The Holiday Gift Guide for New Orleans Food Lovers | Eater New Orleans

"The beloved local sweet treat made a celebrated return in late 2022; a box of a dozen mix-and-match pies — now including the recently returned blueberry and sweet potato flavors — makes an excellent gift for New Orleanians who’ve moved away or friends in town who don’t want to hunt down favorite flavors." - Clair Lorell

Hubig’s Pies Hiring Post Sparks Fresh Hope for Return of Famed Hand Pies - Eater New Orleans

"Ever since a fire destroyed the Dauphine Street factory for Hubig’s Pies, the maker of New Orleans’s beloved fried and filled pastry has taken residents on a decade-long emotional rollercoaster. Hubig’s devotees are on another high at the moment, after a Reddit user spotted a Hubig’s executive’s Facebook post about hiring, indicating production was imminent." - Clair Lorell

Having grown up with Hubig Pies I have developed a great fondness for them. Whether Lemon, chocolate, berry, coconut or the other flavors I find my favorite is the one I am enjoying at the moment. I am thrilled they have returned after the fire that decimated the old plant and hope they continue making their wonderful pies forever.

I made my first order of a dozen of their pies and couldn't be happier! Not only were the pies delicious, but their customer service was top tier! I had a problem with my order when in arrived, so I contacted Hubig's and they were very friendly and helpful. They fixed the issue right away and were a joy. I will DEFINITELY order from them again soon!!

These pies used to be so good. Now it’s just a sad excuse to try to revamp such a great name. First of all the shelf life of the new pies are way to short. Second. It’s too much crust. Not enough pie. The apple filling is too thick and nearly a jelly or a paste not a pie filling consistency. The lemon isn’t nearly as bad but it too is too much crust. Third is the consistency of the crust. It is too hard. Even after placing in the microwave still there is no way I can enjoy this brick made hand pie. Forth. The glaze used to be thicker it is almost like sugar water on them now. This means more flake and fall off and the pies become even more less enjoyable. I honestly hope the HUGIB’S can correct these issues that will be the demise of there brand. Many many people agree and have more issues that need to be addressed because you can’t rely of the nostalgia to sell a bad product.

Wonderful people. We were in NOLA for Dr. visit at Ochsner Transplant. My wife and her family are from LA and love Hubigs so I stopped by their home base to buy some for the wife and buy a bunch for the family up north where they aren't available right now. Everyone was so kind and excited to help. And, although they do not offer retail sales at the site, they were generous to offer a couple complimentary pies and refused to take my money. We were only going to buy a dozen to ship out, but after eating one of these wonderful pies and experiencing g a bit of nostalgic...AND it being the perfect density, bursting with filling, and so so fresh, we ended up buying two dozen to have sent to the family. Okay, we kept a few extra. But the gentleman, whom I assume was the owner, guaranteed us safe and expedient shipping that we would not get if we bought from a retailer. After a very long drive to NOLA and not looking forward to the long drive home, these folks made our day and treated me like family. I can not thank them enough! I would have taken a photo of the glorious creation, but I ate it too fast.

Recently, we visited Nola and were excited to find some pies in a convenience store. We used to get them before the fire whenever we visited from New York. So we bought a dozen to bring back home. They were as good as we remembered! After eating them all, we ordered a box to be shipped, including the seasonal cherry pie. Yummy! When we called their customer service with some questions about freezing and shipping time, the person on the phone was very helpful and courteous. Can you give Marc a raise? Now we are about to order some more. How am I ever going to get on this diet?!!

Was excited to finally find pies in my neighborhood. To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement. The crust is thick and hard. And not tasty at all. Glaze? Where? The lemon filling was bland and could have been any flavor it was so tasteless. At almost 3 bucks each, I definitely won't buy another one (to make sure I didn't somehow get a dud). I assume y'all changed the recipe or something because this definitely wasn't the old Hubig pie.

They are perfect summer weather desserts. Feeling like pie, don’t turn on the oven in NewOrleans for a frozen pie or a homemade pie.Keep the kitchen cool and keep the wife less busy. It’s a win folks.

Hubigs is my favorite snack, so I was excited when I heard they made a custard king cake. However, it was not what I was expecting. It’s basically a Walmart king cake with a small amount of custard that was just ok. Not bad but not something I would go out of my way for either. Probably would not buy again, stick to the individual custards which are delish and a 5 star. 3/5 rated for dry king cake with sugar.
