10 days in the Grande Penthouse suite.||We loved the style, as if we were living in a loft in San Francisco. Beautiful materials and a successful contemporary layout.||The terrace with its view over the city and its firetip delighted us as much as the staff who were always really friendly and very helpful.||Everything was perfect. Many thanks to Hotel G for our first experience in the City by the Bay.

If you are visiting San Francisco - just book Hotel G and start planning your adventures. Seriously! Central Location: 1 block from Union Square and shopping; across the street from Curran and ACT theatres (very close to others); easy walk to Chinatown, Transamerica Pyramid and park, Market Street/Ferry Building; BART and MUNI. Hotel Cleanliness: rooms were spotless, crisp linens and comfortable beds, loved the historic elements mixed with modern. Friendly Staff: everyone I encountered had genuine hospitality and was so helpful. Amenities: I loved the in-room Nespresso and mini fridge. My friends and I enjoyed a great dinner at Corzetti, the hotel's Italian restaurant. We enjoyed a variety of flavorful and unique pasta dishes - the Olive Leaf Martini brightened our evening! Cute gym, peeked my head in but feet didn't seem to follow! lol For reference, friends and I had 3 rooms, we stayed 4 nights. Already thinking about our next trip back!!

Great location at Union Square, large room and reasonably priced. Not fancy but comfortable and surprisingly quiet. Slippers, bathrobe available on request. Very friendly and helpful staff, and Irene at the front desk was friendly and fast to assist.

Great location! We felt we were in the middle of San Fran’s livelihood. Great service, easy check-in and check-out. I’d say the rooms were a tad smaller than expected and whilst they had a great ambience it felt they were very old rooms which were painted over. The bathroom was great and overall it was worth the value for money.

The service & the staff there alone are great! Hotel G has around since 1906. They partnered with an Italian restaurant & bar called Corzetti, and offer two free drink voucher coupons per hotel patron (those of whom are 21+, of course).

Wonderful location in the middle of downtown and less than .1 kilometer away from Union Square. Was able to go to Chinatown every day to get amazing dim sum. Irene was an experienced host who shared a lot of local insight and how to get the most out of the city.

Shockingly disappointing. My husband and I were staying here and they didn’t allow him in after 7 pm because his name wasn’t on the room. They lectured us and told us we should have added his name even though there were no prompts to do so. On top of that they charged us an extra 20 dollars a night for the same room with a queen bed. Never heard of anything like this. Would recommend avoiding at all costs as this room is uncomfortable, loud, poorly designed, and a rip off. Also there is no mini bar as advertised.

Overall this hotel was great! The rooms were very clean and the staff were very friendly. I would absolutely stay here again when visiting San Francisco. The only downside which is out of the hotels control is the location, there is some homeless population not too far from the hotel, but the hotel staff manage it well by locking the doors at night and requiring room keys to use the elevator. Over our stay was great!!

Great hotel in a great area. Staff was great and friendly. I dont not hear any noise outside like others reported. Wish the bathroom area was little bigger, but its SF...To be expected. Wifi was around 20 Mbps for those interested

1. The front desk manager is fantastic! 5 stars for Claudia the front desk manager! She did all she could to help offset the pain of the drum banging that starts at 7am and goes all day thanks to the hotel workers strike. And every major hotel in Union Square is suffering so hard to escape it. 2. The hotel and room Really cute restaurant bar that's open during the day and connected to the lobby. Lobby is cute as well with a small area to sit, but with those drums banging I could find no peace anywhere. The hotel pics make it seem far more modern than it is. So imagine good filtering ;) eg They took the original flooring tile, and the original cement and tried to make it trendy cute, but it's obvious. The carpet in the hallway floors is old and dingy. The suite corner room is large and looks nice but the shower is tiny. The corner suites are best imho. The suites not on a corner have bigger showers with bathtubs but they're refurbished not remodeled and the rooms are smaller. They did just enough cosmetic work to make it look nice. As compared to hotels in other countries, it is very nice. As compared to a true boutique hotel, they are trying and it's not bad if you can catch a deal for $200 or less a night for a suite. 3. Parking Parking is $45 overnight with in and out privileges at the Westin right next door which is very convenient and especially given safety issues in SF nowadays. 4. Location location location Close to bart, the trolley, bus public transportation and union square, Starbucks, restaurants, high end and Macy's type shopping, food etc. 5. Safety Not bad, I expected far worse as it's Nov 2024 and the times are a little tricky given extensive homelessness here. But it's not too bad. Just don't walk late night and obey standard safety rules. For what you get and if at an affordable price as mentioned above then I'd for sure come back. Probably an easy place to stay for a short or long amount of time.

Hotel G is nice enough, they have a very old-timey feel to it and you can definitely feel that on some of the floors. We picked Hotel G being walking distance to Union Square and all the plentiful cafes and restaurants and amazing shopping just around the block. Although the wooden planks creaked, w/ the wooden baseboards, heat and air controlled by window unit, we wouldn't mind staying at this likable hotel. The rooms were very clean and maintained and staff were very friendly and helpful. Thanks Hotel G for taking care of us!

Some of the highlights of our stay were the 12 noon checkout time, TV casting where we were able to watch our favorite shows on hulu, free half bottle of wine, and a $30 credit for the attached restaurant (Corzetti's) which we took advantage of the next morning for some yummy breakfast. The room was great, modern, lots of space, hardwood floors, clean and comfy bed, strong water pressure in the shower, temperature control, and a mini-fridge that looked like a safe (as well as an actual safe in the room). Parking was expectedly pricey based on the area, but they had valet after check-in which was quick and easy with the professional service they provided.

At first I was skeptical, I hadn't heard of this hotel before... but was going to be in town for a conference (RSA). But wow, did my mind change once I stepped inside... it's a remodeled older hotel, keeping much of the look and feel of a 1920's era hotel but with modern amenities. The elevators look original but slightly updated. The rooms are large and tastefully decorated to leave much of the vintage feel. The vibe was totally cool, next time in SF .. I'll stay here again!

Was a little nervous upon arrival just because the hotel does look a bit dated and I've never stayed in a non-bigchain hotel before. With that said, I was pleasantly surprised! Extremely friendly and helpful check-in hosts. Received a boxed water as well which was nice. They also offered ear plugs and a noise machine to help with the sound of the protestors (they are very loud and the noise is 24/7). My room was on the other side of the hotel so it was bearable. My room was very chilly upon arrival but warmed up quickly once I adjusted the temp. They also offered complimentary tea kettles and a nice bathrobe/slippers. Overall, very nice stay!

Hotel G is my go-to hotel when I visit SF for three reasons: convenience, cleanliness, and service. I've had my fair share of disappointing hotel stays in the US, but Hotel G is not one of them. The rooms are always super clean, and the hotel is conveniently located in the city center. The staff here is incredibly friendly and attentive. Kosal, who works at the front desk, was kind enough to give us a free bottle of wine. They also have a charming restaurant next door with really good happy hour deals. Despite being in downtown SF, safety and security have never been issues at Hotel G. The front door to the lobby is locked after 7 pm and guests can only be let in after staff approval which adds an extra layer of security.

Hotel G has such a vintage and funky vibe. Staff were very friendly and helpful the whole duration of our stay. The valet parking garage is also very convenient and nice to keep your car safe. The view from our window was very beautiful as well. I will definitely come back.

Clean, aged but well kept. Parking is in the Westin garage next door, you have to check in first and then go to the garage with your car check. The luggage trolly is in the hotel lobby and you need to take it down the street and then back up. You need your key to operate the elevator, don't forget it because you don't need it to go down but you will need it to go back up! Ask me how I know.. Down the street from the Curran Theater where we were seeing a show, bed was comfortable and plenty of eating spots within a few minutes walk. (Honey Honey Cafe was good!) We may stay again if we need to be in Union Square again.

Good size room. Comfy bed. A little noisy. I was in the city for a business meeting and needed a place to stay. They gave me a corner room, which I appreciated. I was very happy with the stay, slept very well, which I often do not do in hotels, and would be happy to return.

I leave allot of five star reviews, but this place really hit it out of the park! First the location was amazing, right off Union Square behind the Westin, right past the garage entrance (which was incredibly convenient and through the hotel cheaper and MUCH more secure than any other close by garages. The best part about being right there was the older hotel was built like an old hotel, we couldn't hear anything including the jackhammering across the street (unless they only jackhammered when we were on the sidewalk outside). The public area showed some age, THICK paint, narrow hallways, tiny elevator, you get the idea. BUT then you get in the room and dang if they weren't super awesome. Okay, I said they but really we were only in our room, the corner terrace suite, and it was amazing. The room itself was reasonably sized, most of the 700ish sqft was outside, and it was rainy and cold while we were there so we didn't really get to use the space so we likely could have been just as happy in the large or extra large king which by hotel standards were HUGE. The room had a huge comfy bed, nice plush leatherish headboard and an array of nice pillows. Over the bed was a gas fireplace that set the right mood on a chilly rainy evening. There was alarge enough TV that we never touched and a nespresso machine with some tea options as well. The fridge in the closet was reasonably sized and the sitting area was nice. Then there was the batroom and the gloriousness that it held. A huge waterfall showerhead in a very curvy ellipse and a lip that barely contained the water. A series of shapes and angles that made you fell welcome and comfortable while being just a little exposed. The room was filled with mirrors that were not square or round, shaped and positioned in ways that made the room seem both larger and more intimate at the same time. The floors were paved with wood appearing tile that was VERY nice, hotel carpets just gross me out and this place never felt dirty at all. The room was better than I had hoped and as a suite less than a basic room at "high end" hotels in the area I couldn't believe it, but I had to, I was there. Okay the make or break, the staff. I have had the chance to work and stay at some of the nicest (and worst) properties all over and the front desk and housekeeping staff can make all the difference. Charles checked us in rather late as our travel plans coming in from the south bay were terribly planned, but he was ready for us and welcomed us graciously if a little scripted. We also interacted with Ricardo and he was quite pleasant. Our housekeeper was amazing, we slept in and she waited for us leaving us extra towels and pods upon seeing how many we used, so thoughtfull and gracious everytime we saw her around. But then there was Josh. I loved dealing with him. Super gracious and never through clenched teeth, he was professional and affable, a very difficult line to walk and he did so expertly. He was warm and easy to talk to, remembering names after a very brief passing for the rest of our stay. We had a great time, and although we do like to mix it up and try new places regularly, I think we have foud "the spot" Thank you to everyone on the Hotel G team, you made the birthday staycation a very great experience!

I was very impressed with the price point, great location (1 block from Union Square, theatre, restaurants etc.,updated room features, and the cool staff folks. Also a gym, restaurant w happy hour literally next door. The lobby inconsequentially small, and is apparently a work in progress, ( e.g., the floors look very dated-- almost worn down, which might rightfully raise an eyebrow as if hmm, was this a good choice in a semi schetchy area of SF? But man up, get past that initial impression (again, location and price point) it is a minor in terms of the obemmñ

We came here for a concert and i always thought how difficult it was to find a hotel, let alone hotel with parking, in SF. This was by far the most best experience with Hotel G! The front desk attendant was super nice and helpful upon check in. Also advised me about parking, directions and what else was around. it's just a walk 1 minute walk away to the macy center / union square. They lock the doors after hours for safety and i loved that!! i felt safe and secure!!! When we got back from the concert, we felt bad for asking for a few things; bandaids and another blanket, although it was late, the host and security had no hesitation! they had a bright smile, super friendly, and assisted with what sizes i needed. Our stay was a great experience and i will definitely be coming back. what more can you ask for for a clean room, nice bathroom, great hosts, and easy access to centers?! AMAZING STAY. AMAZING PEOPLE!

Location / decor / views from the 12th floor Penthouse and Terrace Suites are Amazing!! The suites are high-end and spacious. Plus, newest Italian restaurant connected to the hotel lobby (food was superb and service top-notched. Perfection in every way. Why 1star: Management need hospitality training. I reserved penthouse back in July for birthday celebration in December. In August friends and I booked a table at the new Italian restaurant, since it's connected to HotelG, why not check out the suite? Great lobby reception service, I explained the plan and request to see the penthouse. The on-site manager showed us all three suites on the 12th floor plus two regular rooms for potential guests. Super excited for the December event. Two weeks ago received email notification, they cannot allow any gathering or events of any sorts, suites are strictly for two guests and sleeping only. I replied, may I speak with a manager, have a manager call me or my friend to discuss? Someone responded and said a manager will contact you soon. I followed up with another email to please call me/my friend, in case there were any misunderstanding. I want to be sure to describe the celebration plans and that I booked a 2nd suite and will book the 3rd suite so we do not alter other guests experience on the lower floors. Few more days went by, general manager replied stating he read my previous emails and know the whole story, no need to explain. But due to fire hazard, the hotel cannot allow more than 6 guests in that penthouse, regardless of the size even if I book the whole floor. Lastly, he stated the hotel do not allow unregistered guests after 7pm. I replied it's a shame, this would have been a great celebration. Kindly confirm cancellation of the two suites. No response. Sent another email to the first manager that walked me through the suites, please kindly confirm cancellation so I do not get charged.. No actually reply, two days later, sent cancellation notices. Is this how a high-end boutique hotel in downtown San Francisco treats their potential guests? Apparently at Hotel G, yes.

I'm so impressed by this hotel. It's so cute and very posh. I was skeptical at first, though although the reviews was good. When I first checked in it was seamless and easy. The front desk folks was friendly and nice. The parking was seamless as well. Overall the bedroom was so cozy and cute, it was really cleaned. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat. I got this hotel because one of my friend was having her bachelorette party in the city and didn't want to keep driving back and forth. Also I love that at a certain time they lock the doors in front and there's security cameras. I felt so safe.

Room was decent, location top notch, but the service is lacking. The doorman/bell hop is terrible. He yelled at us for parking in front of the hotel to unload. Clearly he thought were some ransoms just parking. Bad service from the first interaction. Better service is a must, if they want me to return.

I really enjoyed my stay at Hotel G! I didn't have any problems. Check-in was smooth, and the staff was welcoming, kind, and informative. The lobby was lovely, and I was tempted to hang out there a bit more. The room was the cutest little space that I didn't find different from other hotels I've stayed in while visiting. I loved the decor. I loved the large bed, and the mattress was hella comfortable. The lights on the sides of the bed were such a nice touch! It was *kind of* strange to have the sink in the bedroom? I wasn't fazed by it, but I don't think I've seen that before aha. The bathroom was clean and did what it needed to do. I didn't have any issues with noise coming up from the street or other rooms. Check-out was as easy-breezy as check-in was. I can't wait for my next stay here!

The hotel itself looks nice but the staff is AWFUL. The BLONDE manager is one of the least professional people I have come across. I just wanted to ask a question - she dismissed me in a tone that really just had me take a step back and question if she was talking to me. The Filipino/Asian security harrass me for standing one the STREET. She was constantly telling me to move from NEAR their front door. I was actually near the street and was not even close. I was looking to book a few rooms for my upcoming wedding in 2025 and need 16 rooms total. I felt I was dismissed due to my apperance (I had just gotten off of work and was just stopping by to ask about reservations.) Please be careful if you are a person of color because that is honestly the feeling they gave. Like I wasn't enough to even be allowed to be near the front door. I was not rude - I simply wanted to know if group bookings were available.

If I can give this place 0 stars I would. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST. The actual build of the hotel rooms are bad, all floors creak so loudly, thin walls so you could hear all of your neighbors, and has WORST customer service I have ever experienced. My group had a mix up of reservations and we had a friend coming up with us last minute, but David (person working in lobby) stopped all of us at the lobby and checked for our IDs. There were many people walking through the lobby that he did NOT check their IDs for. We felt like this was targeted, and other reviews had the same issue with David checking IDs for only certain people. At 3AM, he made 1 of our friends leave, and told us she has 3 mins to pack her stuff and go or else he's calling the cops. Instead of giving us solutions, like booking an extra room, or being accommodating, or compassionate-- he threatened us. At 3AM. At a city we were just visiting. We felt so unsafe, we are all a group of young women, and felt like we had no options. The tone he used was so unwelcoming and very condescending. No person should ever be talked to like that. Apparently David has had so many complains (past reviews are evident of that) but there are obviously no consequences for his actions, mistreatment, and unjust ways. Hotel G as a franchise needs to do something about this employee because it is obviously showing that they tolerate racism, disrespectfulness, and awful customer service. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Now I know why it's called Hotel "G" -- "G" for Grimy

Stayed here for a night as we were in town for a concert in SF. This place was near the concert we were going too. Check in went smooth and when we got to our room we found out the hotel upgraded us and we got a free bottle of wine! The room looked like a small but very roomful studio. We liked that the tv was mounted and we were able to move it, a big walk in closet, and the bed was very comfortable as well. I would definitely stay here again. Only downside is they don't have a parking lot or valet. You will either have to park your car in a public parking lot around the corner or park in valet at the hotel next door. Also they didn't have a bar either. Those are the reasons why is put one star down.

So. I stayed in room 803. I may as well have stayed in room 801 and 802 as there is no acoustic treatment at all it's almost as if guests in adjoining rooms are in your room. From their conversations to the TV to the sound of them on the toilet. your with them separated by a door with zero acoustic treatment. Worst nights sleep I have ever had. Room 802 had the tv on till 1.30 am. Then they started to snore. Seriously ....., joke of a hotel.

I love this hotel! It doesn't look like much from the outside but the actual room itself is great. Only reason why I docked off a star is because the parking is a bit confusing but that's SF for you. I bought parking on my phone for the Westin because that's where guests from Hotel G have to park. I showed the valet the parking and they said I had to buy it from the hotel itself. Other than the parking, I enjoyed that you can text a phone number for any extra towels or robes. Also the nespresso in the room was so cool! Most hotels just have a standard coffee maker. This hotel is super close and basically walking distance to Union Square also :) I will definitely be staying here when I feel like going on a weekend getaway to SF.

I'm really surprised to see the mix reviews for this hotel. This has hands down been the most professional, courteous and accommodating places I have stayed at. My stay is for 4 days & 3 nights and I booked a room with a King bed. They do lock their front doors and have security security present when it gets late which is nice to feel protected. The place is extremely clean, with a brutalism feel too it. Hallways are carpeted but the rooms have concrete flooring and wooden furniture. Very unique, feels a mix between renovated brutal modern. Overall love the aesthetics. The part that made me give this place 5 stars is their service. The room I stayed at has an adjoining room that is connected by a door. The first night there was no issues, second night it was clear how thin the door was. The family next door was talking normally but we could hear them very clearly. I was a bit shy to ask the lobby if there's anything the can do, especially since it was 9pm on a Sunday. Not only did they validate my concerns, but 10 minutes later they had keys for another room ready for me and my partner. They apologized profusely and gave us a free water, which was definitely not needed but greatly appreciated! I did also wake up 4am the next morning panicking because I had left some stuff in the original room and the lady working the front immediately helped me out to retrieve stuff I left. I haven't even checked out yet, but I can say this has been truly amazing stay! Pros + Swift Check In + Locked entrances with security + Complimentary microwave on request + Free in-room coffee pods & tea + Free 24/7 hour wifi + 24/7 access to gyms + Actual blackout curtains (no gaps or light bleeding through) + Absolutely amazing service + There is shared parking with the hotel next door Cons - Room 1207, the tv is extremely slanted. Like it's so bad it's pretty hilarious more than it is upsetting. - Combination of concrete floors and minimal furniture leads to noise traveling, especially between adjoining hotel room doors. You will be able to hear your neighbors talk at a moderate tone very clear. - Wifi is 10mbps If any management sees please extend my thanks to all the staff from reception to cleaning to security and everyone for making my stay from 11/26/2022-11/29/2022 absolutely amazing.

Nice hotel right in Union Square. Location makes it pretty easy to walk to a lot of SF neighborhoods, as well as public transit - Muni, BART, and the famous cable car - are all right down the block. We booked a Good King room, and were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a Greatest King room the day we checked in. The room was very clean, and quite spacious, both by SF standards and just in general, however the bathroom was still small, but served its purpose. The only thing I didn't like was that the bathroom sink basin was tiny. Fine for hand washing, but when I'd wash my face in it in the morning, I'd always get water all over the floor. Overall, not a huge deal though. The bed and pillows were comfortable, and I really appreciated that there were black out shades with side channels, which helped the room get very dark at night. We were on a high floor, and during the day with the shades up, the room got a lot of natural light, which was also nice. The design of the room and hotel are well thought out, and staff were all friendly and helpful. When I needed extra towels or pillows, housekeeping brought them up very fast. Parking is valet, and is $45/night right next door at the Westin garage. Super easy to get to, and the price is about the lowest I've personally seen an SF hotel charge for parking.

I cannot say enough good things about Hotel G. My boyfriend and I stayed three days and it was an incredible experience. The location was perfect; it was so close to a lot of delicious restaurants, Chinatown, Little Italy, and great entertainment. The room was neat and the rich natural lighting was an additional perk. By far, the most enriching part of our stay was the kind hotel staff. Beyond generous and hospitable, they met our every need with a smile and did not hesitate to accommodate our requests. If you have any remaining hesitations about travel due to COVID, you can rest assured knowing that the hotel is exceptionally clean and the staff do what they can to make you feel safe and healthy. We will definitely be returning to Hotel G.

hotel itself was great. but they snuck in an extra 30$ per night for "facilities". Aren't the facilities what I'm... paying for with the room? I asked for a late check out and the guy at the front said he can only extend it 30 min because there's a big party coming in. I pushed back and asked if there's any flexibility and he said no but If I want to extend its 70+ dollars depending on how many hours. When I told him that makes no sense / how could the room not be available because of the big party and only available with extra payment he gave me a one hour late checkout instead of 30 min. they wouldn't let me stay and use the meeting room for my call unless I coordinated with the manager (and paid more.. of course) so I had to find a private office somewhere in SF after they rushed me out of what was pretty much an empty hotel because they had a "big party". Possibly was treated like this because im young, a girl, or look ethnic (the latter came to mind after reading other reviews). Seems like the second you step foot in the hotel theyre figuring out how to uncharge you. save yourself the headache there are plenty of hotels just as nice or nicer for the same price

My boyfriend and I booked this place for a four day stay in San Francisco. After searching for hotels near union square, we came across this hotel and decided to book it based on the pictures. The hotel room was airy and bright and exactly as pictured. The hotel seems to have been recently remodeled with some remnants of its past. The bed was comfortable with soft pillows and clean linens. The bathroom is small as others have pointed out but it served its purpose. The front desk staff were always helpful whenever we had questions about restaurants, wine bars, parking options near the hotel, and places to avoid when walking around the city late at night. The hotel is walking distance (granted you don't mind some steep hills) from Chinatown, little Italy, Oracle park, shopping, art galleries, theaters, restaurants, fisherman's wharf, public transportation, and bars. The hotel felt very safe with some added security features including front lobby doors that are locked at night and the only way to get in is to be buzzed in by the front desk staff. Furthermore, the elevator requires you swipe your room key to get to the floor you are staying on. Overall a great stay and we will definitely stay here on our next trip to San Francisco. The only reason I didn't give it a five star review was the floor is cold and hard when walking barefoot on it so don't forget your slippers.

Hotel is a amazing place. Great staff especially the restaurant downstairs Butler. They do have a in room dinning serving. I prefer to head downstairs the staff very friendly. They do have a bar and food... butlermenu.com if you want food delivery to your room or hotel. It's a must see and yes I am recommending Hotel G and Butler as a wonderful recommendation...

This is hotel was always a hotel for over a 100 years. The newest owners did a light renovation so you can see some of the history. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and clean. They even have a cool coffee machine. I've stayed at other places in San Fran, so don't be surprised that the bathroom is small, but over all the is a great hotel with great staff. It has a gym, but why would you use it since you'll be climbing all the hills in the city. This hotel is highly recommended and close to everything.

Nice and clean. That's about as good as it gets for a quick stay in the city for business. The rooms are perfectly fine, fairly roomy and decently appointed. The major issue I had with this hotel are the wood floors. While they look great, they also make a lot of noise from the hallways to the rooms adjacent to mine. You can hear ever step someone takes walking down the hallway or in the room next to you. I think I got lucky because it seem to settle down at about 11pm. I could see if you had neighbors that came back to the room late, you'd be able to hear every step. The lobby is very small with only about two places to sit if you're waiting to meet someone. The hotel itself is well located in SF, close to Union Square and lots of shopping, theaters and dining. Overall, it's a good place to stay and one I would try again.

It was nice when walking in the front then when trying to check in my friends was walking with me and they didn't allow them to come up and drop off there things in my hotel. White man with gray slick back hair was being very rude and my brother didn't feel like staying there no more because he didn't make us feel welcomed... also he let others guest of the hotel go upstairs with there friends but I'm thinking because of the color of there skin color he did not. This was the worst experience that I had with a hotel and do not recommend if you are a person of color that wants to be treated like shit.

AVOID!!! UNETHICAL, BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES. Booked this establishment many months ago for a Memorial weekend trip, but hotel manager Roger Keeton emails me saying that they had to cancel the booking. Not much of an explanation given. I check the price and the prices jumped from a little over $100 to near $800. Even worst I get a message from my credit card saying I was the one that cancelled. This place is super shady and dishonest.

First, check-in and check-out were smooth. The staff is very friendly. Alice was great with personal emails. The room was clean and. spacious. Unfortunately, with all the wonderful reviews, I fear that possibly, these past guests had either carpet or tile in their rooms, as here is our story, made quickly: 1) Quick check-in, nice staff, went to room, had to park in a garage not really part of this hotel. Weird. But not a big dea. 2) Got to room - no flooring at all - concrete floor, looked terrible, but it was clean. Hard to walk around, very hard on feet, etc. Where floor met walls was disgusting - but again, I believe it was clean. 3) Toilet was less than 3" away from shower - even my Asian wife couldn't sit on the 'throne' without having to adjust her body. SERIOUS faux-pa here... toilets should not be against walls... I am 6' and 285lbs. Needless to say, it was a terrible experience in the rest room. But the room was clean! 4) Shower was, literally, 25" x 38" .... this was the smallest shower I have ever been in during my lifetime. Room 1104. 5) *** Window-Mounted A/C and Heating (HVAC) Unit. Now, while this is not a negative in and of itself, the damn thing should not be in a hotel of this level (but now, maybe so?), and the thing was loud... we had it on low heat, and it would turn on and off, and again, very loud. And the hotel staff ABSOLUTELY knew about it... but nobody serviced it. I took video, pictures.. 6) Went downstairs the very next day and checked-out. Gave the reasons, of course, to the nice person at the desk. Expected some type of empathy, or 'we're sorry', but got nothing. We stayed, so I'll not contact the cc company - they can keep the money. But this is a hotel that should be $99 per night, but with carpet, $149 per night. You simply cannot have rooms with tiny showers unless you reserve for tiny people. But there ya go - nice people, clean hotel, terrible maintenance, no flooring... decide for yourself. We went next-door to the Westin - have a MUCH better experience. I would highly search for a better place unless you are never going to be at the room and are small. Truthfully, Leland Berliner

I wound up booking Hotel G due to its combination of decently affordable price (especially for San Fran!), proximity to Union Square, and hipster charm. Overall I enjoyed my stay! The rooms are cute and I was very impressed with how effective the hotel's black out shades were. The gym, restaurant, and "secret" bar are all also nice additions to the property. We did have a few minor issues with our stay. For starters, the rooms, while lovely, need some practical updates. The shower was gigantic but only had one teeny tiny shower caddy screwed onto the wall for four people. There's tons of space in the shower stall to add more storage. Also, the room was definitely lacking in accessible electrical outlets. Finally, although we didn't have any trouble with noise from our neighboring rooms, the hallway was another story. We were right next to the elevator and could hear the bell dinging all night long, as well as the footsteps/conversations/what have you of every person walking up and down the hall. If you stay here, request a room as far away from the elevator as possible. All things considered, I would stay here again. The rooms were clean, and for the location you can't beat the price.

This boutique hotel is conveniently located off Union Square. It boasts a friendly, helpful staff and a unique design. A few things need to be mentioned... one bad, and the others just needs to be brought up to make potential guests aware. First, the bed is the single worst POS I've slept on outside of a roadside motel. 2 cavernous impressions on either side of the king... change the mattress pronto! I can not recommend this hotel on that fact alone... but that's an easy enough change if they commit to it. Second, the marketing photos of this place make it appear much more polished than it is. The reality is that this is an old building, and the designers through the renovation are celebrating it's 'oldness.' To be clear, this is a gritty place... some people might find it charming and authentic, while others might think it looks like a crappy dilapidated tenement building. Either way, it has character... just be aware this isn't some Restoration Hardware themed hotel... it's actually an old building that has lots of flaws and scars on display. I personally thought it was pretty cool but I was surprised at the rawness having only seen the marketing shots. Some other basic issues- Lighting levels in the room were inadequate- Sound is an issue... could hear every conversation and footstep in the hallway/ adjacent rooms. Great potential... fix the beds... maybe add some sound deadening materials, and you've got a great place for people seeking out an 'authentic' San Francisco hotel experience.

Had to travel and stay in SF for 3 nights. The company paid for and booked the room for me. The stay was decent besides some inconveniences below. 1. There is no valet parking in same building. Valet is next door at the St Francis. Therefore if you travel with lots of bags, it's a hassle. I'm not even sure if they have bell service. On the day I checked out, I had to get the cart, and pulled my stuff from the room to garage next door at 4:00am myself. 2. Hotel shuts down 7:00 pm - 07:00am so it is a bit annoying coming and going requiring always have to pull the key out of wallet. elevator requires key to operate, even to 2nd floor where ice maker is at. 3. Microwave is available upon request. I called in for one at 06:00am and was told/asked to call back during the day to confirm since I asked to have confirmation that I will have it and do not want to come back after 5:00pm to find out. I had to ask: can you call or text me instead of I have to call you. :-(

This is the 4th time I stayed at Hotel G, with the hubby. The hotel is delightful. It's beautifully renovated with tasteful design that's modern and eclectic. The rooms are generous and functional. All spaces are super clean. It makes me feel safer with Covid precautions. The hotel location cannot be beat, you're within walking distance of so many attractions. There are tons of good restaurants and bars nearby. And everyone in Hotel G is friendly and efficient. We will be back soon!

One word comes to mind, and it's FANTASTIC! My (now) Wife and our Family decided to stay in Hotel G for the weekend, as we Celebrated our upcoming Wedding! The Hotel Staff and especially Mr.Keaton (no relation to Michael lol) did an AMAZING job of making our stay both pleasant and extremely comfortable. My Wife and I stayed in the G Terrace Suite. It was both very spacious, comfortable, and clean. The outside fireplace was a beautiful touch. After notifying the hotel manager that we'd be expecting more family, he strategically placed all of them on the 12th floor (which gave them easier access to us on the 14th). We were even surprised to come back into our room after our Nuptials to a complementary Glass of Champagne! It was little thing like that and more that made Hotel G THE ONLY destination for my family and I anytime we visit San Francisco. I cannot put into words how amazing our stay was at Hotel G! With a 24/7 check-in, it was delightful to be able to get into our room after a long day of travel and flight delays. All of the workers were so quick to delver anything needed up to the room. The room itself was super clean and the perfect size for two. On top of the interior of the hotel, the location of the hotel is perfect. Being just West of a ton of shopping and restaurants. A few blocks down gets somewhat intense for two young girls, but Hotel G's multiple security measures helped me feel extremely safe. I have always loved the idea of boutique hotels and the aesthetic they provide but this one topped the charts!! Thank you so much for an amazing stay.

My stay at Hotel G was so great! I was in the city for one night and was warmly welcomed and checked into my room and given plenty of dinner recommendations. The location was perfect, just a quick walk or Lyft away from anywhere in the city. Even though the location is perfect for doing one of about 1,000 things, honestly one of my favorite parts about my whole stay, though, was the room and hotel itself. I appreciated that the vintage feel of the room was kept along with modern amenities and stylish decor that was definitely new, but nodded to the era of the building. Then there's the SUPER comfortable bed, a beautiful mid-century modern table and seating area, and a plush robe to lounge around in the morning in, plus a luxurious and well-stocked shower and bathroom. The huge windows in the room with blackout curtains plus gauzy curtains ensured I could let in (or block out) the right amount of natural light. It really is a gorgeous, very well decorated room. And the rest of the hotel is wonderfully decorated--stylish and beautifully curated but at the same time welcoming and cozy. I'll definitely be back soon!

Was expecting a small, dark, and cramped SF hotel room. However we were upgraded and our room was spacious, clean, and fairly bright. Location is great. The gym is neat and I liked that they required rsvps so multiple people could not use the facility simultaneously. Vaccination cards were required to book. Front desk staff was friendly. Cons were a tiny blood stain on the bedding and black particles in the water. Could be a charcoal filter but used the complimentary boxed water they gave us to brush our teeth to be safe.

The first part of our stay was at this hotel. Definitely a smaller boutique style hotel. It's fairly an old building that was given a boutique makeover. The location is great as it is a couple of blocks from Union Square area. There was only one check in counter on the bottom. Cool thing - there's an entrance to the Benjamin Cooper bar on the first floor (above ground floor)

My husband and I came from a long night of traveling. We were anxious to get to our $400/night room at Hotel G. However, when we entered we were greeted by a huge cockroach! I was nervous to sleep in the room with it alive and wondered if their were more. Nevertheless, because we were so tired my husband killed it and we slept. The next morning, I informed the staff of the problem. First they informed me they couldn't do anything because I booked through a third party (priceline). Then, they assured me the manager will be calling me. This happened Sunday morning. It is now Tuesday morning and I still haven't heard from anyone. This hotel looks nice, but DO NOT stay here. They do not understand proper customer service nor cleanliness.

Had a great time here for my trip to SF. The hotel is a block away from Union Square, so it is very centrally located for SF. There are no doormen or bellmen, but that's fine, I can handle my own luggage. I rolled up to the no parking zone, unloaded my luggage, locked the car and headed in, handing off the keys for the valet to move the car at their leisure. The valet system is OK, they say they need 20 minutes or so, but the car was always waiting for me when I was ready for it. The room is nice, but we did book "the greatest king," so I have no idea how the other rooms are. We were on the top floor, so there was a bit of a view of the rooftops, but no real view to speak of. The windows are all double pane, so it does a good job of shutting out the street noise, and the black-out curtains are freaking awesome if you want to sleep in. The room itself is fairly roomy (again this was the biggest room) with a nice king bed, a small sofa, a table, a fridge, and a Nespresso (classic) machine. The do provide capsules, but they are not Nespresso, merely compatible, so if you have the machine at home, I would suggest bringing your own pods (like we do). You also need to bring your own frother (if you are into that sort of thing), but it was nice not having to bring my machine with me (as I have done on several other trips). The bathroom only has a shower, but it was good size with plenty of warm water. The closet was not overly efficient and there was not a lot of drawer space, but we were on a short trip, not moving in, so we made it work.

A good 3-3.5, but I'm rounding up here because of location. The hotel is decent, think minimalist meets hipster rustic chic. In other words they get away without doing much renovation as it's viewed as cool, artsy, vintage, and rustic. Came to the city for a few days of staycation time. It is tiny. The room not too spacious but that's ok. Given the white paint, exposed walls, it definitely makes it seem somewhat more spacious than it is. The one thing that really bugged me was the closet door. Or lack thereof. They have a safe in the closet which seems to be protruding far enough out that there cannot be a closet door. But, it does strike me as pretty unsightly, basically downright ugly. So, hotel decor aside, when you're in SF, do you really want to just sit in a hotel tho?! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I think the key here is location. You want to be downtown somewhere walkable, with plenty of bars and restaurants nearby. And that's definitely this location. If you're feeling touristy, you could walk to Union Square in a few steps. But, within a block or two you have plenty of great food and drink choices. Staff is fantastic. Super helpful and accommodating. Parking is in another garage. It's valet only, if you want to brave it, you could park elsewhere and walk or something and save a few bucks. I believe it was $50+ to park here. Would come back, but really more based on pricing/availability/options. Wouldn't insanely recommend it.

A decent price compared to hotels in the other area. Good location near union square and located near lots of restaurants; walking distance to the cable car. Everyone is really nice but the service is hit or miss -- they helped book our car rental before we arrived, but when we asked someone else where our car was reserved he had no idea. We then asked someone about late check out and he said we would have to contact the morning shift because he had no idea. We somehow got upgraded to an executive king suite on the top floor. The hotel room attempts to be hipster and "raw" but it doesn't quite come off elegantly. The room is spacious (or at least the executive suite has a living room couch area) but the bathrooms are tiny and I hate that you have to reach behind the toilet to turn on the light. There is also no space to leave the blow dryer. They have a pretty high tech gym with tvs and a hidden bar. For this price I'll take it, but there needs to be better communication amongst the staff.

Amazing location! I was staying over because I was watching a concert at August Hall. No joke the Hall is right around the corner from the hotel. You can request a microwave, kettle, etc. for free and they'll bring it up for you. Staff are nice and very helpful. Hotel is also very secure. After I checked out, the staff let me leave my bags with them so I could grab some breakfast. During the night, I was woken up by someone throwing up next-door but that was uncontrollable from the hotel. Stay here! It's a great location.
