"Ever since a fire destroyed the Dauphine Street factory for Hubig’s Pies, the maker of New Orleans’s beloved fried and filled pastry has taken residents on a decade-long emotional rollercoaster. Hubig’s devotees are on another high at the moment, after a Reddit user spotted a Hubig’s executive’s Facebook post about hiring, indicating production was imminent." - Clair Lorell

So it's Carnival Season right! Time for King Cake right! I live in Texas so depending on timing of Fat Tuesday I either bring one back from NOLA for my office family OR order from Caluda's King Cake or Randazzo's King Cakes and have it shipped for my Birthday #JanuaryBabiesRock🥳🎂 THIS year I decided to support a new venture. I decided to order from Hubig's Pies 😭 I read the scathing reviews BUT only AFTER I had placed my order. I held out hope that they were listening and were improving daily...🙏🏾 What I received was heartbreaking💔 and made me thankful that my in person office meeting had been cancelled. I would have melted thru the floor in sheer embarrassment. One box was slightly damaged and the icing and sugar was all melted - likely UPS fault.🤷🏾‍♀️ Cream cheese filled had zero, nada, zilch...not a squeeze 🙅🏾‍♀️of cream cheese The whole thing DRY as the desert sands 🥛🥛🥛🥛 The moment I started cutting I knew there was a problem. I had to hold the opposite side and 🪚 By the time I made it back to my desk in my home office the slice was getting crispy and had a hint of staleness to it. While on the phone with a colleague she could hear me tapping a fork full on the plate. A quick spin in the microwave made no 🙅🏾‍♀️difference. For now they are stashed in the bottom shelf of my spare fridge in the garage. I don't have the strength to throw $$$$ in the garbage just yet. Thinking maybe I could make a Mardi Gras Bread Pudding with it 🤔 I suggest you all go down to the River front and throw the recipe you got from somebody's fake MawMaw in the Mississippi then go to your room and think about what you have done 🤬 And do something about them hand pies too.

Hubigs is my favorite snack, so I was excited when I heard they made a custard king cake. However, it was not what I was expecting. It’s basically a Walmart king cake with a small amount of custard that was just ok. Not bad but not something I would go out of my way for either. Probably would not buy again, stick to the individual custards which are delish and a 5 star. 3/5 rated for dry king cake with sugar.

Having grown up with Hubig Pies I have developed a great fondness for them. Whether Lemon, chocolate, berry, coconut or the other flavors I find my favorite is the one I am enjoying at the moment. I am thrilled they have returned after the fire that decimated the old plant and hope they continue making their wonderful pies forever.

Purchased a Cream Filled King Cake and I may as well as saved my money and purchased a regular King Cake ! It definitely wasn't filled, so I sliced the top portion off just under the icing to try and locate any filling and discovered 4 nickel size dabs of cream cheese ! This is a joke, you have got to be kidding me ! Really !! Filled should mean FILLED !! VERY Disappointed in Hubigs, I expected much more from them. I feel that I wasted my money. Very dissatisfied, R. Crappel.

These pies used to be so good. Now it’s just a sad excuse to try to revamp such a great name. First of all the shelf life of the new pies are way to short. Second. It’s too much crust. Not enough pie. The apple filling is too thick and nearly a jelly or a paste not a pie filling consistency. The lemon isn’t nearly as bad but it too is too much crust. Third is the consistency of the crust. It is too hard. Even after placing in the microwave still there is no way I can enjoy this brick made hand pie. Forth. The glaze used to be thicker it is almost like sugar water on them now. This means more flake and fall off and the pies become even more less enjoyable. I honestly hope the HUGIB’S can correct these issues that will be the demise of there brand. Many many people agree and have more issues that need to be addressed because you can’t rely of the nostalgia to sell a bad product.

Born and raised in Nola and was brought up eating the pies. Love the pies. Tried the King Cake filled with cream cheese that I bought at Rouses. I found the king cake lacks cinnamon and there was very little cream cheese. Stick to the pies.

The Sweet Potato, Coconut and Apple are so good, this is a 5-star review. I originally gave them four stars, but that is too low. The other flavors are good, but in need of a thicker (blueberry, peach) filling or STRONGER flavor (pineapple, lemon). I originally wrote "better" which is inaccurate, because they're good. Chocolate does not work for me because it is too sweet and overwhelming like pudding. Some may love that, and it may be good very cold, as opposed to room temp or warmer. Sweet Potato and Coconut are sublime. Perfect. Here is a tip for shipping customers: Cling wrap pies in their wrappers, two at a time, then wrap in foil and freeze 10, put 1 in the fridge, and eat 1 on arrival, at room temperature. Then, eat one per day or every other day (or whenever if you really like stretching it out), taking one from the freezer to the fridge every time you eat one (if you eat one daily). Maximize freshness. And before you eat the cold ones from the fridge: Air fry on a piece of parchment at 325 F for 8 minutes... plate and cut in half... 8 excellent, warm, crispy bites. You're welcome.
