We had a decent time stopping by yesterday and enjoying the game. However upon getting home and checking our bank statement today we noticed that the amount charged on our first tab was significantly higher than the original amount we had agreed to pay. We were waiting in a long line to get the food from the makeshift kitchen they had set up under some canopies. Someone approached us offering to take our order while we waited to get to the front of the line. He said we had to prepay before getting to the front of the line. We obliged and ordered something in a rush after several minutes of waiting for him to bring over a menu. The "menu" was just a small piece of paper on a small clipboard that everyone had to pass around. We just wanted to eat something before the game started. So we didn't complain or make a fuss and just ordered something and hoped for the best. The "waiter" in question however gave himself an unauthorized $15 tip on a $58 order. We did not approve this tip amount. We had manually set a fixed amount of under $2.00, which we felt was appropriate given that all the "waiter" did was click a few buttons on a mobile device. We were using a card with a preset amount to pay for our order and due to a miscalculation on our part in the order total (by a few cents) the card declined, so to keep things moving we opted to use a different card. While we were looking for the 2nd card in my bag the "waiter" turned the device towards him and made adjustments himself on the device, we didn't think much of it since we figured he would have to reset the payment so we could retry with the different card. Turns out he was adding a 25% tip for himself and charged us a new amount of $78+ vs the original $65 (food, tax, and tip) amount we had agreed to. We didn't notice it in the moment since we had no reason to believe that they would have to steal money through unauthorized tips on a day with an event of over 1500 people. Plus they never provided us with a receipt upon the conclusion of the transaction. If we had gotten a receipt we would have noticed right then and there and brought the issue up. We even had a second tab/transaction with a second "waiter" where we left a tip and did not have issues with the final transaction amount. So this could have been an isolated incident with just that "waiter." We called the restaurant today and they did not provide any help besides preaching about tipping the "industry standard." Which we did on our second tab without being told to. We have no issues with tipping, but what we tip is our decision. Maybe pay your employees a living wage and they won't feel like they have to steal money from patrons. The food was okay, they did have a limited menu due to the ongoing event they were hosting. The experience of watching the game there was okay too, too many people and not enough effort was put into properly organizing it and accommodating for the large crowd (over 1500 people). As in the audio could have been better, some areas had none or had speakers that were muffled/defective. The tvs were all showing a different quality image, some blurry and some washed out colors etc. A lot of tvs were not meant for the setting they had them in, as in improper tvs being used in an outdoor setting (sunlight). Not enough seating and standing room for a crowd that big. Etc. But in the end the team we supported won, so there is that silver lining. Overall an experience tainted by the behavior of both this "waiter" and the "director" we spoke to on the phone. Especially the director who insulted us with profanity over the phone and preached to us about tipping and his ideologies rather than providing actual help with the issue we experienced. If we could have the owner contact us or someone else who's helpful that would be greatly appreciated. We would be glad to update this review with a different customer service experience. Otherwise we will have to go through our bank and go through that process to make things right. Lesson to be learned, always watch your waiter & please double check your checks!
