"How did it strike you on arrival? The hotel is positioned on a hill overlooking south Austin's hilly terrain. The rather typical-looking stucco exterior belies a European palazzo-inspired courtyard on the building's backside. Nice. What’s the crowd like? This hotel feels worlds away from downtown-hipster Austin: Empty-nesters carefully study the European wine list in the Northern Italian-inspired restaurant, while business travelers go for nightcaps in the billiards parlor or cigars on the courtyard. The good stuff: Tell us about your room.Like the rest of the hotel, the rooms are designed to mimic an Italian villa. Tiled floors, rich woods, and a library of books create a residential feel. Request a room on a higher floor, which have a small Juliette balcony and views all the way to downtown. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?The mattress is firm and the sheets are comfortable. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase?Suites have kitchenettes and, no matter what room type you book, you'll get a complimentary bottle of wine during your stay. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word?Free and very fast. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.The pool area is chiseled into natural limestone and has sweeping views of the Austin hillside. The setting is serene with rows Cypress trees, lounge chairs, and curtained cabanas, which can be booked both by guests and by locals through ResortPass day passes. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay?Covered in strings of lights, the central walled courtyard distinguishes this hotel stay from the rest of the pack. Bottom line: worth it, and why?The European influence and ornate furnishings aren't for everyone." - Allison Bagley
