Our family stopped by on a whim, expecting a simple dessert stop, but we left with so much more. The team greeted us with genuine smiles and contagious energy, making each scoop feel like it was served with a side of happiness. The ice cream itself? Absolutely delicious — creamy, rich, and full of flavor combinations that taste like summer, even on a chilly day. But what touched us most was the story behind every scoop. Knowing that this shop provides meaningful employment opportunities for individuals with special needs gives every bite a deeper sweetness. It’s proof that good business and good hearts can blend perfectly — just like their ice cream. We were a little sad to hear they’ll be closing for winter break, but it only makes us more eager for their return. The plaza has plenty of parking, though you might need a touch of patience during peak hours — a small price to pay for such a feel-good experience. First time there and I am impressed. The staff are friendly and the place is clean. I got the Full L Cake and I think it is a tad sweet, but it could just be me.

This place is an absolute gem! Beyond the delightful ice cream, the mission behind Howdy Ice Cream is truly outstanding. Their homemade ice cream boasts an array of flavors, ranging from classic strawberry to unique options like funnel cake, cookies, and coffee. What makes Howdy Ice Cream truly special is its operation, led by the incredible Howdy heroes – individuals with special needs. This initiative not only provides them with the opportunity to work but also allows them to forge new friendships while spreading scoops of joy and smiles, all contributing to making the world a better place. Stepping into Howdy Ice Cream feels like entering a warm and welcoming haven. During my visit, I had the pleasure of trying a multitude of flavors, and each one was a delightful experience. The diverse selection and the heartwarming atmosphere created by the Howdy heroes make this place more than just an ice cream shop – it's a community that radiates positivity and inclusivity.

It’s going to be closed through February of 2026. Giving it a good review because everything online looked awesome. Can’t wait to try the flavors!

Real homemade ice creams, creamy with original flavour.. compact place with photo spots inside. W true the chocolate, blueberry, orange and peach flavours. Orange was a bit too sweet..

Thank you Rod and Dana for running such a unique concept ice cream shop, we made a special order and picked it up today. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I wish there were more shops like this that valued our community with disabilities. We tried the cold brew coffee and the strawberry sherbet both were perfection.

This ice cream shop employs a lot of special needs people that do a tremendous job making amazing ice cream. My wife wanted to try a few samples and when she got to one with coconut she knew what she wanted, one scoop with nuts on top, I got to try hers and it was tasty. I went with the Dr. Pepper ice cream with chocolate chips and heath bar crumbles as a topping.......who knew Dr. Pepper ice cream would be this great. We will be back for more goodies.

Had a craving for ice cream and I am not from the area. I googled and this place had the most stars so me and my husband tried it. Customer service was a 5. The ladies were patient and let us taste the different options and answered all questions thoroughly. The ice cream was amazing. So good. If your looking for good ice cream with great customer service this is your spot!

We stopped by this place after lunch with a craving for something sweet. The employees at the counter were very pleasant and helpful. The display was colorful and inviting and the store was clean and neat. The samples for the mango and the chocolate were delicious. I got the chocolate and was impressed with the serving size. The texture and flavor were well balanced and had chocolate chips mixed in. A nice sweet treat!

We got to try this place for the first time and I'm so glad we did. My son just asked us to go here after we had dinner in the area because he saw the ice cream sign so we just decided to check it out. I had seen it before but hadn't checked it out until now. The first thing that I noticed is that this is a place that provides job opportunities for individuals with special needs. As someone with a little sister with special needs, it means a lot more to me to see inclusivity and equal opportunity in places. Not just that but even the wall art shows the importance of inclusivity of this place which was even better. The decor and vibe in general was so cute, colorful, and fun. Customer service was wonderful. Everyone was so friendly. There was a great selection of flavors for all preferences. They also had some topping options as well as waffle cones. Quality and taste of the ice cream was delicious. There's a handful of seating inside. Board games, TV, big connect 4 available for if you wanna hang out while enjoying your ice cream. There are a lot of photos on the wall of different people from the community. It was cool to see the partnership and support with various local community organizations and schools. Overall a great experience and we're happy to come back again and continue to support this local biz!

One of the best places to support Local! Howdies not only has delicious ice cream but also very kind hard working employees. Their mission is to provide a place of employment for those with special needs. What a beautiful mission! It's a small lil ice cream shop, they have I believe 12 to 18 flavors of ice cream and have the option for toppings. They offer simple toppings which include sprinkles, chocolate chips, m&ms, fudge, etc. They also have waffle cones and bowls available! I got the birthday cake which already comes with sprinkles mixed in. The ice cream has a cheesecake taste to it and the sprinkles are the perfect crunch I need in an ice cream. I got chocolate chips as my topping. In my photo is "1 Scoop" serving. Which is just perfect for me or for a kid, not too much. I was able to finish the whole bowl. Sometimes I just want a little bit of ice cream you know? If you're eating in the westgreen plaza you should definitely stop by here for dessert. It's a nice sweet little treat. If you're driving in, parking can get crazy since it shares a lot with Texas Road House. So I would suggest coming during the day or if you're already eating in the area you can just walk on over.

Lots of unique flavor options at this place! We stopped in because my stepdaughter and me were craving ice cream and my husband says "what my babies want, my babies get!" The place is cute, neon signs and even board games to play. The crew was friendly and welcoming us when we walked in. Loved their energy. I looked up the business online and saw that they make it a point to hire those with special needs. I'm on the spectrum myself so I love to see this. Five stars for the place. I will say, there was a customer who was chewing out one of the employees for his attitude. Are you serious, guy?? 0 stars for him who can't read the room. Management handled it really well! Sucks that the customer was so rude.

Our first time visiting Howdy's and we will most definitely be going back! The establishment was very clean and the staff were very polite and attentive! The ice cream was absolutely delicious! My husband had the Chocolate as All Get Out and he finished it in double time! I had the Dr. Pepper Chocolate Chip and it was AMAZING!!!waffle cones were nice and crispy! The establishment is set in an area with a lot of restaurants so this should be EVERYONE'S go to dessert destination! Howdy's we will be back soon and we will bring friends!

I can't remember the last time I was excited about homemade ice cream. Maybe it was a Maggie Moo's and West U about 100 years ago. I remember it tasting milky creamy and delicious and I was excited to be there. But I haven't really found anything that came close until my Yelper Friend Brianna took me here and I love the concept and definitely love the flavors. I've never heard or even tried of Dr Pepper chocolate chip, but one scoop in a waffle cone and oh my God hold me, baby! The inside has great lighting and the staff is super friendly. Just ask them for a glass of water if You Get thirsty while eating ice cream I'm not sure about that science but I know I do. The price is right, the concept is fire and the staff is just as sweet and adorable as the spot. Five out of five will return and while my goal might be to try all of the ice cream flavors, but my waistline may object, I do recommend the spot whether it is your typical hundred degree weather in August or slightly cooler in December. I'll start with the ice cream since that's the reason I came here. The ice cream was so good. I got the chocolate and it's made out of three types of chocolate with some chocolate shavings inside. It was very creamy. I also got the strawberry milkshake and it was very good as well. However, the waffle cup was very hard. I even asked thenstaff if it's supposed to be this hard and they said yes . I would not get the waffle again. The staff was so friendly and helpful and the atmosphere of comfortable but we didn't stay. You could even sample the ice cream before you order that's a big plus for me. I will come back here again, but I will not order the waffle.

Cute little ice cream place. Very simple, if u are just looking for strait ice cream this is the place, has a cute little instagram photo op area.. The cookies and cream waffle cone is gooood...Service is fast!!

The interior is clean with cute decor. Service is great here. There are limited ice cream flavors, and most of them are common flavors which you can get from grocery stores. I had the salted caramel, chocolate, and vanilla flavors. The salted caramel flavor wasn't salted enough. The chocolate flavor was good because of the shaved chocolate in it that added richness to the ice cream. The vanilla ice cream was just sugar. Overall there is nothing special about the ice cream.

Howdy Home-Made Ice Cream.... I had huge high hopes for Howdy, however, very disappointed. One of our group had nut allergies and thus were advised that their Ice Cream is made with a coconut base so (I'm told) that nut allergies cannot eat it. I had Salted Caramel and Butter Pecan. They both tasted alike. Really nice people but we were quite disappointed. IMHO, the flavors I ordered, Did NOT taste home-made. And we will not return.

Howdy you make everything better when you feel like crap? You come here! The thing is, I don't like chains, but this is a small Dallas chain with only 9 locations around the country. A couple are in the nicest spots in North Carolina (Cary, Raleigh, and Asheville, so glad Charlotte wasn't included), other great cities like Denver and El Paso have them too, there's also one in Dallas and one in Lubbock and one in Indianapolis, but you can't have everything. We're pretty thrilled that they decided to put one here in Katy and very happy that the servers here are 5 star angels and super super lovely, and that the ice cream tastes as good - or better - as the same homemade stuff we've had in Dallas at the "flagship" as they say (although it neither has a flag nor is a ship). And if you don't like the ice cream here, I don't give a ship.

The ice cream here is So good! You can tell it's made in house, with love! The place supports 'special needs' employment and I really admire a business that supports the community and is inclusive to all people! The space is pretty big, and very instagrammable! Perfect for hanging out with friends, family, or just a get-away from all of that. It's also near other restaurants so it's a perfect spot for dessert. Lots of parking too!

Great newer ice cream joint open in Houston just last year. Howdy Homemade ice cream helps the special community in a special way. I love the decorations and can get used to that welcoming feeling you get right when you enter. While this is a small ice cream shop, this place holds a whole Lotta heart! FYI- cappuccino crunch is awesome!

I've never been to Texas myself but I heard about this amazing place through my YouTube feed. They employ many people with special needs, which I am sure includes those of us on the spectrum. To founder Tom Landis: You have a wonderful thing going. I myself am on the autism spectrum and struggled to find employment. I have been a proud Home Depot associate for five years now, and try to advocate in my community for those who cannot. You're an inspiration to us all and I think a California franchise expansion should be considered. Don't let the negative images people paint of our state fool you. They make some of the best sorbet I've had. Pricing is $5 for one scoop and $7 for two scoops. Staff is always kind! Parking can be a little challenging at times as it is a busy strip center with tons of restaurants. I always go for the strawberry sor-bae (see what they did there ), but today they didn't have it. Instead they had pina colada. I love those flavors so I tried it. It was so good, as expected. Unfortunately they did not have it in a pint for purchase but they told me I could call ahead of time to see what they had in stock for the day. The pints are $11 I believe. You can tell that they use fresh ingredients, it makes sure a big difference! Don't worry about getting any chunks of fruit if that bothers you as their sorbet consistency is very smooth. At one point that also had a watermelon flavor, but I didn't get a chance to try it. On occasion they also have other items for sale, for example one time they had cupcakes for sale! Anyway, i thinks it's clear that I love this place. If you're in the area make sure to stop by!

I went with my mom in Summer and got 4 ice creams to go. They had no lids let alone some lids and did not let us know while ordering the pickup. The manager was especially rude and told us she is a teenager and no one can question how she runs the place. She asked us to get out. It was extremely humiliating and hurtful. We swore never to go to Howdy's again!

Howdy's has been on my list for a while and I'll definitely be back. Greeted with a smile and served delicious ice cream by such kind employees? What more do you want! Unique flavor combinations abound and I want to try them all.

Service was awesome!!! The girls was very helpful and nice. The ice cream menu is very limited so we got 2 flavors to try and I have to admit it was really good.

Today was the Grand Opening of Howdy Homemade Ice Cream located in the Orleans Seafood shopping center @ I-10/Westgreen in Katy, TX. There were festive balloons adorning the entrance with an employee at the door limiting occupancy, friendly employees indoors/outdoors greeting guests with complimentary ice cream sample cups and paper menus with ever changing items due to the crowds. So many delicious and cute flavor names available. We paid $5 for 2 ice cream scoops per cup. Our selections included: Cookie Nomster, Banana Split, and Dr Pepper with chocolate chips. There were several tables indoors and on a small patio in front of the large windows. It's really in a perfect spot, especially, after dinner and when you want to enjoy a cold treat. So glad we came out to support. I highly recommend It.

Ice cream had the texture of slow churn, yes please! And the flavors were yummy and not overpowering or super sweet. Service was great! They were nice and very friendly. Decor was very cute. It was a cross between old fashioned parlor meets bellaire. The smell of the waffle cones are enticing enough- they call you as soon as you open your car door in the parking lot!

We just moved to the area, and I'm so glad we live right by this place! The ice cream is delicious! My family and I will gladly support this business.

We were in the area having dinner and decided to stop by here for dessert. The place is clean and the decor is adorable. My daughters really thought it was cute . Walking in to the shop it's smelt so good . The Ice-cream was delicious. The staff was amazing . They were all so friendly, welcoming and very informative. We really enjoyed talking to all of them. This will definitely be one of our new places to stop at when we have a craving for some good ice cream .

What a great business. The ice cream is good and the employees are great. They employ people with special needs and that leads to happy interactions with amazing people. I'm an ice cream lover and this will be my goto spot.

Ice cream was really just OK. Nothing special. While the cashier was waiting for the point of sales machine to work (there's a lag with the machine). The cashier used my credit card to clean her French tip by sticking *my credit card* to her nail so that she can take craps out of *her* nails. Dude that's rude AF. Don't use someone else's stuff -- my credit card -- to clean your shitty nails. I hand sanitizer my credit card once I got back to my car.

I've cream was delicious. I got the s'mores with a waffle cone 10/10. The shop was fairly slow as we went to closing which made it really easy to order and hear the staff. Speaking of staff the service was great! Both workers were so nice and upbeat even though they had a pretty slow day. It was fast friendly and delicious, definitely will be coming again!

I truly went in with an open mind, staff was very nice, place was super clean. But where the business went wrong was the product.... the "ice cream" tasted like frozen gummy substance. By no means would I call anything I had in my dish creamy or delicious but overpriced, sugary, chewy, goo!

Had the cinnamon roll and was definitely good. Would say it's similar to an Amy's ice cream or another similar shop. Felt that the price was kinda high for what you get though. $4 for one scoop or $6 for two. The staff also didn't seem very happy to be there and wasn't very helpful for picking out flavors or making recommendations. Would stop by again if I'm the area but wouldn't go out of my way to come here.
