Only dined here. Went with highish expectations following local suggestion to dine here from a winemaker. He suggested also La Balance and Graipot, but really urged dining at HSG. The setting is excellent, particularly if you can nab a spot outside on the terrace, looking back at the historical building. Service is patchy - Saturday night looked like school boy waiter night with revolving attendees at the table. Friendly though. Wine was left unpoured and out of reach at times (save a tactical move on the open bottle off the pouring table), the lights got flicked on in the garden at twilight which was a touch affronting. Food was average to ok. Amuse bouche with foie gras was dessert sweet but fine, the classic regional dish of Bresse chicken with vin jaune sauce should have been just that (ok, the morels were pretty good actually) but a half cooked pancake with some corn kernels came with it, and a really stodgy, heavily cheesed slap off mashed potatoes was overkill - and a crisp (stale, dirty oil, inedible) with some leaf set in it was, well, awful. Entree terrine of lamb and vegetables saved things, but what were those chick peas doing there? Anyway, best said that perhaps dishes chosen were poorly decided upon and a repeat visit might clear things - but off the back of this one visit, there won't be a return. Off to try Grapiot, La Balance, Bistrot des Claquets (wine bar) and Les Jardins de St Vincent (wine bar).
