"The High Lounge at the Hotel Erwin offers a commanding view of the Venice Beach revelry below and drinks to keep the party going on the rooftop above. The Lifeguard Lemonade, a mix of Grey Goose vodka, lemonade, pomegranate juice, and tropical Red Bull is made for turning lazy summer days into hot summer nights. The lounge is open at noon weekdays and 10 a.m. on weekends." - Marcy Franklin

Hotel Erwin Venice Beach (Los Angeles Area, California) 22 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Venice Beach is quite possibly the most laid-back place in the United States, and the Hotel Erwin does its level best to fit in. With a rooftop lounge called High, it’s obviously taking its cues from Venice’s notoriously weird vibes." - Tablet Hotels

Hotel Erwin | Best places to stay in Los Angeles

"If your California dream is a vision of thong-wearing skaters and muscle-bound men doing their thing by the beach, then you’d do well to check into the Hotel Erwin. The 119-room surfside property embodies all the funky charm of Venice Beach – the quirky, slightly gritty beach community where it’s located, right down to the graffitied bedroom doors. Set in an amazing location just steps from the Pacific Ocean, the hotel is right in the heart of the neighbourhood close to Venice’s top sights. After a day playing in the sand, there’s a rooftop bar (The High Rooftop Lounge) to retire to for catching the ocean sunset. " - Luciana Bellini

The hotel Erwin was great. Great location and it had a balcony. Room was very clean and the staff was exceptional. Breakfast was much better than expected and the rooftop restaurant was amazing. Parking was $55 a day valet only but was safe and secure. The attendants were fast and professional. Venice Beach has been cleaned up alot and was very safe. It's still Venice, you have to take some bad with all of the good, if you don't like the character and uniqueness, stay in Santa Monica. I was very impressed after being a bit worried about the homelessness. The VBPD were working hard to keep things comfortable for tourism.

My grandmother and I had a terrific time at Hotel Erwin. The staff were incredibly accommodating, we both came down with a cold during our time there and were well looked after. Room service was fast and accommodating to Do Not Disturb requests. Frank, the day manager, was superb, my Grandma was joking that she was ready to marry him he was so nice. The breakfast was also nice, good quality, fresh, and a very nice and accommodating server (forget her name but she worked 12/16 & 12/17).||||TLDR: Rooms were nice. Rooftop was great. Location CANNOT be beaten. Service was top-notch.

Google
I am mainly writing this review to thank a breakfast server (Maleek)! This was our first time traveling as new parents with a young infant. Every morning Maleek was so friendly to us, making sure we had a table, very attentive when needed and overall just a very friendly and helpful person! Thank you so much Maleek! Your phenomenal service made our trip that much better! Since I am writing this review I wanted to add on some information about our experience with the room. We were on the 6th floor labeled as “epic view”. It did have an epic view but also came with an epic amount of bass from the rooftop speakers at night. The hotel staff we were checking in with knew that we had a very young child with us. It would have been helpful to be warned that we would be listening to heavy bass till the DJ was done every night. The noises from the street were nothing compared to the bass up top. A little warning next time would have been helpful as we may have asked for a less epic view for a quieter room.

Great place to stay! Central location, boardwalk nearby, mostly quiet and great staff! Dealt with Miguel at the reservations department and many of the folks at the front desk and all were pleasant and friendly to deal with. Nice breakfast, free bikes for the boardwalk, close to a ton of great restaurants and felt like a very secure/safe hotel. We will back for our son's graduation from Loyola in May of 2026!

Google
I’m extremely disappointed with my experience at Hotel Irwin. When I booked my stay, the top Google search result looked exactly like Hotel Irwin’s official website — but it turned out to be a third-party booking site. The way the site is presented makes it very easy to believe you’re booking directly with the hotel. When I later needed to update my reservation, the staff were not just unhelpful — they were shockingly rude. Instead of offering any empathy or understanding, they told me that if I had booked directly with them, they “could normally help,” but since it was a third-party reservation, their “hands were tied.” Then they added, “You need to read next time,” in a tone that was blatantly demeaning. It wasn’t said as helpful advice; it was said to make me feel stupid, and it absolutely did. The lack of professionalism and basic courtesy was astonishing. What concerns me even more is that Hotel Irwin appears to allow their third-party affiliates to present themselves online in a way that looks like the hotel’s official site. The hotel still benefits financially from these bookings, yet refuses to take responsibility or assist guests who are understandably misled by this setup. Between the misleading online experience and the condescending, gaslighting behavior from the staff, I left feeling extremely unhappy with my stay. I will not be returning to Hotel Irwin, and I cannot recommend it. Guests deserve honesty, clarity, and respect — none of which I received here.

Google
Great stay with one of the best included hotel breakfasts I've ever had. If you're planning to spend time in Venice beach, you just can't beat this location. You can walk everywhere. There are lots of eateries and things to do walking distance. The rooftop lounge is stunning and seating space is plentiful. It's the perfect spot to watch the sunset over Venice Beach. The room was well equipped and comfortable. Great stay!

Google
Stayed at Hotel Erwin in Venice Beach and overall, everything was good! 🌊🏖️Prime location steps from the boardwalk, clean modern rooms, awesome rooftop bar with killer ocean views, and super friendly staff. Loved the vibe—perfect for a chill LA getaway.Only downside: the sliding bathroom door. It’s stylish but zero privacy—you hear everything. That was the one truly awful moment and honestly the only thing keeping this from 5 stars.Still, would stay again (maybe request a room without the sliding door next time). Great spot!

Google
I stayed as a guest. Very welcome front desk staff and the hotel gives a nice vibe. Perfect for summer. But I wouldn't say the same for the server in the breakfast area. I went there early for coffee and there was this blonde lady who was putting her veneers in. Yuck. You can go to the restroom for that. Not around food. Later, me and my friend went there to eat and she wouldn't stop talking to us. About random things like her family and asking us questions. We just wanted to relax. The rooftop is decent, we enjoyed the sunset but the food was mediocre. Just teach your servers about hygiene. I don't want to imagine what else is going on there.

Yelp
This review is for the rooftop. Erwin was my 3rd stop that day for my Birthday celebration. The first 2 places were kind of whatever. The staff here was very friendly. They gave me a free shot and a free brownie sundae on top of the drinks we already ordered. Excellent views. Great staff and great vibe overall. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Strongly recommend NOT STAYING at the HOTEL ERWIN. I reserved a stay at Hotel Erwin through Priceline, but upon checking in with my teenage son, we decided to not stay. There is absolutely no privacy in the bathroom doesn't have a door and the toilet is immediately next to the bed. The tiny toilet closet does have a door but it doesn't close (has a 3" gap with the hanging door so you can hear everything). After speaking with the manager, they suggested that we use a toilet down the hall and gave us a pass code like I've heard about in a bad motel! Also, there is no place to change your clothes and the carpet was very old, dirty and frayed. Gross! When I complained, the manager said they would work with Priceline to provide a refund. But after almost 4 weeks, I haven't been able to get a call back from the Hotel Erwin or Priceline, and no refund. Don't stay at this hotel or book with Priceline!

Yelp
Brand newish,my family stayed here for 4 days this week... I did not see their room until this evening. Rooms are small and balcony looks unsafe. There is only one elevator for 6 floors of rooms and maybe 200 people in them at capacity...A small one at that. S000, I was flummoxed... walking down the stairs is easy and up them for stamina giving just the right amount of a "heart rate reading" after you've had a pretty good breakfast. However, what was magnificent is their roof ... THAT ROOFTOP gets 5 stars. And that makes this hotel fabulous to stay in. Appeals to a European crowd and frankly, that was cool too. I hope someone in charge of the hotel reads this and fixes the problem about the single elevator although with my knowledge of that kind of construction and cost, I can't see it happening anytime soon. Location is fabulous and I know I would recommend it to a lot of people.

Threlkeld K.

Yelp
This was the perfect location for us, with an awesome view of the ocean and boardwalk from our balcony. Miguel went above and beyond and made us feel so welcome upon out arrival, and throughout our stay every single one of the staff members was friendly in passing, including the housekeepers, valet and any staff in the lobby. They offered free rentals of beach towels, bikes, boogie boards etc which was really nice. The only downfall was how busy the one elevator would get due to rooftop traffic, but other than that, it was a perfect experience for us.

Yelp
A friend's birthday party held here. There is NO street parking so you are forced to valet-- for $22! There is only one tiny reception desk (and only one staffer) so had to wait behind a backlog of check-ins. Turns out the $22 is the discounted rate--overnight parking is $55 per night she told me. I live in LA and I wouldn't recommend this midget hotel to anyone!

Yelp
VIEWS. Once you arrive on the rooftop bar, the view up there is quite striking with the Venice beach boardwalk and the ocean sprawled across the horizon. The drinks are decent ranging from cocktails, beers, and even slushies. The tables with the good views are often reserved, so if you are considering to stop by, making reservations may be prudent. Still, there's plenty of standing tables and other small tables scattered around the perimeter of the rooftop bar. Definitely a very chill Cali vibe where you can enjoy the views and sip on some cocktails as you plan the rest of the night.

Violet G.

Yelp
The view is spectacular !!! Food and drinks were ok, ambience was good with live DJ. Nice place to have a birthday gathering!! Parking is pricey and hectic.

Yelp
NEVER AGAIN! going to this place! We had an unpleasant experience! Security guard was rude. The first time I came here was a year ago for a friends birthday and decided to come back for fourth of July. The rooftop bar handed us ponchos to keep us warm which was nice of them but never told us that we weren't suppose to keep them. We walked out with them to take a walk to the beach when we went back to ask if we can use the restroom unaware about the policy, the security outside of the hotel asked "where did you girls get those ponchos they should've never let you girsl walk out with that it belongs to the hotel" treating us poorly. We immediately told him that no one told us anything on our way out. He didn't even asked to hand them back and just snatched it away from my friend and started pulling it away from me as well and he said we couldnt use the restroom. He was very rude and unprofessional I feel he could've handle the situtation differently and been more courteous in his approach to customer service. He can't just touch people without their consent that's considered an assault. It was so unnecessary for him to do that, hopefully in the fututre he dosen't make the same mistake and mess with the wrong people.

Yelp
A local favorite to recommend! Fun location, nice & clean rooms. Unbeatable Venice experience. Staff is very professional and courteous as well. Room are a little pricey but with it in my opinion!

Yelp
I stayed here for $300 and our suite was big! It was a big living room and a bedroom and it was modern. We got room service and went on the rooftop to chill. It was worth it. Very nice place to stay and have fun. The rooftop is overlooking the beach and it's a bar! The room is pretty inside.

Yelp
We stayed in downtown LA then moved to Venice for a couple days. Decided to stay near the beach at Hotel Erwin, a boutique hotel, as I prefer boutique over big box chain hotels. First, let me say that many places near the beach are noisy, busy, smell like weed, but you're near the beach so you decide whats most important to you. We were on the 3rd floor (Room 318) and faced another building - one that was under construction- and I have to say, NOT noisy at all. Maybe it was luck or that we weren't right under the rooftop bar, but everyone I was with slept well and barely had any noise! The room was clean and had the tiniest balcony that when we went out, we could view the ocean! That was a nice surprise. The hotel was close to everything- restaurants, shops, and parking lots. We walked/biked along the beach and there were plenty of bars (besides the one on the roof) to go to. Also plenty of restaurants. The only thing that wasn't my favorite was the bathroom "barn" sliding door. If you are sharing the room with friends, the door doesn't seal completely. Then the person at the sink outside can see in. Obviously if you're sharing the room, you trust the other people so its not a big deal but we joked about turning the TV up so the person in the bathroom could have "privacy" peeing LOL. Staff in the hotel were friendly and nice so there are no complaints. The rooftop bar was nice, but some of the other "guests" at the bar, which is open to non-hotel guests were a little snobby. When we got off our floor after visiting the roof deck, one of the other people on the elevator said out loud: "I can't believe people actually stay here!" Oh well, glad she wasn't staying there either

Yelp
Made a reservation and was seated in one of the tables during peak sunset time. Definitely worth the reservation and going during sunset, it was beautiful and the views were great. The drinks were really good, and food was solid as well. The service was good and attentive.

Yelp
My stay here at this hotel was 5-star experience. Everyone working here is so nice and accommodating, even showing up at 2AM in the morning to check-in. I got upgraded to the ocean-view suite and wow, the room is huge just for one person and the view in the morning of the beach is great, exactly what I was looking for. Its right next to Venice Beach so if you want that ocean-front feeling, this hotel has it. They have bikes you can rent and I took one down to Santa Monica Pier which was a nice ride, not too far. Would come back if I'm in the area.

Yelp
What a cute boutique hotel right in the heart of Venice Beach. The rooms are reasonably sized. I stayed in a double queen bed room and thought that it was spacious enough. The beds were really comfy and I was able to knock out right away. I also liked how they had a mini balcony. My friend's room was a nice king size bed with a little dining/kitchen area. I had lunch on their rooftop and wow. The views are amazing from here. They have heat lamps to keep guests warm and even provide blankets for that extra comfort. They also have a meeting room in case you are here for business. Such a cute hotel and pretty reasonably priced if you're looking for a stay in Venice close to the boardwalk.

Yelp
Last Sunday, Early Evening: My friend had invited me days in advance to join him & friends for a Rooftop get together at Hotel Erwin. He parked in the driveway at my place, we walked up the busy & lively boardwalk, which was a short walk (about 10 min.) from my place & took the elevator upon arrival at Hotel Erwin. View, Snacks & Drinks: Absolutely stunning from way up high! Incredible 360° scenery all around. I had been once before & was amazed by the jaw dropping colorful sunset at night. Everyone was quite welcoming from the moment we arrived & seated at our table. Drinks were served & I actually enjoyed taking more sips of my friend's refreshing tropical tasting drink, Mango Cart beer, which I preferred to my cocktail!(Shocker! Haha!) Nachos w/guacamole & the most delicious fries were also ordered! Yum! Atmosphere/Vibe: We arrived late afternoon around 4 PM-ish. Beautiful place, loved the bright umbrellas & all the beautiful plants! Eventually, we were a party of eight; everyone had arrived. The place got gradually busy, which was exciting! Super nice people, including our friendly waiter. He was awesome and checked on us frequently! Plenty of Laughs: During a hilarious conversation we were having, an incredibly stylish guy, along w/his friend sitting at the table to the left us joined in on the topic, as a group of mainly fashionable girls to the right of us interacted with us as well, when a certain party starter's vibrant energy & laughter attracted their attention! Good vibes all all around! Cheers! Freshen Up: Cheers to even the friendly girls in the ladies room who complimented me & my dress. I complimented her flawless lashes & makeup & suddenly it became a chain reaction of girls complementing each other! Haha! Loved the quote on back of the door as I was heading out. Overall: Hotel Erwin is a 10 out of 10; incredibly cool, relaxing beach-y vibes, friendly service & crowd, the stylish DJ w/the cool hat was amazing & really set the vibe w/chill music & the views take center stage, definitely a must-see experience!

Yelp
This is one of the coolest rooftop spots I've been to! I've actually been here twice - the first time was 3 years ago when I was visiting LA and the views and vibes were that memorable! Must go at sunset, it's absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful views in every direction!! Drinks are averagely priced and what you'd expect for LA.
google avatar

Samantha M.

Yelp
We just had a company party on the rooftop and it was perfect! Great food, atmosphere, and the staff were amazing! Would highly recommend for any even!

Flannery D.

Yelp
Definitely recommend getting a reservation. If you have people visiting from out of town, or are going on a nice date.. the sunset views are unparalleled. The drinks are also great; though they are quite expensive. The food is decent, it's good but nothing to write home about. Overall I definitely recommend this place for the right occasion
google avatar

Yelp
The Hotel Erwin is a small, boutique hotel who's best feature is absolutely it's ocean front location. Tip...be sure to request a room with a balcony and view of Venice Beach. The hotel staff are super Cali-friendly and happy to accommodate your wishes. Parking is expensive, $30-$50, but that is standard for the Venice Beach. High, the hotel's rooftop bar, overlooks the ocean, offering drinks and slices of artisan pizza! THE DEAL: If you room is not ready, ask for a comp card for a couple of free drinks at their rooftop bar!
google avatar

Magdalene R.

Yelp
Lauren who was working on the rooftop bar from Hotel Erwin was so helpful and really made sure we were well taken care of. We were missed by the waiting staff for final call and hadn't received any food. Lauren immediately offered us complimentary chips and guacamole for us being unseen with a smile and a huge heart. Great customer service. Definitely need to give this girl a raise!! Beautiful location, amazing interior design. All around amazing hotel and rooftop bar! Spotlight on Lauren!!

Yelp
Great location, cute room. Loved having a balcony. The lobby was super tiny and a little chaotic. No parking on premise, you have to valet or street park.

Yelp
If I could give this hotel 0 stars, I would love to. Check in time is 4pm and I arrived at 4:45pm. I was told the carpet in my room had been ruined and they had to deep clean it. I was given a $25 credit to the rooftop bar and told to go drink and wait. When I went to the rooftop bar for my free drink, they handed me a canned vodka soda & a tequila and rudely said that's all my coupon is good for. I didn't even want the vodka soda. When I returned to the reception at 5:35pm, the receptionist squinted at the computer screen. Then he said he was personally going to check my room visually. He left me standing at the desk and never returned. It's now 5:50pm and I was told by another receptionist to continue to wait. Finally, I got into my room past 6pm & the carpet was wet & humid. I was comped with valet parking by a different nicer receptionist but the entire experience of having a room with a wet carpet put a damper on my hotel experience literally and figuratively. The location of this hotel is very convenient and most of the staff is nice. They do have free bikes which was great. However, I am unsure if I would return due to the disastrous check in experience which left me wondering if my room had been a crime seen or something as I've never had a room with the entire carpet ruined.

Yelp
This is a beautiful hotel, with amazing ocean views and a great walkable location. What's even more important: the staff. They are so aware, communicative, and safety-oriented. I've been to Hotel Erwin and the rooftop bar a few times before, but last weekend I was the target of a local scammer named Gray Ross who has repeatedly tried to establish connections at local hotels, businesses, and bars to build up high tabs and force a stranger to foot the bill. In my brief time at Hotel Erwin, I was able to connect with the manager of the rooftop bar, hotel security, and the lobby manager to prevent any further scam or endangering myself or others. Particular shoutout to Shane for making sure guests and customers were safe!
google avatar

Carrie M.

Yelp
Came to the hotel's rooftop bar for a company happy hour and it was great. The drinks are excellent and the rooftop had spanning views of Venice beach and the surrounding cities. It's peak LA vibes here, that's for sure. Fries are great to munch on and the chili wings have a delicious sauce with a slight kick. The pizza is ok, more like a focaccia bread with pizza toppings over the top.

Kendrick H.

Yelp
One Star for the nice server But...my daughter and I spent $350 on the rooftop only to be told by our server that we had ten more minutes because of an event. With that we ordered two more drinks and assured our server we would be gone in ten minutes before the event was to start and she said "thanks" . Within two minutes Your Events director told us she was moving us - I said we have not finished our drinks and I told our server we would be gone in ten. The Events director told me that she "heard what we had agreed " but that we would have to move now. With no time line and that the event was not to start until after we were ready to leave - she then instructed me to back up and lower my finger in an accusatory tone as if I had started the causing of me to use inappropriate behavior in front of my daughter . Even though she approached me stepping closer to me ! I was a manager at Gladstones on the PHC and I've seen attitude like this in burnt out and tired people skills - further were she in my charge she would have been fired on the spot for not negotiating a compromise. So unnerving that this was for my daughter and I , that I'm taking the time to right for compensation and apology. So please tell me you will look into this. Cody was good enough to give me your email. Kelly was kind enough to bring this to Brad. AJ will be calling me or getting in touch. Plus I spoke to a gentleman on the roof as I was leaving who told me he was a director who said to be in touch with him personally, when making a new reservation for next week ! Witch by the way I really wanted to do for table 15 at 2:00pm Saturday!! Having had this kind of experience......would you??? If I don't hear from you, so you know... it's the beginning...please conclude. Thanks in advance

Yelp
This is my second time coming here. First time I had poor service but the food was good. This time I am writing as I am here right now . I waited 46 minutes for a salad I paid 21 dollars for that is piss poor. Also no dressing on the few flakes of leaves I got. && I ordered water and still haven't gotten it. My time before I left my card here accidentally on the clip board and called for 4 days to get it back and the response was "we will call you back if we find it " i called everyday and got that response. Luckily I in LA.... I had to go in person talk to the front desk for them to give me my id back . If I was fell out of town I would have never gotten it . The hotel is responsive (in person) but the roof top in person or on the phone have just been the worst time. It's a shame with such a great view. Now after writing this I still haven't gotten water. The bus boy has been the most help but no one is helping him. Just all around poor service and energy. I was going to make this my go to spot but not anymore. A shame

Yelp
ROACHES IN HOTEL ROOMS!!!!!! could not recommend this place less, unless you're comfortable with roaches in your room! my coworker and i booked rooms at this hotel for a business trip and woke up in the morning with roaches in both of our rooms. it is absolutely despicable that this establishment lets anyone stay or dine due to their massive roach problem, it's FILTHY!!!! as soon as we saw the roaches we checked out of the hotel and went to a clean, bug free, establishment nowhere near roach hotel erwin. if you are not concerned with the roaches, you might enjoy the loud atmosphere, terrible water pressure in the shower, uncomfortable bed, and thin towels.

Yelp
You should only stay here if you want to party. There's loud club music going past midnight. Walls are paper thin. Drunk people yelling in the hallways all night. No amenities other than the rooftop club. Nice location on the beach. There are tons of good restaurants within walking distance. Rooms are clean and well decorated. Probably a great place if you're traveling to go clubbing. If you're planing on a relaxing stay by the ocean, this is the last place you should pick.

Yelp
Update 8/27/21: Hotel Management did end up refunding $53.90 (for parking) as a small remediation for their bad parking attendant. That was appreciated.

Dawn L.

Yelp
We read some reviews before staying here and what everyone said about how amazing the staff was, certainly was true! Thanks to Natasha at the front desk, we got hooked up with vouchers and an upgraded room. Our room was clean, minimal and super comfy!! It was absolutely quiet despite being right on Venice boardwalk! The rooftop restaurant/bar is NOT to be missed. A great place for out-of-towners! Prices were so reasonable too!

Yelp
Venice Beach is the weirdest place and I love it. Usually I stay in Marina Del Rey, as it is close to LAX or Santa Monica. Whenever I have time I like to rent a beach cruiser and take a spin on the VB boardwalk to people watch. Is there any better place to do that than VB? First time staying in VB proper. I stumbled across this on hotel tonight.... Thursday night in January for $200, tax and $20 "resort fee". This ain't no resort but it is a pretty cool hotel right on the boardwalk with a no joke massive rooftop bar with great views of Venice to Santa Monica. I think the Yelpers got it about right at 3.5 stars. The room is nice enough, nothing fancy. Most have beach views. Mine had a great little porch and really nice views. Staff was pleasant and efficient on checkin. For the "resort fee" you get beach cruisers, water in the room, WiFi, Kerig coffee maker and free cocktail at checkin. Not bad... I just don't like that add on charge but most places from Priceline or Hotels Tonight do that to make up for what they scrape. No use complaining. Update: Friday sunset at rooftop bar. Great 360 views from Malibu to Palos Verdes to Hollywood (you can see the sign) and even snow covered peaks in the far distance. Really great views and comfortable furniture that can accommodate a lot of peeps. Most of the staff at the hotel and rooftop were nice and accommodating. The rooftop bar tender staff isn't very friendly. They were talking really negatively about other customers in front of me while I was waiting for my drink. That is unprofessional and amateurish. Come on, y'all can be better than that.

I like their rooftop, very good location for a hotel right in the middle of the venice beach. Nice views but never stayed there

Yelp
My wife and I recently stayed at this hotel. The hotel rooms are great, very modern look with nice subtle touches throughout the room. You can't really ask for anything more from the rooms, we really enjoyed our stay in the hotel. Venice beach is walking distance from the hotel, very convenient. The hotel staff is very accommodating, they offered us towels and bikes for the beach. I'm thinking this is probably the best hotel on or around Venice. The only draw back with our stay has nothing to do with the hotel. It was our experience on the beach, the homeless situation is out of control. But as I'm writing this it sounds like a clean up is going to take place. Anyways, the hotel has a Pizza place on-site that you must try. You can grab a slice or get a whole pie. Again this review is only for the hotel not the beach.

Yelp
How this is rated a 4 star hotel is absolutely beyond me. Maybe it's the Venice curve. Anyways, if you book here enjoy your terrible water pressure and hearing every word the rooms next to you say. The location is nice and walkable, but if you get a room on the 6th floor be prepared to listen to the thumping of the rooftop music until 2am. Everyone that works here is kind and the room was tidy but I'd give this place 2.5 stars if I could. I wouldn't stay here again.

Yelp
Just did a little staycation at Hotel Erwin and wow, this team is seriously doing EVERYTHING possible to protect and maximize the safety of their guests during Covid. Not to mention, the hotel is so tastefully designed - with aesthetics that fall somewhere between minimalist chic + retro nostalgia (so many photo opps throughout our room alone!). The check-in process was easy & completely contact-free. Brooke was so accommodating during the booking arrangement and Jilian quickly checked me in within 5 minutes at the front desk. The suite was immaculate and absolutely spotless. We booked a standard room but they so sweetly upgraded us to the beautiful suite since we had stayed here a few times before (perks of supporting a local biz instead of the sterile corporate chains). Everything down to the TV remote was thought through for our safety. They sterilized the remote & had it in a protective covering as a precaution. The living room area is much larger than most other hotel suites in LA & there was even a little dining space near the coffee counter (decked out with a Keurig, of course). We were also really impressed with the fluffy, extra white, extra soft bed and pillows. We also had lots of fun waking up beachfront (literally), and walking right out to the beautiful view. This was the perfect place to get some extra shut-eye with maximum comfort, aesthetic decor, and a staff that works around the clock to keep their guests safe. Thanks so much, Hotel Erwin team! PS. Support local businesses like Hotel Erwin over big corps. These local gems keep our communities colorful.

Yelp
I'll start by saying that the staff members were outstanding! They were professional, kind and friendly. I got the sense that they truly wanted to make my stay as pleasant as possible. Unfortunately, I did not have the best stay. I had a room on the 3rd floor, which was more expensive than the higher floors. The surrounding area outside the room had a faint smell of sewage, and there were little bugs flying around that area. My room was just OK. The carpet was old and dirty. The decor was decent - kind of trendy, which I appreciated. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was small but clean and efficient. My biggest complaint is the view and the balcony. I paid for an ocean view, which technically, I got. However, the space between the hotel and the ocean was a crowded parking lot, which I consider an eyesore. I was unable to enjoy sitting on the balcony because the chairs were hard and uncomfortable and the little plastic table was dirty, with burn marks all over it. I called the front desk to ask for a higher floor, but there was no availability. The hotel manager was very apologetic and came to my room to offer coupons to use at their rooftop restaurant. I ended up dining at their rooftop restaurant later that evening, with four other guests. The restaurant was very nice, and I would dine there again. The space had beautiful views of the city, great food and pleasant staff. The only complaint I have with the rooftop dining experience is that the coupons were not applied to our bill. We gave our server the coupons, but we later realized that nothing was deducted. She seemed to understand how to apply them, so maybe she forgot or there was some confusion. Overall, this stay was not worth $325 for one night.

Yelp
I love the location of this place we got the ocean view room and the view is perfect. The only problem we had is that it seems like everyone wants to go to the rooftop and they only have one elevator. The nice part is that they have multiple staircases if you don't mind some exercise. The other problem is valet parking. If you're planning to stay here they might run out of room in the garage because of the number of people that come for the rooftop bar. I had to park across the street

Yelp
Pros: -RIGHT near the beach. Probably half a block away -staff friendly, especially bartender Deon was great and the front desk seem to remember guests and greet you as you walk in -large closet in the rooms Cons: -ridiculously small bathroom. The toilet and shower are in the same area, and it literally felt like a closet. I'm not sure I've ever been in a hotel with a bathroom that small. For example, the towel/mat that you place on the floor right outside the shower took up the entire "bathroom" floor. I'm not kidding, it's SMALL. -there was a bug in our closet on our last night -seems like a college spring break type hotel -rooms seem outdated, with the decal letters peeling off the walls -they didn't have the typical travel toiletries available -only 1 elevator for the entire hotel

Yelp
Absolute nightmare. The sole function of a hotel is to provide a quiet place to sleep. This is not the place for you if that is your plan. Do not stay on the sixth floor if you value sleep or peace. You will hear the thump thump of the bar until 2am. They said the music stops at 9:30 when we checked in- that was a lie. Why would you even check people into these rooms unless they planned on being up until 2? This is absolute torture. We called at 1am last night and they said they would ask the bar to turn down the music-didn't happen. Then the leaf blower at 6am happened and I almost lost my mind. We moved rooms to a "quieter room" on the same floor- same bs thump thump thump going on literally from 11AM to 2 AM. I would avoid this hotel if you are over the age of 25. I am absolutely miserable. #regrets The bed is super comfy and once the bar closes you'll sleep well. Location to beach and restaurants is good. I will ask for a refund for at least the first night.

Yelp
Hotel Erwin was by far the best hotel experience i've had in a long time. Everything is so clean the sheets and the towels smell fresh and in excellent condition (no off white colors) just efficient! The hotel employees are so nice and welcoming even if you are not in the best of all moods rolling in late at night the hospitality was a mood changer! The rooms are very lovely and have their own character it's warm and welcoming it's not like any other hotel stay definitely has its own personality which makes it unique. Loved their little message about the mask was fun and a good way to get everyone cooperating during this awkward time. Haha!!!

Yelp
A really unpleasant experience overall. We were moving and needed to kill a few nights in a hotel. I'd been to their rooftop bar, which was a scene (though not my scene). Front desk was so-so. Top floor room you could hear the rooftop bar bumping into the night. Valet crashed my car (minor damage), argued with me, and then didn't take responsibility. No reimbursement. Don't go here.

Yelp
We returned here recently after a long hiatus. This was a frequent spot for us in our dating days. I can't get enough of those beautiful Venice views of the boardwalk and beach. It's a very cool set up, way up high on the roof top of the hotel. Our service was less than on this particular visit but their beverages are wet and cold, the food is tasty and the place has the best views in Venice. I've brought many out of town guests to this location because it's so unique and it's always been met with resounding thanks. Their new addition of sunscreen to the menu is not only a hoot but completely practical. Plan to bring a hat or come pre-slathered in SPF. Their views are second to none.

Yelp
Awesome hotel made my wife's birthday very special. Reason for the four stars was because of the roof top bar. We made reservation for dinner when we got seated we were ignored for about 30mins until I got up and said something. Other than that had a great time!!

Yelp
I stayed at Hotel Erwin in early December for a work trip in Santa Monica and I enjoyed my time there. It's definitely a hip hotel and the rooms were cozy and comfortable. I had a full balcony that had a partial view of Venice beach but I didn't get to use it much. I would say that this is a great place for those who enjoy going out to local bars and restaurants because it was hopping in the evenings. My two qualms about Hotel Erwin is that parking is $50 a night and there was some damaged furniture combined with some missed cleaning areas (I.e. the ceiling). Other than that, I'd be happy to stay here again!

Yelp
Back again after 2 years they greet us with a smile and complimentary champagne! With an epic view as always and great food for us to eat! Been nothing again but 5/5!

Yelp
It was okay. Had reservations. The margaritas sucked. Kind of watered down. The passion drink was good! Nice place to view the sunset

Yelp
Use caution when trying to adjust reservations directly with the hotel. They use a call center for reservations (I was unable to reach the front desk after multiple tries during business hours) and received incorrect information from them resulting in being doubled charged (two rooms for one person). I have tried several times to speak with someone that could help but I have been turned away saying that they won't refund my over $1000 reservation. How a business could operate like this and to be so hostile to patrons is not something I've ever experienced. Stay elsewhere if possible and if you do choose to stay here, book through a third party as this hotel is impossible to work with. UPDATE: They finally agreed to refund me for the unused room (after 2 days and numerous calls and emails); however, the experience I had both with the front desk and billing are still the worst I have ever experienced. Having to worry and manage this during my trip, completely ruined my experience.
