The Best Cocktail Bars in San Antonio | Eater Austin

"In contrast to Holy Diver, this Riverwalk tiki showpiece aims for an immersive experience. The best seat in the house, the front banquette, amps up the camp with black velvet paintings, a thatched ceiling, and a skull chandelier. The tiki canon is well-represented with potent renditions of zombies, mai tais, and hurricanes. The Jungle Pájaro served in a parrot mug, is a delight with mezcal, cinnamon, and three kinds of pineapple." - Brandon Watson

Cody was absolutely amazing! His service and patience was awesome. We ordered quite a few drinks and the place was packed. There is a trade show happening and there is an extra 15k people in the area and the bar wad standing room only. The staff were busy but happily made our drinks and handled their side work and the crowd like it was nothing. I didn't feel like I was a burden and Cody enjoyed serving us and made excellent recommendations. I would highly suggest you go here. This bar is a hidden gem along the river walk. A true Tiki Bar.

A Must-Visit Tiki Bar in San Antonio! We had an incredible time at Hugman’s Oasis! The atmosphere is fantastic, with decor that fully embraces the tiki vibe, making for a fun and immersive experience. I tried the Daily Daiquiri, which was a ginger variation. It was delicious, though I personally would have loved an even stronger ginger kick (I’m a big fan of anything super gingery). I also had the Mai Tai, which was equally fantastic. My husband ordered the Martinique Fashioned, and it was absolutely incredible. The flavors were on point, and the presentation was stunning—definitely a standout drink! The only food item we had at the bar was the Spam Musubi, and it did not disappoint. It was a tasty bite before we headed upstairs to Tokyo Cowboy, their sister restaurant, where we had an amazing dinner. A special shoutout to our bartender, Miles. He made the experience truly exceptional. Not only does he craft top-notch cocktails, but he’s also a joy to chat with—if you visit, definitely try to sit at the bar with him! Overall, Hugman’s Oasis is a must-visit. Great drinks, a fantastic atmosphere, and top-notch service. Can’t wait to come back next time I’m in San Antonio!

Google
Only snacks so we didn't really eat here. Drinks are solid, we stuck to the Happy Hour Menu before we went up to Tokyo Cowboy. Decor is pretty spot on, lots to see and spend time checking out. 12 seats at tables. 1 larger party booth and about 12 barstools. If you're in SA it is worth a stop if on the River Walk. Happy Hour has great prices from 4-6 M-F. Music is a bit odd, its tropical and sort of growing on me.

Google
What a cute little place to escape and reset after a long day. The decor is an attention getter and conversation starter for sure. We did not order food as we stumbled here during our walk after dinner. The music, atmosphere and drinks were fantastic.

Google
Such a fun tropical hideaway! We really enjoyed our experience here and would recommend to others. Cody took great care of us and made us feel welcome. Our drinks tasted great and we ended up getting a themed glass and swizzle stick as a souvenir. So glad we did! We will definitely be back next time we are in town.

Yvonne

Google
Texas Sun was absolutely amazing! 🌞🔥 This drink is an experience is beautifully presented, with a dramatic flame that makes it a showstopper. The flavor is just as impressive as the presentation…perfectly balanced, smooth, and unique. A must-try for anyone looking for something special. Highly recommend!

Google
Very cool Tiki Bar situated along the River Walk with indoor and outdoor seating! Cam, the bartender was great and accommodating. Prices are a bit steep given it’s a themed bar but overall a fun vibe. Drink pictured: Painkiller.

Google
Been coming here since they opened, I wish more often since us locals don't go to the Riverwalk often: but when I do have to be downtown, I make sure to hang out at Hugmans! Last night we planned on coming in for 1 drink and an appetizer, but a thunderstorm came in faster than we expected, so we stayed here for another drink waiting for the rain to pass: it's a great place to spend during a storm!!

Yelp
Walked up around 6 on Saturday with a group of 7. Immediately the waitress worked her magic and got us a spot outside. Decor was highly thought about in this place! Lightening , wall decor, music, and drink presentation all very much for the theme. The staff were so friendly and so were other tables sitting near us. Had the fries there and they were delicious I appreciated they also offered unique mock tails that I didn't try this time but will definitely come for next time. Would 100% think of brining out of towners here- would be a great bar stop while checking out downtown!

Yelp
Great drinks! The fries were great for something to snack on while trying strong drinks. The service is great, friendly bartenders! The ambiance... well it's a tiki bar! You come for the strong drinks and the design. Tiki bars are the only bars you should go to.

Yelp
Luckily found this spot during a business trip to San Antonio Riverwalk. Its at the very beginning, right off a bridge, so its easy to miss if you're not looking. They get busy quickly, but I was there right at 5 p.m. and was able to grab a quick seat at the bar. The ambience is nice, music is loud enough to enjoy but quiet enough to enjoy the conversation. Prices are what you should expect to pay for any Tiki Bar. They have a few food items, Hot Dog, Poke etc. Small bar eats but there's 50 other full restaurants within a mile walk on the Riverwalk.

Yelp
Service was slow. We were seated at the least desirable spot - right next to the hostess stand (when it was not busy). Finally, the drinks were both small and bitter, like an underfed Zennial. Both the pina colada and daiquiri left a bad aftertaste. As great as they could be with this location and related businesses, it's terrible here. What few selections are on the menu for small bites did not match that on the website. Again the server was terrible. She had a chip on her shoulder as if we were a burden. Slow as could be

Yelp
We visited this night spot with friends on a Saturday night, and our experience was incredibly disappointing. We walked in around 11:45 PM and were promptly seated. The server took our order right away, but at no point did they mention that the place was closing at midnight. We ordered four specialty drinks, and the bill came to a steep $65. The drinks were brought out just before 11:50 PM, and at exactly midnight, we were abruptly told that we had to leave. This left us with barely any time to enjoy what we had paid for. We were able to say until about 1210. It's fine they had to close because it's their hours, but they should have said something before we ordered. It felt like they were preying on us as if we were tourists who didn't know better. Unfortunately for them, we're locals, and we still received this poor treatment. While the tiki-themed decor is neat, the unethical business practices overshadow any ambiance they have going for them. I absolutely do not recommend going to this place. There are plenty of other spots around town that treat their customers with respect this is not one of them.

Yelp
Drinks were spectacular. Great ambiance very relax. It's a cozy bar you can relax and feel like you're somewhere exotic.

Yelp
We celebrated our friend Chris's 80th birthday party and Jon and the rest of the staff were amazing! Food was also delicious and will come back and recommend this spot !

Yelp
Vibes! This place gives off great vibes as soon as you walk in. I stumbled upon this place after eating at Tokyo Cowboy (they are connected) and they have a holiday themed bar/pop-up that gives festive vibes. I ordered one of the holiday drinks and it was phenomenal, savory, yet strong. It's a super chill place to go with a small group of people only because it's not the hugest bar inside. They do have some outdoor seating that overlooks the Riverwalk so that's a plus. Service was great so I was very pleased with my visit and looking forward to going back. Oh forgot to mention: if you order food from there it comes from Tokyo Cowboy so you can get the hugman's experience whilst eating food from TC.

Yelp
My oldest son and his wife came down to San Antonio to celebrate my 65th birthday. They wanted to try this place out, as they are going through a tiki bar phase right now. We made a reservation for 5:30, and when the whole family was ready, we headed down to the Riverwalk. We were a bit early, so we walked around for a while waiting for a text to tell us our table was ready. The text never came, so we went back at 5:30 and were taken right to our table. Now, I need to say that they were having the Beachbum Berry Presents: Sippin' Santa Pop-Up right now. I'm not sure we knew that when we headed down. They have a special holiday menu, but evidently their shipment of special holiday tiki glasses for the event did not get in yet. To make up for that, they served all drinks for $11, which was about $5 off. They also did not have their regular food menu in place. But, when we asked about some of the things we had seen on the menu, the server told us we could get some of them. We ordered two plates of french fries, a crab roll, and a spam roll. I am not sure of the actual menu names. The rolls came with two pieces on a plate. The crab roll came with a spicy dipping sauce. My youngest son and I each ate one of them and thought they were great. My older son and I each ate a piece of the spam roll. Older son hated it because it had cilantro. I LOVED IT and ordered two more plates of two so that my youngest son and daughter in law could try them. I could have eaten a dozen of them. Don't even ask me what's in them. It just all melded together to make a great flavor explosion. Everyone had a couple of drinks, but me. I ordered the same drink my oldest got. It was called a Sippin' Santa. I really liked it, but MAN WAS IT STRONG. I drank half of it and passed it on to my youngest son. I was the driver and already felt half lit. Our group also tried a Jingle Bird, Holiday on Ice, Sharkie's First Christmas, Merry Spritzman , and a Yuletide. The younger folks each had two different drinks and a Ginger Snapper shot. I think my wife just had a second Yuletide. They were all very "happy" when we left to go for dinner somewhere else. Our server was fantastic. She explained things well and kept checking on us. The kids were really disappointed about the lack of tiki glasses, but her explanation and the discount offered took care of it. We had 9 drinks, so the discount for us was $45. I was paying. I didn't need a silly glass. The savings was better. The place was well decorated. They nailed the tiki theme. I really liked it. It is pretty small, unless there are other rooms we didn't see. It was nearly empty when we got there, but packed when we left. The music was great and not too loud. The youngers want to go back again when it is serving the regular menu. I would love to go back, but wish I wasn't picking up the tab. Y'all know I'm a poor retired school teacher on a fixed income. I'm not used to hanging out in night clubs for an hour and a half and dropping a couple of hundred dollars on drinks. But, like they say, "You can't take it with you." Might as well spend my money on my kids while I'm alive to have fun with them.

Yelp
Great small Tiki-themed bar. It's a great place to meet friends or to go on a date. Christine was our bartender; she was great!
google avatar

Yelp
Beautiful indoors and out. The food came pretty quickly. My friend loved her mocktail.
google avatar

Yelp
Great concept... unfortunately it was a flop in person. It was kind of difficult to find, even my Uber driver couldn't find it so I was dropped off down the street. It has super cute potential but when I went, they were in between chefs/menus and their novelty cups had been stolen or broken so they didn't haveany anymore I was told. Their place advertised they have really cute tiki cups that are souvenir No more. :(
google avatar

Mariana T.

Yelp
Great spot for a fun and chill night out. A little pricey for my taste, but the drinks were enjoyable. Next time I come I'll probably just order drinks. The food takes a long time and the portion size is incredibly small (except fries) for the price of each item. The fries took forever to come out, it seemed like our waitress completely forgot about them.
google avatar

Yelp
First timers here. Ambiance: super small inside. Very festive with the image of a tiki hut for sure. The major down side was it was soooo HOT inside. No fans, not vents that we could see, was t sure if the decor covered them or what. I think if the air flow was better, would have made the night better or atleast more comfy. Waitstaff: the host was super sweet , but our waitress just simply had an attitude for some reason and killed the vibe tbh. She would sigh every time we'd order and talk low almost seemed on purpose so we had to ask her to repeat herself a few times and not sure if that's what made her annoyed but it also didn't really make us feel welcome. Drinks: drinks were good. Not a heavy selection which was good. Very Hawaiian friendly and related. The only thing was that the mixed drinks had ALOT OF ICE, more crushed ice than actual liquid not sure what was going on with that but they were flavorful. All in all, would my husband and I go back- maybe if we were invited but not someplace I'd call a go to for friends.

Yelp
this place was VIBE!!!! drinks were strong and so damn good - incredible vibe and will be back! Luis was out server and was amazing - this is a SA Riverwalk must!
google avatar

Paige D.

Yelp
This place is a small speakeasy type of entrance inside Tokyo Cowboy. I had a daiquiri and a mai tai. The mai tai was okay and the daiquiri was good but a little sweet. Cute atmosphere though!
google avatar

Ashley O.

Yelp
Fun little place, great decor, but the lack of AC and the sweaty, grumpy bartenders made it a one-and-done for us.
google avatar

Angela T.

Yelp
Ambiance was good. Place seemed much smaller to me. Service was average as I sat at the bar. Drinks were good.
google avatar

Erika G.

Yelp
Beautiful place! The inside is surprisingly small but very cool. They also have a patio and from we were told it's the best place to be for the boat parade! The decore details and atmosphere transport you to a Tiki bar for sure! We ordered the Painkiller and the Burnin Ship, all the drinks are served in different themed glassware. VERY COOL! For food they serve selected menu items from the restaurant upstairs. We tried the Crab Roll (My favorite) served with a lime/soy sauce and green sprouts. And the Brisket Roll filled with queso asadero and tender meat, served with chili herbs ranch. I forgot the bartender's name but he was very nice and attentive. Mixology is definitely art!
google avatar

Alex W.

Yelp
Delicious drinks and a nice atmosphere. We arrived there around 6 in the afternoon and got a table outside, the drinks are very tasty, the alcohols is not overpowering the flavors in the drink but still the drinks are strong. The servers are very nice and although it was a busy night some would always come by to make sure we had our drinks
google avatar

Jasmine S.

Yelp
Spent the evening being waited on by Claire. She was amazing! So attentive and friendly. 10/10 would come again

Austin W.

Yelp
The drinks were spectacular. Good mix of tiki classics and originals. The ambiance is wonderful. Makes you feel like you're on vacation. Will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
I took a trip to San Antonio in early November. After brunch, we walked down the River Walk getting ready to make our way back to Houston. That's when we stumbled upon Hughman's Oasis and knew we had to check it out. I will say that I love tiki bars. There's just something about the elaborate, tropical cocktails that pack a punch, the vibe, the smell, and the decor. There's even the use of fire in some drinks which is really cool. I'm all about it. We were there on a Sunday afternoon so there weren't a lot of people there. We sat a the bar and I ordered a painkiller. This cocktail allows you to choose between several levels with the highest offering the highest alcohol content. Beyond the creative cocktails, both the inside and outside of Hughman's Oasis are awesome. There are tiki torches outside. Inside, you feel like you've been transported to another world. I returned to San Antonio a few weeks later and by a great stroke of luck, I stayed at the Omni which is right next to Hughman's. I made another visit with a group and the second time around was just as good as the first.
google avatar

Leticia G.

Yelp
Really fun ambiance. We went on a Saturday night and expected that it would be crowded. We did have to wait for a table, but only for about 10 minutes, then we got a text that something opened up for us. It was a very hot night out and to my dismay, inside it was just as stuffy and a little too warm for the small space and amount of people in there. Drinks are delicious but pricey. We had two each, for a total of 4 which came out to a little over 50 bucks. They were quick and well presented. I could've forgiven the price seeing as it was date night and we tend to splurge on our once a month night out. What I really didn't like was that about 10 minutes after being seated, the hostess came to our table, set down a card that said "reserved" and said "just so you know, I'll need this table at 9:30 because I have a reservation." Okay then... start the countdown. It was still 40 minutes away but it definitely put a damper on our time because who knows how long we would have stayed there. Alas, hot crowded room, expensive drinks and rude hostess made for an unwelcoming environment. I'd been wanting to come here for a long time now, I'm glad I did but probably would not return. Perhaps under better circumstances.
google avatar

Krystal P.

Yelp
Our server was Bridget and she was so very sweet. She was helpful with making our drink selections. We went with a painkiller and whiskey. The drinks were made to perfection. If you are looking for a cool location right off the water with a unique interior. This is your place!

David M.

Yelp
Summer in San Antonio is hot and these drinks were the perfect thing to cool down with. My wife, son (2 years old), and I really enjoyed the Karaage Chicken. our server Claire could not have been more amazing! My only complaint was that we could not make it back again before we had to catch our plane.
google avatar

Nina K.

Yelp
Love the vibe here, very tiki. Not a whole lot of sweet drinks which is what I prefer but a good selection of tiki drinks! It's a good place indoors or outdoors!

Sean B.

Yelp
Amazing cocktails. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. Tiki-rific atmosphere. Highly recommend. A jewel of the Riverwalk.
google avatar

Joe S.

Yelp
Boy oh boy, let me tell you about Hughman's Oasis - it's like stepping into a dream where tiki drinks reign supreme. I mean, seriously, those concoctions are straight-up fantastic. And let me tell you, Victor the bartender? That guy was beyond amazing - mixing up drinks with the grace of a cocktail wizard. Okay, so here's the scoop: the drinks might hit your wallet a bit harder than a splash from a cannonball, but believe you me, they're worth every doubloon. And listen up, this spot turned out to be one of the highlights of our stay in San Antonio. So, if you're up for an experience that's not just a drink, but a whole tiki adventure, don't think twice - Hughman's Oasis is where the good times are set to sail. Cheers to Victor and the gang for a night we won't soon forget!
google avatar

Xavier C.

Yelp
This place should be celebrated for their delicious cocktails, and Impeccable Service. Gabriel hooked us up with drinks and vibes that made us feel as if we rediscovered the river walk. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Victoria E.

Yelp
Love this Tiki Bar #Tiki triathlon time for cocktails ! Happy Hour drinks and snacks. A large patio that oversees the river walk it was 102 out so we chose to sit inside- in the bar created by Bamboo Ben. Eric bartender was the best delicious MaiTai.

Zorro E.

Yelp
I absolutely love coming here any chance I get. Chrissy makes the most delicious and intricate drinks both from the menu and on the fly. She crafted me a beautiful improvised cocktail called the "Ohh Banana" that was lit on fire and hit with a fiery charred cinnamon dust! The service is great thanks to her and the rest of the awesome team for sure! The decor is just too cool as well. Cheers!
google avatar

Amy M.

Yelp
LOVE LOVE LOVE Hugman's Oasis! Who doesn't love a tiki theme? Love feeling like I'm on vacay sipping Mai tais which FYI are really good here. Recently had a painkiller which comes in 4 different levels! I got a 2 and man I think that was pretty strong but GOOD! Highly recommend making reservations as it can get busy especially after 8 pm on the weekends. Tip- if you order from one of the tables, ask them to give you a fire show on your drink. If you're at the bar then I believe the bar tenders do it automatically. See picture for reference. Servers are great, very knowledgeable and attentive. They recently started serving food but I have not tried it but definitely on my list. Happy hour runs from 4-6:30 pm so stop by! It's 5 o'clock somewhere especially in San Antonio.
google avatar

Kayla G.

Yelp
This place is so cool! The decor is incredible, the atmosphere is pleasant, and Eric the bartender was so much fun!! This is a must visit if you're in SA. I had the painkiller, sex and candy, and a custom drink by Eric.
google avatar

Bijana K.

Yelp
Great tiki bar. Excellent service. I visited with a group of friends who all ordered special tiki drinks. I just needed a water by that point in the evening and the server impressed me by bringing me a tiki glass complete with orchid.
google avatar

Tammra S.

Yelp
Cute bar that is on the River Walk. Staff was great. Definitely vacationy drink menu. I was here cinco de mayo and expected more tailored drink options. But it was ok. Tried the Texas Tornado and it was definitely strong. Beautiful views next to the bridge.
google avatar

Florence A.

Yelp
Definitely a hidden gem. Decided on a simple date night just to come and try this place. Gives a tropical, hidden temple kind of vibe. It's a lot smaller on the inside than I had expected, but still a quaint, cozy spot for drinks. Welcoming atmosphere. Drinks are strong and come in such cute decorative, themed cups! There is a few appetizers that you can try as well. For two drinks we spent a little over $26
google avatar

Ana A.

Yelp
Loved the ambiance of this place. It was a little hard to find being that it's on the riverwalk and parking around the area wasn't ideal with all the downtown construction. The bar is fairly small and reservations are highly recommended. We sat at the bar area. We went specifically for the Halloween themed mugs they were promoting on social media, however, when we ordered they were not serving in them. We ordered the painkiller and the halekulani. Drinks are strong and reasonably priced for a tiki bar. Worth a visit.
google avatar

Brian H.

Yelp
We visited this cute bar while in San Antonio for the weekend. We sat at the bar and had 2 rounds of drinks before we went to dinner. They had a pop up Christmas Drink themed menu. Drink were good but a little pricey they filled the cups with tons of ice and 8-10 oz of liquid.

Victoria K.

Yelp
The vibe here is incredible!! The drinks are strong but still taste good and the waitstaff is so friendly--especially Claire, who went out her way to make us feel welcome. Will return again!!!

Justin C.

Yelp
That man Brandon will get you right! Make sure to ask for him and to "surprise" you and you will get something thats makes you feel good !
google avatar

Zoe B.

Yelp
Super cute tiki bar with lots of skull decor, shrunken heads, colorful lights, led fountain, etc. it's a really great vibe and I've honestly never seems such a well decorated tiki bar! The drinks are poured very generously and there's a god non-rum selection with gin alternatives for us tourists who can't handle the heat+sugar. We got the Saturns, they were very good and the presentation was lovely. All the workers from the hostess to our server were lovely.
google avatar

Miriam H.

Yelp
We must've come on a bad night or something because everything about this place was bad! We ( a group of 5 women) showed up after 10 on a tuesday ( yes, I know Tuesday, but downtown is usually busy and fun!) welll first off once you walk in, it has a very distinct smell, and the farther you walk towards the back is the restrooms and you find that's where the bad smell is coming from! It was musty old smell, pretty gross. We wanted to sit outside where 90% of the people were but there was a wait time so we just sat inside, they sat us in a corner right by the door, and it felt so dark! The whole place was so dark we had the waiter bring us a little light to be able to read the menu! We were only there because we were hungry but it turned out the kitchen closed at 10, that and their menu selection was very limited! We decided to stay and have a drink since they made them look so fun on their instagram but the waiter had no idea what we were talking about! We asked him if he could bring out the drink that comes in a little pig and he said they didn't have that anymore but yet it is all over their social media! He looked like he was half asleep and did not want to be there! We just each had a simple beer and left. The vibes were lame, the waiter was lame, and we left disappointed. I really had my hopes up they would be like the tiki bars back in LA!
google avatar

Kirsten N.

Yelp
The bar staff were super accommodating and knew their stuff -- even making my hubby an off menu tiki fave. The indoor is adorable, outdoor a little less so -- they were understaffed though so we weren't even able to get a second drink. Try to make a reservation if you can!
google avatar

Ilse V.

Yelp
Now this is a Tiki Bar! Walking past it at the river walk, you'll already be stopped in your tracks by the amazing decor. It only gets better from there. The inside is a dim-lit jungle where you can enjoy proper tiki drinks in all sorts of fun cups. They are definitely not skimpy with the alcohol either. The staff is very friendly and fun, although I felt that they were a bit understaffed when we went there during the week. It wasn't busy, but there was a steady flow of people. The food bites we ordered came out of the kitchen before our first drinks hit the table. Also, at first we were told to access the menu through the QR code but the reception inside isn't the greatest and it wouldn't even scan because of how dark it was inside. I asked for wifi access and was told that it's so slow it likely still wouldn't load, so I was then given a little flyer menu. No biggy, but just counter-productive lol. Anyway, the reason why you should come here is the Tiki Bar vibe and the fun drinks!
google avatar

Jonathan T.

Yelp
While a few drinks were great the service was terrible. I think some people had called out sick. We waited at a table for 15 minutes and finally went to the bar. He seemed busy and overworked but we stayed for a drink which was delicious! Hope the service issues are addressed as the ambiance and drinks were great.
google avatar

Jennifer T.

Yelp
Walking around the River Walk and came across this amazing Tiki bar! So awesome inside!! We took tons of pics and videos!!! And the drinks were fantastic.. we didn't try any food but it all looked great as it walked by:)

Yelp
Absolutely loved the vibes in here! Hugman's is located on the riverwalk and was right around the corner from our hotel. It has both indoor and outdoor seating. We were able to snag a table inside, thank god because it was so hot & humid out. The drinks are all tiki bar themed aka delicious. I had a pain killer which came in a coconut cup & definitely had quite a kick to it. There's some drinks that also feature fire for those wanting a good vid for the gram. A must visit for your San Antonio trip for sure!

Yelp
IT'S TIKI TIME! Definitely the place you want to go if you want a fantastic tiki drink. The ambience is fantastic! Indoor there are bar seats and tables, and plenty of outdoor patio tables. Staff and bartenders are great! Remember, tiki drinks take time to make (lots of ingredients), it's not just putting a mix in it. Also, tiki drinks are over ice traditionally, so there are no slushy type drinks. The Pain Killer here is fantastic, plus you can order it as a double or triple. Staff checked on us quite of often to see if we needed anything. The indoor area is not that larger, so recommend making reservations. If you have a large group, you may want to hang in the patio area for space. Fun place to take pics indoor or outdoors. A really great place to get a drink.
