"I also miss Hoy Wong and Hop Shing restaurants, which were part of Chinatown for over 50 years." - Cathy Erway

"Hoy Wong, a 42-year-old Cantonese restaurant, closed in mid-February. It was one of the old timers that lined lower Mott Street. The decline in visitors was gradual due to gentrification, labor costs, and cheap prices. The fear of a then-remote disease had emptied the streets visibly." - Robert Sietsema

"Then I walked around the corner onto Mott Street and saw the shuttered storefront of the usually bustling Hoy Wong, one of Chinatown's oldest restaurants. Normally the window is filled with racks of roast duck, soy sauce chicken, and roast pork that make my mouth water and distract me from the dilapidated façade of the 100-plus-year old building. Hoy Wong was the real thing: a throwback to old Chinatown, part of the bedrock of restaurants and shops on which the Chinese community depends. It was one of my go-to spots for sandpot chicken or take-out roast pork. I loved the old-world atmosphere where customers were never rushed and the food was authentic and consistently delicious. Sarah Crowder" - Grace Young

"The 42-year-old Chinatown institution Hoy Wong has closed its doors. A handwritten sign on the restaurant’s door explained that the lease had expired and the owners decided to retire instead of re-signing." - Erika Adams

Best place for Peking Duck ! We have been coming here for at least 20 years. Small restaurant with good ambiance. Food and drinks are amazing. If you want GOOD Chinese food, with none of the fancy stuff, look no further.

Bought 1/2 roast duck today to take home. Got lots of bones and NO breast meat at all. Not a honest way of doing business. Beware. Ask them to show you the chopped takeaway. Duck not that nice. Had betters. Looks like changed of ownership. Different shop front from previous photos.

Hoy Wong is a great find. It's a lesser known Cantonese diner with huge menu and really good food. The prices are very reasonable, and the staff are much friendlier than some of the other old-school Chinatown spots. Went here for lunch today, and had a great time. Helpful hint: Hoy Wong has a nice variety of window ducks, chicken, and pork... and often still has inventory during the holiday rush.e

3.19.18 - quick Chinatown Cantonese BBQ style lunch. Fast service, balanced flavors, fluffy rice, and english speaking. The restaurant has a lot of non-chinese customers flowing in firbtske out or sit down. Better than I expected.

I know that there several more fancy-fusion-cool asian restaurants but for me this is one of the best places in town. The roast duck is amazing but also any other dish has its own identity. A must for any Chinatown old school fan.

Amazing staff. Amazing food. Amazing price. Will definitely come back for more when I'm back in new York Chinatown. Peking duck was delicious. The BBQ pork rice was perfect, highly recommend!

Chinese restaurant in China Town serving a variety of noodles, rice and Pekin Duck. They offer complimentary tea. We ordered half Pekin Duck, fried rice, noodles and dumplings, all for 69$. Good service and nice owners.
