I absolutely LOVE this place! Despite the 50 minute drive from home I choose to come here every year on my birthday. You'll drive right past it going through Kenosha, but I encourage you to make the stop (assuming you can get a reservation of course). Could not recommend enough!
Walk in and see the elevated bar, which is lit with Christmas lights. The walls are littered with old photos of the Gerhard family and other old photographs and German decor.
Waitstaff is attentive and always friendly, no matter who waits on you, and dressed in traditional beer hall garb.
Now to the food. I have had many dishes here and none of them have left me unsatisfied. The French onion soup is the best I have ever tasted. All dinners come with a spread of German hard rolls, apple cinnamon rolls, liver pâté, a house salad, and a rotating salad (i.e. coleslaw, kidney bean salad, potato salad, etc).
Of the main dishes, two stand out to me. The prime rib, a supper club classic and done just as well as anywhere in northern Wisconsin. Next is the Oskar Schnitzel. They use a turkey cutlet, but manage to keep it moist and flavorful throughout the cooking process. Topped with real crabmeat, asparagus, and a rich hollandaise sauce, it's a can't miss dish and my most frequented order.
As far as sides go, you would do yourself a disfavor if you did not have the carrots. Sliced, warmed, and slightly sweet, they will melt in your mouth and have you craving more. The spaetzel is also highly recommended. Traditional German dumplings which are always soft and delicious!
