"Named after the archaeological ruins at Empúries, this restaurant has declared its strong commitment to the gastronomy of the Alt Empordà by extolling the virtues of the sea and mountains that define the region.Located within the walls of the hotel of the same name, this eatery run by the same family since 1965 now has twins Màrius and Joan Jordà (the fourth generation) at the helm in the kitchen. In the impeccable dining room, they serve updated traditional cuisine that is not shy of creativity and which accentuates the flavours of the Alt Empordà through its use of locally sourced ingredients (fruit and vegetables from Torroella de Montgrí, fish from Port de la Selva and Roses, etc). The cuisine here is centred on two meticulous tasting menus (one shorter option called Mar y Montaña and a longer version called Universo Local), both with a wine pairing option." - Michelin Inspector

Our stay was wonderful! This hotel and restaurants owned by a family was just perfect. It is so nice to be in a place where you have real interactions as opposed to standard hotel brands.. and we had dinner at bistro 1965, one of the best dinner I had for the price... Too bad it's so far from home but we'll be back!

Lunch in the bistrot was delicious: a vegetable tart with a light shortbread base, garnished with anchovies; the freshest sea bass fillets on confit potatoes; and a chocolate cream with red fruit coulis and sorbet. The service was attentive and friendly.

We enjoyed the perfect ending to our day yesterday by dining at the Michelin starred restaurant, Emporium in Castello D’Empuries. Such a wonderful treat. Loved the whole experience. The peaceful ambiance of the dining room, the warmth of the welcome and the detailed explanation of each course. The food was exquisite! Absolutely delicious and unique … and the wines accompanying each course were spectacular. A truly wonderful evening.

Probably one of the best discoveries over the past thee years. This restaurant is family owned and delivers a incredibly creative and tasty food based on local products. The service is great and not too formal. The twin sons, Joan and Marius are alternatively Chef and Somelier and both amazing! On top of that wine list is incredible…. Long story short, it is a must try and I will try again soon!

297€ for a tasting menu for two people with humiliating treatment by the head- waiter (it's a family business) and a mouldy dessert is something I would like to warn potential future customers of this restaurant against. As soon as we arrived, the waiter asked us where we were from and when we told him we were from Barcelona, he reminded us of his grandfather's words that there was nothing worse than being from Barcelona or Real Madrid. That's for starters. He then regaled us with a series of insults with which the people of that area refer to those from my city. As he served us and removed our plates, he made tactless jokes about how we left them. Halfway through the meal, the other two waiters disappeared, leaving only the one serving us for three tables, one of them a family table, so the wait between courses became longer and longer. We asked him for the bill, but he was talking to the family table and didn't bring it to us until they had finished and he had accompanied them to the door (more than half an hour after we had asked him for it). Finally, he even had the audacity to make one last joke: as we had been the last ones, we would have to do the dishes. To this mistreatment, we must add the poor state of one of the desserts (brioix de flor de taronger amb mozzarella de l'Empordà i mel de les alberes) which tasted strongly of mould. Anyway, if it hadn't been for the fact that they had my credit card number, we would have got up after the first insult, but in order not to run the risk of paying without having eaten, we put up with it. I hope that at the next Michelin appointment they will withdraw the undeserved star they awarded it, and above all I hope that no one else will be tempted to book at this place.

Very friendly and professional staff. The hotel rooms are comfortable and spacious. Street side can be a little bit noisy but hey who travels without ear plugs. It didn't bother me anyway nor the 6 other persons with whom I was travelling. But the food of the restaurant in evening and breakfast is fabulous. The service is more than excellent. The location is perfect if you want to visit the several nature reserves, mountains and even the beach is only 5 minutes away. If you don't like a hotel by the beach with noisy bars and tourists but prefer a hotel in an medieval village but close by the sea, mountains and nature reserves, this is the place to be. Staff is very friendly speaks different languages and very helpfull with all kind of information.||Great Catalan experience!!!!

Probably one of the most interesting tasting menu’s in Catalonia. Flavors often intense. Cooking is well executed and with the best ingredients. Wine list is extensive and offers good value. Look for the older vintages and leave some for me.

The hotel itself is very average and even overpriced with no amenities except for WIFI and a small TV with minimal channel selection. Bed was fine and room was spacious. Can also be quite noisy located on a busy main road. But the saving grace was the gournet dinner and fantastic breakfast served with half-board (MAP) room. The meal service and food was excellent in a very nice restaurant attached to the hotel. Highly recommended for this experience alone, including an excellent and generous breakfast in Spanish terms (lots of fruit, cold cuts, cheese, breads/croissant, youghurt, juice, etc.)||||A good place to stop while touring the Costa Brava.
