Hunan Delight

Stopped here after a friend's recommendation. We had just enough time to eat, then get to our flight. This place was superb. I got the fried pork dumplings to start, and they were phenomenal. I kept it safe, so I got the sesame chicken & fried rice. It was really good though. Service was good, but we were the only ones in the restaurant. If you need a solid Chinese place in Park Slope, definitely add this place on your list.

This Brooklyn Chinese food spot is worth every penny. While prices may be higher than usual, the quality and taste are exceptional. The ambiance when you walk in is cozy and inviting, perfect for a relaxing meal.

One of the best Chinese meals I’ve had in a long time. Beautiful atmosphere, service and food. What a value for the price. Recommend the lunch special. They will be seeing me often.

Ordered delivery for the first time for our Admin Meeting lunch (4 staff members). EVERY DISH was tasted and trashed. General Tao (2), Beef and Broccoli, Veggie lo mein, and the soups with the lunch specials all tasted terrible. Salty, the sauces had that jelly texture, and the rice tasted so old

Best Chinese food I've found in Park Slope. The sweet and sour chicken is awesome! Edit: A year or so later and it’s still the very best Chinese food I’ve found — in Park Slope, in Brooklyn and in NYC in general. The won ton soup is top notch. The egg rolls are perfect. The steamed chicken dumplings rock. Many of the chicken dishes that aren’t breaded can be ordered steamed with sauce on the side making them much healthier than the traditional wok and oil preparation. And the people are nice too. I’m there about once a week and they always know my order!

WOW this was unexpectedly delicious! highly recommend the shrimp dumplings!!

The food had lovely and fresh ingredients but the food was tremendously over salted. We tried to explain this to the waitress and she insisted that customers need to request less sauce. The place should be busier but people at other tables commented about the excess salt also. It really is too bad as it is a sweet place with nice service providers.

I have been ordering food here for awhile and their food is consistently delicious. I usually order take out and the food arrives hot every time. The wonton noodle soup is one of my faves.

This place saved the day Christmas Eve when my brother decided to cancel our Christmas plans the morning of. The place was packed that day but luckily we managed to snag a table. They were a bit overwhelmed and understaffed so we made sure to make our ordering quick and easy. Everything we order was worth it. The General Tso's chicken and Sweet and Sour pork are definitely worth trying. Staff was kind. Food came out hot and quickly. Definitely swing by if ever you're in the Park slope area.

Hunan Delight is another Asian restaurant that I've been eating from for decades- very infrequently but still... Today I pulled up for the takeout, lunch special. Very tasty, tender beef and broccoli. My broccoli was really close to being soggy but I guess the cook got it out of the wok just in time. Fried rice was bland and a bit dried out. The wonton soup was delicious but only two soup dumplings though??? As far as cost, Hunan Delight is a deal. I'm just gonna make sure to be more specific now on, about how I like my food prepared.

Very fast delivery. Food was pretty good. Had the Spare Ribs, Wonton Soup and an Egg Roll. Ribs were a bit greasy (6 out of 10), soup was fine (7.5 out of 10) and the egg roll was good (8.5 out of 10). Will try some main dishes and rice next time.

Shopping at Trader Joe's can be exhausting thus what to do? Replenish your energy! With... Chinese food! I'm always looking for new places to try thus I Yelped Chinese restaurants that were a hop skip and a jump away from Gold Street. Gotta map those hunger quest folks in advance. Even my days off have an agenda these days! Lol! Additionally, I scope out eateries that gave Lunch Specials and of course Hunan Delight offers a nice variety from faves like Sesame Chicken to Mixed Veggies with Chicken or Shrimp. The specials come with choice of rice and soup( egg drop, wonton or hot and sour). I mixed it up a bit.. I really wanted an egg roll and haven't had one in quite some time. Thus, I ordered a bit off: egg roll and mixed vegetables with baby shrimp. I took the wonton soup to go. The restaurant was empty thus my food came out quick:; I really wanted egg roll first then my main but both came out at once which I have to be honest, it shouldn't. ( 1 star chopped due to this). Servers need to politely ask does diner want it all at once or space between. The shrimp and mixed veggies was delicious and plentiful in both shrimp and veggies. I loved it. The egg roll when I got to it @30 minutes later was lukewarm but really good. The size of dining room is spacious but a bit dated. The service is courteous and sweet. I definite recommend Hunan Delight for a nice long lunch and it's so close to 5th Avenue shopping area thus walking off lunch is highly recommended.

Since new owners have taken over this business. The food is very unappetizing. They must never change their cooking oil. Their dishes are oily and on the brown dark side. The ladies in the store are not friendly nor nice. After 4 decades in this neighborhood, I will not be buying any of their dishes. Stay away!

Hunan Delight has been our go to restaurant, whether we eat in or to go it never fails. The food is delicious and service is always great.

The last few rep visits to this place have been lackluster to say in the least. And the beginning of the pandemic the food still had the same flavor and quality, but now not so much. I don't know whether they change shifts or just because they have reduced their operation significantly, it seems they've let quality slide. The shrimp fried rice no longer has any flavor and the amount and quality of ingredients also have dissipated. I was chewing and found a a hard piece of something in it! You can compare the photos of the rice itself and see a big difference. The veggie chicken, was kind of tough last time, so I didn't bother ordering it. One of my very favorite things they used to make, the vegetarian wonton soup, has hardly any filling, $5 for what? I don't know if I'll be back because it is pretty far drive to only be getting the bare minimum. Only reason I gave 3 stars is the staff is still friendly.

This is the last Chinese food place in what seems like all of Brooklyn that is absolutely fantastic! I come all the way from sheepshead Bay multiple times a month just to get my Chinese food from this place. The chicken and broccoli as well as their chow fun dishes are absolutely delicious and for $18 a piece, you have more than enough food for one person. I usually can't even finish the entire thing and have leftovers for the next day. Staff is quite friendly but it's hit or miss with the English on the telephone when you place an order so what I usually do is have them look up my telephone number and tell them to just make the same orders this way there's no chance of making a mistake. Like I said, there's literally no good Chinese food in sheepshead Bay or midwood or Flatbush or any of the near about areas any longer. Thank God for this place!

I've tried better. Feel like the quality and value of the food for some unknown reason continue to not be once it once was. Not sure if they changed their cooks and or have new management.

Great Chinese take out. Best in the Park Slope area. They can be little inconsistent. Still quality ingredients.

As far as the neighborhood goes, Hunan Delight is a serviceable and prompt Chinese delivery option with generous portions. Unfortunately, that's where the praise ends. After giving this place a few chances, I can't really recommend the food itself nor really entertain another order here. It doesn't have flavor that satisfies or even matches what you expect from classic dishes. The rice comes massively overcooked, and most recently, the main was burnt. This is the kind of Chinese food I expect from small town USA, not in a city where otherwise there are much better options to compete with. Still hoping to find one in this part of Brooklyn, though.

I ordered chicken with broccoli and General Tso chicken. I the were very tasty. The general tso was a little spicy. We enjoyed the food. It was tasty and not greasy. I will definitely get it again. The delivery was fast.

I have been ordering take out from Hunan delight for many years. The quality has gone down to bottom. My last order of cold noodles with sesame was gloppy and soft. I had to throw it out. The sesame shrimp was also covered in a sweet sauce. The shrimp was inedible. Threw that out too. Never ordering from there again.

I was walking around in the area and decided to try some Chinese food. Right now they are doing take out and delivery only so keep that in mind. The food was delicious. Everything was fresh, portion sizes were just right, not greasy, not too salty literally just right. The staff was friendly and helpful. I would definitely get food from here again if I am in the neighborhood.

We ordered delivery from here and were pleasantly surprised! We don't eat Chinese food that often, so we had to do some research for places in the area. They weren't available on the delivery apps, but we called to place an order and they delivered to us! Just paid cash when they arrived. It is definitely on the pricier side when you're not ordering a lunch special. And we did spend a pretty penny, but their portions are really big!! It's definitely going to last the two of us at least 2 meals - Scallion pancakes: They arrived a bit soggy, but as expected if you're getting delivery. If you heat them in the toaster oven, they crisp right up. Can't go wrong - Wontons in hot sesame sauce: I liked the spicy sesame sauce but the skin to meat ratio is wayyy off. The wonton skins are also very thick, so I ended up taking most of it off. I'd pass on this next time - Beef chow fun: Decent! It came with shredded carrots instead of scallions, but I didn't mind. It gets the job done if you're craving this dish - Dragon and Phoenix: one of the Chef Special entrees. It comes with pretty large shrimps, chicken, snow peas, green bell peppers, shitake mushrooms, and baby corn in a brown sauce. This one was yummy! and again, big portion. They don't skimp on the shrimp either. Comes with white or brown rice (no extra charge for brown!) This is wayyy too much food for two people, but we have leftovers for tomorrow! I'd order from here again the next time we want Chinese food

Disappointing. I live close by, and it used to be the best place in the neighborhood for chinese food. In the past 6-8 months the quality of the food has gone down. For one example, the chicken used in the sesame chicken used to be better quality than most places. Now, it's dry and gristly. There are better places that cost less now. Too bad.

As you can see I don't write many reviews but this feels warranted after a ridiculous argument over broccoli. We ordered a $20 General Tso's Shrimp which seems ridiculous in itself considering it looks like ordinary Chinese takeout, but I get it. Food costs are up and the location is expensive. I even rolled with the $2 charge for extra broccoli. What I can't roll with is them not giving extra broccoli and then arguing with me that they had when I called. It's not about the $2 it's the fact that they basically called me a liar and then said extra broccoli means they'll give 4 extra pieces. There are only 4 tiny, overdone pieces that equal one large floret in the dish. I guess this was worth a bad review and losing a customer to them.

Husband used to come here twenty years ago and guess what? Still here, still going strong!! And not surprising, as it is good solid Chinese food. Friendly quick service. I ordered the Peking half duck, which was fine, fine, fine! It comes with sliced cucumber, spring onions, pancakes and hoison sauce. D i v i n e... Hubbie had special fried rice and BBQ spare ribs..he said 'on the money' and as good as it was years ago. We asked the waitress, and apparently the chef is the same as years back.. do come,doubt you would be disappointed, as I wasnt! It was reminiscent for me too, of Chinese food I used to eat in England twenty years ago, so maybe the Chinese food I ate so long ago was Hunan style also?

Came here in my pursuit to find a new chinese restaurant and I'm pretty underwhelmed. They are delivery and pick up only which fits my needs. However, their food is not super tasty. I ordered pork fried rice with pork egg foo young and both items were pretty bland. The sauce for the pork egg foo young was super bland super thin. The rice was basic (and it was served with green peas). In my honest opinion, this was very comparable to that of panda express. I also ordered the 8 piece chicken wings (they are more wingettes than chicken wings) They had a weird underlying ginger taste. Definitely was not a fan! For the price, i would say you could do alot better, but idk. Park slope has way better restaurants IMO. I was hoping that i would be able to find a new chinese restaurant, but i guess my hunt will continue!!

This is more of a Public Service Announcement than a review. After going to Hunan Delight for two decades, I received an order of COMPLETELY ROTTEN eggplant. I was immediately refunded, but upset that I no longer feel safe from ordering from a restaurant I trusted for 20 years. I took a deep breath for three days before posting here. After shopping around Park Slope's grocery stores the last few days, the neighborhood seems to lack quality control with fresh produce. Within the last few days, I noticed rotten garlic, eggplant, lettuce, escarole, tomatoes, and more on the shelves of several stores. In The City, grocery stores like Westside Market, are trying their best by replacing garden salads with "salads" that are all nuts, Couscous, and dried fruit and other "trail mix" ingredients that I don't care for, but have longer shelf lives. Yes, there is COVID-19 out there, but bad food KILLS too! In all fairness, I think Hunan Delight is doing the best they can with the resources they have...but I'm not eating it! I have not given up on Hunan Delight, but they need to step up their game. If certain fresh produce is not available, sadly, they should truncate their awesomely large menu. Ironically, during a time when we need to Go Back To The Land, us here in Park Slope know our favorite health food store closed before Covid-19. EAT HERE! There are those old Brooklyn restaurants that you hope like crazy haven't been turned into another designer skateboard shop selling Brooklyn hoodies. I haven't eaten here for 30 years when we left Park Slope for Echo Park. We're Park folk. The cold shredded sesame chicken and a side of brown rice still taste the same. Perfect. It hasn't survived this long in a neighborhood this trendy because it's sucky. Wish we had it back in LA. Great job, Hunan Delight! See you next time.

I came here towards the end of the lunch special , but staff let me in to eat. The food is good for a Chinese spot and if your in the area I suggest ordering takeout without a doubt. It's your typical Chinese food but I love the outdoor space and the fact that staff agreed to let me eat even though lunch special was almost over. I suggest the lo mein!

Came here on a Sunday afternoon. Not crowded and we were seated immediately. We had the spinach noodles with baby ginger and the basil "chicken" Pros: - Vegan friendly! Lots of options to choose from. - Very delicious food! We particularly liked the basil "chicken." Dumplings were on the doughy side, but still good! - Friendly and prompt staff - Very clean and cozy atmosphere Cons: - Honestly, nothing that I can think of!

I haven't been here in 9 years and I miss this place every day. I think about their pork dumplings the way most people think about a lost love. If you are in park slope and you go anywhere else for Chinese food you are making the worst mistake. Go here and never let them go.

I always enjoyed their food - especially the noodles and vegetarian chicken, and they have a reasonable lunch special. But I have a huge appreciation now for the staff for working with me to cater and deliver lunch for a group of my students. I'm sure it was a small potatoes situation for them, but it was pretty significant for us, and they made sure that everything came as promised, on time, and hot. It was enjoyed by all. Thank you!

Great service and food! We called in takeout the old fashion way- right from the phone! It came in under 45 minutes and was great because the tip goes directly to the business/delivery guy and not a third party. Everything was hot and fresh. We ordered veggie lo mein, the seafood delight, shrimp egg rolls, the chef's special ginger fish fillets, and the crispy honey chicken. The seafood delight was true to its name! Steamed in a flavorful sauce, meant to be poured into a crispy noodle bowl (that actually remained enact through delivery!) . Pretty fun to eat. I truly loved the chef's special ginger fish fillets. The fish was fried crispy then covered in a bright, savory ginger sauce with peas and pieces of shredded ginger in it. Super tasty. My BF loved the honey crispy chicken, reminded me of general tso's but different. Can't go wrong with some lo mein and eggs to sop up all the flavors. Will definitely order again and try out some other menu options.

Best Chinese delivery in the area. Every time I order, the person on the other end of the line is friendly and delivery is super fast. I usually get the chicken and broccoli with garlic sauce and Szechuan wontons. Both are delicious.

I tried to find the words to describe the food that I received and it is: CRAPTASTIC. This restaurant has high marks because the food is delicious and fresh. WTF happened??!! I was so disappointed. The broccoli in the shrimp and broccoli was brown, wilted and over cooked. I believe the duck I was served died of old age. Who knew you could get duck this tough and dried out. I wound up throwing $40 worth of food in the garbage because it was inedible.

Just finished a pick up order and it was surprisingly fantastic! The broccoli and beef was fresh and tasty and the dried string beans were crunchy and flavorful and even the veggie lo mein was much better than expected and shrimp dumplings were not over cooked. Thanks HD for not over cooking!

CRISPY. HONEY. CHICKEN. My wife and I love this place. So happy that we found a nice Chinese takeout spot. The menu isn't so different from a typical Chinese greasy spoon, so what makes them different? EXECUTION. INGREDIENTS. The food actually tastes fresh and not like it's been in the freezer for weeks. It's also not overloaded with oil and MSG. I believe it's family run, and you can tell why it's been around for a while. Very nice humble people. Delivery is super fast!

Expectations weren't terribly high going into Hunan Delight, as it was a paid-for dinner with classmates and faculty, and that the names of most Chinese restaurants in this area follow a generic formula combining the name of a place in China + a word that invokes the senses (Case in point, the two closest Chinese take-out joints on my street in Greenwood are aptly called "China Delight" and "Taste of China.") Makes you wonder if there's an algorithm that all aspiring Chinese restauranteurs use, based on availability Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised. The folks at Hunan Delight excel at making Chinese (or "Chinese-inspired", if you're a purist) dishes that are friendly to the American palate. None of the dishes I had here were so unique I could not have found them on another standard menu, but they were all well-made--from the dumpling appetizers to their Peking duck (which was cooked to perfection but served without the tangy plum sauce--a glaring omission!) It's as if they surveyed the competiton in their neighborhood and decided that they would one-up them. The service here too was remarkable, considering we had almost 30 guests and orders flying left and right. I won't have dreams about this place, but it was solid and I would definitely come back here if I were in the mood for Chinese and feeling particularly risk-averse.

Solid, delicious American-Chinese food. I ordered the BBQ ribs, beef broccoli, and beef chow fun. Very standard and basic fast food, which they nailed 100%-I loved it! The flavor and texture was very on point. The chow fun was nice a chewy, not over cooked and mushy like other places. It was also dry-which is classic Cantonese and not drowned in gravy (totally Americanized version). I wished they had scallions or chives in it, but the shredded carrots and onions added a nice crunch. The beef broccoli was nice and perfectly cooked. The broccoli was crunchy and the beef was nice and tender. So yummy. The ribs were a bit sugary sweet and not honey sweet like I am used to, but it was good nonetheless. I definitely would order here anytime the craving for American-Chinese food strikes.

CRISPY HONEY CHICKEN. I repeat, CRISPY HONEY CHICKEN. It was so good. Sweet, saucy, crunchy, and a huge portion. It came with white rice and I could eat it for days. My partner had the chicken and shrimp combo platter which he liked but I didn't care for it. The menu was big so it was hard to choose a dish but I think I chose the best one. I loved the hot green tea served. We dined late on a weekday afternoon and it wasn't crowded at all. The restaurant is pretty big and the service was great. The plates were a little pricy, but it was a nice treat. We also tried an egg roll (not pictured). It was perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and stuffed with flavor on the inside. I recommend this place and would like to return, though I probably wouldn't try something new since I loved the crispy honey chicken so much!

Solid Chinese-American classics. Our go-tos are chicken and broccoli and honey crispy chicken (mixed between General Tso/Sesame Chicken sauce). Good egg rolls, fried chicken wings, and they even give you a crunchers & fortune cookies. Highly recommended!

I'm sorry but this food is just not good - even the brown rice didn't taste right. We ordered wonton soup and the wontons were thick and doughy. The broccoli in the broccoli with garlic sauce was mushy. The vegetable moo shoo was just not yummy and the pancakes were stale.

I have dined here and ordered takeout from here. The food is overpriced but I like to do my part in supporting local business. My to-go order from last time will not lead me back here again. The customer service isn't doing this place any favors. Ordering to-go, my friend and I walked to the Old Stone House, looking to eat on one of the picnic tables. As we were ready to eat, it turns out they forgot utensils. We were frustrated, but hey, innocent mistake. We walked back to Hunan Delight to ask for utensils. We were told that they don't offer utensils and pretty much made it seem like it was our fault for not telling them. Getting in touch with the restaurant's social media, we were told they were not offering utensils because they were going "green." This is an obvious lie in trying to be cheap. If they were going green, why would they pack everything in plastic containers? Why were they packed in plastic bags? This made no sense. This is the only restaurant in Park Slope where I have experienced this. I will be visiting other Chinese restaurants that are better and not overpriced.

Go to takeout/delivery option in Park Slope. Only take orders over the phone. Haven't missed with a single dish and at this point I've tried everything from the soups, to the noodles, to the curries, to the staples like General Tzos chicken. Haven't missed once. Best takeout Chinese in the neighborhood.

I have been ordered from Hunan Delight for years. Their food is always excellent...but their new line of curry dishes are truly wonderful. Their curry noodle soup -- some of the best I've ever had. They never disappoint.

I LOVE this place. Best casual Chinese takeout/ dine-in place in the area by a landslide. I have a slightly unpopular opinion about casual Chinese take-out places in the NYC metro area (a cuisine style very dear to my Jewish heart). I find that when I am in northern NJ/ on Long Island and I stumble into a random place, there is a 99% chance of it being amazing. In the 5 boroughs despite people here claiming everything is somehow better- the chance of it being good seems to always drop down to around 50%. Same goes for pizza and bagels. This place however reminds me exactly of what it is like to get take-out from a good place in northern NJ or Long Island. It is just solidly good and reliable. I appreciate their existence very much, because there is A LOT of not so good places out there in Brooklyn/ some of the other boroughs. Of course I am not talking about areas like Sunset Park, which is amazing- but rather the specific category of American-style casual Chinese take-out food, which is what I've learned to love so much since I was 4 years old.

This has been our go to Chinese take out for years. Reliably good and incredibly fast. They keep your account by phone number so never a problem with incorrect address like I have had with others. So quick my friends and I used to say they must be cooking it up in the backseat of the car as they were on the way to deliver. Our favorites include steamed shrimp dumplings, hot & sour soup (just the right spicy kick) chicken with ginger, tofu with vegetables. Yum. Friendly and appreciative delivery people as well.

Not a huge fan of Chinese food but Hunan is always good. - Fast, Fast (take out or sitting down) - Food is always great. No complaints on that end - Staff is friendly - Inexpensive - Overall experience is 5/5 - Can be fairly busy but not to the point of having to wait on a line - The outdoor seating in the summer is always amazing

Sometimes sugary-sauced sesame chicken, pork fried rice and fried pork dumplings are the only things that can ease the pain of the Rangers losing yet another overtime game. Hunan Delight has you covered here. It isn't winning any awards, but it's cheap, delivery is quick, and it's the best of its ilk in the Slope. Also, eating it on a regular basis will probably speed you on your journey toward obesity, if you're getting impatient.
