Outstandingly Affordable Key Hotels in Spain

"Another country option not far from the historic center of Granada, Hotel La Almunia del Valle feels like paradise among the impressive mountains of the Sierra Nevada. With access to both the city and the mountains, and surrounded by mountain trails, it’s the perfect starting point for exploring the region. At the hotel, you’ll find stunning views from stone terraces, and an outdoor pool fed with water from the mountains beyond." - The MICHELIN Guide

What a find! Fabulous tranquil setting, with wonderful scenery, wonderful staff who couldn't be more helpful and absolutely fantastic food both at breakfast and evening meals. Nothing is too much trouble and they go out of their way to ensure your stay is wonderful. Such a cosy intimate atmosphere that you feel you are a guest of the host. Everything was perfect and we will be back. One of the absolutely best hotels we have ever stayed in!

It is very hard to find fault with any aspect of this excellent boutique hotel. Tucked away in a rural area but within 20 minutes drive to Granada, the staff here are friendly, interested and genuinely want you to have the best time. The hotel owner is around all the time, checking all is as you expect with your room and the service. ||Of particular note is the kitchen. From the superb array of freshly prepared local specialities for breakfast to the imaginative and delicious five course dinners, you know you are in the hands of a highly competent chef and his staff. The wine list is short, well chosen and good value. ||You would go a long way to find another hotel offering such high quality service at a very reasonable price.

We wanted to tour the Sierra Nevada mountains in addition to seeing The Alhambra and Granada so we decided to stay in Monachil at the foot of the mountain range. This unique hotel fit the bill. It is about a twenty minute drive from Granada but totally removed from the tourist hustle and bustle. Our lovely room with balcony overlooked the mountains and we were awoken by roosters, not by traffic noise. The breakfast is served on the terrace overlooking the mountains and is an idyllic way to start the day. We did not opt for the dinner since we were unsure of when we'd finish touring each day so we ate in local Monachil restaurants. The staff is friendly and speaks English. Highly recommended. One does need a car to stay here and visitors should be aware that the turn-off to the hotel property is three quarters of a mile up a two way road barely wide enough for one car. If one met another car travelling in the opposite direction (which happened to us twice), one needed to back up to one of the few turnouts where a car could squeeze past. With a stone wall on one side, a fence on the other, and a couple of blind curves, this was quite a challenge, especially in the dark!

This is the first place I've ever stayed in that feels like true 'home away from home.' We felt so incredibly looked after. Patricia (the owner) and her team have created a calm, tranquil place that was an absolute joy to experience. The highlight has to be the mountain views, the walks in the Sierra Nevada and the home cooked food (the first chef of the week was miles better than the 2nd in our opinion). The thought and level of detail that goes into making this place makes it stand out. It is truly special and unique. The bedrooms and the balcony were also wonderful. The sustainable efforts are another reason to choose this family-run hotel, it's the best way to vote with your wallet when travelling in Spain. Although there are still areas for improvement in terms of sustainability (offering fish and meat everyday is the biggest one) they are clearly one of the leading sustainable hotels in Spain.

This was a second stay for us at this wonderful hotel. We had a great time last year, and were eager to return.|What can I say? Probably even better second time around! |The highest praise of all must go to the staff here, all of whom are very friendly but also work so hard to ensure you have a great time, and nothing is too much trouble for them all, no exceptions! |We had great weather, and the grounds are just so peaceful if you want to relax by the pool during the day. |You need to be aware there is no daytime bar or catering facilities, just a basic honesty bar - and you also really do need a car, to reach it or visit Granada for example. |Breakfast is so tasty, and varies each day - but lots of fresh dishes, fruit, bread, cakes etc!|We ate in the restaurant all four evenings, and we opted for either fish or vegetarian choices and the food was honestly amazing, the chef is fantastic. |The fellow guests all seem of similar mind, and it’s great to stay amongst very varied nationalities which it seems to attract. |We love this place and will certainly return at our soonest opportunity! |Thanks Almunia!

We had the most amazing time only made very special by the owner Patricia who is passionate about her home and her business. We were treated as one of the family and she always asked what she could|do to improve.|The situation of the hotel is very special with fantastic views over the Sierra Nevada and we spent 3 days, relaxing, walking and generally having a wonderful time.|The breakfast in the terrace were special as all the produce was sought locally,|With specialty jams, honeys, meats and cheeses. Lovely homemade cakes. Everything you could wish for was here. |We are at the hotel every night and the food was Michelin star. We had four courses and every dish was a delight. The staff were extremely helpful and nothing was too much. Our room was beautiful and we had a large terrace to sit on. |Everything about this place was a piece of heaven and we will be back to take advantage of this beautiful place.

We stayed with our family at La Almunia del Valle, it is a great little hotel, 20 min driving from Granada. The hotel is clean and our room was spacious. The hotel has amazing views over the mountain and a nice pool in the garden. The food was very good, every morning different, original and refined options for breakfast. In the evening a very good menu which changes every day. The host and staff were very friendly and had lots of good tips about the area and Granada. Would recommend to anybody who wants to relax.

La Almunia is absolutely charming, with lovely rooms, a beautiful setting, and easy access to Granada. Our rooms were so reasonable that we worried it was not going to be luxurious. That fear was misplaced. La Almunia is better than hotels more than twice as expensive.||Dinner was excellent! It is three courses plus dessert (and an amuse bouche). It is better than hot restaurants at home in Washington. The dishes were also pretty healthy, making it a guilt-free pleasure. Breakfast was very good too. It is more restrained than dinner, but had a good number of unique prepared dishes for a buffet||The hotel is built into a steep hill and has a few levels, so there is always a view over the valley into the mountains. That includes the rooms, all of which have a seating area on the terrace where we enjoyed sitting and reading. The rooms are nicely furnished and comfortable. The shower was particularly nice.||One thing that sets La Almunia apart is its charm. The owner, Patricia, is incredibly warm and makes a point of meeting every guest at breakfast and welcoming them to "her house." You can also find her dogs roaming around the property.||The one area for improvement was that it felt a bit understaffed. The staff was friendly and worked hard, but there were too many guests to get the attention the very best hotels can offer. I would like to see them charge a bit more and have more help at breakfast and dinner.
