Authentic Chinese food! The food is always fresh and flavorful. Great prices and nice portions. Very friendly customer service. We grab lunch and dinner from here at least 2x a week. My favorite dish, being the chicken w/ mixed vegetables combo w/pork fried rice as pictured. Homemade egg & spring rolls.I love the wonton soup too! So good !!

This should get no stars at all. Went in a few hours ago, waited forever to be seated, and no waiter ever came to our table even though they were actively circulating in the dining room looking after other customers. Maybe because it was Sunday afternoon, maybe not fully staffed, or whatever, but never getting waited on and ending up walking out should never, ever happen, at any restaurent anywhere.

Hung’s Shanghai made my day when I ordered. I came into the restaurant and it looked so clean and the service was fantastic. They were so kind and friendly and I will definitely be coming back. I ordered their General Tso’s combo and it was delicious, the rice, chicken, and egg roll were delicious. My order also came out super quick and it was piping hot. I devoured my food and it tasted like heaven. They also have these homemade almond cookies that were pretty good. The food was not only delicious but very cost friendly. Hung’s Shanghai will definitely be my new go to spot. :)

"Superb Chinese Food" This pretty restaurant serves extraordinary tasty food. I have been twice at this restaurant this year. The first time was for my birthday and today was to say farewell to a recently promoted colleague. We all ordered different dishes from the menu. The dishes held nice portions which somehow were just perfect. While there, you will realize that the waiter always provide water and a nice ceramic kettle with hot tea, plus some crunchy fried kind of bread and two types of sauces. One seems to be mustard with wasabi ( I guess, because of the taste) and the other ones is sweet ( deadly good) All dishes we ordered were amazing and the bill was crazy affordable. Parking is on the back of the restaurant, but if you are lucky, you might find some parking spaces on the front of the building as well. Our waiter was pretty nice and helpful. By the way he uttered some phrases in Spanish, that was a Plus.

This is a nice place for lunch or dinner. I've been coming here since the 80s. The food is always great, the owners are wonderful, and the place is always clean. I highly recommend Hung's.

Very understanding staff when we came with friends and we had a lot of small children. Great food too!

We been coming to this restaurant with my girlfriend since i moved to NJ and it’s been the best one so far, the server is really nice he remembers our order everytime and we never get disappointed, definitely you should give it try! 🔥🔥

We had an early dinner on a Friday. Street parking was available and they have parking behind the restaurant. The restaurant deals mostly in take-out, which would explain why we were the only guests in the worn out dining area. The food was good and plentiful. The pork fried rice was the best I ever had, mostly because of the crispy bean sprouts and tasty sauce. The Gen Tso Chicken was on par with competitors. My husband had sizzling beef with veggies, he said it was very good. That said, we can award this establishment only 3 stars because of the lousy service and generic pot of tea. Our server was on the phone for at least 10 minutes while we waited to order. He was very loud and annoying, maybe because the conversation was in Chinese, which is painful to listen to with our American ears! When he finally came toward our table to take our order, the phone rang again. He abruptly ignored us and answered the phone instead, which took up another 5 minutes in very loud Chinese. When he finally returned to take our order he never apologized for the delay. When our meals finally arrived, the server sat in a back corner of the dining room on his cell phone the whole time we were eating, speaking loudly in Chinese, and for some time after we were done. He never bothered to ask if everything was OK, or if we needed anything. But he was Johnnie on the Spot to gives us the bill. If you want their food, choose takeout because that option got decent service, which we could see from our table. Another reason for only 3 stars: no traditional Shanghai buns.

Went in on a Thursday afternoon about 2:00 pm for lunch. There were three of us and we wanted to give this place a try since it was a Chinese eat in restaurant. The place was empty and we were seated quickly. Our server immediately gave us wonton strips, duck sauce and a pot of tea. We ordered lunch combinations of Beef and Broccoli, Shrimp and Broccoli, General Tso Chicken, hot and sour soup and Yat ago Mein soup. Combination special came with egg rolls and wonton soup. Soups were really good. Just wish they were a little hotter in temperature. Egg rolls were very hot and tasty. Our meals were also delivered hot. The shrimp and broccoli and beef and broccoli lacked some flavor. The general tso chicken had no spice to it. But the rice served with our meals were excellent. So flavorful!!! We also had green tea and pistachio ice cream and they were good as well. Would definitely come back to try other items on the menu.

excellent food! best Chinese food in NJ. Fried rice was good. General tso chicken was good too (white meat tho and I put sesame seeds) Food was nice and fresh, and the customer service was 10/10! Everyone don't hesitate to try this place as I will be coming back regularly from now on!

We ordered take out from here and we asked that our chicken be either sauté or steamed but not fried. They called to confirm and our sesame chicken was delicious and a bit healthier. We ordered sesame noodles, sesame chicken, and chicken in a white sauced with snap peas and broccoli. Everything was great and not too greasy. Will be ordering from here again.

Guys don't bother. This place isn't really a Shanghainese place, they don't have Shanghainese dumplings, nor Shanghai stir fried noodles, nor really anything that actually is a 'staple' at a Shanghainese restaurant. You could easily just do any kind of Chinese take out place and save yourself the trouble of coming here. They're also severely under staffed, so food takes a long time and service is slow.

If you live anywhere within 25 miles (or heck, even further!) of Scotch Plains , NJ this restaurant should require no introduction. I'm talking about Hung's Shanghai Restaurant. I realized tonight that I'm coming up on 40 years of enjoyment of their incredible food and friendly service. I'm a retired Chef and Chinese cuisine is my absolute favorite to eat and to cook. I enjoy Authentic Chinese cooking and Authentic Chinese American equally. These days it's getting easier to find Authentic Chinese Cuisine like Szechuan and Dumpling and Noodle houses , but at the same time quality , old school Chinese American restaurants seem to be fading away from the culinary landscape. Now, I'm not labeling Hung's as strictly Chinese American, but there are aspects of what they do, for instance, make their own duck sauce; a very Chinese American item that gives a nod to the old school Chinese American cooking that's had its humble beginnings in Chinatowns in California and New York City over a century ago. Most often times, the first major thing that separates one (insert Cuisine here) restaurant from another is the quality of ingredients, and Hung's doesn't cut corners in this area. Good quality in equals good quality out in the final dish. The second thing is technique and the respectful nature in which they handle each ingredient. You can taste this philosophy in the food at Hung's Shanghai. The Wonton soup broth, for instance tastes like chicken, the String Beans in Garlic Sauce are served crisp tender, the Beef and Scallions is lovely with tender beef and crisp scallions in a brown sauce that is appropriately thickened and not greasy or gloppy as is often the case at almost every other Chinese restaurant I've been to. By the sounds of this review, you'd think I was reviewing a fine dining restaurant, but quite honestly, if I could give them an award or a fireworks show, or a parade, I would, they deserve it!

Ordered the sesame chicken combo platter. For ~$15 you get a spring roll, choice of rice type, chicken and a few broccoli. The food was ready fairly quickly, and was steaming hot when I arrived. The chicken was well covered in sauce and the meal is overall a great value.

I got take out from this Chinese spot. It was just alright. I got the General Tsaos lunch special and it lacked flavor, tasted bland. I ate it because they delivered to my work and it was enough. I don't think I will be ordering from here again though.

Worst saltiest Chinese food ever! i ordered the pork fried rice it was drenched in soy sauce i couldn't eat it and 2 vegetables spring rolls both drenched in Oil. yuk!!!' 18 bucks thrown in the Garbage stay away this was my second time giving them a chance . i'm like who in the world can continuously screw up Rice!

Can only comment on takeout. Had I eaten at the place, I would have sent back 3 of the 4 dishes and ask that they be seasoned. I don't remember the last time food was so bland. Two of the dishes were noodle dishes, tasteless. The third was eggplant in garlic sauce. There was not a hint of garlic. The sweet and sour chicken was passable but the sauce was way too sweet and no hint of anything else. Last, the egg rolls were way too small but also tasted like eating a shell. The positives were that the order was ready on time and packed neatly.

Their dumplings were much too doughy and I would not order them again. But the shrimp and veggies and beef & broccoli were good. I would have liked to have some crispy noodles, chopsticks in my order.

Loved the service and vibe of the place. Nice people with the typical Chinese restaurant kind of feeling. Place was VERY busy on Sunday (both take out and the restaurant part), but we got seated right away. Food was okay. They had a lot of tofu options so I liked that - but it was a little over fried. Overall not bad at all, I'd come back for sure.

Thank you, Hung's for delicious and safe takeout during COVID! I have enjoyed the food from Hung's for decades. The chicken is tender, the flavors are balanced, and the portions are generous. Additionally, Hung's has a thoughtful and smart setup for contactless takeout to protect customers and staff. A takeout window was created at the front door for contactless pickup. It is equipped with a door bell to get service, a microphone, hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes, a slot to enter your credit card, and a compartment to receive your food.

Ordered takeout and halfway through eating, found a bug in my food. Shame because the food was good tasting otherwise, but I couldn't stomach eating anything else. Threw the rest out

In two years working in Scotch Plains, I only had the opportunity to try Hung's once. I wish I had eaten here more often though! I tried the spicy shanghai noodles with pork and they were awesome. Similar in style to dan dan noodles from *gag* PF Chang's *gag* but way more flavorful. I definitely would visit again based on that dish alone.

Pretty bad Lo Mein drenched in soy sauce. Chicken was not edible. Couldn't find 1 vegetable in it. Would not order again.

I don't know where to begin. I am ASTONISHED that 'chinese' food this bad can still exist in 2023. My brother in law insisted it was solid and we ordered. First red alarm, the menu is replete with not-chinese 'chinese' dishes like egg foo yung, chop suey, etc. Garbage american-chinese creations like this were what americans ate in the 1950's. Who the hell eats this garbage today especially within spitting distance of NYC!?! I ordered the 'roast pork chow fun'. What I got was a bunch of american wide egg noodles from the bag like you would use for tuna noodle casserole (ie not real fun noodles) with slices of the ubiquitous bbq pork 'char siu' but not the good kind where a pig is slow roasted. No its the kind they sell at the supermarket deli next to the potato salad. The kind that's dyed with red dye and sliced. not good but not bad usually. HOWEVER the pork in the dish was still in the thick slices mode like when they serve it to you as its own dish with mustard. It had an off smell. it was clear to me they took old charsiu that they usually serve on its own and threw it into my 'roast pork cow fun' they couldn't even be bothered to chop up the old charsiu. they just threw it in in whole slices. again bad smell to the pork it was turning bad. to top it off they absolutely DROWNED everything in what was a sauce comprised of 80% ketchup. no discernible veggies despite being billed as having veg and that was a big reason why i chose it. everything else was garbage too. the dumplings are WAY to doughy and some of the worst ive ever had. i mean zero stars if i could leave it. The empty 50lb container of MSG by the dumpster says it all. HARD PASS.

The food has really changed. They are charging outrageous prices but skimping on the food. I ordered pork fried rice and the pork was half the size it use to be. The quality of the food has really changed you get half of what you use to get. The fried rice use to have plenty of fixings in it but not no more. You'll be lucky if you get 5 shrimps in your rice. I've been a loyal customer for over 20 years. Look like I'll have to fine another Chinese place

Love this restaurant! It's local to everything needed within town. Their food is better than the old Rice Inn and I loved the old Rice Inn. Hung's fried rice and lo mein use the soy sauce based sauce instead of the oil. Love everything on the menu. The dining area is very quaint and it's a great place to stop by to eat when in town.

Food was disgusting. No taste . The won ton dumplings were not even cooked and the inside of it was questionable mystery meat. Shrimp was awful . Don't waste your money . The front desk rep is so rude on top of all that !

Chinese food here on the east coast is as common as French fries . Some places are horrible or basic. Hungs makes you wanna jump over the counter and kiss the chef. It's delicious. Not oily. Comfort food. Got together with my family yesterday after a day of cleaning out the garage. We all voted on Chinese food. Man was this stuff good. I live about a half hour away and if I crave Chinese food again this is where I'm ordering from. Fresh ingredients. I can taste the ginger and garlic. Total yummm fest in my mouth. We ordered the basics, lomein, beef on a stick, scallion pancakes, shrimp rolls, fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, egg fu young, wings. Everything was tasty. I don't eat chow mein but we ordered it and everyone raved about it. If you're in the area ya gotta get something to eat from here

Your cashiers need to learn how to talk to people. If they don't know to speak to people they need to reconsider working in the customer service business

The best fried rice I've ever had in my life, truly. (Although don't tell my grandma I said that). I've had bad fried rice before - the kind where the rice is pale yellow and the meat is sparse, and you're not sure whether it ever touched a pan before your plate. Hung's Shanghai's house fried rice is a beautiful, deep brown that you know will be full of flavor. It looks like it came off the hibachi grill after marinating and sizzling in soy sauce with onions and garlic to perfection. There is so much beef, chicken, pork, and whole shrimp that you won't need to fight over the good parts with your boyfriend. They don't skimp on the veggies either. And they pack so much of it into the container that you wonder how they even managed to close it. This fried rice was a staple part of my childhood and every time I come back to visit my hometown I always order a quart to bring back.

Sorry to have to amend this previous review. After 3 subsequent visits, 2 dine in and one carryout, the initial experience reported above has not been replicated. Hung's unfortunately miss fired at every opportunity, from dry-out ribs to questionable attention to quality. Remember, this restaurant is not shy in the pricing of their offerings. It is my opinion that they may be becoming complacent and coasting on the momentum of their history. I would look forward to them revisiting their former brilliance.

I'm new to the area and decided to give this place a try. So far I've had the shrimp rolls, house fried rice, shrimp lo mein and BBQ ribs. The shrimp rolls are super fresh and delicious. The chicken in the house fried rice was weird and bland, but the pork and shrimp were pretty good. Lo mein was pretty standard, nothing special but will satisfy your craving. The BBQ ribs are served dry and would be better with sauce. Overall, if you're craving Chinese food this place should do the trick for standard classics.

This place is a triple threat: food was awful, staff rude and price was different from what was posted on line. Used to be good. No more.

We decided to try this place out last night since we live so close to it. We've moved in SPF 9 years! So, we walked and they sat us to our table, no type of greeting. "How many people"? Is what we got. We tried some of the items people mentioned on the reviews. House friend rice and a couple of other dishes. Im used to fresh Chinese food, unfortunately I didnt like my food was fresh. We didn't enjoy it the food at all. The service was not good at all, at it wasn't busy. Nit once did someone come around to ask how things were. We won't be going back. I wish them good luck though.

Food is delicious. Service was nice. Waiting time was awesome. Went in to carry out Vegetable egg foo yung and veggie spring rolls. Took about 15 mins for the whole visit.

We have been eating at Hungs for 40 years (different owners) and have enjoyed generally good food and good service. Last Saturday 11/9 we had the best tasting experience in over 40 years. We had takeout consisting of the 4 seasons delight, pork fried rice and beef lo mein. The 4 seasons delight was full of all the best chicken/pork/shrimp and brown sauce. The pork fried rice was not only very tasty but had plenty of pork and egg. The lo mein was excellent as usual. Not sure if it was a regular chef or a new one but please keep up the great cooking!! Great quality and attention to detail- food is unique and i have really come to enjoy the food. In fact i have like the food so much i have ordered outside of my usual Gen Tao... several times. says a lot about my comfort level w/ trusting they make great dishes.

I agree with Sam K.'s 2 star review regarding takeout. Rice was over cooked, pepper steak was under cooked and tough, peppers were raw and not enough gravy. The fresh fried noodles were burnt to a crisp and I had to throw out the entire bag. There usually is an issue when you order takeout there, but this was the worse. Since I don't live near the restaurant any longer, I will not make a special trip for take out from them again. You never really have a problem with your order if you dine in.

Ate here for the first time recently and was very pleased with my meal. Have lived in town for years, but never ate here until recently. The food was delicious, the service was good and its a byob!! Definately worth trying!

The Wonton soup is watery. The wontons taste homemade, but a bit gummy, not as good as the wonton soup at Hunan Wok III in Westfield. The homemade spicy egg rolls were good, but the veggie spring rolls were greasy. The homemade crispy noodles are crunchy and delicious, the real deal, served with homemade mustard and duck sauces. Watch out! The mustard is very strong. The flourescent, day-glo sauce on the citrus chicken was over-thickened with cornstarch, but had a pleasing orange-pineapple taste which wasn't too sweet, and the breaded chicken meat was tender and not greasy, with a subtle citrus flavor of its own. The cubes of homemade firm tofu were pretty shriveled up after wok-frying, but still tasted delicious, however the brown sauce was just a little too rich and thick for this delicate dish. Young Chow white fried rice is just right, with tender shrimp, ham cubes, nicely-cooked egg, and vegtables. The Mongolian beef was pretty good. Tender, with flavorful sauce and plentiful mei fun noodles on the bottom. The double cooked pork had a spicy kick, but the meat was a little chewy, and it needed more soy sauce to balance the heat. The chicken in black bean sauce was very bland, almost tasteless. The family that runs this place are very nice, and sevice is quick. Maybe not the best Chinese food I've ever had, but a bit above average for around here.

Hung's has been my favorite Chinese restaurant for as long as I have been eating solid food! I don't live in New Jersey anymore, but a trip back isn't complete without at least one trip to Hung's- the food is ridiculously delicious and the staff is extremely friendly. The wonton soup and steamed dumplings are my favorite starters- the soup has more flavor than most other restaurants' -- the broth has a lot of flavor as does the meat in the wontons. (The crispy noodles that come with the soup are also quite tasty.) my favorite entree is the chicken chow fun- the noodles have just the right amount of sauce, and the sauce is the perfect consistency (not too thick, but not runny.) Overall I HIGHLY recommend Hung's, if you couldn't already tell ;)

The hot and sour soup here is sweet... That's doing it wrong!!! They also do not have any Chinese menus. Unforgiveable offense!

You've GOT to be kidding! Went there for the first time last evening. The "happy waitress" will never be on their menu. Pu Pu platter for two was sad, very sad. Spare ribs were barely warm, the meat on a stick tasted like it had been stuck on those 2 sticks since last spring, shrimp toast was pasty and if there were no tails hanging out of the batter we would not have known they were fried shrimp. Next the Peking Duck at $38+ for two. Now this is where it gets good. "Happy Waitress" sets down the duck. What made me reach over and touch the skin I'll never know. But it was cold. Not luke warm, but cold, like it had just come out of the refrigerator. Then I stuck my finger underneath to check out the meat....cold. I actually made my dinner company and HW stick their fingers into this poor duck. Yes, HW said, the skin is very cold but the meat not so much. She advised us not to eat the skin. Huh? After a short conversation she took the duck back to heat it up. Not in the microwave I said. Oh no, she was going to do it under the heat lamp. The duck returns and the skin is burnt. Burnt to a crip. Curly, cripsy duck skin. Again she advised us not to eat the skin. So I asked if she were going to reduce the price of the dinner because part of it was now not edible. No she said. Well then lets take it back to the chef and he can eat it. She takes it away and brings our butterfly shrimp. I'm used to getting 6 butterfly shrimp, last night we get 4. Okay. Fine. We ate them. They were good but tiny, flat, skiny shrimps. In place of the peking duck we ordered General Tso's Chicken. We ate half. Threw in the towel and asked for the check. The check was brought to us by a tall guy we hadn't seen up to that point. He put the bill on the table and picked up the bill and my charge card. Not once did he even look at us or say "Thank You." Nothing. Zip. Laid it down, picked it up, scurried away each and every time. And since when does a restaurant give you a check with no itemized bill? Too disgusted I mentally totalled up a bill in my head and figured it was pretty much on target. Paid the bill. Left no tip. And out the door my companion and I went. Once we got to the sidewalk out comes the tall guy. Scolding us because we forgot to put a tip on the bill or on the table. You're joking I said. Lousy service, lousy food and you guys want a tip? So he starts screaming we weren't allow to come back. That was a joke right? He thought we would come back. Now if anyone wants really good chinese take-out, try the Panda House on South Avenue in Garwood, across from the Garwood Mall. 908.789.0033. The food is excellent, (and hot) and the service is top notch. And they ALWAYS say thank you.

Hung's is the standard by which I compare all other Chinese restaurants. The food is excellent, and the service is fast. The dining room is never terribly crowded and is pretty quiet. I have gone to Hung's many times over the years, and have never been disappointed with a meal or the service.

Huang's has some of the best fried rice I've ever had. Not that yellow rice with peas and carrots - I mean real fried rice like in Chinatown! Also the General Tao chicken is superb. Meaty and not just doused with breading like most places. I've only had take out here so I cannot comment on dine-in service but I would say that the place is pretty dated. Also I've used the restroom here, which was very bright and clean.

Worst chinese meal i ever had. I ordered tofu and broccoli and was the least amount of food id ever seen on a plate with boring sauce. I was shocked it could be so poor and even leave a kitchen. Id been there for lunch specials and take out but i will never return again. I should have taken a photo of it. Anyway this is my first yelp comment. Was Very motivated to write it. One star is too much. I see from other reviews im not alone. This place has gone way down hill.
