Our server was Miss Debbie and she was so amazing. This was our 1st time here and it wont be our last. The food was delicious the service was out of this world excellent The donuts when you come in just screams eat 1 of each. Highly recommend.

This Huck Finn has been here forever. I've been coming to this Huck Finn since I was a baby, my mom would come to his Huck Finn, and my grandparents would come here too. There's not many choices left in the city for diner-type food but Huck Finn checks all the boxes. The prices are reasonable, the restaurant is always clean, and there is ample parking. You really feel like you're sitting in a Chicago staple coming here for an early breakfast or a late night meal. I came here most recently for the donuts, which are delicious. I get a dozen to bring to my grandma when I come see her in the city. They also have large donuts, like 12 inches in diameter, meant to cut and divide up! It can get super busy during weekends. If you're going to come here, come super early for breakfast, or come later on in the day past the rush.

1st time visiting and I'm looking forward to returning. Felt like home with the delicious aroma and buzzing energy around the place. The Belgium Waffles are AMAZING! Surely going back for those. Also enjoyed a veggie skillet with substituted cheese for feta and added bacon. The meal was hot, fresh, tasty, and worth recommending. My partner enjoyed a veggie omelet with crispy hashbrowns.

The food here was good. The service wasn't the best. Our server was very slow, and her face showed she didn't want to be there. She took care of others and only came to us when we asked for her to order and request more coffee and water. We'd also have to wait for her while she took care of others. Idk. She didn't seem attentive for us. Maybe she had a bad day. She had an attitude when 2 of my family members asked for their food to be reheated when they left to pick up their grandkid. Whatever the case, this wasn't a good experience. We won't be going back.

This was my first visit, and I’m already excited to go back! The place had such a cozy vibe with the smell of fresh food and lively energy all around. The Belgian waffles? Absolutely AMAZING—definitely going back for those. I also had a veggie skillet, swapped the cheese for feta, and added bacon, and it was hot, fresh, and so tasty. My partner loved their veggie omelet with perfectly crispy hashbrowns. Highly recommend this spot!

Sunday in Bridgeport at lunch and Huck Finn sounded like the perfect diner. My hot meatloaf sandwich was generous. Plus, they sell donuts!!

Huck Finn is a staple in the McKinley park neighborhood. This is comfort breakfast food. When I walked in on a Saturday morning at 11am, it was packed! I loved seeing an old establishment as busy and bustling as Huck Finn. I came with my two friends and we all ordered different things. My friend ordered an omelet. And my other friend ordered the Becky thatcher meal. I also ordered an omelet but a different one from my friend. We also ordered two baked goods, a Boston crème and cinnamon roll. For the Boston crème, personally I really enjoyed Dunkin' Donuts version so huck Finn came in second place for their version. I would say that the cinnamon roll was pretty tasty! It was flavorful without being too sweet! Our food came out in a timely manner and our waitress set us up without us asking for anything more. The jams, syrup, and butter were all ready to go! Our omelets were cooked to perfection. The hashbrown was so crunchy! We would def come back in the future. It came out to be $25 per person with tip.

Like Golden Nugget with amazing donuts. You can eat here 24/7, which is how I found out about it. About 20 years ago, while working 3-11, I met someone working the same hours and we went on a low key date after work. The bar she recommended was closing so we only got one drink and I had no clue where we could go from there. She suggested HF as an all night place, so we stopped in, had some food and coffee. I've been back many times since then because HF is the only place in Chicago that serves legit chicken fried steak like you'll get in Texas or New Mexico. Several years ago I read an article in Time Out with rankings of Chicago donut places and I was surprised to see HF won. So I tried one of their cinnamon rolls and took home one of their crazy huge donuts. Time Out was right, both were delicious. So next time you want donuts, stop in at Huck's instead of Dunkin or Stan's. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

Solid neighborhood diner. We stopped in for weekday brunch, there was no wait. We shared the Mexican omelette, Patty melt, and cinnamon roll French toast. The cinnamon roll French toast was great, our favorite dish. Nice and rich, which yummy crispy parts. The Mexican omelet was also good. The patty melt and the side of pancakes weren't great and I wouldn't order them again. We've had the donuts before and some are better than others. The carrot cake was pretty good, not too sweet. Overall, we'd definitely go back for the cinnamon French toast and omelette. I'm interested in trying a few other dishes as well.

The service is terrible and the staff stare at you like you're going to steal, the food was ok nothing special and our soup was salty but definitely overpriced, my waitress was a white old lady and she seemed racist and like she hated to wait on us and rushed our meal she brought out our check and asked us if we needed a box before we were even half way through our meal. The staff and waitresses talk about customers in front of other customers out loud so rude and unprofessional. Will never be coming back. The whole atmosphere of the restaurant is unwelcoming.

I liked the ambience of this place--classic diner vibes. My group of 4 waited for roughly 15 minutes before getting seated on a Sunday afternoon, and from then on the service was quick and friendly. I ordered the Monte Cristo sandwich, which was a warm ham and cheese sandwich on french toast bread. The bread was soggier and the sandwich was saltier than I would've liked, but otherwise it was not bad. It was quite dense--packed with meat and cheese--and I was struggling to finish by the end. Dipping it in the syrup made for a rich sweet and savory combo, though that flavor got too heavy pretty quick. The fresh side salad was a welcomed addition. Overall, I think this is a solid diner in Chicago with a friendly atmosphere that's perfect for groups and fairly priced food. Though I was not the biggest fan of the food, I also acknowledge I'm biased because I don't particularly love diner-style food. Ordered take out. The food was ok. We had a monte cristo sandwich, turkey club and cinnamon roll French toast. The monte cristo was just ok. The ham inside was great, but the sandwich itself wasn't fully built and was made basically like a grilled cheese on French toast bread. The turkey club was amazing ans the cinnamon roll French toast was good, but could have used more bites with that cinnamon sugar. The fries were ok but would have been better if the fryer grease didn't need to be changed. I'd definitely go back and try it again. I was told to go there for the donuts and did not. I wish I had more time. Next time I want to try the Alaska sized donut with my friends. Looks like a cute place. I'd definitely try dining in also. The customer service was great!

Nice old-school diner. The food was really good. I had today's special which for Thursday was country fried steak, mashed potatoes, vegetable. It came with a soup and some rolls as well as a dessert. Excellent value for your money.

Wrapped up my son's birthday weekend taking him here and it was a hit! I've been at another location but this one was amazing !!! The waitress, staff and vibe was pleasant and relaxed! Food and service was fast and customers so engaging and loving! I'll definitely be back !!!

Is this gourmet cuisine? No. Is the service fantastic? It's alright. BUT this is the perfect place to go when you're hungover and just hungry for some classic diner style food. I ordered the patty melt and my fiancé ordered the turkey club sandwich. Both of these came with a cup of some sort of soup - skip the soup if it's a weird cream based one. It's just okay and won't help your stomach if you're hungover; tide yourself over with the warm bread (fantastic) and wait for your main meal. My patty melt was as greasy as it was delicious. The fries weren't homemade, but they did the job. There are really no frills here, but for a classic diner breakfast/lunch, you can't go wrong if you don't set your hopes too high.

Food wait was so low like less than ten minutes for a order of two chicken noodle soups and one chicken breast a burger with a side of fries and a salad that much in under ten minutes e plus it's fresh and tastes amazing the looks where country style diners the service great we got the food fast and the kitchen is fast as heck 5 stars definitely should come here

Oh my goodness!! What a great place to grab brunch. I came in right before the snow came in and wow. I loved our server, loved the food, loved the cute diners vibe breakfast place. I don't really understand the negative reviews from this place because of how much I enjoyed my time here. The soup was delicious, breakfast portions were HUGE, and waffle was a great dessert to have. The ONLY downside was that it took forever at the end to be noticed so we could pay the bill and when our server left, the new server never came to refill our coffee.

This place seems to have gone downhill. Stopped in recently for a meal and not only was bread oddly damp on one side, there was hair in my food. I went to tell the cashier and he rudely said where's your server? I said I don't know that's why I'm telling you. He should've apologized and said he'd find the server, but didn't. Staff are rude, lazy and the place was dirty. But mostly it's always dead when it used to be busy all the time. Now I know why I stayed away and will never return. Eat at your own risk.

36 years later I am here to leave a review. The huck finn now is not what I grew up eating. Does huck finn still have it? Yes, for most dishes yes. We all know we ordered the Becky thatcher w/a side of hash browns and some sort of buttered toast. This was a south side staple. And still is too most. Although, lately the pancakes have not been meeting the standards from 2 decades ago. Over all, this is a breakfast spot with dinner and lunch options around the clock. We all loved the bland chicken noodle soup when we were sick accompanied by a biscuit and crackers. Huck Finn is just huck Finn. Good skillets, great American omelettes and a basic cup of joe. The triple decker sandwiches are another American style classic. The country fried chicken steak another must. Biscuits and gravy tasted better but still a good order. And let's not forget the old school liver and onions. I definitely miss the 24hour status(pre-covid). There are so many brunch spots and breakfast places in Chicago. But huck Finn will always remain the American classic breakfast place.

I ordered the Turkey club, cream of chicken soup. The soup was very salty so the waitress gave me a salad. As I was eating my salad, I almost swallowed a piece of plastic. Yes, plastic was in my salad. The manager came to my table and ask if I wanted something else and I said just remove it from my bill. So he TOOK the turkey club from the table also. If I had been white, he would have accommodated me more. Yep, that's what I said. I've seen it before. I didn't put the damn plastic in my food, but he definitely failed to accommodate an unhappy customer! Shame on you huck Finn! I've been here often, but today was a very bad experience!

This place was packed on a Saturday morning. I ordered the Chorizo Skillet with over medium eggs, and my friend ordered burger with fries + chicken noodle soup. The skillet was a little underwhelming for me. I had ordered this same skillet in the past and it was delicious! But today the skillet lacked in flavor. Majority of what I was tasting was plain potato. Pancakes were very nice though. They had a nice sweet, buttery and soft taste which I absolutely love. The only complaint is the skillet not being very good and the server forgot to bring our chicken noodle soup, but she was very nice and apologetic about it once we reminded her.

I've been to different Huck Finn locations but this was my first time dining at the Archer restaurant. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. The food is fine - big portions, affordable pricing but average taste. It does the job as far as a breakfast and lunch spot. I'll be back

I don't like this place. Why?...The fillings! ...I am Big Breakfast Place Fan but this no my place . I drive many times by. Today I stop first time. Open 24/7 big parking lot. Cold Monday morning.what I need is Food . Good Tasty Warm Food. ...I order food ,choppedSteak ... and Was not good. Hash browns/chunky big potatoes was cold ,eggs was still row, and Steak was ...Strange. .... Look and taste...strange.Medium but taste and look like was frozen and still need cook .The Taste was bland,nothing, not tast at all.Zero. Null ... I don't finish. I left Half . I hope I will be ok. Even coffee was cold. Even English Muffin was ...not my way to be. I skip the donut. I don't like complain , I am positive person,always looking for the bright side. Normally I bookmark place were I eat ...and if is good enough I will live Good/Positive commends...but not this time. I will not return. I will drive by.... P.S. only good thing was ...Beautiful Waitress over the counter. Good looking,black long hair ,red lipstick. Very beautiful . Attractive. Even in early Monday Morning! Nice & Bright !..alone I will give her 5 stars and engagement ring!...I have Nice filling abut her. ...But this is not what I come to breakfast place around 6.00 am in Cold Chicago Monday. I come to eat Steak... nice juice tasty Steak and eggs. ...warm coffee. And crispy English Muffin with jelly. And fill good! I wish She be working in different place , with good tasty Steak and eggs. Is everything about...the fillings. ;) I will think about "red lipstick" today, and not to much about Steak. Tomorrow is another day,...another Good looking Steak. ...I hope. Have a Nice Day!

a chicago classic! an all american diner that is family friendly and highlights the best meal of the day-- post breakfast sweet treat!

I went in there with a couple of friends, all from the food service industry( servers, cooks). I asked the server a simple question about whether the eggs were cooked in oil or butter as I have a dairy allergy but can still have eggs. The server was a bit confused, totally understandable as she's not the one in the kitchen. It's a what happened afterwards that made our experience uncomfortable. We could hear everyone standing by the register including server talking about us. Saying "I am not a cook how am I supposed to know that" or just making comments regarding one simple question. I get questions like this all the time and I do my job to get my customer all the information they need to make their experience a joyous one. By all means I know not to let a customer know that a question they had bothered me or my coworkers. Given the fact that we have attended to the lady standing behind the counter at our previous employer with her family and always treated her with the outmost respect and attention I felt very very disappointed. We still tipped our server 25% because that's what we do in solidarity with our fellow food service industry workers.

I haven't been here in a long time. So wasn't sure what to expect. It was busy. I think this is a place for weekend breakfast with the family. We didn't have to wait long. The lot was small and parking spaces limited as there were a few business in the strip mall. We were lucky to get a spot across from the doors. The aisles were tight and hard to maneuver. We had a booth in the corner. The menu had a lot of choices from eggs to sandwiches. So we ordered ribeye and eggs, blueberry waffles, sausage and cheese omelette with a side of broccoli and corn beef hash and eggs. We were all happy with the food. But there's a few things that could be done to get higher marks. The sugar, salt shaker, hot sauce and jelly container were really sticky. They should at least wipe them down. Especially since there are a lot of families with children eat here. The portions served was enough however the prices were high. I had corn beef hash and 2 eggs with toast. It was $9.50. Most places would much less.

My first time here. Came for breakfast and found everything to be good. I ordered the pigs in the blanket. The sausage was really good and was nicely wrapped in the blanket (pancakes). These pancakes were huge. Pancakes were good , but it is overwhelming. I would prefer thinner and smaller pancakes since the sausages are small. I ended up cutting the ends of the pancakes on both sides. Seriously with the leftover pancakes I had cut could have made three more pancakes hahahahaha. But, overall the pigs in the blanket were really good. Loved their coffee. I should have asked the grand of coffee they use, because I was actually impressed. Next time I go I'm gonna ask. Also, they serve donuts and pastries that are laid out and displayed behind the register area, similar to how Dunkin Donuts has them. Boy do they serve donuts. They have donuts the size of a big round cake! Service and food are good, prices reasonable, great coffee, and BIG donuts! ....They are open 24hrs!

To all management: May I suggest, if the employees don't like their job, go find another job. If I have to explain my order 5 times, they still got it wrong, and I have to pay extra to fix my order.

Why having a restaurant if you are going to act like you are bother taking orders. That place used to be pack, the food used to be good and the people used to be friendly. Not anymore. You are not a 5 starts restaurant, just to let you know.

Once I arrived the wait wasn't long before I was seated and my order was taken. The waitstaff was professional, friendly and pleasant. The table I was sitting at was clean the area, orderly and well lit. My order was taken quickly and the food was cooked properly. The waitress was very attentive to my needs and courteous. I would recommend this establishment to all of my friends.

I'm not going to lie maybe it's just me but they are not big fans of black folks. The server didn't come back to check on us not once and she literally checked on the other tables around us with big smile. I'm a great tipper but I just could not tip her today. The food was okay but the server not checking to make sure the food was good or not just made my whole experience there terrible because I couldn't even ask for the things I needed because she was never available to us.

A Southside staple. The food is there for you when you need it after a long night out or early mornings with the family. Its for everyone! Great selection of freshly baked donuts and coffee that stays hot. The food selection is huge and if pretty good for a decent price. The servers are great and is located right off the 55. The Hubs says that there is other locations too. I hear they have this giant donut thing that I am 100% coming back for. I always get the omlettes and the portion sizes are huge. Had a bunch of leftovers too!

We stopped here for breakfast. The server was excellent! Always checking on us and refilling our coffee. We found out she has worked there for 38 years and still going at it. The food was good too! We will definitely go back!

Low-key and no-frills, Huck Finn has been in this neighborhood for decades. For breakfast, diners can expect donuts, omelets, scrambled eggs, waffles, pancakes, and basic breakfasts ordered by loyal neighborhood customers. Their omelets are one of the best in the area.

Huck Finn is a classic Chicago 24/7 diner-food restaurant. "Huck Finn Donuts" is how they were introduced to me 40 years ago. Their biscuits and gravy are remarkably good, with gravy doing most of the work. There is plenty of it, so you can drag other food when the biscuits are gone. The biscuits are moist and pleasant but not really flakey or airy. I'd still eat them 3x/day. The sausages were great and I want to go back for pigs in a blanket. Now. Right now. They have "combos" that are probably a better value than a la carte pricing. Food price inflation is an issue here: I know people who used to eat here daily--but it's too expensive now. I could get a dozen organic eggs for what they charge for 2. Value should be a thing people care about because if you don't react they will keep increasing. You know they are not paying servers what they are worth. My server was easy to fall in love with and the cashier was great too. They know how to hustle while paying attention to service details that build a good dining experience. Value comparison: For what I paid for a good but basic breakfast, I could have had the best pizza in the city at Forno Rosso. If you're on the Southside, it's worth a stop for breakfast, burgers, or baked goodness. Parking is fair but I would avoid the brunch crowds on weekends. At those times the congestion will push you towards a heart attack.

Alright, let's get right to it. This is solely based on the donuts, because I have yet to eat an actual meal here. The donuts though? We've been here a few too many times in recent months. They're cheap, they're soft and they're quite tasty. Huck Finn has become my go to spot for fritters and crullers, surprisingly. We've cut back on the donuts, but they've become our new spot for when we just want a good donut without paying an arm and a leg for one.

The owner should re-name this place Yuck Finn. I ordered the creamy chicken alfredo and it was absolutely disgusting. I wouldn't have even fed my dog this garbage. The only saving redemption to this meal was the creamy chicken soup and dessert. Then to top off the evening was one of the servers standing right outside the door blowing cigarette smoke right in my face. (Pure class) If I was the owner, i would've fired her in the spot! I would never come back to this shithole of a restaurant even if you paid me.

Wonderful neighborhood restaurant. I've been going here for years. The servers are top notch, the food is always delicious. I always take home donuts, which are fresh and tasty. Highly recommend!

Waa here last month for a brunch meet. I've heard about this place years ago for their donuts and glad I've finally went! I wished I remembered what I ordered and took a picture of it; however, I remembered the portions and reasonable prices! Next time I should try the ice ctram selection--when it isn't winter time in the Chi! Donut selection was pretty basic but the size and taste as made it worth while. You can order ridiculous sizes...chocolate frosted or vanilla frosted. I ordered a chocolate one for my daughter to try at home since she never tried one. She had that disapproval look because I ordered the chocolate instead of the vanilla; one bite and she loved the dough! I glady ate the top dough with the frosting. Big parking lot. Too far of a drive for me though, I would go back when I have a friend to meet up.

Great for a chill date...food was good. The clam chowder was pretty good...and I love clam chowder. I had Ribs and she had Cinnamon Roll French Toast. That looked awesome (and she killed it). Our server Antoinette was really friendly! We got a great surprise at the end of our meal... a doughnut was included

Underrated! The food was quite good and the servers were kind an talkative. I went with my friends and we all enjoyed it! If I lived closer I would go every weekend! I definitely recommend going:)

Pros: -Staff were great -Surprisingly some healthy options available -They have DONUTS -- Gilled Chicken Salad This was exactly what I wanted (and I was surprised to find something so light on the menu)! Fresh, crispy veggies (cucumbers, green peppers, tomatoes), colorful, and large enough to split into two meals. Awesome! Boston/Custard Cream Donut ($1.40) Not bad, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it again. Do-rite still has the best Boston cream in Chicago in my mind! I'd rank HF 3rd after Glazed and Infused. No standout element (chocolate, cream, or dough) but a solid donut.

Paid $48 for 2 skillets that barely had meat on them and very little potatoes. We called asking if we can return the order bc we were not satisfied and did not touch the food and she refused to refund and was rude to us on the phone. Definitely not worth the price. Small portions for the price.

I like this place because they have some ok comfort food. But to he honest none of the food is something to make your mouth water. They focus on breakfast food but I mean how far can an omelette go. I get the Turkey club which btw is $10 for Turkey ham, tomatoes, lettuce,and 2 strips of bacon. The sandwich is nothing but huge chunks of lettuce and tomatoes. Their soups are ok. But what I hate about this place are rh service you get. The waitresses always have some major attitude. They rarely come to check up on you. AMD I've been here when there is very few people. They can update their menu and lighten up a bit. Just my opinion.

I used to come here often when I lived in McKinley Park about 10 years ago -- it's the only 24 hour diner around. Huck Finn has since remodeled but they certainly have not upgraded their service model. Over the summer I noticed a new "Oriental Stir-Fry" special on the menu, complete with a racist cartoon caricature of an Asian chef. I mentioned how inappropriate this was to my server back in June but apparently my comment was not taken seriously... Earlier this week I went back for a late night club sandwich with fries and soup. Not only was the restaurant out of soup and unwilling to deduct anything or substitute for chili (fries and soup are extra and come together) but the racist stir-fry cartoon in the menu is still alive and well. With the current influx of Chinese-American families and Chinese immigrants moving to McKinley Park and Brighton Park I can only assume this cartoon is targeted and intentional. Gross. The food is good but the white waitress is super racist. She is extremely kind to white people but as soon as she has to server someone of color she is emotionless, monotone, and very rude. I stopped coming to this location because every-time I bring a friend or family to eat she always acts ignorant. White people are welcome. The rest are not!

We swing by Huck Finn for an early breakfast before catching a flight at Midway. It was pretty quiet, service was quick and the food was great. The potato pancakes were the star of the meal. We also could not resist a chocolate glazed donut- so fresh and delish! Overall- very satisfied with the quality and price of the food, as well as the service we received. Would go back for sure!

Let me paint a picture - "Cue Wayne's World Sequence doodley do doodley do, We get into Ohare about 11 pm after located our baggage claim and our cousin coming to pick us up we had quite the wait outside the airport to get on the I-90 express. By this point its close to 1 am, we want something to fill our stomachs that no amount of southwest peanuts could do. Knowing our hearts desire anything at this point, our fam bam took us to a convenient spot - Here Huck Finn Restaurant. This place is perfect for mine, his, hers, ours and yours and I'll tell you why. Its got sooooo many things to choose from and with that, we ordered club sandwiches and my orderwas the pancakes with strawberries (loads of whipped cream). I mean honestly there is no way you could mess up their offerings. Service was fantastic and we were in an out with our bellies full.

I'm super mad I paid $20 for that steak...It was hard & no seasoning AT ALL. It suppose to been a rib eye. Should have went down the street to Kevin's like I started

This place is worst than what I remember! Food is horrible and waaaay over priced. Everything is so blah. Totally seems frozen, and canned I wouldn't be surprised if this place ends up on kitchen nightmares. Only reason it gets 2 stars is because our waitress was super nice,attentive,professional and helpful. Which is an improvement, before the upgrade all the waitresses where nasty and seemed to be working towards their smoking break only. Only palatable thing was the fries and usually the doughnuts ( didn't have one this time) and the chocolate shake. Soup was meh. I would say fill up on the bread,(because food is that bad) but its unwrapped and after seeing the other reviews, it's better to not do that either. God knows what they been through. It's open 24 hrs, we live not 5 min walking distance and we have starved late night instead of going here. Save your money if u want food HOWEVER desserts (doughnuts,shakes, sundaes) are very good.

Huck Finn's is great. It's an old school diner, with really great service. Admittedly the prices are a bit steep given what you get but the execution is always great, quick and delicious.
