Amsterdam's Hotels Won't Waste Your Time

"Housed in a renovated office building found in the heart of Amsterdam’s city center and theater district, Hotel V Nesplein is a funky boutique hotel within walking distance of most of the major attractions. The hotel’s restaurant and bar is a popular local hangout in itself, and often features live music on its small stage. Decorated with velvet stage curtains, stage lights, and vintage black and white show posters, the space pays tribute to the neighborhood’s theatrical background." - Mark Fedeli

"While the location isn’t everything at Hotel V Nesplein, it is one of the hotel’s great strengths. Housed in a renovated office building found in the heart of Amsterdam’s city center and theater district, this funky boutique hotel lies within walking distance of most of the major attractions. The hotel’s restaurant and bar, the Lobby, is a popular local hangout in itself — decorated with velvet stage curtains, stage lights, and vintage black and white show posters, the space pays tribute to the neighborhood’s theatrical background. Upstairs, the loft-style rooms are designed in a quirky mid-century-meets-industrial style that features vintage furniture, luxurious dark wood floors, faded oriental rugs, and gold wallpaper." - Tablet Hotels

I had a truly wonderful stay at this hotel. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed and well taken care of. The facilities are clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully maintained, making the whole experience relaxing and enjoyable. What really stood out, however, was the staff. They were consistently warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. Every interaction—from check-in to dining to housekeeping—was marked by professionalism paired with a personal touch. It’s rare to find a team so dedicated to ensuring guests feel at home, and I deeply appreciated it. I will definitely return on my next trip and highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for not just a great place to stay, but also an atmosphere where you are truly cared for.

Google
Beautiful hotel, beautiful room, perfect location, and wonderful people. This hotel was an absolute delight and went above and beyond to accommodate us on every level. They even created a whole breakfast dish just for me when I told them I had allergies which I enjoyed and looked forward to every morning. What a lovely place. We were charmed and delighted with our stay and will definitely return.

Google
Location location location. Very convenient to all of downtown Amsterdam, and with Rokin station 3 minute walk away you can easily get to the airport in less than 30 minutes and to RAI CONGRESS center in less than 15’. Environment and rooms a bit too dark for me and too industrial. Good size room. No air conditioning - nothing that you can control anyway, and late September the room was getting too warm. They do have a floor fan in the room and one window could tilt a bit. Everyone wa polite. Room service (dinner) was fast and the glass of wine was more than a glass… It was appreciated. The Lobby - the restaurant on ground floor was quite good. Breakfast is decent - I would go for à la carte and slip prepaying. The coffee at The Lobby was too bitter. A Nespresso type machine with good coffee in the room. There are numerous cafes and restaurants within 5 minutes walk, so one has many options. Due to its location, it can be noisy outside and if you like quiet, this may not be the place to sleep, especially Friday/Saturday. I would come back for business.

Google
Well run hotel in the perfect central but quieter location. Beds very comfortable and staff very friendly / helpful. Food in the hotel (dinner) is recommended. Two down side for me - virtually no hanging space in a large room and the checkout experience was a shambles (maybe they just cocked mine up).

Google
Nice boutique hotel in a very walkable location. The rooms were very trendy and I enjoyed the tower fan they had in the room. Only issue was no thermostat to control the AC, which isn't an issue for some people. Very nice staff, and can get a small discount if you arrive via train which we did

Google
Really great stay. Quiet, spacious, and super good amenities. I'll be emailing them to ask what bedding they use since it is so comfortable! Staff is also very friendly and helpful. The only thing I noticed was how dark the rooms were. It could use some better and brighter lighting options.

Google
Overall impression is good. Stylish place with good restaurant downstairs. Rooms are spacious even though the disign of the wardrobe is a bit strange. Pleasant staff at the reception. Nice central location, within walking distance to Central station and main attractions. The only thing that we didn’t like was the noise from the street. We could hear everything, every person walking, every transport passing by.

Google
Absolutely charming hotel right in the heart of Amsterdam! While the address might sound a bit touristy or bustling, it’s actually tucked away on a peaceful side street. The rooms are spacious and very nice furnished, and the beds are pure heaven – but what really sets this place apart is the outstanding service. During our trip, a phone was unfortunately stolen, and the staff was all in to help us – not just with practical matters, but also with kindness and emotional support (Stroopwaffles! ❤️). Our stay was part of a birthday celebration, and I had arranged flowers through the hotel in advance. When we arrived, we were greeted not only with a stunning bouquet, but also a thoughtful culinary treat and a handwritten card. Couldn’t recommend this hotel more – we’ll happily be back!

Yelp
We've been coming to Amsterdam regularly for almost 20 years now, and have stayed at many hotels. For the last few years, we have only stayed at the Hotel V Nesplein!   First, the location. It simply could not be more perfect. A one minute walk from Dam Square, yet tucked away on a lovely side street away from the mayhem.   The vibe: As soon as you walk in, you know that you are in a unique environment. The décor strikes a lovely balance between hip and elegant (without being kitsch). Each member of the front desk staff is warm, genuinely concerned for your comfort, and always professional. If you show up at 8am, they will actually apologize if your room is not ready yet, and offer you a coffee while you wait.   The rooms: The soft hallway lighting helps transport you to a different state as you make your way towards your room. Because of the interesting shape of the building, every room is different, and they are all tastefully decorated. The housekeeping is ever present when needed, and never in your way.   The restaurant: In the hotel lobby there is a lovely restaurant called "The Lobby." We have enjoyed many hours in the cozy corners of this gem in the heart of Amsterdam. The staff are fabulous and always make us feel special.  Can't wait till the next time!

Yelp
Happily Recommend this hotel. Stylish. Great location. Good service. Nice features and amenities in room. Stylish and unique design features. Loved our larger than normal room. It was a bit noisy at night from street. Also, the room did get warm and it was Hard to control temp. Great espresso & teas in room. Bonus free earth water in room. Lots of plusses. I'd like to give five stars, but will note it was very disappointing we could not get a reservation in hotel for brunch and the place they sent us to instead was not a good replacement at all. Instead of the hotel's yummy inventive menu and great vibe, the other place they sent us to was sterile with a terribly limited and boring menu. It made no sense that they sent us blocks away to this other place.

Yelp
The worst. Couldn't travel because of Covid-19 and this is the only hotel out our our 6 that will not refund us. Terrible times for all of us, but this terrible customer service and taking advantage of desperate people.

Yelp
We had a great time st this hotel. Perfect spot for good food and a central location. A little hard to find the name of the hotel because it was tucked in an alley. We didn't have time to try the restaurant inside. But the food smelled delicious. We would stay here again.

Yelp
Very disappointed with this hotel. Reviews looked good and pics looked very stylish, but they were both far from the truth. To be very fair, the staff overall were very nice. The restaurant is on point, and the wait service was terrific. But the rooms...oh, the rooms! What a major letdown. I booked a king suite for my wife and I (we're early 30's). $450+ per night, and we're expecting 4.5-5 star quality. Instead, we end up with ratty old "vintage" furniture and decor, scratchy sheets and useless pillows. Did I mention the "king" suite doesn't come with a king bed? Nope, you'll get the standard 2 twin-ish mattresses that are sort-of-the-same-size...but just different enough to give you that nice hump in the middle. Plus, if you book here you can expect the added benefit of "that old and moldy smell" in the room, as well as "non working power outlets right in the places you need em most". But let's not forget the "slower than dial-up" Wi-Fi you'll be treated to, and the best part of all... No temperature control in your own room!!! You heard that right, when it's 80 degrees outside (27 degrees C), you'll be sweating away in your overpriced room because this hotel sets its temperature for the whole building at whatever temp they feel like. You'll have to sleep in your scratchy sheets and janky pillow while you melt away overnight, breathing in the stank perfume of your moldy old room. Totally not worth $1500 for a 3 night stay. Stay somewhere else and stop in one night for dinner. That's about all this place is good for.

Yelp
The hotel room was incredibly spacious. I don't think I've ever had as much room in any hotel before, it was definitely very appreciated. Everything was clean and the complementary drinks were a nice touch. The room was clean, and of the 3 hotels I stayed in for my euro trip, this one had the most comfortable bed by far. So much so that my friend and I ended up waking up way too late to go out to the bars. The breakfast food was really good and the portions generous. They're also very accommodating if you want a later checkout, without necessarily charging you. Finally the staff was incredibly friendly and warm. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Length of Stay - 3 Days Service/Reception- I had emailed the hotel before arrival requesting early check in. When we arrived, our room was ready. Throughout the stay, the front desk was great and very informative. I would like to recognize Rogier who was at the front desk during the day. When we arrived, he had our room and room keys ready to go. He gave great suggestions and recommendations throughout our stay. He certainly made our stay in Amsterdam better with all his tips and suggestions. Everyone at the hotel was helpful and all spoke fluent English. Rooms-We had a nice room (305) which was large enough. The room overlooked a side street. Our window looked into the office building across the street so really not much of a view. Sleep quality was fine. Bed was nice and there was not much noise inside or outside the hotel. The room has a Nespresso machine and minibar. Bathrobes and slippers too. Wifi- Free and Fast. Location-It is in the red light district, but not on a busy street so it is quiet. Tram 24 stops a few blocks away so you can get anywhere. You can also walk most everywhere. I thought the location was ideal. Breakfast - Included breakfast was great. It is a la carte and you can order whatever you like from the restaurant. I would recommend this. What could be done better - Would be nice if they had USB outlets in the room. I think all hotels should have these. I would stay here again!

Yelp
Choose this hotel as it was centrally located and had a large suite for 4 people. Very happy. Was clean, huge, modern and very comfortable. Staff was overly nice and friendly. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Great value for money. Smack in the canal district of Amsterdam for about 140 Euros. Rooms are simple, but have all the basics. Staff is friendly and helpful. One desk clerk named Marika was especially great. She brought me an iron and ironing board, then minutes later brought batteries for the TV remote, then directed me to a nearby ATM shortly after that. The restaurant is excellent. I had room service one night and was very impressed. Breakfast was delicious. Great coffee. My only very small complaint is that the maximum volume on the TV was still really quiet. I couldn't hear it over my chewing during dinner. There was nothing crunchy on the plate. I would have asked Marika back to fix it but I didn't want her to think I was a creep.

Yelp
The hotel I stay at sets the mood for the trip and the moment I walked into the lobby, I knew I had made the right choice. I had considered more expensive options that were on the water/had balconies, but Nesplein seemed perfect. It turned out to be quite ideal location-wise. The street itself is pretty, quaint, and quiet. Then you turn a corner and you're in the middle of everything. We never took public transport or cabs because everything was within walking distance. Granted some of our walks were 45+ minutes each way, but walking everywhere is so worth it. Check in was effortless. We dropped our luggage off in the spacious room (which was the simplest/cheapest option). Minus an unidentifiable stain on the duvet cover (which was changed/cleaned after our second night), the room was spotless. The bathroom was luxurious. The beds were so comfortable. After dropping everything off, we headed downstairs and sat at the back of the restaurant in the little library area and had delicious, masterfully crafted cocktails (get the dry jasmine martini!) and shared a heavenly flammkuchen. We ate breakfast at the restaurant the next morning which was satisfying. We made a few more trips for drinks and snacks throughout our 4 night stay, including room service one night, cocktails included. Mistakenly, we thought check out was at noon, so we began to panic when we double checked and realized we had to be out of the room in 20 minutes. Our bags were unpacked, so I knew it wasn't remotely possible. I called the front desk, worried we'd be charged for another night, but the concierge, without missing a beat, said that noon checkout was not a problem. Check out was just as easy as check in, minus the reveal of the restaurant bill. We left our bags and spent the few hours we had left in coffee shops, eating fries. Waiting to leave for the airport, two ubers were unable to reach us. I asked the concierge if there was a cab company that could send someone immediately. She told me it would be at the hotel in 5 minutes. After some time passed, she called again to double check that the car was coming. It arrived a minute later. I cannot stress enough how lovely this hotel is. The aesthetic of the interior design is so much fun, and the bar/restaurant is worth multiple trips, but the real stand out was the staff. Never have I felt so welcomed and comfortable in a foreign city. Thank you, Nesplein for a wonderful time!

Yelp
Near the center of the city on a quiet street. GREAT restaurant in the hotel. Creative offerings and presented with care. We were taken to the wrong Hotel V (there are 3 of them) and got an upgrade at Nesplein-- WOW! We could roller skate around this room--beautifully appointed with room to spare--we only wished we had friends to visit and have tea with us in this great room! Would totally return to this hotel and if we couldn't get a room, we'd definitely go back to "The Lobby" restaurant!

Yelp
Really good breakfast and laid back drink spot tucked away in an alley. Decor is upscale but not snobby. Service top notch, good magazines and papers to read (English and Dutch, bedankt). My secret spot for delicious short stack of pancakes when missing USA.

Yelp
NO WAY! This hotel could not have been less helpful. We made reservations for my family of five months in advance. After an overnight flight we arrive and Jamie at the front desk told us that they had cancelled our reservations. Then they said they would help to find a different hotel. You know what Jamie did? He showed me Hotel.com Are you kidding? I don't speak Dutch, I am exhausted, in a new city and he shows me Hotel.com. Big frigging help. Jamie finally did get us a reservation at a sister hotel and you might think he could have paid for a taxi across town, but nope...we were on our own. This hotel took zero responsibility for a problem that I believe was at least half theirs. Amsterdam has tons of hotels, find a different one.

Yelp
Stayed here for 3 nights, amazing location , great food, always busy with locals which is always a good sign. Staff were lovely and friendly , would return, room clean and practical.

Holiday P.

Yelp
This beautiful hotel is located in the heart of the city. The lobby, rooms and restaurant/bar are tastefully decorated and comfortable. I'm giving it four stars rather than five because I thought the service at the front desk and in the restaurant were less than stellar. That said, I would still recommend the hotel.

J S.

Yelp
Lovely new hotel! Great staff, nicely appointed rooms. Very centrally located on a quiet side street.

Yelp
Hotel V Nesplein is a contemporary 4-star boutique hotel in the center of Amsterdam, near Dam Square. A great feature of the hotel is "The Lobby", a restaurant and bar for guests and locals, a funky gastropub in Amsterdam style. Part of the "Hotel V" family, an independent chain of trendy designer hotels.

Tony B.

Yelp
An amazing hotel central location and really great food and staff at the downstairs restaurant which does a killer breakfast. The big shower head and amazing water pressure made this a great way to wake up after the tiny bathrooms of Italy. The only negative was the keycard kept blanking and constantly needed a reset. Other than that minor blip this is the perfect spot to stay. A1 experience!

Pat R.

Yelp
I love this hotel!!! It's off the beaten path (sort of). Very sophisticated. Staff was lovely, rooms are huge and beautifully appointed.
