Hotel Fort Canning

"How did it strike you on arrival? You have to pass through the lush Fort Canning Park to get to the hotel - quite an impressive journey. The hotel is in a black-and-white colonial building, a heritage setting updated with mid-century modern furnishings from the likes of Poltrona Frau. It's luxe but feels intimate and homey at the same time. What’s the crowd like?Couples, couples and more couples. This is probably where a lot of babies get made. Oh, and the occasional family. The good stuff: Tell us about your room.I booked a Studio Suite, which came with a big balcony and an even bigger open bathtub right next to the bed. Talk about suggestive! The tub is set into the floor in a rather crypt-like way, but that certainly adds to the standout factor of the room. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?The mattress was firm, the cotton sheets not as smooth as I would've liked. There's a pillow menu thought for those picky with their pillows. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase? The mini-bar selection was free but not memorable. I stuck to the Nespresso and TWG teas provided. Maybe I'd steal that awkwardly positioned bathtub - if only to put it somewhere else! Outside of the room, the Aperitif Hour is a nice touch — free wine and canapes with the hotel staff circulating to drum up camaderie amongst the guests. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down. The bathtub was massive and the centrepiece of the room. Rain shower was good, Ecogenesis brand toiletries were eco-friendly and biodegrable but didn't offer a luxurious experience. We all need some good Wi-Fi. What’s the word on that?Decent speed, and free. Anything stand out about other services and features?Three swimming pools, including one for kids. All are chlorine- and chemical-free, and treated for sanitation with an eco-friendly process using NASA technology. The Salon restaurant features dishes made with herbs and spices from the Spice Garden atop Fort Canning Park. What was most memorable about your stay? The location - in the middle of 18 acres of greenery yet just minutes from busy Orchard Road. Bottom line: worth it?You don't just get a comfortable stay for your money here - you're also supporting a hotel that's big on sustainability and eco practices." - Audrey Phoon

6 Unusual Turkeys For Christmas

"The popular char-grilled skewered meat dish of satay is re-imagined in turkey form at Hotel Fort Canning’s new Christmas offerings this year. The Satay Turkey ($138) is marinated overnight with an aromatic blend of spices that are also used in the seasoning of satay. They include lemongrass, turmeric, galangal, cumin and coriander powder. The marinade is beautifully infused into the turkey, which perks the meat up with just the right amount of heat and spices. Satay’s trusty companions — ketupat (rice cakes) and a house-made ground peanut dip — are served with the Satay Turkey." - Michelin Guide Digital-Singapore

Held my wedding here with one night stay. One waitress at the banquet really impressed us by helping with my wife's very long dress during the march in and champagne pouring. I understand the hotel will be rejuvenated soon.

We held a wedding dinner banquet here at the Glass House and it went splendidly. Our banquet managers, Amanda were all so professional, kind and patient with all our requests. Amanda guided us through the whole wedding preparations. So, really kudos to the team. Not to mention the food is amazing!

Hotel has aged overtime. You can tell from the facade, the carpark and the ballrooms. It was once a really sought after place for staycation due to its prime location. Worth to consider revamping the space :)

The bathroom is not in a separate room. The sink is across from the bed. The toilet and shower are next to the bed with a sliding door where you can have privacy in either one or the other, but not both at once. Very strange lay out. The location was excellent.

I stayed at this hotel for two nights with my girlfriend, and unfortunately, the service did not meet the expectations of a five-star establishment. Our stay included a complimentary high tea, but the experience was far from seamless. When we arrived for high tea, no menu was provided, and a waiter simply asked what we wanted to drink—without offering any options. No one explained what would be served, so we were left guessing as a box of assorted pastries and snacks arrived. When we asked about the items, even the waiter wasn’t sure what they were. Beyond this, several other issues stood out: 1. Room Condition: Upon checking in, the air conditioning was weak, and the floor was noticeably dusty in the corners. 2. Bathroom Maintenance: The rain shower knob was already loose and ended up breaking when I tried to turn it (likely due to previous damage). To their credit, a staff member came and fixed it quickly. 3. Slow Service: I requested cutlery to be sent to the room, and after 30 minutes of waiting, I had to call again. It finally arrived 15 minutes later—meaning I waited 45 minutes for basic utensils. 4. Unreliable Service Requests: I requested ice around 3:30 PM and was assured it would be delivered. After waiting 45 minutes, nothing arrived. I called again around 6–7 PM, and still, no one showed up. Eventually, I had to go downstairs myself, only to find no staff anywhere. The only way I could get ice was by walking to the restaurant. To be fair, the overall experience was still okay—just definitely not up to five-star standards. Room: 3.5/5, Service: 2/5. * service being 2/5 bc although help wasn’t always available, when it was, the staff were rather friendly. For a luxury hotel, the lack of communication, service delays, and basic maintenance issues were disappointing. While there were some helpful staff members, the overall experience fell short of expectations. Honestly this place has so much potential, with proper managment of amenities and staff, really think this place could be a big hit.

Don't missed out staying at this fantastic property. Stayed over for New Year's Eve.able to see the fireworks from here. Room was spacious, Bath Tub was spacious and my kids had a lot of fun! The service, food from this hotel was priceless, everything was amazing and I had a memorable spent new year with my family while avoiding and squeezing with the crowds in the esplanade or Marina Area.! Thank you Sunset Hospitality, for this amazing experience!

We stayed for 1 night and had a comfortable experience overall. The room was spacious with a king-size bed, and being on the 3rd level meant it wasn’t too noisy despite an event taking place during our stay. The hotel’s tranquil setting amidst lush greenery makes it feel like a peaceful retreat, yet it’s conveniently located just a comfortable 10-min walk from Dhoby Ghaut MRT station. However, there were a couple of drawbacks. I was looking forward to a relaxing soak in the bathtub, but despite reporting that it was faulty and having it “repaired,” it still didn’t work — left feeling disappointing. Additionally, the walls were rather thin, as we could hear conversations and children crying from the neighbouring room. Overall, it’s a lovely place for a short getaway, offering a resort-like escape in the heart of the city. The experience would be even better if certain areas can be improved. Tasteful decor and architect!

Yelp
The location is fantastic because it's central to many tourist attractions. We used the MRT to get around, and it was a bit of a walk to get to and from. The uphills back weren't the most fun after walking over 16km a day, but definitely manageable. On the bright side, it looked like they were installing some escalators, which should make it a breeze. Our room was spacious and cozy. We received new bottles of water when the room was made, which was nice since we were walking so much. The customer service by the lobby and check-in staff was mediocre, especially for a 5-star hotel. Instead of pleasant "how may I help you" vibes, it was more like "what do you want."

Yelp
Absolutely great hotel to stay at if you are in Singapore for a vacation. It is right in the middle of the city with MRT station within walking distance. It is about equal distance to almost anywhere that you would want to go such as marina bay or to orchard area. The hotel itself is beautiful and historic appearing. They grounds are well maintained with the greenery which gotta say is present all around Singapore. The staff was exceptionally nice and very attentive to ensure that whatever we needed was available for us. All the amenities are included and are what you would expect from a 4/5 star hotel. During our stay, we used the gym a couple of times. It was huge, very clean, and had almost every equipment you might need. We also made it a point to check out the pool and that was also very nice and clean. It does not appear to be well known amongst visitors I believe because there were not too many tourists we saw there which I think helps in keeping the calm and peaceful environment that I think is compromised in a hotel like Marina Bay Sands or such. Definitely recommend staying here!

Yelp
Easy to reach even I was pushing a baby pram from the mrt station. Just take the lift to level 4 at Park Mall and exit from the car park. The hotel is just across the street. Lots of staffs around to provide assistance. Used cutlery is cleared regularly. The Makan In The Park Event is not crowded and collection of food is fast and smooth. Food is delicious and yummy. Fun games for children.

Yelp
Beautiful! Beautiful! Beautiful! This hotel is historic, and full of fantastic architectural detail. Our bathroom, for example, was built onto a glassed-in marble balcony with a beautiful view of trees and foliage (but still private enough I didn't feel exposed). The lobby itself was so comfortable and beautiful that I hardly wanted to leave it, but then grounds beckoned. My family (me, my husband and two daughters) had fun just jumping around the stones in their fish ponds and playing with the fish. No one bothered us about it either (we didn't harm anything or tease the fish). What's better, the hotel is located in Fort Canning park, which quickly became my favorite spot in all of Singapore. Fort Canning park is unique in Singapore for being not only beautiful, but also tranquil AND full of surprises, from a resident artist carving wood sculptures in the park to a field lined with historic gravestones built into a brick wall. There is just too much of the odd, surprising, historic and interesting in that park to do more than scratch the surface here. Stay at the hotel, order some of their (very good) hotel food take-away, and pic nic in Fort Canning Park. Really makes for an enjoyable day. The hotel is pretty close to some of the biggest museums, too, so it is actually well situated for a tourist trip. If I ever get back to Singapore, I'm staying here. It's worth the money.
