ourselves. Pleasant waitress provided menus and took our drink order. We ordered a Frito pie as an appetizer and it arrived quickly, was hot, both with heat and green chilies and was delicious. We both ordered the steak and eggs and a perfectly cooked rib steak and eggs was delivered timely just after we finished the Frito pie. The steak and eggs quickly went the way of the Frito pie for a very satisfying meal. Prices are reasonable and I highly recommend them.

Yelp
We love this place. Huge glasses of ice water! Reliable New Mexican cuisine, the chile sauces are *very* warming. I always order the chicken enchiladas and there's plenty of chicken in there. Generous portions. Good prices. Friendly service.

Yelp
I just read a detailed review on a Facebook foodies page regarding how a disable vet was treated here. Let me first say my meals here have been OK, not good or bad enough to warrant a review. But having read about how a man who put his life on the line while serving his country was treated (wasn't served at all) is enough to turn me off on HHC forever. So ciao baby!

Brian G.

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant in the world. I've traveled, and I can't find a better meal than here. I can't wait to visit NM again, just to visit this place.

Yelp
We went to Horseman Haven for breakfast. It was delicious. The service also very good! Highly recommended

Yelp
Great food. Great service. Clean and friendly atmosphere. Cafe counter, booths or tables. New Mexican food and sandwiches.

Melody M.

Yelp
What a treasure! Breakfast was amazing, the red sauce on the omelet was very tasty and the green sauce on my burrito rivals some of the best I've had. Great family run business, be sure and support them.

Yelp
We were looking for green chili stew and just picked this place because of reviews and it did not disappoint!! My husband says the green chili stew was without a doubt the best he had ever eaten! I ordered chicken quesadilla but it was actually shredded chicken wrapped in blue tortillas (3) with red salsa. It was delicious! And portions were huge. Just when we thought it couldn't get any better, they brought us 2 HUGE sopapillas that were melt in your mouth amazing!! Service was great! Everything was so good we went back the next morning for breakfast. Huge Pancakes & breakfast burrito were great and the waiter brought us 2 more sopapillas with honey!!

Mercedes R.

Yelp
He claims it makes everything fresh. Worst new Mexican restaurant we've ever eaten at!

Yelp
Choice of hotness of chili on dishes ordered. Waitress offered opinions that helped identify what we wanted to order

Yelp
Stopped here got lunch after a long trip yesterday and work. I'd have to agree with many other reviewers it was excellent. Breakfast was still available so I got the heuvos rancheros and it was great. The green chile on top had a lot of zip! It was hot but grew up in Az a long time ago so was hoping for that. Eggs were done perfectly and the tortilla on the side was great. The beans and potatoes that came with it were all so good together I had a hard time stopping from the whole plate which was huge. Service was excellent and friendly. Kind of old school vibe to it which was perfect ambience for the place. Will be back next trip. Maybe even breakfast again before I head home tomorrow!

Yelp
This place is an old school mom and pop sorta place. I always stopped here for breakfast on the way from Albuquerque to Taos and looked forward to the stop. The chili is some of the best in New Mexico. The staff is very attentive and make the experience great. This was my first time stopping for lunch. I ordered the cheeseburger and some French toast for dessert. The burger was delicious and served with potatoes that were somewhere between French fries and mashed potatoes with nice seasoning. The French toast was delicious. My only suggestion would be to offer some whipped cream with it. I have been here many times and will return again.

Yelp
Recently enjoyed a short little getaway in Santa Fe. Stayed at a cute spot on the outskirts of the plaza, went to a fancy dinner then to a concert at the Bridge. The next morning we had a lazy start and ended up at the Horseman's Haven Cafe for late breakfast, hell, I guess it was technically brunch. Never been here, and might not have ventured in without the recommendation but I was happy I did! The place is quite unassuming nestled closely to a gas station but sometimes those are the gems that overlooked. Horseman's Haven is New Mexican food fare and for us locals we just can't ever seem to get enough! You'll find that family friendly service and home cooked meal feel here. I pecked at some lunch and breakfast items since I couldn't decide. Pancakes and the carne adovada breakfast plate. The stack came with two huge pancakes, that I regret to say I was unable to finish. The plate was covered with carne adovada, topped with two eggs and a generous side of potatoes. Needless to say, I was full and content after eating as much as I could. We waited longer to be sat than we did to get out food. You should check em out, I'm confident you will be as happy and full as I was by the end of your visit.

Yelp
I feel like the 5 stars ratings for this place are extremely false. Very greasy food that makes you feel sick, unclean establishment. Never again. These ratings are not true.

Yelp
Another great lunch!!! Father-in-law had never been here...so...he's hooked delish breakfast n lunch, great service, bathrooms very good...a plus when eating out!!! Food consistently good, sometimes packed, always welcoming, you won't leave feeling hungry...That's guaranteed Come feeling Leavegreat size drinks and dishes, very good variety of goodies on the menu....if you're traveling..."H Haven Cafe " is a MUST!!!! Close to highway's, fuel and lodging, you'll never be disappointed. Don't expect plush opulence, this has southwest appeal in simple form! A "hole in the Wall"......That is a complement, as these Resturant/diner/cafés are the best, when it comes to noshing on the fly!!! Limited parking, seating, several booths n table combinations, But Worth any wait!!! Come to Eat...Leave sated and happy

Will L.

Yelp
We showed up at 2:00pm and there was only three other couples in eating put are order in and got are food . Then we needed some red chili after waiting 15 minutes and no one coming by we had to yell out to one of the works that we needed some help. The service was bad and the food was just all right.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this cozy diner-style breakfast spot. Their homemade Chile Verde alongside classic Huevos Rancheros and burritos offer a fantastic combo of heat and sweetness. Perfect comforting, flavorful start to the day

A. C. L.

Yelp
Food. the BEST green chile. Really. The best. Small, unpretentious, nice people. And REALLY REALLY the very best green chile.

Lauren A.

Yelp
The fattest, yummiest breakfast burrito I've ever had. Hand-held burrito requires at least two hands to hold.

Jason E.

Yelp
Absolutely Amazing. You have to get out of the Sante Fe square and venture to Horseman's Haven Cafe. Authentic real New Mexican food. Tried 5 different items and all were incredible.
google avatar

Patricia M.

Yelp
#2 hot or don't go because it's a diner style restaurant but you'd be missing out. BIG TIME!

Amanda M.

Yelp
Great local spot. Can go wrong with anything about your order in my opinion. Chile has good flavor and is one of the hottest

Yelp
OMG!!! Green Chile is the best in town on anything they make. It's so delicious and there green cheeseburgers are amazing.

Yelp
I wouldn't have known about this little cafe/diner located in the same compound of a gas station if it wasn't for Anthony Bourdain(AB): Parts Unknown S2,E3. What really stick to me was when he couldn't handle the green chile (GC). The place actually claim it's the spiciest chile around town. So, we drove from downtown to this place to conquer the hottest chile (I actually chickened out. Haha). If you are driving down 14, look for the Phillips 66 gas station sign. Although, the cafe sign is facing the main road, it can be easily missed. We didn't order what exactly AB had. We had their Green Chile Burger. Smothered with all that green chile (level 1) goodness. We were ready to get the level 2 green chile but the lady who helped us warned us that it is very, very spicy to the point that she was almost begging us not to get it. We obliged. And it was the best decision ever. It was nice of her to give us a sample of that evil sauce so we could at least try it. The regular green chile is spicy enough to make you pause after the second bite. I tried putting a teaspoonful of the level 2 GC and surely she wasn't kidding about how spicy it is! It is great for sporadically seasoning your sides but never for smothering your food. It was that spicy! We were sweating and sniffling at the end of our very casual but fully satisfactory meal. This place offer breakfast all day and they have lunch and dinner special. It doesn't matter what food you order but having GC smothered on your food is the way to go. We even went back to buy 4 pints(2 reg. 2 level 2) of their GC to take home before hitting the road back to TX. They actually have pints of frozen GC for tourists to take home This place is a must while in Santa Fe.

Yelp
Solid Green Chile. Been driving past for years. Finally stopped in. Did not disappoint. Nothing fancy just good food with great Chile. Green has some great flavor with just enough heat. Only thing I would do differently is order a side of green for the potatoes. Will be back.
google avatar

Frank M.

Yelp
Do you like your Chile hot? If so, this is the place for you! My wife and I occasionally frequent the Horseman Haven. But the Chile is hot enough that we can't really carry on a coherent conversation. I've been told my earlobes sweet when I eat here. Good food but be prepared for hot (spicy, not temperature).

Peter H.

Yelp
Way too expensive, prices have doubled in 3-4 years. They lost the charm, should just go big time,
google avatar

Yelp
Came here 12/21 and the food and service were awful. They have been hit VERY hard by 'rona. I ordered the green chili cheeseburger, which I have had in the past, and there were a few problems. A) it wasn't the same, at all. Like a greasy spoon burger. It used to be served open face with cottage fries and garnishes, very appetizing and, in fact, one of the most popular dishes among a lot of locals. No longer, and B) after I had finished my marginal and disappointing burger, another burger that had been partially eaten was brought to my table. I asked the server why he would bring something like this to someone's table, and he replied "Because I was told to." I replied to him "Well, this is me telling you to take it away. First of all I've finished my meal and am ready to leave, and, um...."CAN'T YOU SEE THAT SOMEONE HAS ALREADY STARTED EATING THIS HAMBURGER????" After about 20 meals here I am not coming back, at least until their cook from Mexico, who left a white back, returns. He is the guy that looked out and smiled at everyone who came in and was the heart of this establishment, but he left several months ago. I understand he does not plan to come back. And neither do I. Sayonara, Horseman's Haven.
