Had a Collette Vacations tour group dinner here, one of the few places that can host 42 people in Lucerne.
Wife and I sat in the middle of one of several large tables in an elegant setting, with white table cloths, white napkins, and shiny tableware.
Had our choice of beer, wine, juice or soda. Took apple juice, which I instantly regretted after the waiter poured a 1 ounce portion into a wine glass, not to sip, but to drink.
The bouilion with vegetable strips came in a small bowl, and was hearty, if a bit insubstantial in number of vegetables. Other choice was celery salad with sprouts, which looked like one of those salads with shredded vegetable strips.
The chicken breast could have used more mushroom sauce, as it was very dry, and lacked taste, but was a generous portion of around 7 ounces. Came with two scoops of yellow poienta and broccoli, to give it color, although I thought mashed potatoes or rice would go better with the fake grill marks on the chicken breast.
The fried fillets of trout was a sample size of no more than 2,5 ounces of what was salmon, with the skin left on for looks. The leek vegetables tasted yummy like onions, and potato gnocchi was the only thing filling on the plate, and well cooked and presented. Any McDonalds nearby to stop afterwards?
The carmel flan with cream and fruit varnish were tiny but delicious, especially with the chocolate spellings of "Happy Birthday" to yours truly.
The tour operator ordered a bottle of apple juice for me to celebrate the big night, and it went by mistake to Jim, who was to celebrate his birthday the following day, and consumed it nevertheless quickly on the spot, before anyone realized the mistake!
