House Of Bread - Review - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"House Of Bread is a Persian bakery on Westwood Blvd. with an incredible selection of house-baked breads. Their regular sourdough is among the best in town, and we have nightly dreams about their sesame loaf. If you’re looking for something more traditional, their sangak is also very good. They’re open daily (except Mondays) until 3pm, but usually sell out by around 11am, so call early and they’ll hold your order for you. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Google
Excellent place for all bakery products. This always a queue, soliciting the lovely Brazil. I loved the big Sangki bread and the Banana Bread. The hummus and yoghurt dip, what's awesome? It's her secret recipe for over the years. I heard conversations where the third generation had come to buy from the bakery. It is an excellent place to have your morning breakfast and start the day with an excellent taste combined with health. Reasonable prices great value for money

Google
Small take out bakery, but it is so good. The ham and cheese croissant is the best! Chocolate croissant also super good. We wanted to try a couple of different flavors, but sold out. Banana bread is so good, wish I bought the loaf instead of just two slices.

I’m in LA for a few months for work, and on my walk to work, I love stopping here and picking up a delicious croissant. I’ve had the almond, cheese, ham & cheese, and plain croissant. Every single one of them is delicious! I can’t wait to try the chocolate croissant. I gobbled down the ham and cheese too quickly to snap a photo but ended up making a heart shape out of the wrapper. 🥐 The banana bread is also delicious!

Google
Stopped by House of Bread in Westwood, a small but neat little bakery owned by a Persian woman. Tried their country sourdough, and overall, it was a good loaf. The crust had a nice crunch, and the aroma was spot on—earthy and inviting. The crumb, however, was a bit denser than expected, lacking the usual airy texture, and it leaned more on the chewy side. Still, the flavor was enjoyable, and it’s clear they use quality ingredients. One suggestion for the owner: consider adding a bread slicer. It would make it much more convenient for customers who prefer pre-sliced loaves

Google
Dear Lord! One of the best ham and cheese croissants I’ve had in a really long time. So flaky and flavorful. Te ham and cheese just took it to the next level. Service was efficient. No ambiance , it’s a to go spot.

Google
I am a French American who is constantly looking for a decent (usually always overpriced) croissant in cities I visit in the states. The croissant here is top (and $3.50 not $5🥹💀) god bless you house of bread. Thank you!! It’s a little dense but great taste and flakiness. All I was missing was a glass of milk (next time :))

Google
Best sangak on the Westside, and probably in all of LA. Also excellent French style white and whole wheat breads and croissants. Everything freshly made each day, often still hot from the oven. Small family business.

Google
Walked past this place after getting my smog check at A1, and ended up buying a cheese croissant, olive boule, and a sangak—a delicious iranian flatbread that has a chewy mochi-like texture and it peppered with sesame seeds. The croissant and sangak were amazing, I can only imagine how good the loaf is. You can see their bread mixers turning in the back! I've looked for good bread at farmers markets and haven't been satisfied. This is my new forever spot. Unbelievably good. I'm so happy I found it!

Yelp
Just tried this bakery for the first time. Croissants were absolutely delicious. They were perfectly crispy, fresh, and full of flavor. It's hard to find this level of quality in the USA--they taste just like they're from Europe. Definitely coming back for more!
google avatar

Yelp
We came here last week, but everything was sold out by noon. Fortunately this week, we managed to get a ham and cheese croissant. I now understand why everything was sold out last week! The croissant was perfectly flaky, and there were generous portions of both the cheese and the ham. Overall, I was quite satisfied and will definitely go back to try other items.

Yelp
I work upstairs, so I often pop in here for their cinnamon bread--it's incredible! Their dips are excellent, too, especially the yogurt dip; it's so delicious! You can tell they're doing something right because every morning, a line of people is waiting to get their food. The service is quick, and the chicken salad dip is also a 10/10.

Yelp
BEST CROISSANTS I usually hate plain croissants but this is just so buttery, mochi-like in the middle, flakey and crispy on the outside perfection! I went at 12pm Sun and there was a small line. I called ahead to make sure I would get a croissant. Sangak is awesome youll love it if you like sesame seeds or that cracker brand okmok. It has mochi like spots and crunchy spots. I wish I got the dip or butter but even without it was heavenly! Definitely the House of Bread is a must visit.
google avatar

Crystal K.

Yelp
I had THE BEST ham and cheese croissant. The flakiness of the croissant was divine and the seasoning on and inside was so delicious. I also grabbed a piece of banana bread which was also on par. I'll be back since I'm now working down the street:)

Yelp
Everything is amazing, this is the only place around the area where you can buy real bread, loafs, baguettes. It's a rare find. I am not a big fan of flat bread in general but they are famous for their flat bread. Pastries are also amazing! Their home made feta cheese and jams are the best. I am addicted. They are extremely friendly, love the owners. Very cute place and only does window service which makes it very fast. Most of the time there is a line but for a reason. I would highly recommend. I will recommend to go earlier because they can sell out the good stuff fast.

Yelp
A friend recommended I order the special sangak bread, and it was the best! When you ask for the special, it is made with extra seeds. I had to come back about a half hour after I ordered it so they could make it fresh, but it was so worth the wait! The bread is so addictive with its crunchy exterior and soft interior, I couldn't stop eating it right out of the bag on my way home. This is GOOD bread. The woman at the front who took my order was also very kind and she remembered me so well when I came back later to pick up my bread, which was really sweet. You order your food upfront and there is no seating so it's a to-go kind of bakery. It's located around many other Persian shops and restaurants so it fits right in with the surroundings. I almost wanted to stop for Persian ice cream a few doors down, but I controlled myself!

Yelp
This is a wonderful bakery in Westwood. The bread is made fresh and the pastries are delicious. They also have a delicious flat bread which I love.

Yelp
Tasty, High quality bread and croissants, employees are very nice . You would love it too!
google avatar

Neil S.

Yelp
The baguette was top notch , 5 stars but unfortunately as I went there to get sangak(the sangak hanging in the window, Ala Iran style was the giveaway) was terrible. Imo it had been sitting out for hours . They have this rack where they put the fresh bread (makes sense, while it's hot and steaming ) but then you should wrap It up and keep it fresh. Worst part is it had potential as the flour combo seemed right as well as the thickness but it was just rough to chew as it was all dried up.

Yelp
I was so happy to finally land one of the items on their secret menu! Not listed on their printed menu on the door are limited items such as almond croissants and cinnamon buns, which are made in larger batches on weekends but also tend to run out earlier those mornings too. Their plain croissant is still the undisputed best in the neighborhood, but their almond croissant is amazing for anyone who wants a sweeter option that adds delicious almond paste but keeps the crispy exterior. The service is always friendly the music lively too!

Mark W.

Yelp
Love the bread here, only have had the baguettes, loaves and sagnak. All of which are great and a hit at home. Very friendly staff. Would love a tip on whether there are recipes that incoporate sagnak.
google avatar

Tim S.

Yelp
Beyond amazing. Go! Simply incredible. Why do I need to say more??? This is ridiculous- go! Try!
google avatar

Sophie A.

Yelp
Wow the sangak is AMAZING! You can't go too late or they'll sell out. The pain au chocolat was perfectly crunchy and had awesome layers. All the bread came out so warm and I would definitely come back and try more. Very convenient to just have a "window" at the front!

Larry D.

Yelp
Nothing special here. The baguette is too chewy, thick and hard, real French baguette is supposed to be lighter and crispy. Croissants not flaky and not authentic. Sangak is very average, better can be found at Sabzee in Encino. Service, as mentioned in many reviews, is totally absent, sloppy and very slow. They forbid anyone from entering and create a line outside instead so that passers by think there is a huge demand for the bread which is a clever marketing plan but very inconsiderate of their customers and creates zero ambiance. When you place your order across the square table the lady walks allll the way to the back of the store to bring your breads one by one. Their logistics simply do not make sense.
google avatar

Joey G.

Yelp
Maybe the best sourdough in all of LA! Their sourdough is very moist and springy. Their sourdough boules have a nice crust and the sour flavor is just right. I appreciate that they make demi baguettes. Their baguettes have a good crunch. Their sangak flatbread is a great value and it can easily feed 3 people. Their croissants could admittedly use some work in terms of lamination. However, all of their other breads are absolutely excellent. The staff here is friendly and the bakery smells wonderful. Everything is to go at the moment. I do wish that I could eat inside. They sell out rather quickly so be sure to get up early. There is metered street parking. It's probably 4.5 stars but I'll round up because their bread is SO good.

Yelp
I live in LA. Women in LA, especially women like me married to the industry don't eat bread for the obvious carb red carpet repercussions (No, not a slap just a turning of the heads for excessive puffiness and an un-spanks ability to conceal a muffin top = bad spouse press.). However, we are allowed by our/a high-end "nutritionist/personal trainer" to waft the virtual non-fat fumes as a warm, leavened basket of calories passes by our watercress, no-oil, unsatisfying salad/cud served up on valuable china, in a high-end-super-healthy resto recommended by again the aforementioned food/fitness guru. All is well unless one succumbs to those home and hearth kindling fumes, steals a sourdough roll, a pat of butter, stashes it in her Gucci bag, devours it in the hopefully TMZ free lady's room stall. ENOUGH! I walked 2.6-miles round trip to House of Bread strictly for a nearly 3-foot portion of sangak, the national bread of Iran, a cross between naan and injera. YES! It's bread as it should be, to be eaten, warm, savored, enjoyed! House of Bread is a woman owned business with a keen-eyed culled menu http://www.houseofbreadla.com/. Please note prices on this link are now a mere $0.50 higher per item than stated there, well worth it! ALL Covid precautions still in place here. Order at the the table outside the entrance. Use a card, tip generously. Your order is in hand within moments. Metered parking on Westwood Boulevard. Or if you're a Hollywood wife, walk, no jog if you spy your trainer's Tesla following you, build your alibi as you pound the pavement. 10% discount with Yelp check-in. Cool. I didn't use it, just left a tip...

Yelp
Quality is very good, the French baguettes are the winner.Croissants are very delicious especially when they come out of the oven. Having said that, the service is very poor. Not enough helpers , so if you are there early mornings especially Saturday or Sunday good luck. Calling the place is also needs to be improved big time .
google avatar

Zuleima M.

Yelp
The croissant here is amazing! Everything is so fresh and the service is amazing. Just making the line you get all the great smells of the amazing baking
google avatar

Kate H.

Yelp
Their sourdough and croissants are delightful! Each bite is a taste of heaven, and the staff is friendly. A must-visit for any bakery lover!"

Tee L.

Yelp
The major downside of the bakery is how they handle the line. To simply pick up bread it takes 20-25 minutes if there is a line. This isn't because of the long line but because each customer waits on average, 5 minutes for their bread. Even with only 3 people in front of you, it can take 15 to 20 minutes. It's the equivalent to if you are ordering food and waiting for it to be made. This line should move quick because people are just picking up bread and pastries. The problem is that they are not ready in the morning and are still baking bread. A bakery should be running at least an hour or two ahead of time to be ready. So if you have the time, it's a nice spot though, but it could be run more efficiently. It is not a French bakery so the baguettes can't compare to authentic baguettes. They are too thick. The croissants are a bit too heavy. But for fresh bread it does the job, especially when they are warm. Very good rolls but they only make these sometimes or are only available at certain hours. Most people come for the sangak.

Marmar K.

Yelp
This place is great for bread lovers . They have delicious sourdough and freshly made baguettes. But their Persian bread "sangak "is the best.

Yelp
Cute little shop to get baked goods in the Westwood area. I got a croissant and was delighted to find that they gave me a little mini croissant to go with it! It was super flaky on the outside and a bit doughier in the middle than other croissants I've had. Delicious nonetheless and I'll definitely come back! The owner was super friendly as well, which is always a plus!

Yelp
Excellent sourdough bread bakes fresh every day. They also have other amazing breads, and their homemade jam is delightful!!
google avatar

Songyi W.

Yelp
House of Bread has the best flat bread - soft & chewy lighted salted bread topped with black and white sesame. I don't think I've ever really had this kind of flat bread, but it is so good that I could eat the whole one by myself (a good snack at all times)... I also think the price of $4 is more than reasonable. I've also tried their sourdough loaf which has a crunchy crust and airy inside. The croissant & pain au chocolat were pretty good as well, but the dough seemed a little more dense and less fluffy than the best ones I've had.
google avatar

Yolanda A.

Yelp
They have the best, most tastiest bread. Its crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. It's so good that if one doesn't get there by 10 AM on the weekends, one is out of luck. They sell out pretty quickly. They also have delicious, homemade humus. It's very clean, simple shop. I highly recommend it.

Glyol P.

Yelp
They have the best French sourdough and baguette bread plus they have amazing berry jams. All organized c with less Sufer yet so delicious!! I use their bread to my sandwiches and with butter and jam with my cappuccino as I did it when I visit Paris! Enjoy

Mary M.

Yelp
The bread is great ! The 3 star is for the lady at the front ... she's very unfriendly. She can be rude ... at the beginning I thought she might had a bad day or something... but then every time I went there , she was not friendly...
google avatar

Yelp
What a gem of a place. So glad I found it. Amazing bread and service to match it. Will definitely be on my list from now on
google avatar

Yelp
Some of the greatest challah bread ever and impeccable service! They made our bread to order and called to make sure we could pickup before they closed.
google avatar

Don Diego D.

Yelp
This is literally one of the best bakeries in all of LA. Everything is fresh and mostly hot out of the oven. Their croissants are out of this world....like I'm not kidding ...try the ham and cheese if you can't decide. Sangak is a special Persian bread they make. Once you try it you will be hooked.

Linda F.

Yelp
Found them online. Needed fresh baked sourdough dough bread made with water,Sakarya d flour. They bake it! Drove there. Bought a baguette. Loved it. Went back two days later and bought the large loaf. Delicious! Will definitely continue to shop there. Could not have been nicer also. Which I appreciated since I did have questions.
google avatar

Yelp
They're new, and they're awesome. HoB has so much to offer in their clean and bright storefront - which also houses their big beautiful oven. Several different breads - challah, sangak (Iranian flatbread), croissants (plain, chocolate or super cute mini), country sourdough, whole grain sourdough baton, banana bread.. and more. I love the sangak - goes perfectly with everything, especially hummous. The sangak is huge and fun and of course, delicious. In their fridge, you'll see things like Saffron Rice Pudding. Amazing. That you can see the breads being made in the background shows you how fresh it is. Reminds me of seeing a bagel factory like the old H & H in Manhattan, or even Brooklyn Bagel (on the East Side of L.A.). The front staff (the owners) are so nice and helpful. ASK if you have any questions. They are so happy to fill you in. I've been here twice now, and really love the whole experience at HoB. There are so many things to try, it'll be fun to thoroughly go through their offerings. The Porridge caught my eye last time - I will definitely check that out soon. Great place, a nice fit for Westwood Blvd. So fresh, delicious and friendly .

Yelp
I walked by house of bread last weekend but they didn't have a few items since it was late in the day (totally on me for coming by later), so I decided to come back this weekend but earlier to try a few items. I went at 10 on a Saturday and it took a moment for anyone to notice me, but the man in the back was so friendly and waived and said hello! Once someone came to the door I asked the gal which pastries were the most popular so I could get a few and she said all of them (which I'm sure is true, but was overwhelming as a new customer trying to select something). I decided on a ham and cheese croissant and asked for her recommendation between a chocolate croissant and banana bread as I love to hear what the owners or staff like when I try new places and she said "both", so I took a moment to decide. Someone came in line behind me and the gal rushed me to select an item and said let her know and pointed to the new customer which made me feel rushed in the middle of an order, so I told her just the one item. She asked my friend if she wanted anything but we both felt pushed so we just got the one, despite wanting to try a few things from all the great reviews. The one croissant we got was perfectly warm, filled with lots of ham and cheese, and a good size! I wish we were given more time to order as we had just asked a single question and were in the process of deciding when we were abruptly rushed through the ordering process because of the one customer who had just started waiting. It felt like our business wasn't as important which is understandable as this is a family business and I know people come from the community and everyone has places to be, but it's frustrating to want to support and try a new place and to not feel welcome.

Aimee N.

Yelp
Very small bakery owned in Westwood. Sells out fast. Fresh bread every day. By noon selection is limited. Definitely worth the price. Good addition.
google avatar

Hossein J.

Yelp
Absolutely the best Sangak bread in all of LA and really California or anywhere else I have tried. The tastes great weather you like it with a lot of seeds or without. Driving 15 -20 minutes in the morning to get some fresh bread for breakfast is my favorite thing to do on the weekends. My kids love the bread too.
google avatar

Sophie ..

Yelp
OMG this bread changed my life. I passed by HoB by accident and it smelled so good and I had never heard of sangak. What I got was a warm spool of bread the size of a small child, and it was honestly the most delicious bread I think I've ever eaten. Run, don't walk, etc.
google avatar

Yelp
This is peak West Los Angeles. People wonder why i live in west LA. Sure its pricey, but i'm just 5 minutes away from a gourmet artisan bakery. You just can't get this stuff in small town america. I got an rustic loaf and a whole wheat. It was quality and yummy. You must come here if you want some solid bread.

M C.

Yelp
Good quality baked goods and nice lady owner. What is a bit frustrating is the amount of time it takes to pickup as line is slow moving. They also frequently don't have all their menu items as they run out or don't bake items until later in the day. This place could be so much better if they hired a couple of more workers and/or had more business sense. If things were smoother we would visit this place more frequently.
google avatar

Irene K.

Yelp
Got a few different types of croissants and they were delicious!!! So warm and crispy... yummy!!

greg r.

Yelp
First time visit and tried the country sourdough loaf. I would put it on the same level as Pavilions or Ralph's labeled baked bread. Not to mention half the price. La Brea Bakery bread is better and it's not even close to the taste and quality of Lodge Bread Company.
google avatar

Andrea O.

Yelp
I agree with Michelle this this place is easy to miss. It's a very tiny store located across from the pink orchid. I purchased a Sourdough baguette, banana bread and a croissant. The crust of the baguette was crunchy and the inside was soft and chewy. This would make the perfect dipping bread. I don't know what everyone else was talking about when they mentioned the samples. I wasn't offered any samples. I also don't understand why everyone was mentioning hot bread. They have a very small selection of pastries. They had banana bread, chocolate croissants, some cookies and a plain croissant. The banana bread was just ok. Nothing special. It was a little dry for my taste and not too flavorful. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give the bread a six and a half.

Jenny L.

Yelp
The quality is good but unfortunately they have no idea how to run a Business! Most of the time they run out of Sangak and sometimes they ask their customers to wait 10-15 minutes or come in the morning! It's a big store but unfortunately they blocked the entrance door and you can barley see what they have in the shelves!
google avatar

M. Imogene G.

Yelp
Amazing cheese croissant! Go early the ham and cheese ones sell out. Will come back; see you in 2 years

nadia a.

Yelp
Good for a quick breakfast pick-up. I wasn't as lucky as others as their oven was having some issues and I ended up with burnt croissants and sangak. Will give it another chance...
google avatar

Morena C.

Yelp
The best croissants and fresh breads from this local small business. The plain croissant can't be beat. The nicest people. The line will get long mid-morning. A gentleman in front of us was trying to get a ham & cheese croissant (sold out) and he said they are amazing. He settled on a cheese croissant so my son decided to try that. It was delicious!
google avatar

Scarlet L.

Yelp
Sangak. UM. WOW. I strolled by this little bakery hoping to pick up a baguette or croissant. Turns out they were all sold out by noon but they had the Sangak. Decided to try it. Im speechless. It's a flatbread but so much more. It's chewy and crispy literally at the same time. It's whole wheat but it's tender. It's savory from the sesame seeds. What in the world, I am SHOOK. Why is this first time I've heard about it?? Forget the baguettes. Forget the croissant. Get. The. Sangak. Still in the car writing this review chewing on a piece of Sangak in my mouth. Can't wait to smother it with butter at home. PS. the kind owner did give me a small baguette that was made of leftover dough & it's also very delicious.
google avatar

Mark C.

Yelp
Little unassuming store front that's easy to miss that's only churning the BEST croissants in the city. It is perfectly flakey on the out with the buttery but not overwhelming inside that is just the right texture of chewy and softness. All their other stuff are good to but this croissant is the best in LA I had to date. If you are in the mood for a croissant, come to this place.
