La Almunia del Valle, near Granada, Spain - Explore & Book

"You’re in the first folds of the Sierra Nevada here, but only a 15-minute drive from the centre of Granada. Spectacular landscape encircles you: mountains rise across the valley, streams gurgle, pine forests cling to the hills. If you want to walk, you can strike out from the front door (maps and walking sticks are on hand); alternatively, sit out by the pool in the shade of an ancient fig tree and drink in the views. As for the house, well, that’s not bad either, a beautifully orchestrated commingling of contemporary art, furnishings and fittings with the building's more rustic base elements of slate and dressed stone: rustic chic at its very most appealing. It’s built into the side of a hill and a couple of the rooms have raw stone walls. Elegant, uncluttered bedrooms come with long views and crisp linen, a fire smoulders in the first-floor sitting room in cooler months, and summer suppers are taken up on the rooftop terrace, where, on clear nights, you’ll see the moon slip over the mountain and light up the valley below. Magical. Highs The fabulous setting on the side of a hill has mountains all aroundThe comfortable and stylish bedrooms offer great value for moneyBeautiful Granada and the magnificent Alhambra, the finest palace in Spain, are just 15 minutes away; the Sierra Nevada National Park is great for long walks, horse riding and mountain bikingPatricia and Manuel are consummately good hosts: warm, caring and genuinely keen for you to experience the best of Granada and its sierraSustainability is a priority; solar panels generate the electricity, guests are encouraged to recycle, single-use plastics are cleverly avoidedLa Almunia has a droolingly romantic, hidden away feel to it: you can't fail to slip into easy R&R at this place Lows The set menu for dinner offers no choice. But menus are discussed in advance, any allergies or veggie leanings accommodated, and the produce is all locally sourced. Note you need to say 24 hours in advance if you want an evening meal If you want the bars and clubs of the big city, you’ll have to drive down to Granada each nightYou’re up in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, at the end of a long country road (with a narrow access road at the end), so you’ll need a car to get here" - Tom Bell

La Almunia del Valle | Best places to stay in the Sierra de Nevada

"If you’d love to combine the enchantment of Granada with hikes in the Sierra Nevada, this rustic-chic hotel, (‘Almunia’ is Arabic for country estate) immersed in gorgeous mountain scenery, has it all. Located a 10-minute drive from Granada and 20 minutes from the ski resort, it combines comfy designer furnishings, contemporary art, and stone and slate throughout. There’s a beautiful outdoor pool, and after a day’s exploring, you can sink into a sofa in the big common room by the fireplace, and peruse the hotel’s library of travel books over a cocktail. An exceptional buffet breakfast starts the day, and guests can book delicious dinners made with local produce, served on the panoramic terrace. Hosts Patricia and Manuel are delightful and know all the local trails; the one through Los Cahorros Gorge, one of the great beauty spots of the sierra, is only 2km away. " - Dana Facaros

Absolutely stunning stay near Granada! This hotel is tucked away in a peaceful, beautiful area with breathtaking mountain views right from the room. Our room was flawless – a lovely, secluded terrace, a gorgeous bathroom with a huge shower, and the most comfortable bed I’ve slept in for a long time. Breakfasts were a daily highlight – fresh and delicious, with eggs made to order and excellent coffee! If you stay for dinner (which you absolutely should), the food is hands down the best I’ve eaten. As a vegetarian, it was such a joy to be in Spain and eat fresh, healthy, food - Michelin stars all round if it was up to me! The hotel is also perfectly located – just a 20-minute drive from the Alhambra, making it ideal for a day trip without the hassle of staying in the city. Nearby, there’s a good walk (with five bridges to cross by a gorge), a beautiful three-hour hike that the staff will recommend – it’s well worth the effort. The staff are fantastic – warm, welcoming, and always helpful. All in all, a perfect escape – I can’t wait to return. Thank you!!

I don’t know if you remember me but I’m the guy playing all day with the Rita the cat and Pipa the dog in April. The food was amazing. Starter, another starter, main course and finally desert; I know that you usually have that but now the portions weren’t too massive and not too small either. I also liked the fusions you made like paella but instead of rice you used noodles 👍. If we start talking about the breakfast buffet, it was MASSIVE, with everything you would want in it. Our room (we had a terrace) was perfect. The pool, I loved how you have a perfect view from there onto the Sierra Nevada, crazy. P.S. just one thing to improve on, you probably already have but the shower head in room 8 was not working very well. But of course, that’s just a minor detail. Thanks again fir making me and my family’s stay so amazing and wish you all good luck 😜👍

We loved our 2 night stay at this beautiful bed and breakfast hotel. The location is perfectly nestled in a quiet area amongst the valley and mountains. The views from every corner are spectacular. The breakfast was top quality with fresh fruits, baked goods, juices, and delicious coffee. The rooms are clean, spacious, and modern. The owner and staff are extremely friendly, courteous, and helpful. We will definitely come back!

Gorgeous hotel in the hills with fantastic service, food, and views! I appreciated the commitment to low-waste, friendliness of the staff, and the company of Rita the cat 😻 great value, definitely felt more peaceful and luxurious than some more exclusive places I’ve visited!

What a perfect little place for a weekend gateway 🍃 This place was recommended to my partner and he booked it as a surprise for valentine's day. We were very welcomed by the staff & owners. We felt at home. I love the hotel's concept: eco conscious, rustic decor and locally sourced materials. Not to mention the locally seasonal food which for me, tops everything. We had an amazing experience at dinner (14th of February), with special dessert to celebrate the occasion. We're definitely coming back and I'll also recommend it to friends and family.

Our second visit to this lovely hotel and we were not disappointed. It’s such a beautiful place to stay and the staff could not be more helpful. The evening meals are just amazing with 4 delicious courses each night and the breakfasts are to die for

This was one of my favorite hotel experiences to date. We did a road trip of southern Spain and spent 4 nights here as a base for Granada. We spent two days exploring Granada and one day hiking the lovely trails that you can access by foot from the hotel (my favorite part of our entire trip). We spent a lot of time at the hotel itself as the room was comfortable, quiet, and had amazing views. The staff was all very kind and helpful and the breakfast was amazing with plenty of options. The staff would come around at breakfast to tell us the dinner menu so we could choose if we wanted to make a reservation or not. We did 3 dinners and they were all great and we felt fairly priced for a 5 course meal. They even let us split an entree one day that we had eaten too big of a lunch and discounted the dinner price to match. It was a lovely experience getting to walk to over dinner from our room, eat and drink wine by the fire, and relax during the evening. I do wish we had gotten to experience the pool as it looked beautiful, but it was out of season and too cold. The two dogs on the property were a bonus for us as we missed our furry friend that stayed home. This stay was the highlight of our trip and I will hope to come back one day!
