2 Days in Rio de Janeiro

"We recommend heading back to one of the city’s best-known districts and to the Hotel Arpoador. Perfectly situated on the peninsula of the same name, between the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema, the hotel treats its guests to one of the best views of the sea and the entire city, providing a refuge of quiet luxury and elegant, minimalist décor where every single detail has been created to provide maximum comfort for its guests. The building is based around a Modernist concrete and glass design combined with natural materials such as woven straw and wood. The terrace overlooking the beach and ocean boasts a tempting triangular swimming pool, and the hotel also offers additional options to guests such as a sauna, massage room, and yoga classes." - The MICHELIN Guide

Hotel Arpoador (Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro State) 2 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Hotel Arpoador’s location has always been a strength: right at the end of Ipanema, just around the corner from Copacabana, at the base of the peninsula of the same name, which is home to some of Rio de Janeiro’s finest ocean views. And after a thorough redesign by local firm Bernardes Arquitetura, the hotel is an attraction unto itself, a fine example of a modernist concrete-and-glass structure warmed with organic materials like wood and rope." - Tablet Hotels

Hotel Arpoador | Best places to stay in Rio de Janeiro

"Few hotels in Rio have a better location than this beachside tower. It sits right on the sand in Ipanema, affording sweeping views of the entire beach from both the upper floor rooms and the breakfast area. The once modest rooms and public areas have had a full upgrade, with a loose nautical theme. The once dark rooms are now bright – decked out in whites, navy blues, warm woods and wicker, offset by large mirrors and frosted glass bathroom partitions with faux porthole clear patch-windows. It's hard to think of staying anywhere else in Rio de Janeiro while on vacation. This hotel is stylish, convenient and welcoming. The staff are absolutely one of the biggest highlights as everyone is so friendly and professional. They helped as with any travel plans in the city and offered many suggestions for things to do. You can tell that a lot of thought goes into the detail here, as we consistently found ourself impressed by the service. The restaurant's food was wonderful and one of Ipanema's prime locations for breakfast. The amenities such as roof top bar and pool, sauna, beach chair and umbrella service, and spa were welcomed necessities by the end of our trip. Thank you, until next time!

This is our home away from home in Brazil. It is the best location on Ipanema as there is no road to cross to get to the beach. Because of our multiple stays there, we have been in several different rooms. All are impeccable. The restaurant service and food are absolutely top notch. The Arpoador beach amenities are an added bonus, right down to the warm, fresh water pitchers provided to rinse off the sand when returning from the beach. The real magic to a stay here is the service. Each and every staff member is engaged, friendly and attentive to every need and request. Even those of us with limited to no Portuguese. A special shout out to Paolo who went above and beyond to help us figure out how to cross a marathon in the morning in order to get a taxi. He always greeted us and asked if he could help in any way. Mathous (?) and Marcos made sure we were comfortable in the hotel during the five hours we had after check-out.

We enjoyed our stay overall here - especially as we came from a hotel on Copacabana which we were not very satisfied with. Positives: -staff all very friendly including at reception - delicious breakfast dishes - room was clean - great location directly on the beach - nice vibe to have an evening drink here Negatives: - tiny room, felt quite basic more like 3* , no slippers in the room which we usually like .However I did book the most basic room so i would recommend going for a more superior room - every time we came out the lift on the ground floor near the toilet there was not a very pleasant smell - our safe also didn’t work in our room - there was work going on around the rooftop area and pool so we couldn’t really relax while this was going on We also enjoyed a couples massage which was great value for money. I would still recommend this hotel for the area but maybe go for a better room it’s worth paying it.

HOTEL ARPOADOR is a cool and modernist gem in Rio. I was there this year for Carnival in March, and the busy staff were friendly and helpful. |It was so great, I am returning this September (but this time with a room with the ocean views!).|All the staff was great, but Raisa was a rare help for me. She assisted and advised me with local museums and restaurants. I can't wait to get back!|CLIFF NYC

What a dream vacation. My boyfriend and i stayed there for 2night and had a great time. The staff were spectacular!!! Shout out to Ary and Marcio from the beach, always super supportive and friendly. The rooms are small, but super cozy. Plus, i loved all the granado items in the restroom, it smell sooooo good! Breakfast was delicious and the access to the beach is super convenient. I cant wait to go back!

Google
We very much enjoyed our stay at Hotel Arpoador. The staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive. The breakfast selection was great, with us enjoying the hotel's special AP breakfast which really sets you up for the day. The hotel is situated in a good location, right next to the beach, local restaurants and bars. The rooftop offers amazing views of the beach and is a perfect spot to watch the sunset. The only downside is our room looked onto an inside patio so it was dark. Apart from that, I would highly recommend staying at this hotel.

Google
We totally recommend! The location is amazing close to the keys points in the city. ! It’s the only hotel in Rio directly on the beach, without a road separating it from the sand. The restaurant has an amazing views either going for breakfast or catching the sunset drinking some caipirinhas. The whole staff was amazing, friendly, informative and always very very helpful and welcoming. Especially Marcus & Matheus at the front desk. Rodrigo and Bruno at the restaurant were the best!! We spent 5 days in Rio and headed to the Lençois M and we were coming back to Rio we were planing to stay in another hotel. We canceled and decided to come back with Arpoador. We definitely coming back in the future. Thank you for everything!!

Yelp
We had a great 4 night stay at this lovely hotel. Perfectly positioned on the beach. The food at the restaurant was great and reasonable. The staff were wonderful especially SAMUEL HE WAS MOST WELCOMING AND HELPFUL IN EVERY WAY. Our hats off to him and the entire staff. Hope we can come back her again

Yelp
We stayed here on our honeymoon and could not have asked for a better experience. The hotel is basically on the beach, the rooms and facilities are very nice, and the staff is superb. We actually debated between the Fasano and this hotel and actually thought this hotel was much closer to the beach and were thrilled we chose this one! The rooms are a little bigger than we expected and if you get an ocean view room your view is amazing. The included breakfast is a real breakfast and top notch. The pool is small but does the job and has a great view. There is also a sauna which is nice. Every individual staff member was amazing. I have to specifically call out Paulo as he went above and beyond to make our stay excellent! 10/10 and would stay here again.

Yelp
The food is incredible and the staff is super accommodating. I definitely recommend staying at this hotel! It seems to be the only one directly on the beach.

Yelp
I enjoyed staying at this hotel. We booked a room from Friday - Monday. We arrived Friday afternoon, only to find out that my husband accidentally booked only from Saturday - Monday. Oops! No worries, the hotel had a room available, but it was on the street side. After the first night, he said he'd move all of our things to the other room for us on Saturday. Our misstep is your gain, because I got to see both rooms! The difference between street view and ocean view is about R$100 per night. Spring for the ocean view. First off, the view is great! Look at the pictures I posted! For me, it would be worth it just for the view alone, and to fall asleep to the sound of the ocean... But if that isn't enough for you, both the bed AND shower are bigger in the ocean view room. We went from a full size bed to a king bed. That's a huge difference for us. Everyone working at the hotel was professional and most employees spoke English. Marcelo did all of the communication in Portuguese, but I overheard many English speaking clients talking with the front desk staff. There is an excellent restaurant located in the hotel, but I will review that more fully on the page for the restaurant. Your room fee comes with free wifi as well as free breakfast. I wasn't really stoked on the breakfast (like, at all....) but everyone else seemed to like it just fine. Toast, juices, fruits... Eggs in a big metal tray sitting in their own juices... Oof, always grosses me out. But that's a me problem. My breakfasts were mostly just two slices of toast and a chamomile tea. If you're interested in touring the Cristo or Pao de Acucar, take some extra time and plan the trips yourselves. Both places allow you to buy tickets in advance online. Then you can just take a taxi to the locations. I found that the tours were overpriced and didn't give us any time at the locations. We used the hotel to book us a trip to the Cristo, and the tour that they set us up with gave us only 30 minutes up there. It was extremely foggy, so much that we could barely even see the statue. And forget about the view. It was all just white. And there was nothing we could do about it. Because we were on the tour, we had to leave. Had we gone on our own, we could have went to the cafe, dried off a bit, eaten some lunch... Because 45 minutes later, all of the fog burned off. So again - don't use the hotel to book your tours. Use Yelp, Trip Advisor, Google... Do it yourself. Also, don't use the hotel to call you taxis. REALLY. There is an AMAZING app that I've been using here in Brazil called 99 Taxis. You can call a taxi to wherever you are. Kind of like Uber / Lyft for you americans, but ... it's just taxis. Here's why you call your own taxis. They're cheaper. When we took a cab from the airport to our hotel, it ran us R$39. It was NOT a flat fee. It was just a regular metered drive. When we were checking out, I was sitting in a chair and my husband was handling everything in Portuguese. An English speaking man asked the front desk staff to call him a taxi for the airport. They told him it would be R$90. He asked why so much, and they said it's a flat fee between the airport and anywhere. He asked why then it only cost him R$40 to get to the hotel? Then they were clearly improving about the traffic, about peak travel times, etc. Nothing made sense. They called to see if they could "get him a deal", and said they could get him to the airport for R$70. A regular black car pulled up and took him away. I was a bit annoyed because I felt like the dude was definitely just taken advantage of. I texted my husband who then asked the same front desk staff for a taxi to take US to the airport, and they quoted him right away R$45. For the same car, same ride, half the price of what they quoted the English speaking guy. Now, to an extent, that stuff happens in Brasil. And it happens in hotels. Hotels make deals with certain companies, and they get a cut. I get it. But I hated seeing it happen. If you want to save money, call your own taxis, and book your own tours. Don't use that service here at the hotel. Otherwise, the room was comfortable and our stay extremely enjoyable. You can't beat the location of this hotel - directly on Ipanema beach. But why don't they have ice cream for room service?!

Yelp
If you want to experience the best location and hotel amenities in Rio, then look no further. Hotel Arpoador has it all. Best place to catch the famous sunsets in Arpoador, complete with live music. It's situated smack dab in the middle of Zona Sul, where you can walk in both directions of the beach and reach Leme (Posto 1) or Leblon (Posto 12). Where else can you relax on a hammock in your own room in Rio, where you can look out and view the beach that is just outside your balcony window? The rainshower was the best in luxury - offering heritage Granado products and an option to see the beach while you take a refreshing shower. Simply amazing! My only gripes are the front desk and the free daily breakfast options. We've stayed in other Rio hotels where the front desk staff were more quick and very efficient. We were also looking forward to a great breakfast buffet that introduces guests to Brazilian food culture, like pao de queijo and local fruits but these were unfortunately not offered during our stay. Aside from these, we look forward in coming back to this memorable hotel. Parabéns e muito obrigado, Hotel Arpoador!

Yelp
Nice modern hotel at the east end of Ipanema beach. Few rooms are ocean view. Has a nice restaurant & one of the nicest outdoor bars to see the sunset. Well appointed between Copacabana & Ipanema.

Yelp
We had an amazing stay here, the location is as good as it gets... so close to both Copacabana and Ipanema beach its hard to beat. Cristo and the Sugar Loaf are right at your doorstep and the nightlife of Lapa is just a short Uber ride away. The food is amazing (much better than your usual hotel fare) and if you don't fancy going out you can always just enjoy a caipirinha and a bite to eat right out front of the hotel. I can't speak highly enough of the staff, They did everything they could to make my stay absolutely perfect.... and as a non Portuguese speaker they went above and beyond when it came to helping me find my way around Rio. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
We really enjoyed our stay here! The location is the best, only hotel on the beach side of the street at Copacabana and Ipanema. The room was small but clean and tidy. The air conditioner worked like a charm! We had a small fridge which we stocked with groceries from nearby Zon Asul. We had a city view but we didn't mind much, we spent most of our time on foot exploring the food and shops nearby. The hotel has it's own restaurant that sits beachfront - can't beat it! The breakfast included with your stay has tons of food - bread, fruit, meats, cheeses, and fresh juice. We would definitely stay here again. Some of the employees speak English, but they're all very helpful. We splurged on a private transport to the airport upon checkout - $90 reais and worth it. Safe, clean, and air conditioned! It was really affordable considering we booked it last minute (same day!). $809 US for 5 nights! We will definitely be back.

Yelp
A friend tells me this is a wonderful hotel. However I just had a very strange experience: I booked the hotel through Booking.com. Several days later I got an email from the hotel via booking.com's messaging service stating that the hotel would be under renovation during my stay and I had been automatically transferred to a different hotel, the Ipanema Inn. The site did not notify Booking.com of this change, which means there was no way to cancel the reservation through the site since this was a non-refundable booking. The new hotel, Ipanema Inn, is actually listing for significantly less on on other sites than what I paid for Hotel Arporador, plus I obviously would like the chance to make my own decision about where I stay. Nobody is answering the phone when I call the main line for Hotel Arpoador to try to get this straightened out. I have notified Booking.com of this problem and the representative said this is against the rules for the hotel to automatically transfer guests to other hotels without offering refunds and that the site had not been informed of this so Booking.com is going to try to straighten it out. I expect that this will get resolved since it is so clearly inappropriate to transfer guests with no option for a refund, and I still think this hotel seems great and genuinely still wish I could stay there. Still I think this is such a bizarre thing to do to a customer that I had to mention it here. UPDATE: Booking.com, to its credit, took care of this very quickly after I called customer service. However I still think the hotel should have automatically cancelled the reservation and suggested that customers stay at Ipanema Inn rather than automatically transferring them without stating any direction for or option for cancellation.
