"At the foot of the Vauban Citadel, this smart hotel occupies the former convent of the Poor Clares. The restaurant provides a cosy setting, with old parquet floors and tablecloths, and – a major asset – its terrace overlooking the park! Chef Hugo Mathieu (trained in Lyon's top restaurants) is no novice, judging by his polished dishes: glazed pea velouté, cod loin fillet cooked at 50C, crispy pistachio tartlet." - Michelin Inspector

Hard to fully describe the experience at this wonderful property. Although older as it was originally a convent the variations of the different rooms gives it great character. The location above the hill gives great views. The most amazing part of this property was the people. In the bar, resturaunt and front desk they made our experience winderful. A very romantic place to spend a weekend and explore the town below. Highly recommend this to anyone for a unique experience. People make a difference and they deserve a high rating!

This hotel was the highlight of our trip to the region.|It was an outstanding experience across the board, from location and exemplary service to helpfullness and friendliness. This is a must stay place in Besancon.|Lisa and Thibault, at the front desk, were a pleasure to interact with. The breakfast staff, Alida and Nadja provided superb service. Our room was clean and beautifully located.|The hotel has its own superb garden and it is within walking (climbing) distance from the not to be missed Citadel. Bravo!

Huge potential but major disappointment.|Short one night stay that turned out to be more than enough.|Received a room for disabled people, nothing you can do when you get to your room at 03:00AM with a property packed. Still significantly different from what you can see on the website, specifically the bathroom.|Anyway, you carry on and try to rest. Bedding quality is average, at best.|Breakfast was a zoo, kids crying and screaming all over the place. Difficult to have a relaxing time starting your day with parents contemplating their kids throwing silverware on the floor.|Breakfast selection is minimalist, well under par for that category and price.|And what to say about the paying car park? Rain or shine, dust and gravel will make sure that your car is dirtier when you leave then it was when you arrived.|A positive note, staff is nice.

Beautiful historic small hotel with outstanding staff.|This small hotel is a true gem- it’s a converted church, restored beautifully with cosy rooms. Very comfortable beds and nice sized bathroom with big shower. |What’s truely special about this hotel is the staff- from reception desk to breakfast ladies, everyone is so sweet and accommodating. Food is excellent and great selection of wines. Haven’t tried their spa area but it looks beautiful. Highly recommend and would definitely return when I am back in the area. Thank you for a great stay

The hotel wants to be upscale but is not. Service is very much dependent on the person, with one that recommends even places to see and to dine in, and the other seeming to be completely disinterested and focusing on a minimalist service. Rooms are very average, the bathrooms are spacious but beds are not comfortable at all (it felt as if the mattresses were as old as the building). Parking on the ground (need to book however) which is good. Location is very central. We did not use the spa, however and their own restaurant was closed.

After a very busy few days in Disney, we came to Hotel Le Sauvage to relax and recover! A beautiful calm environment, very friendly and helpful staff throughout the hotel. Excellent breakfast. The old town of|Besançon all within walking distance. Our only disappoint was the evening meal in the hotel restaurant which we were told is under different ownership.

Nice hotel, quiet , very difficult to get to, but very basic. Yes, it is clean, nice service in reception, but it is not 4* standard. May be 3*. The bed is average, room is bare. No minibar, no towel heater, no bedside cabinets / unit ( just a very small shelf not enough even for a phone). The breakfast is ok but basic. I have asked for fruit with no kiwi because of allergy, no can do )|The basic price for the room is ok, but to take extra for breakfast, parking and the spa? Not in a 4*!

My husband and I very much enjoyed our romantic weekend in this beautifully restored grand 18th century building that hugs Besançon Citadelle. There are unique architectural and decorative touches everywhere, and the service is excellent without being at all snooty. Our room had a view over the garden and rolling hills in the distance. We did the spa, which was tastefully appointed but a bit overpriced for a (large) hot tub and a steam room at 35 euros per person. The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of fine local products served in an exquisite dining room. Parking is 15 euros/day, but probably recommended as there was no free parking nearby. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed for dinner since it was the off season. Altogether a lovely experience that I heartily recommend.
