I stayed at Rabot Hotel in Saint Lucia for two days in October as part of my birthday trip, and overall, it was a memorable and enjoyable experience. I love chocolate so I was really excited and they had a store in New York City but didn’t survive COVID unfortunately. The entire concept of the hotel everything centered around chocolate is both creative and luxurious. The interior design throughout the property is stunning, with a modern yet natural aesthetic that perfectly complements its surroundings. I also loved the villa layout and architecture; everything felt thoughtfully designed and inviting.
From our villa, as well as from the restaurant and pool area, we had breathtaking views of the Pitons. The hotel even upgraded us from the Simple Lodge we booked to a Luxe Lodge, which was such a kind and appreciated gesture. That upgrade really set a positive tone for our stay. During our time at the hotel, we tried several of their signature experiences, including the spa, chocolate-making class, and cocktail-making class. Each one was unique and added something special to the trip.
The spa experience was exceptional truly one of the best massages I’ve ever had. The masseuse was skilled and attentive, and I remember wishing I could start every day like that. The chocolate-making class was also fun and informative. Although we didn’t do the full “Tree to Bar” cacao farm tour (which I somewhat regret skipping), the class itself was educational and hands-on. The full tour is complimentary, but if you pair it with the chocolate-making experience, it’s around $32, which I found to be very reasonable. We also participated in the cocktail-making class, which was another highlight. The drink menu at the hotel is extensive, and being able to experiment with different chocolate-infused cocktails was a fun twist. When it came to dining, I would rate the food an 8 out of 10. The presentation was lovely, and I especially enjoyed the scallops and the variety of desserts each had a rich, indulgent flavor. The only downside was that service was a bit slower than I prefer, but the staff were friendly and accommodating, so I didn’t feel the need to complain.
The room, however, is where my experience became a bit more complicated. The hotel’s open-air concept is visually beautiful and creates a strong connection to nature but it’s definitely not for everyone. I knew beforehand that the rooms didn’t have air conditioning, which wasn’t a problem since the island breeze kept it fairly comfortable. However, the open-air design also means that you’re sharing your space with the local wildlife. Unfortunately, the bugs were overwhelming for me. My entire left leg was covered in bites, and one night we found a very large cricket (that looked almost like a roach) in our bed. We also encountered a moth in the shower that was unusually large easily the size of my hand. I understand that this is part of the natural environment in Saint Lucia, and I tried to stay calm about it, but coming from New York City where insects are not such a constant presence it definitely made me uneasy. To their credit, the hotel staff were amazing. They handled the situation with kindness and professionalism, offering to assist however they could and even compensating us for some of our incidentals. Their warmth and hospitality truly stood out, and that made it difficult to stay upset for long.
In summary, I would say that Rabot Hotel is a stunning, one-of-a-kind property with excellent service, wonderful experiences, and breathtaking views. I would happily return for a day trip or even an overnight stay to enjoy the spa, restaurant, and activities again. However, for a longer visit, I personally might reconsider the open-air concept due to the insect issue. I traveled to Africa and Asia all over the world but Rabot hotel is easily in my top 3 hotels I’ve stayed at!
If you appreciate nature, love chocolate, and want a serene, eco-luxury experience, Rabot Hotel is a fantastic choice just be prepared for a truly immersive encounter with the tropics.
