The Best Places To Eat Near The Beach In Los Angeles - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Eating a burrito after the beach is a classic Malibu activity, up there with sitting in PCH traffic or catching a sunset at The Getty Villa. Whenever the mood strikes us, we head to Howdy’s corner patio—soggy bathing suit and all. Howdy’s has a wide array of burrito options that are more modest in size than Lily’s but of higher quality. The steak burrito is the move: juicy carne asada, fluffy scrambled eggs, housemade spicy cilantro salsa, and more cheese than a supermarket dairy aisle. Enjoy it on their covered patio where you can relax in the shade and drink agua frescas." - brant cox, sylvio martins, garrett snyder, cathy park

The 15 Best Restaurants In Malibu - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"We recommend using Howdy’s as a pit stop before a day at the beach. This counter-service Mexican spot in the Malibu Country Mart has poke bowls, salads, mariscos, and other things you’d want to eat a few hundred feet from the coast. But we usually focus on their burritos. From bacon and egg to spicy mayo and lobster, Howdy’s has an array of options that are more modest in size than Lily’s, but notably higher quality. The steak burrito is the move: juicy carne asada, fluffy scrambled eggs, housemade spicy cilantro salsa, and more cheese than a dairy aisle. If you want to dine in, Howdy’s has a large covered patio where you can cool in the shade and sip agua frescas." - brant cox, sylvio martins

Had the shrimp 🍤 and lobster 🦞 tacos. Both had great flavors, and the tacos were full of seafood. Fast and great service.

Google
I have to admit, I was initially skeptical about trying Howdy’s in Malibu, expecting it to be just another spot serving Americanized Mexican food. But after finally giving it a chance, I’m happy to say I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, the food has a bit of an American twist, but it’s also absolutely delicious. Our kids devoured their meals so quickly that they asked for a second burrito, which says a lot! My wife tried the Mexican pizza and loved every bite. As for me, I went with the classic Rito, and it was nothing short of amazing—packed with flavor and perfectly satisfying. Whether you’re a local or just passing through Malibu, I highly recommend giving Howdy’s a try. It’s a fantastic spot for a casual meal that will exceed your expectations.

Google
Great ambiance dining in an open air area with live plants on the walls and glass to stop wind. Food is not cheap, a little more expensive than Santa Barbara Mexican food, but flavors were amazing. Had Horchata, 2 shrimp tacos with beans and rice, and the best burrito I ever had! Price was about $55 including tip. But considering where we were I already expected that! Cute courtyards and live music also available along with some Italian food options or coffee houses. Right...also Howdy's shares space with a Sushi menu. That is unique.

Google
Had breakfast here with my son. We split a breakfast burrito and french toast (available on weekends). Burrito was very good and the French toast delicious. It was very crowded when we went (on a Saturday around 11:45 am) and the parking lot was very full and congested. That said, the food was good and I'd go back to try other dishes or their sushi.

Google
I love stopping here after a morning hike in Malibu. Convenient location with good parking but I think there's valet starting at a certain time. The breakfast burrito is what I've eaten twice there already. I love the salsa that it comes with. Not the biggest breakfast burrito so it's not shareable if you're hungry (esp after a hike!) but it's good if you want a snack to share.

Google
I LOVE Howdy's! Delicious burritos and drinks. It is not cheap (around $18 for one large burrito) but it is super yummy. Their red salsa is also fantastic. The sushi burrito is such a unique and tasty option, though again, it is not cheap (around $22 for one). The staff is kind and Pepperdine students get a discount with their school ID which is a bonus for me.

Google
The salmon burrito is delicious but the watermelon juice was the best. Excellent spot in general with great outdoor seating. Great little spot and can’t wait to come back and try other stuff. ***Update*** I tried their seafood burrito with salmon and I added shrimp for extra. It was pretty good with the guacamole side. Highly recommend the seafood burrito!

Google
amazing food, great atmosphere 😍 i used to go to the old howdy’s at least 10 years ago before they closed—well i heard they opened up again and i had to see for myself. i used to tell people it was the best quesadilla i ever had. well it’s as good as ever and their SUSHI BURRITO is equally fire. mexican AND sushi, on god no cap. i love it here. thank you howdy for bringing this great place back. 10/10

Yelp
You like nachos? Obama likes nachos. Who doesnt like nachos? Hiw do you like them Howdy's nachos? On a lovely fall evening I wanted to watch a baseball playoff game at Sparky's Sports Bar in the Cross Creek Park. But it was closed for some reason. During the playoffs! What kind of universe is this???!! So as I was riding my bike out of the Cross Creek Park I saw Howdy's had a TV on. Went in and looked at the extensive menu. My slight objection to this modern world is that Mexican food is supposed to be inexpensive and a $20 burrito is not inexpensive. But forget it Jake this is Malibu. I ordered the Super Malibu Nachos con carne for $16.95 thinking there might be too much and I'd have to carry the leftovers home on my bike. But they came rapidamente and they were just right. I ate some Howdy's nachos and had one of those Topo Chico fizzy mineral water drinks and watched the Yankees. Excellent nachos. Hot and loaded. Nice atmosphere. If I had any friends I would tell them about it. So I'm telling you. How do you like them nachos!!?.

Yelp
Look what the cat dragged in... Now that we had such a great meal at one of its places, you can be sure -- the rest of us will come back wanting to try other things on this menu. We had actually come in for a sushi burrito but we ended up getting as per of the picture above. If you're wondering, fresh salmon, yellow tail and seared ahi that tastes like any high-quality fish from an actual sushi place. The salmon? So, so melt-in-your-mouth good! We had to throw in the salmon poke bowl (obviously), his favorite Pepperdine burrito with organic chicken, and steak tacos. Literally everything was ON POINT, no matter what you're in the mood for. Such a win! And let's not forget about the tortilla chips with salsa--amazing. We loved it so much we actually ordered a round of salsa to-go for the weekend. Great on an omelette or breakfast burrito at home and they say it will last 3 days in the fridge (if you can keep from eating all of them before then!) And if you are in the area, and want a delicious bite that is fast food-ish without actually succumbing to actual FAST FOOD, then by all means....THIS IS YOUR SPOT.

Yelp
Officially one of my favorite places in Malibu! Super casual pricey but worth every penny spend in the nice little shack. You order at the counter, get greeted warmly by the staff, they have a pretty big menu so definitely recommend checking it out online first to be ready. The salmon miso bowl was just perfection 10/10 cooked and seasoned incredibly. Poke bowl extremely fresh everything well balanced sweet and salty
google avatar

Ciara J.

Yelp
The freshest food and nicest staff. I love the miso salmon bowl and lobster sushi burrito. Must try. They have alcohol and other drinks too.
google avatar

Patricio S.

Yelp
Best spot to stop by breakfast, lunch or dinner, it doesn't matter the date. They have a lot of choices in the menu to try.
google avatar

Aisha G.

Yelp
The food was really fresh and the sauce in the burrito added a lot of flavor. If you are looking for something light and healthy then the Sushi burrito is a must try!
google avatar

Yoni N.

Yelp
Seriously great food and service. Highly recommend their hibiscus margaritas as they are light and delicious. Their key lime pie was also a must have as well as the lox sushi! Yes lox sushi can you believe it! Just wow
google avatar

Jasmine A.

Yelp
Howdys food is beyond delicious, but what makes this place special is Ian. He went out of his way to give my toddler a teddy bear when she was crying ... nobody does that anymore
google avatar

Cristalle L.

Yelp
We needed a spot for lunch with vegetarian options that was on the way to Pt Dume and stopped by this sweet beach vibes spot. Order at the counter then head over to the covered concrete seating area that provides relief from the sun and heat. I got the burrito and alternated dips of the green and red salsa. Both were delicious and even as a non-spicy eater I was able to handle the spice! They were efficient with the orders and kept everyone moving quickly. My friend ordered a bowl but it came out as a burrito and they quickly switched it up and got a bowl for her - great service. Self serve water station available if you choose to dine in.
google avatar

Rolly P.

Yelp
Favorite place ever. Ian is the coolest owner I've ever met. Sweetest person with the most delicious food
google avatar

Gohar K.

Yelp
My first time here with my cousins. What a beautiful find in Malibu. I have been in this area many times but never ate here. Fresh and delicious food is served here. I ordered the spicy salmon sushi burrito and loved it. My cousins chicken teriyaki looked amazing. She liked it a lot. Everything we ordered was flavorful and delicious. Customer service was amazing. Lots of outdoor seating. I will be back again for sure.
google avatar

Alisa K.

Yelp
Loved this place for a quick bite after a nearby hike! Everything we got was ultra clean and tasty. My steak and egg burrito was cooked perfectly and wasn't falling apart. The chilaquiles were insane - perfectly cooked eggs over the most delicious chips and sauce. Would definitely come back. Lots of yummy options to choose from and they had options for vegans too!
google avatar

Maral C.

Yelp
I was craving egg, cheese, and avocado burrito or taco! I ordered the breakfast taco and It was soft and delicious, especially with their amazing red and green salsas. Ordering to go was quick and easy. I customized my breakfast taco by removing the bacon and adding avocado, and it was fantastic! The tacos are big, so one was enough for me. Can't wait to go back! :)
google avatar

Marcella N.

Yelp
Delicious sashimi plate! Loved this quick stop. Service was fast and the fish is super fresh. Reasonable prices as well. They also have happy hour food specials and drinks.

Kim M.

Yelp
This burrito was perfection, so fresh, perfect size, the salsa was amazing and homemade and the staff were friendly. This was such a nice treat. Can't wait to come again!!!
google avatar

Leigh S.

Yelp
So sad as I used to love this place not only were they rude but they added salad and extras that I asked not to include into my food. Additionally the shrimp bowl only had 3 shrimp in it and 4 zucchini for an insane up charge it was laughable- my friends couldn't believe it. I let them know I was allergic to gluten and dairy and they were cooking cheese next to all my food without even mentioning it. Was up all night with food poisoning and am still sick this morning. On top of being rude and making me wait 45 minutes to redo my food because they got a "big important order". Never again.
google avatar

Bakri F.

Yelp
Tiniest burritos on the planet don't come here if you are hungry. Unless you won the lottery and plan on spending all your winnings at one restaurant. In all seriousness, I understand organic foods and quality ingredients cost more but I've literally had taquitos thicker than the burritos here. No joke, look at some of these pictures and ask yourself if you'd pay 20-40 bucks for a burrito, not even three fingers thick.
google avatar

Alex M.

Yelp
Perfect casual spot for a delicious lunch! I tried the lobster burrito which was fantastic, and grabbed a watermelon agua fresca as well (perfect, not too sweet). Highly recommend if you're in the area
google avatar

Kristi N.

Yelp
We were here on a rather cool day, the staff jumped and quickly turned on heaters. We were amazed how quickly the patio warmed up. We sat at a table to peruse the menu before ordering at the counter; the owner cheerfully took our order at the table. We were prompted to pay and tip before getting our order, which is great for us, saves time and no waiting for the check. Amazing. The staff was eager to please and friendly. The food was quickly delivered and delicious. Chicken taco, steak taco, and hubby had Sea Bass, everything was delicious and prices were surprisingly low, especially for Malibu. The sushi looked fresh, not too crowded, and boy, were those Margaritas looking tempting. Thumbs up for sure.

Yelp
I randomly found this place walking around Malibu, when I visited for the first time. I got in line, not knowing what to expect. The employee guided me through the menu and highly recommended their lobster sushi burrito. I ordered it along with one of their fresh juices. The burrito was incredible, I've never found anything comparable. Every time I'm in Malibu, I stop by to eat there. I brought many friends and all loved it. Their guac and chips is also really good, the guac is very good and the chips are actually really stood out. I recently had to stop eating gluten, and they were able to accommodate. Luckily, it's not pre-marinated, so they made me a lobster sushi burrito without the sauce, it still tastes great! They also gave me tamari on the side.
google avatar

Ashley R.

Yelp
So I seriously wanted to try everything on the menu, especially looking at the yelp pictures lol. The all American burrito was good, personally I needed to add salt on the eggs, but it was still deliciously enjoyable. You're in Malibu so the ambiance, view, weather is beautiful! All the employees were super nice. Definitely have nothing to say but great things about this place :)
google avatar

Kevin B.

Yelp
Damn, This Place is really FIRE. I went for the Lobster Burrito, and my girl went for the Pepperdine Burrito. I also bought me one of those fruit cocktail drinks, since she would be driving us back home lol. She does not drink very much. Place has a nice outdoor beach setting. Lobster burrito is freshly made with lobster from the sea. Lots of different flavors and sauces. Portions are huge here too. Awesome menu options. People that work here are awesome. We will be back for more.
google avatar

Celine K.

Yelp
fish is very fresh and service is very fast. the burrito was my favorite out of the two. very simply yet great quality. i would love to come back and try their sushi restaurant next door.
google avatar

Ricardo M.

Yelp
Customer service was great. I saw a chef talk to a customer welcoming him back to the restaurant. That is why I came in and ordered some breakfast. The cashier was very nice too. The food was so tasteless. I couldn't believe it but I looked around and I saw people picking at their food. Believe me, I ate everything because the portions were so small. I left there hungry and that's so disappointing after eating eggs, avocado, beans, rice, and tortillas. I am 100% sure but won't return.
google avatar

Rafee A.

Yelp
Silvana customer service is outstanding. These days you don't get that type of customer care. We had a small issue, he aloud me to explain and totally listened to what I had to say but bottom line he handled it like a professional. The food was very good and because of the service and food we will always come here for sure. Great place on a warm day to chill Outside and eat here.
google avatar

Richard P.

Yelp
We love Killer Shrimp, including the location, the service, and definitely the food!!
google avatar

Kay J.

Yelp
I love Howdy's fresh dishes! Everything is always delicious, refreshing, and the poke bowls are the prettiest! I love their ceviche and poke bowls the most, but the burritos are excellent too. The staff is always nice and the service is good. I love the relaxed outdoor seating, such a nice chill place to have brunch when in Malibu. The prices are fair I'd say. It does get packed here on weekends, but worth it. The parking lot can get crazy too since it's at an outdoor mall in Malibu so there are a lot of people trying to go to all the stores and restaurants there. If you haven't already, recommend you stop by here for brunch!
google avatar

Karla M.

Yelp
Tried this place after a beach day in Malibu. We ordered a few things to try out and everything was pretty good. The food is shareable sizes. Prices are a little bit high but, I guess it's Malibu. The food was authentic which I liked. The service was great, I believe it was the manager that came to our table and asked how everything was. The only downside was the alcohol drinks were very weak. Which we pointed out to him. They were being really stingy with the alcohol. I pretty much paid $16 for juice. But other than that it was a good experience.
google avatar

Leena S.

Yelp
While driving down the Pacific Coast Highway, we were looking for a quick stop for brunch in Malibu. Most of the restaurants on the PCH with views had long waits and crowds. So, we turned down a side street and found ourselves in an outdoor mall and stumbled upon Howdy's Sonrisa Cafe. We both ordered the Breakfast bowls. They were made fresh, served hot and more food than I could eat. The service was also wonderfully friendly and our food came out very quick. The indoor/outdoor dining area has a great vibe with succulents growing up the side of the wall. There is plenty of parking in the lots and also EV chargers located right in front of Howdy's as well as near the Whole Foods.
google avatar

Genezaret C.

Yelp
This place had great outdoor seating and the menu items all sounded so appetizing. The staff was friendly and saved my purse when I accidentally left it on my chair. The shrimp burrito tasted super fresh and delicious. I appreciated that the burrito came with 2 salsas- red and green. They had a variety of ceviche and it was a concoction of flavors. I'll definitely be returning, I hope to try another ceviche next time!

Yelp
Howdy from the Bu' Once Twice Three times a lady... And let me tell you, 3x just isn't enough! That's right, I've been to Howdy's in Malibu 3 times now, and I simply cannot get enough. The first time I went Big and I DEFINITELY didn't want to go home. Ya, I had their World Best Lobster Burrito for $29.95 and I certainly did not regret it. Dropping 30+ bucks for a burrito in Malibu stuffed with Lobster is chump change compared to those dining across the way at Malibu's famous NoBu. The second visit I decided to test their tacos and I'll be damned if I didn't fall in love all over again. A steak taco, a lobster taco, rice, beans, salsa and limes all on one plate... Someone please call 9-1-1!!! My only hope is that there is an AED nearby to bring me back to life cause my heart just skipped a beat and my blood pressure is quickly rising due to my extreme LOVE for the tacos that I was about to tilt my head to that particular day. Visit numero 3 was a repeat of visit number 2 and it proved that not only is this place consistent on quality, on taste and on presentation, but the service has been top notch every time I roll through. Located in the heart of downtown Malibu, Howdy's is serving up some damn good Mexican food that will make you want to keep coming back from more. The only question remaining for me... What am I getting on my next visit, aka experience #4 Stayed tuned Malibu. --------------------------------------- !!!Trivia time. Trivia time. Trivia time. Trivia time!!! On visit #4, will I order... A) Steak & Lobster Taco Combo B) Quinoa Protein Bowl C) The Pepperdine Burrito D) Their $16.95 Margarita with a $4.95 side of bacon... Suggestions? Recommendations?? Comments??? I'll be posting results in the very near future.

Michele M.

Yelp
Very fresh and delicious and excellent service! I ordered the shiso luna roll. It has halibut and a nice kick. Here on travel and will return.

Yelp
I just called to find out the general manager's name, since Benji isn't there anymore and the woman who answered the phone was VERY rude, she insisted on asking my business, and then when I started to tell her who we are she hung up on me. What kind of service is that? This was on Thursday, 2/29/24 at 4:30pm.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing local spot with great infusions! So many great seafood options. Nice outdoor patio seating in a beautiful community. Service is great and timely.

Yelp
Really good foods Yum!! My go to is the spicy tuna burrito with a lemonade ginger turmeric Fresca !!
google avatar

Tristen C.

Yelp
Amazing friendly employees! They are a vibe in their own and the know what to recommend. I got a halibut burrito, bean rice cheese burrito, Pepperdine burrito and shrimp burrito all amazing tastes of homemade recipes. I would go definitely come back
google avatar

Negin R.

Yelp
Honestly, greatest quality poke I've had. The flavor is excellent, it's super fresh, and even the delivery dishes (which most restaurants don't even bother to make presentable) look absolutely picturesque. Amazing customer service, friendly and welcoming staff. They are located in a plaza so you don't have to worry about parking.
google avatar

Cassidy B.

Yelp
Stopped in yesterday after a hike in Malibu because my friend really wanted to try a sushi burrito. I, not being a huge seafood fan, got the Pepperdine burrito with steak and oh my goodness was it amazing. I also got the watermelon agua fresca and it was fresh and yummy! My friend enjoyed her lobster sushi burrito & hibiscus agua fresca. The food was prepared fresh and pretty quickly, and was even brought to our table with a smile! The dining area was clean & had a good vibe. Will definitely be returning in the future!

Milo J.

Yelp
The food is absolutely amazing, along with the service. Pato, Sylvano and their staff are absolutely amazing and their wide range of variety on the menu is what keeps me and my team always coming back. Would recommend to a friend 10/10.
google avatar

Kelli L.

Yelp
I just tried this place for the first time while I was in Malibu. This is my new favorite restaurant! I ordered their crab sushi burrito and their shrimp tempura sushi burrito. I was pleasantly surprised that they had a lot of crab pieces in it. If you like a little spice they have a spicy sauce on it that complement well with the crab. Their shrimp tempura burrito is my favorite! They had plenty of shrimp tempura pieces and avocado. It's also filled with rice, imitation crab, and lettuce. The shrimp tempura was super crispy and flavorful. I'm definitely going to order this one again! The only thing is that their food is pricey. But other than that this place is perfect and I would highly recommend this place. Note: They open Mon-Thur 9am-6pm, Fri-Sat 9am-8pm and Sun from 9am-6pm. They also have plenty of parking spaces.

Jo B.

Yelp
Food was great, service was excellent, and the environment is wonderful a Small patio area that has plants all over the wall and a mix of a modern touch as well!

Vidal F.

Yelp
Great healthy food good variety of choices the staff is very friendly and welcoming good choice..
google avatar

Celine C.

Yelp
I totally love Howdy's! The breakfast burrito is so good! I can't wait to try their sushi place next door. The service is great.

Ravit K.

Yelp
Not so great. Poke bowl was busy and not good. Wouldn't recommend this place sorry. Service was ok. If you looking for good food this is not the place
google avatar

Mark S.

Yelp
We wanted to find a place in Malibu and Howdy's came up as a recommendation. Good location with a decent amount of seating area and the food was good. We all had burrito's - 2 Pepperdine steak, Choizo #1 and the Spicy Tuna. The burrito's were medium size and with 4 Ice Teas it was $80+ for the four of us. Service was very good and the food came out fresh and hot. We will be back to try other items...

Yelp
Food: B, The tofu was cold and the rice and grilled veggies were very bland in the Vegan Burrito. Service: B, Cashier greeted us and was pleasant. Food preparation took along time. Cleanliness: A, Patio was clean. Ambiance: B Value: C, Food portions are very small for the price.

Yelp
cute spot in a shopping center across from the beach and close to the Malibu pier area. Loved coming here after doing some hiking in the Malibu mountains less than 10 minutes away. Plenty of free parking in a lot. Outdoor seating available. Pay and order at the counter and then sit and they'll bring your food out. Food was tasty & fresh. We shared 1 poke bowl & sweet potato fries and were pretty full. prices were not accurate on the website and the Yelp had old pricing so that was surprising after arriving. Staff was very nice and friendly :) overall I recommend this place for some yummy food but nothing too fancy or super expensive like the rest of Malibu (but still in Malibu price range of things)

Yelp
We stopped by Sunday. We met the owner and his family. Never have I experienced such great hospitality. Everything on the menu looks great. I would not hesitate to come back.

Terra Jo W.

Yelp
OK, wow! Not only is the breakfast amazing (i am very particular about Chilaquiles), but they absolutely nail everything! I can't believe how amazing the guacamole is. It's probably my favorite in all of Los Angeles. My three year old son is also a fan of the quesadilla and bean/cheese burrito. Which if you know, is a miracle in and of its own. I recently ventured out of my normal order and I can confidently attest that the sashimi bowl is next level. I wish I could give 20 stars! The staff is accommodating and the environment is perfect for those with kids! Such a special place!
