Hostal de La Gavina (Costa Brava, Catalonia) 1 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Even back in 1932, when it first opened, Hostal de la Gavina must have felt like something of a throwback. Set amidst the sweeping lawns and rocky cliffs of a promontory jutting out into the Mediterranean, it’s a meticulously well-kept world of priceless antiques, elaborate tapestries, fine silks and glinting candle-lit chandeliers. Walking the grounds, you half expect to bump into Dalí working en plein air on some rocky overlook, or Ava Gardner sunning by the pool, as young as they were when they first signed the guest book way back when. If Barcelona is just an hour down the coast (and it is), it’s also at least half a century away — Hostal de la Gavina, like much of Catalonia’s spectacular Costa Brava, remains wondrously lost in time." - Tablet Hotels

This is the best 5 star hotels we have stayed at. This property has its own unique charm. This is a 100 years old place but very well kept. I loved its vintage classic style. The amazing view is a 10/10. Very relaxing and away from the noise. Excellent service from the staff as well as the lady manager there ( sorry can not remember her name but she said she recently started there) we brought our 2 fur babies who were very well taken care of. This place is very pet friendly. The restaurants are really good and they do have a Michelin star restaurant as well. I definitely recommend this hotel 🤗🤗

This 200 hindered year old Hotel is nestled atop the Beach of Platja De San Pol. It offers an incredible view of the bay and beaches below that are only minutes on foot. Inside the hotel is classically decorated in time appropriate furniture bringing you back in time to the 1800’s. You room however will be tastefully updated with modern amenities and current comforts. ||I highly recommend above all else to book reservations anywhere you want to eat, as most restaurants are at capacity prior to your arrival. There’s plenty of options to eat, relax, and shop! ||The service here is impeccable with all hotel staff eager to serve in anyway possible. If you love days at the pool, they offer a massive infinity edge pool cliffside with a stunning view. The food menu at the pool is very limited, but mostly bar service focused. The seating is ample so no need to rush to reserve seats, unless you are wanting a private Cabana with your own shower and restroom I’d book those ahead. ||The area is charming and mostly filled with Spanish locals taking holiday and second home owners that visit for the summer. I highly recommend this as a destination stay, and you have options to visit great Medieval Towns like Girona and Begur for day trips.

Really lovely hotel if you like good old fashioned riviera glamour. We stayed for 2 nights and throughout our stay the staff were all really lovely and attentive. I asked to borrow a steamer for my dress and it was with us within minutes. The main "gastronomic" restaurant was closed both nights were were there. We ate on the lawn/terrace the first night. The food was good, although the service was a little slow but it seemed like that was a function of the fact the main restaurant was closed as they were very busy and it seemed some staff on the terrace weren't that familiar with their systems. The second night we had dinner at the Taverna del Mar (related but outside of the resort) which was excellent. Will review that separately. ||The walk around the cliffs was really lovely with some incredible views and lots of info on the old hollywood links of the place.

Gorgeous views and beautiful hotel. The decor is old school and a little stuffy but I appreciated that vibe for what I was there for. The water temperature is difficult to regulate and I couldn’t figure out how to turn the lamps on the side table in and off without getting out of bed to flip the switch. Very comfy robes. The breakfast buffet is fabulous. The pool is great. Nice little gym. Be sure to take a walk along the coastal path.

Spectacular out of the way luxury hotel on the Costa Brava, filled with local antiques and gorgeous views. Food is fabulous, service is attentive and accommodating. The salt water pool is frankly outstanding. Words don't do it justice and the pictures only come close! However it is a little remote. The patio restaurant is quite relaxed in its pace. Rooms are charmingly quirky, with an eclectic collection of vintage furniture, but beds are on the small side and our 'king' was (as is often the case in Europe) two twin mattress pushed together with a topper. All this suits us, as we were happy to relax on vacation time, and the history and antiquing interst are a bonus. However it may not be to everyone's taste, especially if you are expecting generic international luxury bland, or rapid fire American style 're-fueling' with food. For us, it was the perfect indulgent getaway with the family!

It's a good hotel, has rooms with enough space, and toilets. Has a cafe and restaurant. The hotel has a pretty big area, with a pool and a garden, in which weddings are often hosted. Room service is good, and the Hotel has a good amount of workers. The rooms in the hotel get cleaned pretty often, and the sheets are changed regularly.

A lovely hotel in a beautif setting. We had a very good classic room with a balcony and a view over both sides of the promentory. The staff were lovely and we liked the traditional design. So much care must have been taken when it was built to incorporate Catalan craftsmanship with a dash of modernity. The bathroom was excellent with a spacious shower. There were several restaurants to choose from. It was a very relaxing week and we hope to return. One of our best holidays.

We stayed in the 2 bedroom garden suite so our dogs would have a yard area. It is not fenced but has a privacy hedge around the small grass yard area off the covered back porch. It was very spacious in the living area with comfortable couches and a small round dining table. Being able to come and go from the back porch was nice and a shorter walk to most places. The grounds of the hotel are very beautiful and peaceful and there were a few weddings during our stay, very pretty and not a noise problem. We ate at all the restaurants and in the room and have no complaints. Candlelight is a Michelin restaurant and was a perfect place for a special dinner. It is not up to par with most other Michelin restaurants however.
