The story of Huck Finn Donuts, South Side Chicago’s beloved diner chain | Eater Chicago

"Opened in 1998 as the chain’s suburban outpost, this location maintains the diner’s famous doughnuts and classic menu items but stands out as the only 24-hour site, preserving the tradition of late-night breakfasts and after-hours crowds. Its round-the-clock service makes it the primary late-night haunt for fans seeking the same diner staples and community-minded hospitality found at the city locations." - Naomi Waxman

Two stars for the two free erotic fiction novels in the vestibule, one more star for our server’s good attitude, one star for the very tasty and well-priced apple fritter (a unique dish), and one last star for the drama elapsing between two waitresses while we were there. This is all I could dream of - and more - when contemplating going to a diner before 6:00 AM.

I don't mind paying, and you did increase the price of Skirt steak and egg to $32.99 , but where's the steak. It was barely 6 inches. I visit often after work on Saturdays and get the same thing everytime. Did I complain ? 🤔 No, because if the owner doesn't know what the kitchen is putting out he isn't doing his job. And I'm sure he's well aware.

Remember eating here when I was younger and the soup was also delicious. Got a soup Togo and some donuts. They give you bread and butter with your soup. They also have big donuts like the Alaskan donut.

Love huck Finn! The food was amazing; we ordered the club sandwich and French toast—10/10. Highly recommend! Also Pat was amazing! She frequently refilled my coffee cup.The service was top-notch, and I felt well taken care of throughout my visit.

I went to the restaurant a number of times. It's been an okay experience. Today not the case. I ordered the meatloaf meal. The mashed potatoes were hot. The meatloaf was not. Not sure what happened to our waitress but I had to get up and get my own to-go boxes while my glass of drink remained empty.. I don't think it's a bad restaurant I just think I had a bad experience. It happens but I don't think you should pay for such a thing. Anyways I will be going to another restaurant nearby next time. When a different waitress approach the table to give me the bill she asked me if everything was okay I politely told her that my meatloaf was cold. She says well let's bring it back and have him fix it. I don't like doing that I think sometimes that chefs get upset that you're not appreciating their efforts. I politely told her I got a microwave at home.... One last thing. It might be a little bit better than Marie callender's. But I'll tell you what Stouffer's will give their meatloaf a run for the money. It is definitely not homemade off of the old frozen block right to your plate. Good luck

One of, if not, the most classic and reliable breakfast restaurants around. Welcoming interior, friendly faces, and a menu with lots to choose from. Signature plates, omelets, skillets, sandwiches, and so on. Everything on their breakfast menu is lovely and has never let me, or company down. We always feel comfortable, knowing that whatever we order shall please us and start our morning off properly. While I cannot personally speak of the lunch menu too much, the items I have had from there feels comparable in quality to the breakfast menu. The prices are also very nice, and stands as one of the few breakfast locations that deliver with quantity AND quality without charging an excessive amount. Definitely recommend.

Huck Finn in Oak Lawn is a true gem, a classic diner experience with food that warms the soul. My recent visit with my Soror was nothing short of delightful. From the moment we stepped in, the cozy atmosphere and the aroma of home-style cooking set the stage for a perfect meal. Let's talk about the food, because it truly deserves the spotlight. I opted for the cinnamon roll French toast, and it was an absolute revelation. Imagine thick slices of French toast, infused with the warm, sweet spice of cinnamon rolls, and perfectly cooked. It was a decadent treat, a sweet indulgence that started my day on the most wonderful note. The corned beef hash was also exceptional – hearty, flavorful, and clearly made with quality ingredients. My Soror's choice of hash and pancakes was equally satisfying. She raved about the perfectly cooked hash and the light, fluffy pancakes. It's clear that Huck Finn takes pride in serving generous portions of classic comfort food. Beyond the delicious food, the service was outstanding. Our waitress was truly lovely. She was attentive, friendly, and genuinely engaged in our conversation, making us feel right at home. It's those little touches that elevate a dining experience from good to memorable. If you're looking for a place that serves up delicious, hearty food with a side of warm hospitality, Huck Finn in Oak Lawn is a must-visit. Whether you're craving sweet or savory, you're sure to find something to satisfy your appetite. I highly recommend the cinnamon roll French toast and the corned beef hash, but honestly, I suspect everything on the menu is equally delicious. It's a place where you can relax, enjoy good food, and create lasting memories with friends and family.

Was really surprised, I thought it was just a coffee and doughnut shop. I have never seen such an extensive menu. It took me forever to decide. I had soup, patty melt and season fries. It was all terrific. Everyone was nice and friendly. The bakery on the way out was great, we bought somethings to take home. It was all delicious and wonderful and can't wait to go back.
