Pushcart Review - Mission - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"This three-seat takeout spot in the Mission is a little more expensive than a lot of the places on Clement Street, but the dim sum is good enough to merit the extra few dollars. Aside from the shrimp dumplings, get some charred lava salty egg yolk buns. Or, if you’re lazily walking around the neighborhood, get the popcorn chicken - it’s a big cup of fried chicken bites served with caramel, and it all somehow works." - Will Kamensky

The food was good but nothing special. The service was good but the seating here is sucks! There are 3 two-person tables and one of those is outside. Not a really comfortable setting when dining in. Overall experience was decent. Items purchased were pork and shrimp siu Mai, pot stickers and steamed BBQ pork buns.

We ordered from too. Good to go app for a pickup at 6:45 p.m. which was available promptly. The staff were friendly and nice. Invited us to sit down while we waited. The food itself was okay. There was mostly fried food (fried pork dumplings and egg rolls) and only two pieces of steamed dumplings. Not bad for $6. Generally, I would like to have more steamed food for dim sum. So maybe next time I will try to order directly from them and order just what I want.

i tried the sesame balls and fried meat dumplings. they’re definitely not frozen, and i like how large they are. thick, chewy glutinous rice layer and lots of delicious filling. however, they are DRIPPING with oil and not at all crispy. that means the frying oil needs to be hotter. i could only eat 1 of each because of how greasy and heavy they tasted.

Google
We loved just about everything we ordered here but I can only specifically remember (other than the pork ribs) that the buns were pork and the shumai were shrimp because otherwise we really just pointed at the items we wanted and ate without worry. We sat outside and food came out almost immediately. Definitely will be back.

Google
Came here near the end of the day. They only had fried things for us to try. The deep fried wontons were meaty. Deep fried meat dumpling filling was flavorful. The seaame balls were good. Could pass on the egg rolls and egg tart next time.

Google
Great grab and go dim sum place in the mission. Very good shumai. Nice list of boba drinks. Looks perfect next to a nice burrito place and Vietnamese spot. Much better than some other areas in the mission at the moment

Google
We ordered the shrimp dumplings and wonton soup. Shrimp dumpling wrappers were stale and the wonton soup was bland. The seating inside is extremely limited. Nice little parklet outside. Would not return.

Google
Great take out spot. Yummy food. The girl who helped us looked tired and annoyed to be alive. But the food was yummy. Did I say how much i loved their dim sum? Too small to sit in, great for a cozy night at home.

Yelp
Came here while on a bar crawl because we saw dim sum and it was close to where we were going next. I've had dim sum in Chinatown and throughout the city and this spot fell short of all other places I've been to. The food was super overpriced and honestly not that good. If it had cost as much as it did and was amazing, maybe I'd be happier about it, but it was pretty disappointing. Usually my boyfriend and I are vying for that last piece of dim sum, but this time I willingly gave up a few. They didn't have any prices listed on the menu, it felt almost like they made prices up on the spot because it was an old school register where you type in an amount vs click some pre priced and specific items. I was craving all the carbs so in addition to our dim sum we got a combo plate with rice, noodles, and chicken, it was $25 which felt like a lot for a small hole in the wall, and for the quality of the food. On a positive note they did have extra seating upstairs so our group of 6 was able to sit together no problem. There was also another large group in that area, so you can easily have a bunch of people dining together.

Yelp
Ughhh! This was asssss. I really wanted to love it. The chow mein was pretty good. The potstickers were cold and the edge was uncomfortably hard. The pork dumplings were okay, a bit flavorless. The eggrolls were soggy and cold. Also, my main frustration was my boyfriend paid $64 for our order (both were chowmein, potstickers, egg roll, and his included pork dumpling). I didn't see any pricing on the wall, and unfortunately, we didn't ask for a receipt so it might be on me for not checking prices previously. Maybe that is the appropriate pricing and I might be doing too much, but it felt very expensive! Especially with the food being cold right after ordering. The service was nice, they were very sweet.

Yelp
As much as I wanted to give a really good review because the bestie and our boys along with myself were craving dimsum. That was not the case. Thinking that a place called house of dimsum would actually have a wide selection house full of different dimsum. Nope. As my bestie put it, it was more like a shed of dimsum. And when we saw they had soup dumplings, of course we ordered. Especially when the cashier told us they were very juicy. Well we got the usual shumai and shrimp dumplings. Along with the pan fried one with chives, baked pork buns, and a few others. As well as an order wonton soup. The total was more than what we were expecting for only ordering what we did. The taste was alright. We were disappointed that the soup dumpling had no soup. It was more dough than anything. For the cost was not worth it. Kinda regretted to just have gone to China town.

Yelp
Char siu buns were pretty good. The ratio of meat:breads was perfect. The bread had a sweet sticky glaze that was a bit overpowering but other than that delish

Yelp
Came here for lunch with my family. We ordered a range of items from chow mein, to fried egg rolls, to rice with pork ribs and so much more. We thought everything was good except for the noodles and the Jian dui (fried sesame ball with red bean paste). The noodles were dry and it only came with cabbage. The jian dui had way to much red bean paste. Overall Rating: 9/10

Yelp
This place was really not that good. Our food was cold and tasted pretty stale by the time we got home, like it had been left out for a while before it got to us. The hargow and siumai tasted undercooked and made me a little sick. The only items that were okay was the steamed and baked bbq pork buns. You can get dim sum somewhere else for way better quality than this.

Yelp
I can appreciate the hole in the wall style of restaurant however this place did disappoint in food and I advise people to steer away from this restaurant. The dining area is quite uncomfortable with the small tables for rather large plates, little to no ac upstairs. The one thing I can attest for is their bathroom cleanliness. Service was pretty quick given the line. Now for the food, the steam bun was just okay, soggy in the middle causing a very moist texture while eating and holding. Our food in general was also cold, fried rice, orange chicken and chicken feet were all cold and tasted as if they sat for a while. Even asked them to reheat the chicken and it was still fairly "room temperature" did not finish our food and left still hungry. Hopeful to come back to a better experience!

Yelp
This restaurant has some good dim sum located in the Mission District of San Francisco. The chicken noodle dumpling soup was appropriate for the cold weather. The dim sum was delicious . A great spot to get dim sum if you are in the Mission in San Francisco.

Yelp
Arrived a bit after 2pm, craving dim sum. Since we were already close to the Mission, we decided to stop by here since it had good reviews, instead of driving down to Chinatown. Upon arriving in the small hole in the wall shop, I saw that they didn't have a lot of hot items left in the countertop warmer thing. When I asked to order some items, a lot of them were not available anymore and they said it was because they had been busy. I ended up getting just har gow, pork and shrimp shu mai, and xiao long bao. We waited about 10-15 minutes and it was just us ordering. We dined in at one of two tables inside and when she delivered our items in plastic containers, I immediately ask her to exchange one of our har gow because I saw a piece of hair on it. She was quick to replace it. In my pic, I took it after she replaced the one with hair on it. Overall, for the price and taste, it did satisfied my dim sum craving, but I don't think I'd come back and would rather just make the trip into Chinatown for cheaper and tastier dim sum.

Kelly D.

Yelp
Had a brain fart and picked the tourist spot. Thought I was getting four pieces and she gave me six. Got the vibe I was charged el gringo. Sure enough the other reviews confirm this. And the food? One star as well.

Yelp
Solid dimsum that you can get quickly and affordably! They have your typical variety of bakery dimsum with items ready to go in the display, and are constantly cooking and refilling! Their baked bbq bun had tons of meat filling which is always a great eat. I also loved the fried wonton which I've never had before. A great stop for a quick takeout dimsum meal!

Yelp
I was expecting to finally get to taste authentic delicious non Americanized Chinese food since this was recommended by a local and is located in the heart of the biggest China town in America. I got a baked and steamed bbq buns, some noodles, chicken dumplings and a moon cake. The most remarkable for me was the porridge only for the fact that I've never eaten it. Very bland but fine. The food was very average to below average. I was beyond disappointed. My friend has a Chinese restaurant in my little home town in north western PA and her American Chinese menus knocks the socks off of this place.
google avatar

Sam E.

Yelp
Meat ratio in the shrimp & chive dumpling was sad but overall decent place if you don't feel like making the trek to china town
google avatar

Megan L.

Yelp
Nothing wrong with the food, just not that good for the price. Eggs rolls are kinda soggy and nothing really "hits" lol BUT, if you are trying to FILL UP for $10 the pieces of dim sum are on the bigger side. You can order the sticky rice and any other dim sum and you'll be full. Shumai is fkcn huge. Thick skin. People working here are v nice.
google avatar

Jack R.

Yelp
Small hole in the wall offering dim sum at 20% higher prices. There wasn't much of a selection and my friend bought some to go and said that it tasted like it had been sitting there for awhile. For instance the rice paper skin for the dim sum was overly dry and chewy which is a sign that it's been just steaming all day. If you really really really need dim sum in the Mission then come here, but if you can wait go to a restaurant or one with more turnover for a fresher selection.

Yelp
It feels weird to give this place 5* but, unlike a lot of the reviewers here, I'm going to take it for what it is, not for what I wish it could be. It's not a fancy dim sum place. It's not breathtaking. It's just solid, every day take out food. And it's good at being exactly that. Here's what I had: Steamed Spinach Dumplings (w/ glass noodles inside) - Great flavor from the spinach and texture from the glass noodles. Wrapper a little thick but delightful nonetheless. Fried Sesame Seed Balls - Red bean paste was really, really nice. Straightforward flavor and nicely pastey texture. Sesame seed ball itself sweet and chewy. Egg Rolls - These seemed to be vegetarian. Just slightly too crisp but flavor nice. Baked Egg Custard - Not especially memorable... just a decent egg custard with a very mild flavor. I'd had a craving for dim sum for a while but didn't want to deal with driving across town to a sit-down place. This was just fine to scratch that craving. I'll probably return eventually to try more of the menu.

Yelp
Great food and large portions for the price. Service is fast and friendly though there is usually a bit of a line because the place is popular. Their sesame balls and sweet rice ball are vegan which is nice

Dan H.

Yelp
Good dim sum place for the area. Service is okay, hot or miss really. It's a small place and fills up fast. Prices are reasonable for the area.
google avatar

Joseline M.

Yelp
Came for dinner pick up, shrimp dumplings were very doughy. The siu mai were pretty big in size but it lacked flavor and they were very oily for some reason. Service was okay, the girl seemed like she was over her day and maybe she was just having a bad day. I don't think I'll come back because for the price and quality of the food I can go somewhere else and get a better meal.

chelsea m.

Yelp
I ordered wonton soup from this place. And it came with bokchoy. I noticed there was a lot of small insects inside the vegetables and then I noticed two worms in my soup They did not rinse their vegetable before serving it!
google avatar

Bob L.

Yelp
...have been here many times as i live in the 'hood...service is always friendly and efficient...never had any questionable food much less a bad dish...the sui mai is delicious and the noodle / won ton soup is always a big hit for us...thai tea boba is consistently delish...love her fried sesame seed balls... ...agree with other reviews that fault their "open" schedule not being followed...discussed with staff... ...ambiance is simple...stools for seating...has outside dining if weather permits...

Fanni A.

Yelp
We tried the shrimp dim sum and the one with shrimp and chives. They were both amazing. I would also recommend the egg roll. The only reason why it's not a 5/5 because it is a bit expensive for dim sum.
google avatar

Nimo M.

Yelp
We were told to go here by many tourist guides, seasoned tourists and have been to SF Chinatown many times. We ordered to go dim sum, decided last time to eat there, we realized instead of giving our order, they stuffed out box with dumplings we didn't order and probably ones they don't sell, they were clearly stuffers that we wouldn't find until we went home. This business practice is shady and not tourist friendly in any way shape or form. BEWARE.

Yelp
This review is for a delivery order. For an evening order of dim sum and noodles, the items were still delicious. I appreciated the way they packed the soup in a take out noodle bowl, broth was separate. Broth was clear and had good flavor. The wontons were among the best I've ever tasted with a fresh ginger flavor. The baked pork buns (not too sweet) were baked fresh and came warm even for a 30 min ride. And our order of 3 egg tarts came with 4, although those weren't as good, skip it. I bet eating there would make for a better experience but even delivery-takeout was great.

Yelp
I ORDERED POT SICKERS , BBQ PORK BUN ,egg rolls and Wong tong soup I never been so happy would a dim sum place? All my food was cold not fresh

Kim D.

Yelp
Be aware of this place! They upsell the food and their non existence service. If you don't check your receipt before leaving you would see they add the tip automatically without your acknowledgment. I bought dimsum for take out for a total of $57 and when I looked at the receipt they charged me including tip was ~$70 . In addition, they would give you a torn / imperfect pieces of dimsum when you are not looking and still charge at a regular price. I am a lil' disappointed at this place. Happy 4th of July, everyone!! Woohoo!!
google avatar

Xiao W.

Yelp
Can't get dim sum in the Mission. The ratings when I found this place was 4.4, looks like it just went down to 3.8. Well I'm making it go lower cause it's not good.
google avatar

Michelle W.

Yelp
I was around the neighborhood and saw this small spot in the mission selling dim sum. I ordered sesame seed ball, yolk bun and deep fried meat dumplings. The food that I ordered was pretty decent nothing too outstanding and it was pricey comparing to other spots that I go. I also ordered a drink. The strawberry boba was terrible! It literally taste like powder and nothing else. You can't never go wrong with that but it taste pretty nasty... probably wouldn't come back again.
google avatar

Saloni M.

Yelp
Fast casual dim sum. They had a big grand opening banner hanging so I swung by for a snack. This is good for take out or a quick bite eaten in the street at one of their tables or standing. Not good for groups. I wish there were more options that are vegetarian! The spinach dumplings were good. They had a soft translucent wrapper and were steamed. The other vegetarian options are marked on their menu and include egg rolls, custard buns, red bean and paste buns.

Yelp
This dim sum restaurant changed ownership and recently reopened around April 21, 2022. First order: steamed BBQ pork buns, shrimp har gow, fried sesame seed balls, and pan fried pork and vegetable bun. Each item was very good. The ingredients taste fresh and high quality. The sesame balls were crisp and nicely fried with great red bean filling. The pork and cabbage in the pan fried bun were a great bun to filling ratio. The dim sum is ready when you walk in, a nice improvement over the previous owner that was a bit slow.
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
this outlet is really small and best for takeout. the staff was really friendly and sweet. the sesame seed ball was decent but I've seen better filling ratios. the fried wanton's skin was a bit too thick for my liking. the deep fried meat dumplings were chewy and sweet and savory, but much more mochi than actual meat. the pork ribs were pretty tender and the sauce was seasoned well.

M C.

Yelp
Fantastic food and service. Great place to experience the real Chinatown. The sesame buns were fantastic, as was the wonderful ton soup and steamed pork buns. Definitely coming back next time we're in town.
google avatar

Alexa R.

Yelp
Quick, casual and reliable spot. Pretty standard dim sum menu, but have all of the great basics. Limited seating inside, but a good to-go spot to order from. Staff was kind as well, as they gave us an extra steamed pork bun (4 vs the usual 3). Would recommend for a quick snack!

Yelp
TL;DR - Love this little shop in an area without good dim sum. Mainly take out/Chinese fast food. While pricier than Chinatown, I definitely recommend this for quick Chinese takeout (unless you prefer sit down, go to Bao or Big Lantern). I've eaten: - Baked BBQ pork bun: Delicious and well-made. We loved this! You get three in your order. - Sticky rice in lotus leaves: You get 2 big ones for your order, it comes with some chicken, Chinese sausage, etc. Very good with some soy sauce and chili oil. - Shu mai: I don't think this is the best of course, but it will do! - Meat dumping: This is in their display window. The outside is kind of like a fried mochi. It was bomb! Overall, great little store.

Yelp
WHAT. So every weekend I wake up and I'm like... man, I wish I could just walk over and grab some quick dim sum. The problem is that I live in the Mission (y'all over there in the Richmond district spoiled af). I never thought the day would come that I could roll out of bed craving shrimp har gow, walk down the block, and order some legit ass dumplings. I always thought that I'd have to hop in my car and make the drive past golden gate park or god forbid, Twin Peaks. Well, the day has come. House of Dim Sum is not just convenient, not just easy and simple, but downright delicious. The sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf is one of the best I've ever had. Pan fried shrimp and chive dumplings are on point, legit, tasty, perfectly seasoned. The baked BBQ pork bun floods my brain of good memories, brings a smile to my face. The har gow is perfect in every way. And the wonton soup, omg, the wonton soup. I travel far and wide looking for a good wonton soup, and I've found my soul mate. This place is new but it's only a matter of time that the MASSES figure out how delicious it is. You better get in now so you can be the one that knew it before it was cool, before there was a line out the door, before it became too popular for it's own good. And as an aside, keep the Asian restos in the Mission comin. As a fellow continental brethren, I will give you all of my money, as long as your shit tastes as good as House of Dim Sum.

Yelp

Yelp
I had a unpleasant experience dining at House of dim sum, they serve half frozen dumplings, The service was horrible as well, when I made complaints they still expect me to pay for the half cooked dumplings. Instead of refunding this order they just microwaved for me. If you ever eat there, please double check your bills also, because they can't be sneaky and overcharge you like they did with Me and my friends bill.

Yelp
I love The Deilcious Yummy Food it's Very Deilcious &Very Lovely Beautiful Service From The Waiterness Very Cheap Lovely Pricee for The Food &Drink For The Boba

Sophia S.

Yelp
Walked all the way over and it was closed even though it said open until 8:00pm so I never even got to try the food. Small hole in the wall type of look from the outside.
google avatar

Shannon M.

Yelp
Good lunch option in the Mission. I particularly enjoy the won ton noodle soup (won ton mein). They offer the broth separate from the noodles, won ton, and generous amounts of bok choy. If you're in the area and in the mood for this staple definitely stop by.

Andrew C.

Yelp
In a city full of excellent dim sum, House of Dim Sum disappointed on so many levels. Very limited menu with mostly standard items. Steamed dim sum had a pasty texture. Shrimp was tasteless. Fried items were dispensed from a display case and clearly had been there for awhile - they were soggy and lukewarm. Even the tea was awful. Service not particularly friendly. Prices way higher than they should be. One tiny indoor table. No recycling or compost, just a trash can. Avoid.
google avatar

Kat P.

Yelp
This place is a little on the small side but the food is sooo good! I especially love their dimsum and sesame balls. Out of the many dimsum places on this block, I keep returning here. Come and try it out!
google avatar

Nodira R.

Yelp
the chives and shrimp dumplings were very good! cheap easy and filling lunch; egg rolls weren't bad either

Yelp
Super yummy takeaway dimsum! They don't have a big selection for vegetarians but what they do have is super tasty and perfect for a quick fix without having to go to a restaurant. Yum yum for dimsum

Florinda P.

Yelp
Was looking forward to trying this place . Yelp showed they were open on a sunday at 7am. Drove there on my lunch hour and they were closed. If you are not internet savy then get off of yelp

Kaylee M.

Yelp
We decided to pass by for a quick snack and was fairly pleased. We ordered the BBQ Pork Buns and the Shu Mai. The woman at the front counter was very helpful and recommended her favorite items to us. The little place was cute and cozy (nothing fancy), perfect for a small bite for hungry passersbyers.

Elena T.

Yelp
Love this place! Come here for lunch ALL the time! Shrimp and Hargow is my fav. Noodle wonton soup is great too!

Robin L.

Yelp
Super yummy with live cooking (ladies making the dumplings). Came in at dinner time so there was a long wait time. Got everything but they almost forgot our pan fried dumplings. Still great service (probably not when super busy) but portions for the noodles are small, definitely not filling enough by itself.

3 E.

Yelp
I ordered the wonton soup noodle and it's very good. They include fresh bok choy (green veggie) and the dumplings are soft. They didn't appear to be frozen. I also ordered the steam egg yolk bun and they are delicious too. They are large, soft, and yellow filling is not too sweet.
