New Bay Area Restaurant and Cafe Openings to Know in May 2025 | Eater SF

"Opened its first San Francisco location at Pier 39 on Friday, May 9 with an indoor-outdoor space pouring a mix of crowd-pleasing beers, including the brand’s "foggy" IPAs, as well as fun options like a "coffee-forward Irish dry stout," per the San Francisco Standard." - Dianne de Guzman

This Hella Chill Santa Cruz Brewery Just Opened on Pier 39 | Eater SF

"A laidback but winning Northern California brewery has opened on Pier 39, bringing its first San Francisco outpost from Santa Cruz. As of Friday, May 9, fans can visit the big waterfront location during limited weekend hours—Friday 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday noon to 9 p.m., and Sunday noon to 8 p.m.—and the opening has been about a year in the making. The 80-seat taproom offers the same lineup as other locations, per its website. Its awards include a gold medal at the World Beer Championships 2022 for Rejoyce Solera Saison and "Best Overall Non-Alcoholic Beer" at the World Beer Championships 2024 for its NA Hazy IPA. This first outpost in the city bodes well for a city shaken by brewery turbulence in recent year, with Anchor Brewing's coming and going the most serious amongst the roiling (though Chobani's CEO is reportedly resurrecting the brand)." - Paolo Bicchieri

Santa Cruz Brewery Humble Sea Is Opening a Taproom at San Francisco’s Pier 39 | Eater SF

"A Santa Cruz favorite, Humble Sea Brewing Co. is making a big move into San Francisco with its first taproom at Pier 39 (Space N-111-1A), slated to open sometime in July; the expansive 80-seat space will occupy the former Wines of California Wine Bar (which closed in 2019) and includes a dedicated patio, with plans to partner with a yet-to-be-decided restaurant for the food component. This expansion follows the brewery’s recent growth — including a fourth taproom at Alameda Point in May 2023 — and complements existing taprooms in Pacifica, on the Santa Cruz Wharf and the flagship Santa Cruz location, though the Felton location closed in August 2023. Started in owner Nick Pavlina’s grandmother’s house and eyed for San Francisco for the last five years, the move is an ambitious step amid recent turmoil in the Bay Area beer scene (Anchor Brewing ceased production in July 2023, New Belgium closed its San Francisco waterfront taproom in February 2023, and Cellarmaker moved production to the East Bay after acquiring Rare Barrel in 2022)." - Dianne de Guzman

New taproom for Humble Sea Brewing at Pier 39. At last, a decent place to have a beer on the Pier. There used to be a place called Beer 39 on Pier 39 but it closed down years ago. When Sam used to shop at the charm store (now closed) I would sit at the bar in Pier Market but they will only serve full 16oz pours which is too much beer for me to drink. This place is perfect. 5oz pours and decent beer.

Pier 39, a bustling promenade of commerce and seagull diplomacy, felt very much the mandatory place to go to before venturing to the foreboding isle of Alcatraz. One cannot, it seems, face the ghosts of prisoners past without first contemplating one’s life decisions over a pint. We found temporary refuge at Humble Sea Brewing. Their ale proved satisfactory, soothing both spirit and constitution before our maritime adventure. From our perch, the view stretched nobly across the bay, a few seagulls were in sight. Alas, our stay was brief. We drank, admired, and departed like polite bandits, leaving behind only the faint echo of laughter. In truth, there is little else to recount, no scandal, no melodrama, merely a pleasant interlude, a pause before the penitentiary. One must learn to appreciate both the ale and the view… especially when the next stop is a touristy visit of a famous prison.

Humble Sea Brewing in San Diego is an absolute gem and one of the best brewery stops we’ve made. The location is incredible, right on the bay with a huge outdoor patio that makes for the perfect spot to relax, enjoy some fresh air, and take in amazing waterfront views. It’s a laid-back and welcoming environment where you can easily spend a whole afternoon. The service here was excellent—friendly, fast, and knowledgeable about the beers on tap. Humble Sea is especially known for their hazy IPAs, so I made it a point to try four different ones during my visit. Every single one was high quality, bursting with flavor, and true to the hazy style they’re famous for. It’s clear this team takes pride in their brewing process. While they don’t serve food directly, the “Taco Cantina” next door delivers right to your table, which is a huge plus. The combination of great beer and fresh tacos made the visit even better. Whether you’re a local looking for a go-to brewery or visiting San Diego and want something unique beyond the usual tourist spots, this is a must-visit. Highly recommended for beer lovers, IPA fans, and anyone who enjoys a great patio vibe by the water.

A wonderful surprise as we ventured into the Pier from seeing the Sea Lions; a surprise to the bar staff as well that I'd had one of their beers at a craft festival in the UK the previous year, so was aware of them! Brilliant location with outdoor seating by the water, top quality craft beers, and friendly staff happy to provide a recommendation. I can't comment on the food as we didn't eat there but if you're seeking a good beer and a break from the tourist traps, Humble Sea should be your destination!

A beer oasis in the desert of the tourist trap that is Pier 39. After seeing the sea lions and needing a refresher, here’s your spot. A small location with outside tables with a wind guard. No flights but the usual small pours which are the upcoming equivalent. Brews are varied. Not necessarily a beer destination but definitely a refuge for a beer lover.

I gave 5 stars for food, but that is for their amazing beer. The Socks & Sandles is amazing. I could drink that every day. The 2 bartenders that work there are very nice and cool. Came from Cochrane Alberta for the week to stay near pier 39 on the wharf in San Francisco and went there twice. I should have gone more. Can't wait to visit again and drink more. FYI.... I'm a HUGE beer snob and only drink craft type beer. Love the beer here.

We stopped here while waiting for a table at a nearby restaurant. I had the Blue beer, only came in a can, but good portion. It was $11 dollars. Not as fruity as I like for a slushy, but it was good and I loved the color. We sat out on the patio in the sun, but they do have indoor seating as well and a food menu that had taco type fare.

Much needed, finally some quality craft beer on the water in SF. Great service, undeniably amazing location with indoor/outdoor seating, sun kissed patio, and views of The Bay/Bay Bridge. $9.50 pints, beer to go, merch for sale
