The 20 Best Spots In Northeast Philly

"There are a number of good Thai places in the Northeast, but this one is our go-to. With a bunch of noodle options like pad see ew, salads like som tam, and a few shareable duck dishes, this takeout-only spot is the place to head to for a standout casual weekday meal. Grab the breaded siam chicken that's perfectly chewy and comes with sauteed string beans, broccoli, and a gloriously sweet peanut sauce that we’d buy by the bucket. Plus, they open at 11am, so you can also grab a quick lunch and a Thai iced tea before heading back to the office (or the couch)." - candis mclean

The 5 Best Thai Restaurants In Philly

"Some people might tell you that the Northeast is all about the steaks and sandwiches. And they wouldn’t be wrong. But it’s also full of Thai places—House Of Thai being the very best. The takeout-only spot is one of our go-tos for a standout casual dinner, but they open at 11am, so you can also grab a quick lunch and Thai iced tea before heading back to the office. Don’t miss the lightly breaded, perfectly chewy Siam chicken, the creamy green curry packed with tender eggplant, and anything with duck in it (it’s their specialty)." - alison kessler

Google
this place is a hidden gem, if you know you know. Food is very good. Will recommend everyone to give them a try and support a local restaurant

Google
The food here is really delicious, and the service is very attentive. Everyone should try the Fried Calamari — it’s super tasty!

Evelyn Tran

Google
Will definitely be back! The food was delicious, recommend the Pad Thai it was a bomb! The mango sticky rice was just like what I had in Thailand!

Kenny Lam

Google
Best Thai tea drink in northeast area!! Also, you gotta try out their fried rice, It’s out of this world taste so good here!!

Arnaud Desies

Google
A very affordable place to eat the classic dishes from Thailand. The service is on point and the food is good, I had the delicious Tom Kha Kai soup and the mango salad which I loved. The satay chicken skewers are the only little disappointment for me, I was hoping for a thicker and more flavorful satay sauce. I must also say that I loved the jazz music in the background, it’s so refreshing to hear elegant relaxing music instead of the usual radio that nobody cares about.

Google
**update this is now my new favorite place I ate in today it was wonderful, small, cozy nice jazz music, good great service and food. It's a hidden gem I had the shrimp with mango curry and we ordered chicken and shrimp drunken noodles. All excellent**They were fast and the drunken noodles were good with a nice tangy kick to it. We found it on Yelp and went back the next day.

Google
Fresh tasty food...we were five and everyone thoroughly enjoyed everything. The drunken noodles are my favorite with a big mound of veggies and shrimp I requested spicy and it was just the right amount of heat. The staff are very nice and do a fine job Very reasonable.

Google
The food at this restaurant is absolutely delicious! My go to order is the Red Curry with Chicken and it’s consistently delicious every.single.time! I have NEVER been disappointed. If you’re in the area, check them out. And if you’re not in the area, check them out.

Yelp
Went here for a quick lunch with a coworker and food was delicious! Service was quick as well. I got drunken noodles which were Soo good! We also got these chicken purses as an app which was also really good. Id love to come back next time I'm in the area.

Yelp
Fantastic Thai restaurant. Liked everything I ordered. The golden bangs, however, were the real standup. Wonton dumpling, stuffed with meat and cabbage and fried was a truly delicious option. The only thing that hold this place back from being a five star was the texture of the noodles in my drunken noodle dish. They were a little mushy as if they had been slightly overcooked, but the sauce, the proteins, and the vegetables in the dish were fantastic enough to make me overlook some slightly overcooked noodles

Yelp
Picked up takeout so can't speak to dine in service. The red curry chicken was pretty good. It was spiced well and had great flavor-- I just wish it had more chicken and bell peppers instead of an abundance of bamboo. I would return to try other menu options.

Yelp
My first time ordering from there and the lady at the front desk was very nice and it's a little cute place to possibly go on a day at. I personally wouldn't go back, I don't like my food being over cooked. The noodles being over cooked to the point that they were almost soggy is so gross while eating. The price wasn't bad at all.

Yelp
Food: House of Thai is a neighbor staple. I can always rely on them when I'm not sure what I want to eat. I typically order the pad thai, drunken noodles, a curry, and a fried rice. They are all very authentic tasting and perfectly spiced. The papaya salad is a must order, it is super refreshing and delicious. There's a lot on the menu and they all taste great! Highly recommend the Thai tea too! Service: Quick & friendly. No complaints! We typically do take out. Ambiance: Smaller restaurant and it's well decorated. A perfect local Thai place!

Yelp
The food is delicious, I think most it their business comes from takeout, the services was good. Restaurant was clean cute and quiet. It's a byob, d

Yelp
This place is dead inside so I wouldn't suggest dining in because you might be alone in the restaurant but the food is amazingly good for delivery. They have the best mango sticky rice of all the Thai restaurants in Philly and their entrees are appropriately spiced/seasoned. Definitely give this place a try the next time you want to order DoorDash/ uber eats / Grubhub
google avatar

Yelp
I absolutely DEVOURED AND LEFT NO CRUMBS‼‼‼ Was feeling hungry because I was two hours early to music class nearby so I decided to eat and let me tell you when I ate their noodles, I made sure to enjoy every single thing on that plate. It's a very relaxing vibe and it has a fancy feeling to it along with calming music. Loved the service, it wasn't loud in there and the man at the counter was very nice and friendly :)

Yelp
I was in Northeast Philly for a meeting and four of us went here for a late lunch. Food was excellent, Ambiance was Spartan but Classy. I had a seafood salad, a little spicy but not overwhelming, my friend had Drunken Noodles. The appetizers were lightly fried and the dishes were also excellently presented. Metered parking in front of entrance. I'm in that part of town from time to time, so I will be back.

Yelp
We came here for dinner on a Saturday night to try this local Thai restaurant. I don't usually eat out in Northeast Philly so the area is a bit different for me. The restaurant is located in the middle of the street and may be hard to spot if you're walking there. The outside makes it seem a bit dark, but it ended up being a quite and intimate place. Great for conversations. The food was actually quite good. We had the Drunken Noodles and Basil Thai Rice. The Drunken noodles were actually quite flavorful, probably better than most other Thai restaurant's I've been to. The fried rice was also good, though not nearly as memorable. The waitstaff were pretty attentive. Overall the restaurant is a great place for dinner, it's inexpensive, and is a comfortable environment for a weekend dinner.

Yelp
All good. Only issue we had for dine in. Too much uber eats type pick ups. All making noise with calls going on over speaker phones walking in and out through the small dinning room.

Jeff

Yelp
Very bad attitude by the owner or those in charge when we went for a dine in...we went with our children. They showed the attitude of why are you here... it's as if they are happy with take away ... will never go there
google avatar

Christina P.

Yelp
One of the best local thai places. Love them for take out. Drunken noodles have the right amount of spicy, making a perfect pair with the thai tea. You can never go wrong with the chicken pad thai. Really quick service too. All this for $40, really good deal.

Adina R.

Yelp
Amazing!! Wow what a perfect experience This is a must try if you're in the area Definitely can't wait to come back
google avatar

Yelp
Food was solid. All the dishes were right on. The Pad Thai was a little too sweet for me out of the container, but some Hot Sriracha fixed that. The Beef basil was perfect. Really came thru. Last dish was Chicken Pad See Ew. Very good. I always like to add a sweet Indonesian / Philippines soy sauce just to amp it up. But it doesn't need it.

Yelp
Hands down the best Thai restaurant in Philadelphia. This is their drunken noodle and pad Thai. Good flavor and portion. Family run business with the nicest people. Definitely felt good supporting such wonderful people and food.

Yelp
Ordered takeout on DoorDash and decided to give something new a try--So glad I went for it cause everything was soooooo good, I ended up ordering two nights in a row. I loved the Talapia, fried rice and the shrimp golden; those will probably be my go to for now on. I could've done without the pad Thai, the noodles absorbed the sauce so it was a little dry for my liking but everything was fresh and the portion sizes were perfect for sharing or dining family style.

Yelp
Food is always delicious from House of Thai. Service is good and the ambiance is nice when you walk in. This restaurant isn't far from where I live and food is always hot and ready when I pick up my order. I recommend.

Yelp
Good food and excellent service. Nice interior.i would definitely recommend this restaurant

Yelp
*Takeout review* Food: 5/5 Parking: Street Meter Parking House of Thai was recommended to me by couple of my colleagues, some of which would drive 30 minutes just for their food. After ordering couple popular items, I can see why. At the time of my arrival, there was some minor construction ongoing. But that didn't impact my experience, since we ordered for takeout. What was ordered: Spring Rolls (Good) Thai Fried Rice - with Chicken (Delicious) Drunken Noodle (Absolutely delicious) - I can see why it is so popular. I would not hesitate to order this dish every single time. It is packed with flavor, and the food is thoroughly cooked, tasted very fresh. If you are in the area, highly recommend giving this restaurant a try.

Yelp
Great place, best Thai food I've had in Philly. Very nice people who let my boyfriend and I dine in even though we showed up close to closing :) The panang curry with beef was especially good!

Yelp
Very good hidden gem in Northeast Philly. Usually get the drunken noodle here and it never miss They recently started dine-in again

Yelp
After over three years of calling and getting takeout only House of Thai is FINALLY reopened for dine-in!!! This is hands down the best Thai food in the Philadelphia and Bucks County regions. In the last three years we've searched and tried them all with deep disappointment. On to the food..... We ordered the shrimp/lemongrass soup, chicken satay, and Thai dumplings. The soup is a perfect balance of spicy and sour, with plentiful vegetables and shrimp. Vegetables are not overcooked and the shrimp is free and tender. Chicken satay is well seasoned and grilled but not charred and tender. It is accompanied by a peanut sauce which is sweet with a hint of spices (not spicy/hot), and a cucumber salad (refreshing palette cleanser). The Thai dumplings are a delicious blend of pork and shrimp wrapped in a delicately and spiced perfectly. The ginger sauce that accompanies the dumplings balances out the flavors of spicy, sweet, and sour to make this dish mouthwatering. We wanted to order a second serving but didn't. For our entrees, we both ordered the chicken Penang curry (spicy) with brown rice. The curry is so flavorful and complex, it's difficult to describe other than that you'll want to just pick up the bowl and drink it, but you shouldn't ;) It's spicy but not too spicy that you're grasping for your water, wiping the sweet from your brow, or blowing your nose, but a decent level of spice to balance the flavors. Again the vegetables are not over cooked and soft (green beans, red peppers, and peas), and the chicken is plentiful and tender not rubbery. Lemongrass used sparingly but present to balance the spice. Poured over brown rice, this dish has been our go-to plate and is so good, it's hard for us to order anything else. For dessert, we had the mango sticky rice. This is the only way to finish a perfect Thai meal without feeling overly stuffed. The mango is ripened and drizzled with a honey sauce and the rice is cooked perfectly and sweetened with the same honey sauce. Perfection! If the food wasn't enough to keep us returning, which it is - this small and classy restaurant with modern design with welcoming and friendly staff makes this a perfect spot for a couple our group of friends looking for a great meal at a great price. BONUS: This is a BYOB - Bring whatever you like!

Yelp
Treated myself to Pad Thai and Red Curry takeout last week (I was REALLY hungry) and it was just that - a treat! Amazing food, especially for the price. The flavor was on point for both meals, and the portion sizes were good so I had leftovers for dinner. Impressed that they didn't skimp on meat and veggies like some Thai places do (by loading up on the noodles/rice). Finally, service was super quick and it was finished and delivered in less than 30 mins! Only gripe is I wish they came with chopsticks. Had to eat with a plastic fork and spoon ;(
google avatar

Yelp
The Thai Dumplings and chicken drunken noodles were delivered quickly. Great flavors and textures!

Yelp
Very delicious food, good service. I'm very happy that the restaurant has allowed customers to eat again. Thank you

Yelp
Great Thai food can be hard to come by. I've had my fair share of subpar Thai restaurants, and let me tell you, I absolutely hate losing my money to these places! This is why I am very particular about choosing food from a new Thai restaurant and be sure to check the Yelp reviews. Since I moved to the Philly area a few months back, I was forced to find something new in the area. Thankfully I came across House of Thai! I can't comment on customer service or the experience of eating in, but I can talk about my pleasant time ordering via DoorDash. I've already ordered from here three times. My order has been the same each time: spring rolls, chicken curry puffs, and drunken noodle. Love their consistency!! All entrees are very flavorful and have the perfect blend of authentic Thai spices. I love that the drunken noodle has ever veggie I actually like to eat, and the noodles taste so fresh. I need to order other items off the menu, but my initial experience with this place is 5 out of 5 stars. I've looked for other Thai places in the Philly suburbs area and haven't come across anything this spectacular!

Yelp
Ordered out here with a couple friends. It really is a place with mixed reviews depending on what you get. I personally got the panaeng curry and it was ok. Nothing special about the flavor, a typical curry mediocre curry. The chicken is the same as the chicken breast slices you get in any Chinese chicken dish. It's not the best chicken with curry as it was a bit dry and doesn't really absorb the flavor of the curry. The chicken satay was pretty flavorless with a small hint of curry powder flavor. The best thing out of the meal was the curry puff. A little on the sweet side which I enjoyed as it basically reminds me of a samosa. The most flavorful thing out of everything we ordered. I would've given this a 3 star, but one of my friends had some pretty bad experiences with their food. Bottom line DON'T get the Pad Thai. It tasted like someone just poured a ton of salt in it. Was barely edible. It's really a hit or miss restaurant with mediocre food.

Audrey L.

Yelp
We order from here all the time and have yet to have a problem. The food is always good and taste fresh. I love the fried shrimp they have. This place is always my go to for Thai food when I'm at home and refuse to leave the house.
google avatar

Yia-Ming L.

Yelp
Really disappointing place. House of Thai was recommended to me by a friend. We were excited to try it because it's been hard finding a good thai place in the NE. However, it was really disappointing. I ordered the shrimp pad thai but it was so oily and bland. There was only 2 pieces of small shrimp in the dish.
google avatar

Alex C.

Yelp
I'm always coming back to this place and it's great every single time. The quality is good and the prices are fair for what you're getting. I personally enjoy their Pad Se Ew, Calamari, and Thai tea but I would recommend the entire menu with confidence.
google avatar

Tanisha W.

Yelp
This place is underrated. The pineapple fried rice with the Thai spring rolls is my go to. Service is in a timely manner and you can dine in or take out of you choose to do so. Nicely decorated dining area.
google avatar

Claudine S.

Yelp
Food is excellent. Drunken noodles are my favorite entree. Curry puff and vegetable dumplings are also go to orders for appetizers. Have been coming here since 2012. The service is excellent. Due to the amount of seating, very intimate and cozy especially when dining in the evening.
google avatar

Joshua P.

Yelp
This is hands down the best Thai restaurant in the northeast. & my second favorite Thai restaurant in the city. I'm a big fan of their drunken noodle! Their spicy basil fried rice is always delicious. & you definitely can't go wrong with their red curry or green curry dishes either. If you're in the mood for some delicious Thai cuisine you won't regret stopping in here a bite to eat.
google avatar

Cipriana A.

Yelp
One of my favorites for Thai. Delicious food, consistently good. Never had anything that was not delicious. Hope they continue to be in our community.
google avatar

Melanie M.

Yelp
I accompanied a friend and her mom here for Mother's Day. I've never been before, but both of them have. We started with the curry puffs and the spring rolls. Both were good, especially the curry puff (reminded me of a samosa). For mains I got the honey duck, my friend a chicken curry and her mom drunken noodles with shrimp. My duck was very good. Would order again. I've never had curry before so that was interesting to taste. Not bad. The drunken noodles were good as well. To end the night we ordered the fried ice cream to share. It was so good that we ordered anther one. It's one scoop of vanilla ice cream with a friend wonton wrapper around it. Great way to end the night!
google avatar

Yelp
On a long road trip from Maine to Kentucky we stopped for the night in Philly and we were too tired to go out to eat. We ordered TONS of food from House of Thai via UberEats and it arrived fresh and hot. It was delicious. Everything was correct and all of the ingredients were bright and fresh tasting. Thank you!

Joseph D.

Yelp
The pork drunken noodles are one of my top five meals anywhere. Dining in you would have no idea you were at cottman and frankford. Wife loves their Pad Thai. Their spring rolls and coconut soup are also our go tos. I'm
google avatar

Angel C.

Yelp
Went there the other day with my boyfriend and I have to say the interior is very nice, however really small. So as a result, you hear ALL of the conversations around you. However, that's besides the point. The food here is good, not over the top amazing, but really good for the price and area. For our app we had the golden shrimp which were tasty but a but pricey for only 4 pieces as I know places in center city that give you 6 for the same price. For my entree, I got the drunken noodles which were again tasty but not amazing. My boyfriend got the sweet sausage fried rice, which he liked. BUT THE BEST THING THEY HAVE IS THE MANGO STICKY RICE! The dessert reminded almost of how my grandma makes it. Although the rest of the food was just okay, the mango sticky rice was amazing! Bonus Points for real thai tea!
google avatar

Nary K.

Yelp
My coworkers kept talking about this place, saying it is a great Thai place and very authentic. So, I tried it for the first time today and it did not disappoint. I ordered Drunken Noodles with shrimp and Thai Iced Tea. It was amazing and the portions are huge! I will definitely be ordering from them again (maybe tomorrow, lol). My co-workers ordered Pineapple Fried Rice and Pad Thai, which were also very flavorful. I've had plenty of Thai food from various restaurants in the past and so far, this place is very authentic with their ingredients. Price is typical Thai restaurant prices; $12.95 for the drunken noodles and $2.50 for the Thai Iced Tea. My advice- try it! You'll love it and you will go back! *I have gone back to House of Thai numerous times since this review and I always order Shrimp (sometimes veggie) drunken noodles with Thai Iced Tea and every time, I am satisfied with the quality of the dish. You can really tell that they use fresh ingredients.

Fernando F.

Yelp
Great experience overall! Fried scallops are a must. Staff was friendly and welcoming. All food was fresh and had a lovely presentation.
google avatar

J Y.

Yelp
The food is so fresh and delicious! I have a seafood allergy and they are very accommodating. I will ask to make my food with no fish sauce or oyster sauce. They are friendly and I always look forward to coming back!
google avatar

Nikki C.

Yelp
Somehow I stumbled across this spot (silly me for thinking the Northeast didn't have good Thai food). LOVE the food here, especially their garlic chicken and their chicken satay. Like so good I'm smacking. On the other hand, I can tell that they only use whatever vegetables they have in the restaurant. I'll randomly get tomato or something that doesn't really match the vibe which sucks because I likes my green veggies but okay fine. I'll definitely be back but I'll ask about what side veggies they have that day.
google avatar

Ling C.

Yelp
I ordered take out through yelp at 7:33pm and I got a confirmation that the restaurant got my order. Pick up estimate was 8:09 or later. Because I was starving, I arrived exactly on time hoping that it would be done and it absolutely was! I walked in and got my food within a minute. The place was noticeably very clean, organized, thoughtful of customers/ 2 doors and a clear pathway to the counter. Don't expect utensils or napkins in your takeout bag though! Chicken coconut soup / Thom kha Khai $4.95: I have mixed feelings about this soup. The soup really essentially was coconut, cabbage, chicken, Thai chili pepper, and white mushroom. I expected a lot more ingredients in this soup as I frequently eat this (I have made this a few times and even have a Thai cookbook); Did they do as they stated in the description for the item? Yes. Is it worth 4.95? Eh, I guess. I probably wouldn't get again. The taste is smoky, spicy coconut because of the Thai pepper, be aware! Is this authentic? Can a dish be authentic if the ingredients weren't all used? Idk. 3.5/5 Pad Thai with 2 meats(shrimp and beef) $14.95: I must say, you have to mix it all really well together then eat it. The beef in it was very chewy, they could've done better cooking it, but overall tasted really good. I got 3 regular sized shrimps in this for anyone wondering. 4/5 Beef salad: Surprisingly really good. Very acidic. Happy to taste fresh romaine lettuce and tomato in it. Beef again super chewy. 4.5/5 Am I satisfied and full? Yes. Would I go again? Yes. Parking? Metered parking out front on a busy street. Or you can choose to park on a smaller street for free.
google avatar

Tanya M.

Yelp
So we tried a new place and wow! This place was amazing. It's super cute and quaint and quiet inside. The owner was gracious and the food amazing. I had the drunken noodles and I can't wait to go back and have it again. The only disappointment was that the pork dumplings have shrimp in them. And I'm allergic. Don't mix seafood with meat. We had fried ice cream and both of ours came out like works of art. Five stars all the way
google avatar

Jenny J.

Yelp
Quarantine edition: I was really craving Thai last weekend and this place did not disappoint! I couldn't decide between what I wanted so I ordered all 3 - shrimp drunken noodles, chicken red curry, and chicken yellow curry fried rice. The drunken noodles were AMAZING and the shrimp was so flavorful. The red curry was also really tasty. The yellow curry fried rice was good but not as spicy. Next time, I would probably order another fried rice option. I'm still dreaming of this food a week later and I'll definitely be back soon.

Yelp
Love this place. I've never dined in, but the decor is nice, always clean and intimate size wise. I swear by the Drunken Noodle entrée, I have had every variety of protein pairings. I haven't had a bad dish or app here. A must try!

Joshua B.

Yelp
Amazing. Hot. Fresh. Delicious. Fast delivery. When you call them- simply ask for the drunken noodle with chicken and shrimp. Do it. I dare you. Num. Num. Num. Num.

Yelp
We went here today for an early dinner. We were lucky to get a parking spot right out front. This restaurant is small, but classy. Linen napkins, nice ambience. We ordered spring rolls and steamed dumplings for our appetizers. These dishes came out quickly! The spring rolls were my favorite. Crispy and flaky on the outside - a minced vegetable filling. So good! The dumplings were okay, I prefer a toasted outside, but you won't get that if they're steamed. My boyfriend ordered the Pad Se Ew, stir fried flat egg noodles tossed with egg and broccoli. He added beef. He didn't like this, thinking it bland. He is hard to please though. I had the Drunken Noodles with shrimp. Tasty! Flat noodles tossed with egg, basil leaves, onions, carrots, etc. I could taste lemongrass and other flavors. Everything was fresh and delicious. Cheap too. All this was only $36.00+ tip. Will be back
