Yelp
The hotel is nicely appointed, well situated, and the views are beautiful.
But the mattress was abysmal, the (front-desk and housekeeping) service was spotty, and the in-room food service was a mixed bag.
Admittedly, our poor French did not help, but we expected better from a five-star hotel (the service at our hotel in Paris was worlds better).
Highs:
-The views of La Place Bellecour really were phenomenal. The hotel is well situated relative to the bars, restaurants, and shopping of Lyon.
-Our room was beautifully appointed.
-We ordered breakfast in our room one morning. While it wasn't cheap (€25/per), it was hearty and quite good.
Lows:
-The mattress was so saggy that it hurt our backs. Their mattresses have a pillow-top cover which is very nice (their 'cocoon bed'), but the mattress itself was totally unsupportive. It felt like my back was bowing all night.
My wife was so uncomfortable that she spent the last two nights sleeping on the floor.
-The front-desk and housekeeping service was spotty. When we requested a blanket one morning we had to ask again that afternoon; we had to ask them to refill the coffee-pods for our in-room machine; our 'greeting' upon arrival was cold; etc. Small issues, but we expected better.
-Room service, other than the breakfast, was mediocre. The croque monsieur I ordered was cold on the inside...
