If you're in Kenosha and hungry, House of Gerhard is where you need to be. The service is top-tier fast and friendly, and they keep the beer coming without you even having to ask. Now, let’s talk food. The Sauerbraten? Absolute perfection; tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. The brats and wurst were spot on, with plenty of sauerkraut on the side. The Hofbrau was cold, crisp, and hit the spot, and their bar’s got some awesome beer steins that give the place some real character. Pro tip: Make a reservation. This place gets packed, and for good reason. Great food, great service, and a laid-back vibe. I’ll definitely be back, Prost 🍺😎

The food is great. I really enjoyed the appetizers. I'd say don't go on a busy day but I don't know what day that would be for them. I booked a reservation for 5 on a Monday evening at 6p.m. and it was packed. I appreciated that they accomodated our extra guest. The seating is quite cramped the way the tables are shaped and placed. There was an extremely large group that came in so we waited a rather long time for our drinks. It was extremely loud and overstimulating. So, I do not recommend to those that are overwhelmed easily. Over all, we enjoyed our first experience as it was new. I can't say we would return unless to eat outside at their patio.

Vintage, nostalgic restaurant that specializes in the best of traditional German food. The staff is dressed "in character" and it's just an unexpectedly fun place! The owners are kind and engaging. We would definitely go back!

What a wonderful restaurant. We were staying nearby and found it for dinner. It's a nostalgic place with delicious German food. We had a wonderful, friendly server who made the visit even more special. Good beer and good food.

If you're considering The House of Gerhard based on its reputation as the "best" German restaurant in town, don't be fooled. It's only the best because it’s the only German restaurant here—and that’s not saying much. Five of us were severely disappointed. Multiple people ordered the Schnitzel, one of their so-called specialties. The breading was as hard as cement, and the meat was so dry and tough it was nearly impossible to cut, let alone chew. It’s clear that meat wasn’t freshly prepared, and if it was "fried in butter," it must’ve been during a previous lifetime because none of us could tell. One person ordered the White Fish - It was overcooked, flavorless, dry, and very disappointing. At $30 a plate, you’d expect quality, or at least food you can chew. Instead, we got overpriced, inedible meals. Drinks, thankfully, were great (props to the bartender 😉), but the service was just average. Bottom Line: Don’t believe the hype. If you're after a good meal, you’ll want to look elsewhere. The prices here are high, and the food quality is LOW. The only reason I gave this place 1 ⭐️, is because 0 isn’t an option.

The food was amazing! Everything we had was flavorful and made just right. I recently moved back to this area. House of Gerhard was top of my list to celebrate my birthday. I was not disappointed. Sally, our server was great. She was attentive, joked with us, and added a wonderful personal touch to the evening.

Google
The owner and hostesses were kind and attentive. Our server was not. We brought our 3 year old twin grandchildren who the owner and hostesses agreed were well behaved. They even brought a treasure box for the children to select a treat from. This was the only kind thing that happened. Our server constantly went by our table without stopping. We had to ask the owner to get our drink. It was fantastic. The hostesses gave us water and butter. The salad with bacon dressing was good. The rolls, garlic crisps and pate were fabulous. The carrots were tasty. The tenderloin was okay. The portion was huge. Some of the food was not good. The kidney bean salad had inedible celery in it, and was really runny. The speatzle was tasteless.

Google
We have been there many times & always excellent. Don’t know if they have a new cook now or what but we’re quite disappointed this time. The Hungarian goulash wasn’t Hungarian & didn’t taste like the other times. The schnitzel offered was only turkey & was dry. The breading was not good. Hard in places so couldn’t eat it. German hard rolls were excellent as were the carrots & potato pancakes.

Yelp
We went to Gerhard's for mother's day! Drinks were great, complimentary apps were delicious (the pâté is so good!), and mains were classic. I would always recommend getting spaetzle or german fries as your choice of potato as well as the chicken spaetzle soup and creamy garlic dressing if you're getting a salad with your meal. I grew up getting the stroganoff with spaetzle which is pretty safe if you're not sure what to get. This spot is my mom's favorite place to go for special occasions as she grew up with the family that started the restaurant. Super cute German supper club interior and all around a great spot to try in Kenosha! There's nothing quite like it!

Yelp
Ohhhh where do I begin?! I have eaten here 3-4 times in the last 5 yrs. Was ok but expensive! Too expensive. My guest got the sausage trio. Under cooked unflavorful. Not good sausage for German. Spaetzel was doughy no flavor. Could not eat it. Sauerkraut was the only food worth eating because they don't make it. Now instead of chicken for the schnitzel they used turkey. Not the same. It was a huge portion but something was off about the texture and breading. I couldn't put my finger on it how to describe it. Then it came to me. Back in the 70's my mom would buy these disgusting cheap fish sticks. Where it would be crisp on the outside but like wet dough inside. That was this schnitzel! Every bite I was gagging. Why, why would it have this strange doughy texture?! I was only 1/4 through our meal and the ignorant waitress walks up, food in my mouth, a piece of schnitzel on my fork and she says you need a box. I said "How about you let me eat first" man, that is a pet peeve of mine. Restaurants should never ask you if you want a box to go until the person is done eating and asks for one. I tried to eat as much as I could considering it was outrageously $32.95. But I could only eat a 1/4. Never so disappointed in my life to pay $70.00 for garbage! You have been warned and read others reviews. This place went down hill terribly. I'll save the criticism of the decor but it's dark, dank and hasn't been updated since the 70's. I felt like I was at my grandmas house 1975. If I could give a zero I would. I'm going to go sulk now that I wasted $70.00 on food I wouldn't feed my pigs! They need to close the doors or revamp their kitchen staff! BEWARE!! My husband that had the sausage was sick all night and still today. They served bad sausage! Thankfully I didn't get sick on the turkey because I hardly ate any of it! Find a new restaurant, I am

Yelp
Yesterday was my birthday. I wish I could say I'm turning 30 but I turned 67. Being disabled sometimes you have good days and sometimes you don't. Yesterday started out great but ended up knocking me out. We had reservations to go here and celebrate my birthday, just my husband and I. I was so looking forward to getting out of our apartment and doing something fun. Unfortunately, I was not able to be mobile. But, they had no problem filling our reservation with someone else. My husband asked to pick up some food to bring home for me. I would much rather be in the restaurant but that was not to happen. So we got beef stroganoff and Hungarian goulash and the food was just excellent! I got strawberry cheesecake for my birthday and I was a happy happy girl! Thank you so much for being so sweet to my husband and helpful. Everyone there is so down to earth and kind like everyone should be in this world! Sincerely, Christine Daniels

Yelp
The food, the service and of course ambiance are all wonderful. Superclub! I've had the beef rouladen with red cabbage, the best I've had.

Yelp
We went over a year ago and we enjoyed everything about our experience. The food was very good and the service was helpful and attentive. We live in Illinois otherwise we would have gone back already. We will go back sometime on vacation.

Yelp
The food is amazing . It melts in your mouth . Food is prepared to order. The service is great they are very attentive. I love their attire in the Germany Faire . It's a white tablecloth cloth napkins resturant . You can see outside. It looks like a Chalet. They have German Beer. I didn't get desert but I'm sure it's great. They have a parking lot but the parking is tight. You need to make reservations because it is very busy. Closed on Sundays opened at 4:00 on Saturday when I went with friends and my daughter . I enjoyed this opportunity very much !

Yelp
We were driving around southern Wisconsin looking at fall leaves and had a hankering for a fish fry... House of Gerhard came up in the search listings and was only 20 minutes away, so we gave it a try. Definitely a classic Wisconsin supper club, mostly German food - a nice dark bar out front. Great service - good (and plentiful) food. Neither one of us ended up with the fish fry after all. My wife had schnitzel and i had prime rib. And of course, with a supper club, we had a huge array of food come to the table before our entrees. Pate, relish tray, salad, soup, etc. My only complaint was that the prime rib didn't have much beefy flavor. It was a good cut of meat, done perfectly - just not exceptional flavor. Maybe it's just the state of beef lately - too lean to have much flavor. My wife's schnitzel was excellent though. We'll be back where we're in the neighborhood!

Yelp
Everything was great. You would not want to miss this stop, if you want to have a remember awesome experience. If you are a male, visit the restroom the decor is surprising.

Yelp
Four of us meet here occasionally because its location brings Milwaukeeans' and Chicagoans together. We enjoy the setting, food and service. This time, Rouladen, Walleye, a Rueben sandwich and Stroganoff embellished our table. All were presented attractively and got high marks. Little details on which the management could improve, however. A restaurant that likes to be regarded as "German" should teach its American waitresses how to pronounce some of its German specialties. "Spatzl" is not a German word, for example. The roulade was dry and had received a covering of a thickened gravy. It would be better to let it rest covered in its juices. A better offering of German desserts would be appreciated. We'll be back because this is our "meeting place".

Yelp
Wish they had 10 stars it was that good. They had awesome specials ( I am sure the menu is awesome as well but I just ordered off the specials). I had a glass of white wine, and normally I do not have wine but saw many tables people drinking it. It was really, really good. My dinner was fantastic. House salad ( I never eat salad) but it was good. My old fashion fish fry ( cod) was outstanding. I am a fish snob after living on the West coast for an awhile but this cod was outstanding. The cooked carrots were suburb . Baked potato was cooked well but the butter was a tad off. The service was outstanding. I don't remember our waitress's name but she was absolutely awesome and they had a lot of waitresses, and all weee working hard. The place itself is already for Christmas and so cute. We are already planning on going again. Can't wait.

Yelp
When I visit Kenosha I have to come here. Went last week and sat in the bar. Bartender is awesome. She made me old fashioned cocktails with a espresso martini to finish off my night. I love the ambiance here. Very warm and comfortable.

Yelp
Such a cool German restaurant! Old school decor, festive and just what you hoped it would be. Amazing service. The food was just spectacular! We were so surprised how fun it was. Epic amounts of food too.
google avatar

Julie Z.

Yelp
Excellent food, excellent atmosphere, excellent wait staff!! 45 minute delay being seated with a reservation but had a great time at the bar watching the bartender putting together such scrumptious drinks, I wanted to try them all especially the Grasshoppers, Brandy Alexander's, etc (they're so big and piled high!!!). I'll return again and again!

Yelp
We love House of Gerhard! The food is consistently excellent across the board, The soups (which seem to change nightly), mushrooms, beef stroganoff and the complimentary pate are all standouts. And even on the busiest nights, the service is still good. Prices are fair and the portions are plentiful. Fun atmosphere, too.

Sal C.

Yelp
As advertised. The man who greets you at the door is exceptional. Very polite and welcoming. The food is very well prepared and delicious. Trout Almandine, Hungarian Goulash and crazy good Pot Roast. I'm certain other menu selections are equally tasteful. The place is authentic German. Make reservations because they are busy from open til close. We'll be back. Thanks for the positive experience at every turn.

Andy P.

Yelp
Schnitzel was one of the best I have had in years. The pork shanks was mentored by a friend and another diner along with me had the rouladen, which was about as perfect as it could be. We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was amazing as usual. This is my father's favorite place for prime rib. Both my uncle and my father enjoyed everything! They ordered the exact same. They both had escargot, salad, prime rib, and dessert! This was a celebration for my masters graduation! My uncle really enjoyed his first time here and he is excited to go back with my aunt. Great service and ambiance! Thank you for making this such a memorable day for me. I have framed the pictures of my uncle with my graduation pictures. His smile says it all. I know this was a great day for my whole family!

Yelp
House of Gerhards is my favorite place to go for date night or ladies night! I love the little table appetizers that come with the meal. The French onion soup so is good. I have my handful of favorite meals that I rotate through every time we go!!
google avatar

Yelp
I absolutely LOVE this place! Despite the 50 minute drive from home I choose to come here every year on my birthday. You'll drive right past it going through Kenosha, but I encourage you to make the stop (assuming you can get a reservation of course). Could not recommend enough! Walk in and see the elevated bar, which is lit with Christmas lights. The walls are littered with old photos of the Gerhard family and other old photographs and German decor. Waitstaff is attentive and always friendly, no matter who waits on you, and dressed in traditional beer hall garb. Now to the food. I have had many dishes here and none of them have left me unsatisfied. The French onion soup is the best I have ever tasted. All dinners come with a spread of German hard rolls, apple cinnamon rolls, liver pâté, a house salad, and a rotating salad (i.e. coleslaw, kidney bean salad, potato salad, etc). Of the main dishes, two stand out to me. The prime rib, a supper club classic and done just as well as anywhere in northern Wisconsin. Next is the Oskar Schnitzel. They use a turkey cutlet, but manage to keep it moist and flavorful throughout the cooking process. Topped with real crabmeat, asparagus, and a rich hollandaise sauce, it's a can't miss dish and my most frequented order. As far as sides go, you would do yourself a disfavor if you did not have the carrots. Sliced, warmed, and slightly sweet, they will melt in your mouth and have you craving more. The spaetzel is also highly recommended. Traditional German dumplings which are always soft and delicious!
google avatar

Ashley K.

Yelp
I'm sure the food is good for people who like German food, I actually had my first date with my boyfriend here. Wanting to try something new for our first experience together- we both found we don't like German food haha. It was a wonderful experience though, we loved the decor and politeness of the workers it was a lovely experience.

Jeff C.

Yelp
This place came highly recommended by a few of my coworkers, so I decided to give it a try. I ended up going there a couple of times for dinner, and both meals were amazing! I was by myself, so o sat at the bar both times, and the service was excellent! The bartender had several house drinks which were fantastic. The next time my business travels takes me to the Kenosha area, you can bet that I'll return! One tip, you'll want to arrive as soon as the place opens as it fills up quickly, but if you have to wait, you'll be glad that you did!

Yelp
Err on the side of caution and call to make reservations. They are 99% always very busy. The service, food, & ambiance were perfect as usual. Amanda was such an awesome server too. Our Chocolate Martinis were spot on. The Beef Stroganoff with Spätzle was so delicious & rich and the Cordon Bleu Schnitzel was tender, flavorful, and comforting. I recommend only eating one-third or half of your main meal and pack the rest up for a meal tomorrow because you should save room for desert! Their Black Forest Cake was a treat. Everything or just about everything is homemade too. Parking was the only issue (a usual issue), but be patient, you won't be disappointed with your meal & experience. There is street parking available and parking at the bank, only when they are closed. Do not park across the street in that larger lot. They tow with a $300 fine. Our hostess was apologetic about the parking situation, but she gave us helpful info. The restaurant has such a friendly environment too. It feels like you're hanging out with dear friends & family.

Yelp
My wife and I celebrated our Valentine's dinner at House of Gerhard, enjoying its pleasant atmosphere and excellent service. We were welcomed warmly, promptly seated, and attended to by our waitress shortly thereafter. I've rated the food three stars. We both opted for the filet and shared a lobster. The lobster was outstanding--perfectly prepared! However, the steaks left us wanting. Despite being priced comparably to Ruth's Chris, the quality of the meat did not live up to expectations. Both steaks were tough, resembling the texture of a sirloin more than a premium filet, which was disappointing. Despite this, we are eager to visit again. The menu offers a broad selection of enticing dishes that we're excited to explore further.
google avatar

Becky L.

Yelp
Giving 4 stars for the food and the quality of the servers. However, not a 5 because of how long it always takes to dine here. We had a reservation for 5:30pm but they said it would be another 10-15 minutes to be seated when we got there. Once we were seated, it only got more chaotic with how busy they are (good sign, right?). We ordered pretty quickly but it took a while to get our bread and pate. We also asked to get a French onion soup before salads, but it came after the salads. Then, it took a while to get our entrees. The beef stroganoff was very good but the filet wasn't too exciting. Not much flavor to it. Our server was very nice and tried really hard. It's probably tough with all of the tables or if the kitchen is slammed. We ended up leaving about 8pm. Great place with great people - just be prepared for it to take a while.

Yelp
We have come twice in recent years for a large party funeral luncheon. The food is ok--nothing special or particularly unique from a German menu. They have the usual standards and prepare them just fine. Except the bugs and hair on the plates. Those aren't supposed to be there. Service is a dumpster fire. The staff are rude and arrogant. Food takes 90 minutes or more to come out, even when they are planning for you to arrive. At our most recent luncheon the staff took two hours to get our food out and then rushed us all out the door for their dinner service. The bill was $1600 and they treated us like we were an inconvenience. Our party was insulted and amazed the crew working here was so rude. People didn't even finish their meals. This is among the worst restaurants I have ever seen. I will never, ever, come back. I hope you don't, either.

Richard G.

Yelp
Went there for lunch and the food (as always) was excellent. I had sauerbraten and it was just like I remember from being stationed with the Army in Germany. The meat was tender and moist accompanied by a thick tasty gravy. The service was impeccable! Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Food and service has gone way down here, used to be my favorite place to eat its sad... My Old fashion, a trademark Wisconsin drink was terrible, couldnt even drink it... One piece of asparagus on my chicken oskar and the chicken seemed like it was reheated, very slow service, almost 10 minutes for a coffee and almost 20 for our dessert... Tried another time with a simple Ruben sandwich it was served open faced but not described like that and the corned beef was clearly cut the wrong way... doubt I will try again for a while... Also the place could use a nice thorough dusting...

Yelp
We came to have the Prime Rib and although the food was fresh I must say the place has a dingy feel to it. The waitress was lovely and sweet. She was very attentive and helpful. We had 2 prime rib Lunches with salad and had no drinks. One ice Cream dessert and the bill was $75. Not terrible bit a bit pricey for lunch. The carpet needs to be Replaced. The ladies hats all over the walls is Kind of creepy. They need a decorating overhaul For sure, but the Prime rib was good.

Jim S.

Yelp
I was visiting the area and stopped by for a late lunch. What a nice surprise. The food was delicious and beautifully prepared. It was clear they used the best ingredients available. The service was attentive and friendly. The dining space was pleasant and relaxed. I am looking forward to a return visit.

Sandi P.

Yelp
Started out ok with rolls and house appetizers. They were out of the whitefish so I had beef stroganoff. Mushy noodles and wasn't warm. Disappointing. Clean and pleasant servers.

Yelp
Great new find. Or new try I should say. I've seen it driving by and heard about it from friends and acquaintances since moving here 4 years ago but never stopped in. Covidinterruptis, ya know. Anyway...on to my review. Lovely afternoon spent with my little sister at a quaint, semi old world restaurant. Everyone was very friendly there. Our waitress was sweet. They dress kinda German barmaid. Oddly, it's in a former house so the floors are a tiny bit uneven. JUST LIKE EVERY GERMAN RESTAURANT I'VE EVER BEEN!! It was an odd thought. Onto the food. Very tasty. We both were just in a mood to have prime rib. Which we were told was one of their specialties. It was excellent. We both picked the potato pancakes as well. Very light and crispy. Delish. I got the French onion soup which was gooey goodness that I almost choked to death on because I took too big of a spoonful of the cheese and it went down my windpipe. Oops! Onto dessert after my recovery. A fantastic strawberry shaumtorte. Reminiscent of our mom's. Very good but not very much torte. They can be too sweet if you take too big of a piece (a mistake we made often as kids) but this was served in a lovely ice cream sundae cup and barely had three bites of the torte at the bottom. I'd recommend a little bit more to completely satisfy. Not much because then you'd go into sickly sweet sugar overload. Just a little more. It was a very nice, relaxed atmosphere and we both decided this would be our go to spot whenever she comes up to visit. We can't wait to try the actual German food.

Yelp
Incredibly nice and authentic! Very excellent atmosphere so cozy and inviting. I loved the bar area. Food was top quality. If you enjoy old world authentic German food in a nice Wisconsin Super Club experience give this long standing restaurant a try!

Yelp
Oh House Of Gerhard, you are my new best friend! The exterior has an old world look with stucco and German crests. There is an adorable outdoor patio as well. On a whim, I met my friend for a bite to eat while she waited for her husband to finish golfing. I called ahead and mentioned we would like to sit in the bar if possible. When we arrived, the owner Sabine was sooo welcoming. She showed us 2 tables she had set up so that we would have a choice. We opted for the high top by the window. The foyer is adorable. It feels like the sun room and your Aunt's house. The interior has that sweet, homey feel with a hint of supper club. The is bar feels especially vintage swanky, that makes you want to order an Old Fashion or a Tom Collins. The dining room has classic elegance that feels lost in time. Rachel was our bartender/server and she was more than fantastic! Always smiling, she could not have been more helpful. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and offered detailed descriptions as we just weren't sure what we wanted to order. On top of that, she is a super mixologist that creates tasty cocktails. Our entrees were delicious. We settled on Chicken Oscar and Duck. The hollandaise sauce was creamy and plentiful. The chicken was crunchy yet juicy. The potato was baked perfectly. The duck was delicious and full of flavor. Meals here reflect an incredible value. Bread, bean salad, liver pate, and soup or salad are offered in addition to the veggie and potato with your entree'. Who could ask for more?! We rounded off our dinner with a Black Forest Cake and coffee. The restaurant is steeped in history. You can almost imagine all the past laughter and good times that have filled this jewel box of a restaurant. Sabine and Rachel absolutely made our experience more than wonderful. I can't wait to enjoy a lunch on their patio!

Yelp
Food is great, service is excellent. A little pricey. Very cool inside. Parking lot a little ruff. Tons of pot holes

Yelp
Remember the old fashioned supper clubs we grew up with. Great bar, ample portions, delicious food. Sinful desserts. Great time!

Yelp
A truly authentic experience! If you live in Kenosha and you haven't been here...shame on you! Don't put it off any longer! Germans love meat and potatoes and really know how to season it all up. The one place in town you do not need salt and pepper on the table. They take care of all that before bringing it out to you! And NO Ketchup!! Americans really know how to spoil a good meal!! Order what sounds good, you can't go wrong!! If you are visiting Kenosha, Don't leave until you have given them a try! You will have no regrets!!
google avatar

Kristina T.

Yelp
Good food and service, however I must say I feel like the prices are steep. Went there for lunch and for two of us (no alcoholic beverages included) it was $70+ - I had a soup and sandwich, both entrees were tasty
google avatar

James S.

Yelp
This is a supper club with am Eastern European food bent. The servers all wear Eastern European clothes. Our server was pleasant and engaging. The food was good. The soup was tasty and the rolls were ok. My fish on this visit had good flavor. On previous visits I had the Germanic food options and I think they are definitely better choices. Consistently done food.
google avatar

Gary S.

Yelp
How do I start. Service is awesome, with the waitresses dressed in traditional German clothing. Drinks are well made and powerful. Neither myself or my wife have ever been disappointed with anything we have ordered - especially the prime rib. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Whenever visiting the Kenosha area we make a special effort to plan dining at the House of Gerhard. We did so again recently and we're glad we did, this time trying the Beef Stroganoff and the Hungarian Goulash Iron Skillet Dinners. Both include generous portions of tender and succulent bites of beef simmered in their own very flavourful sauce, cooked and presented in black cast iron skillets. The server will ladle your initial serving for you onto your plate with spaetzle, noodles, or rice. Of course all dinners also come with German hard rolls and muffins, liver pate`and garlic toast, relish salad of the day (fruity cole slaw this time), soup of the day (clam chowder) or dinner salad, and choice of spaetzle, noodles, or rice (potatoes for other dishes). We reluctantly skipped the appetizers this time, knowing how much food we would be getting as part of our dinners, but we have enjoyed all of them in the past, including the French onion soup. We also skipped dessert for the same reason, but they always have great options for indulging. Of course there is also a great selection of beer (German varieties on tap), wine, and unique cocktails. So live it up and try the House of Gerhard soon and often!

Yelp
Very good. Rouladen done very well. Great service and good list of authentic German draft beer. Will go again for sure.

Yelp
Good food and a great place to go while you're in the Kenosha area. The staff was really nice & the beet salad to start is a nice touch. Also, nice Christmas decorations. Get the spätzle!

I was at Gerhard's and orders the prime rib. The potion I was served was all bone and very little meat. The baked potato was tiny. Overall, a very disappointing dinner.

Yelp
Good service. Atmosphere nice, white tablecloth and napkins. Food was only fair. My husband had the sausage sampler. He didn't like the sausage at all the carrots were over cooked, and the Spoetzl was soggy. We were disappointed in the food.

Yelp
Excellent cuisen! A must for Fall dining. The Ham has flavor you have never ate. It's so delicious. You must order it. They could be more generous with the spaetzle as it was only 1/4 cup. But still good. The meat at this establishment is extraordinary! We did take out. The staff brought it directly to our car. They have outdoor seating. We may do that sometime as we had our dog with us and they said they allow dogs on the patio. Must return. Highly Recommended!

Yelp
This was our first trip to House of Gerhard in probably eight or nine years. Used to come here quite frequently - often for Friday night fish fries - but haven't been back since we moved out of the area. Thought we'd try it again for our anniversary and found that it was well worth the drive (about 50 minutes). I really like that each meal begins with appetizers of sauerkraut salad (at least that was the salad of the day when we went) and chicken liver pate. If you think you don't like chicken liver... try this stuff anyway! It is fantastic! My wife had her favorite - Beef Stroganoff - and it was as good as she remembered. Super tender beef with mushrooms and a really great sauce and noodles. I had the Holsteiner schnitzel, which is a huge schnitzel with two sunny side eggs and anchovies. Accompanying it, I had the spätzle - with gravy on the recommendation of our waitress. It also came with sweet braised carrots. Everything was terrific! And we each had half our meal left for lunches the next day - and everything reheated very well. We were debating what to have for dessert when we were surprised with one of their Schaum tortes for our anniversary. We had never had this before, even though it is their dessert specialty. Okay, now we're hooked! The crunchy meringue, topped with ice cream, strawberries and whipped cream was a real winner. Oh... and the cocktails are terrific too! If you like German food, try this place out. If you don't like German food, you should think about trying it anyway - it is good enough to change your mind!
