Industrial-chic beer hall with craft brews, bar bites & large screens

"Friend, comrade, bud, boon companion—you’ve called your pal everything but their name, and they still don’t get it. To be fair, boon companion sounds far from platonic, but the rest were pretty clear. It’s becoming apparent they still intend to broach the subject of taking your relationship further, but good luck trying to do that at Houston Hall. It’s a huge space with a big projector and people acting foolish in fun-to-watch ways. Turn your boon companion’s attention that way anytime you need to whack-a-mole the words “I’ve been thinking…” coming off the tip of their tongue." - neha talreja
"Some of your friends can rattle off Tom Brady’s MVP seasons, and others only know him as Gisele’s husband. But they all want a rowdy space to day drink with a big group. Go to Houston Hall in the West Village, and drink liter-sized steins of beer at communal tables in the huge, high-ceilinged space. They play games on big TVs on the walls, but more people here are interested in talking about where Tom and Gisele rank among celebrity power couples than whatever is happening on the screens." - matt tervooren
"The Beer Hall followed up its Polk St. outpost with its second location in Union Square near the Powell cable car stop. They serve a long list of draft beers, small bites like truffle fries and chips and queso, and bigger dishes like a fried chicken sandwich. There's also plenty of seating and large reservable tables for big groups." - ricky rodriguez, julia chen 1
"Choly is a month-old Filipino restaurant that occupies a walk-down space on the hopping north side of Houston Street due south of NYU. A basement may sound like unpromising real estate, but this little corner of the Village is thronged with thriving bars, restaurants, and boutiques, above and below street level." - Robert Sietsema
"Tucked into a busy stretch of Houston Street, this cavernous hall is a temple to craft beer, cocktails, and sports that offers a welcome escape from the chaos of lower Manhattan. A massive projector screen and plentiful sightlines let fans catch NFL and college games from nearly every angle, and the crowd is unafraid to get rowdy while cheering (or booing). Large, shareable comfort dishes — notably an oversized oven-baked mac and cheese and Milk Truck grilled cheeses — keep groups satisfied throughout a long day of viewing." - Vox Creative
