(1). I have been a customer to shop at the Hung Vuong Food Market located at 1122 Washington Ave., Phila., Pa 19147 for yrs including the yrs operated by the previous owner. (2). I like to stipulate the facts that I was so embarrassed, misled, no customer service common courtesy, & treated like a secondary citizen to the public by the Customer Service Rep., & her higher up in the afternoon on Fri., 06/13/2025. (4.) I simply went to the store to request a refund with the paid receipt & the food item itself in good faith to show that the food item was Entirely Molded, & the label indicated to “keep refrigerated”, “No date for the best use on the Label” either. (5.) I was told, face to face, by the said Customer Service staff as it follows: A. No, it’s too long after the food item was bought. Pls see the receipt. B. No, the item should have been stored in the freezer. Pls see the information on the Label. The food item Wasn’t in the freezer in the store when the item was bought by me. C. No Refund! The said higher up stated that the food item could be exchanged this time Only, and No Exchange or Refund if it happens again! D. And the said higher up further stated that it’s OK if it’s reported to the police (She meant, Authority, City of Phila., Department of Health, Food Protection.) E. It’s shameful that the poor customer service consideration, no common courtesy, don’t care attitude were all demonstrated to the public! The results are just hurting customers/people, business, communities, & divides our good culture from where we are from & in the U.S. They take advantages of my good nature. Pls respond.

The supermarket provides a convenient solution for my needs, offering a comprehensive selection of Asian groceries. Furthermore, its proximity to dining options allows for a post-shopping meal.I am dissatisfied with the current parking arrangement, particularly the practice of individuals soliciting tips for parking assistance. This behavior is perceived as counterproductive and detrimental to the overall customer experience. I would suggest reevaluating the parking management strategy and considering alternatives, such as reverting to previous practices, to enhance customer satisfaction.

This is one of the two markets i visit down in south philadelphia every couple of months to get my dried mushrooms and tea always an amazing selection and great prices, it is a little tough to navigate if you don't speak Vietnamese or Spanish if you have speech to text that helps and Google Lens is a big help. I was searching for milk mushrooms which I found also matcha tea. And brought the family some international sweets for the holiday Almond cookies and japanese rice cakes Yum!!

Good place for shopping food, fresh, good prices and a lot of choices! But there is something that I can not understand. Today I carry my own shopping bag with me because I not want to used plastic bags . I the guy who sit at the door to enter market stop me and ask me have to leave me empty shopping bag at his table if I wanna shopping inside?! Check in my empty without any number or something for later I check out my bag ?! I saw a lot of people that carry they back bag handbags... and I can carry empty one ?! Do they think I come here to steal a lemon or a chilly pepper? Or those people if they bad they can’t steal something and put it in their bags? Or because they races me? Don’t take me wrong, I like to shopping here a lot but I hope that whoever in charge see this review and make thing better for everyone every shopper feel comfortable to shopping here!

We had so much fun exploring Hung Vuong Supermarket. After eating at Pho 75, it was the perfect after lunch stroll to explore all the variety that the supermarket offered. Not only were there fruits and vegetables that I have never seen in my life, there were a huge variety of seafood and meat offerings as well. Even the prepacked foods were fun. I highly recommend taking a stroll through Hung Voung Supermarket. Try something new and soak up the variety!

Long drive to get to the city but worth it!!! Plenty of parking space. The grocery store has everything we were looking for to cook delicious Vietnamese meals! Fresh produce and good prices. Also around in the shopping center good restaurants and bubble tea!!! 🧋

Google
The guy who does the roast duck and pork by the entrance went into the bathroom with his gloves on, the same gloves he wears when cutting the food… that is absolutely disgusting. I doubt he took off his gloves in the bathroom, so he touched himself, and the door handle where a ton of people touched, and then proceeded to touch the food that you are putting in your mouth… I am not buying their cooked food anymore 🤢

If you got kids it's a great museum/aquarium experience plus being an awesome asian grocery store. Good kitchenware, great produce, and such a selection of spices, pre-made noodle packets, (live) seafood, etc.

Yelp
Great market with good selection and quality. I have been going for years. More convenient than the markets in Chinatown because you can park on a private lot without a charge. The Philadelphia parking Authority is ruining Chinatown. The market is as clean and well kept and is better than average. The Chinese markets in Chinatown have a little bit better selection of some items, but you have to walk or take the bus or ride a bike because the Philadelphia parking Authority tickets cars like a bunch of vultures in a criminal style manner. This market also has a nice selection of Chinese ceramic pots, and some porcelain dishes and other useful items for the kitchen. We need to take back our streets and not elect any politician who won't commit to doing so.

Yelp
Hung Vuong has been a mainstay in South Philly for years, offering a diverse array of foods and groceries. The produce is fresh, and the store is well-lit. However, one complaint would be the restrooms, located near the entrance of the store. Dimly lit, it does the rest of the store a disservice. Like many businesses, the sinks have very weak water pressure. Normally, one would simply suck it up and accept it. However, a family member recently noticed a male employee quickly rinse his hands after using the facilities. With such weak water pressure, there's no way the worker was able to fully wash his hands. If this was an employee who was responsible for stocking shelves, it would already be unsanitary and gross if he was sneezing, lifting objects off the floor in areas with high foot traffic, etc. This particular employee was a butcher, someone who handles meats and prepared foods at the popular roast meats stall near the front of the store. I hope the store improves its water pressure for the sake of good hygiene and public health. This way, it can provide its staff with better opportunities to comply with legal standards of cleanliness. Respectfully, A loyal but disgusted customer

Yelp
Good store just wish there was ample parking. Parking lot tends to be full and so tight. Otherwise I'd say great place to be and enjoy food

Yelp
EXPERIENCE A great supermarket located south of the Italian Market. It's located within a Vietnamese-centered plaza surrounded by various restaurants and stores. The market offers a wide array of goods, from tableware, frozen goods, fresh produce, and snacks. It's a great place to stack up on Asian ingredients and staples at an affordable price. SERVICE Staff were kind and friendly. PARKING Parking can be difficult to find as spots are shared with neighboring restaurants and vendors.

Yelp
It's a huge asian supermarket. You can find a lot of things here. However, beware, this place using unmatched check out system with shelf price. A lot of items don't have price tag at all. We bought a bag of rice for 19.99美元 while the store website shows 16.99. We tried to explain the mistake with the sales, and found out she did not speak English at all.other items, sure having similar issues. Horrible p! Sofi

Yelp
Great Vietnamese Supermarket. Has a good variety of noodles, fruits and Asian desserts / snacks. You will find most Asian ingredients & sauces here. Veggies & Fruits are okay. Prices are good but double check them thoroughly as some might be passed expiration. Good selection of Asian cooking equipment & plates / chopsticks, etc. A whole section to pick out stuff. As others mentioned, Parking is a pain as the mall is cramped with so many stores & restaurants. At times, I would have to drive down a few blocks to park. But its still worth the visit for this slight hassle. It's a good supermarket. Don't expect a fancy Hmart or Whole Foods experience. It's a simple Asian grocery store to refill your instant noodle collection. Enjoy. Tip : Bring your own shopping bag(s) as Philly has the plastic bag ban in effect.

Yelp
good place with everything you will need at great prices. Will come back again in the future

Yelp
I come here when I need a specific ingredient for a recipe I'm making. I definitely don't come here for the fresh produce, because it's usually not fresh. The meats are also not the best, but they do have a butcher area with a large selection if you're looking for something specific. They also have area on the side with roast duck/chicken/pork. I've tried it once and will not be going back. This is a large super market that stock lots of hard to find ingredients and thats their strongest appeal. There's also a private parking lot which is a plus compared to Chinatown markets.

Yelp
My friend and I stopped by before heading out of Philly to pick up snacks and dry goods. They have a parking lot available but there's often a line of cars waiting to get in. I recommend just turning the corner and finding street parking. Once inside there's fresh produce, and boxes of Asian goodness staring back at you. Asian grocery stores can be overwhelming if you don't know what you're looking for and this is no different. They have an awesome fresh seafood and butcher available along with all your standard produce. I give this spot three stars mainly because of the brand selection which was lacking compared to other Asian grocery stores I've been to. Definitely a good spot to check out but you may not find everything.

Yelp
I love this supermarket for the variety of different greens they have - many different types of yu choy and bok choy (who knew there were so many different varieties of yu choy and bok choy!), Chinese broccoli, spinach, mustard greens, probably 25 different greens. Cilantro, leeks, scallions are a bargain. Tofu is good and well priced. Also good fruit including lots of things I don't recognize (and the names are in Chinese) but the sweet tangerines are the best. I also appreciate the great range of Asian spices and sauces. It has a live fish & shelfish market and pretty extensive butcher offerings, though I've not tried anything from there. I do occasionally get frozen shelfish. Prices are better than the other large Asian supermarket down at 6th & Washington, though the other one is larger and broader selection particularly in frozen seafood, but I like this better..

Yelp
Parking parking parking is always a problem in this shopping center, especially on weekends and holidays. If you re lucky enough, you will find a parking here. This market has mostly everything you need, and the price is affordable. This place does not take any cashes under $10. If you pay by card, make sure your items adding up more than $10.

Yelp
I'm from California. I went here because I needed ingredients to make hu tiếu, and they have it all. Pork neck bones ($1.50/lb), pork loin, fresh jumbo shrimp ($8/lb), hu tiêu and egg noodles, canned soup, dried onions, dried shrimp, daikon, cilantro, Chinese celery, scallions. They also had fresh live crabs, razor clams, live frogs, etc. Prices were very reasonable. Only complaint was while this place is supposedly Vietnamese, when I called them, they didn't speak it, and transferred me to two different people before one gentleman said they had neck bones. Parking lot in the plaza is a pain though.

Yelp
Great place Almost one stop shopping in Philadelphia so hope the new store In Christiana DE is comparable.

Yelp
Freshest market out of all the south Philly Asian markets. Price is sometimes higher than some surrounding markets for a certain items but I don't mind since their selection has always been fresh (I've shopped many times at the one on 6th street, 16th street, Oregon, etc and Hung Vuong is by far the best quality) Their roast meat stand inside the market guarantee to satisfied your roast duck and crispy pork any day. I contemplated subtracting a star for the crazy parking situation but it's not the market's fault that majority of the stores in that plaza are solid and offering fresh foods attracting a lot of clients. However, beware before you come that you may experience crazy parking and cars almost hitting each other. Avoid coming on Sunday since it's the worst day to come to this market due to said parking situation.

Yelp
The asian supermarket is clean and organized. They have a good variety of choices for a great price.

Yelp
It's an easy 10 minute walk here from work, so I thought I'd pop in and see what the what is in here. It's in a little plaza chock a block with other Asian restaurants and businesses. People here were not very helpful. I was unsure about a few of the Vietnamese products and when I asked questions, the staff just shrugged and didn't even speak. OK, so there's that. Otherwise, they actually had a very nice mix of good fresh produce and fruit, cheap as all get out. Their housewares, one of my favorite aisles to haunt in any Asian store, was fun to wander around in. There is also some sort of hot food served to order, but there weren't any signs that I could really see that described what were in any of the hot plates so maybe will try at a later time.

Yelp
I am a fan...sort of. Parking in the lot here or the Wing Phat mall is insane. The lot is extremely tight and cars are coming at you from every direction and most are on the inpatient side. One needs to move quickly and with purpose. Once parked, take a deep breath and exit your car. Gerald S. as usual wrote a great and detailed review of Hung Vuong Super Market. I can't really come close to his review, I won't even try. The supermarket is bright, fairly clean and huge. There are a lot of strange sights and smells and that is part of the charm for us Non Asians. I saw fresh Dorian fruit and Ramen noodles from Thailand, Indonesia and Korea wandering about waiting for my wife to buy some hard to find items. What I really liked about Hung Vuong Super Market is they carry Cafe du Monde coffee and it is very reasonably priced. A good deal less expensive then I was paying from Amazon prime. The check out staff was very friendly and surprisingly they do accept credit cards. Visit Hung Vuong Super Market, it is unique Asian supermarket. If it is not here I doubt it is any where in Philadelphia.

Yelp
Foodie paradise. I was on the market for some fish sauce, and by sheer size of their variety and selection (that extends to other products as well), I was able to find the brand I wanted. There's a fresh seafood and produce section as well, which is always fun to browse. Not to mention an insanely cheap hot food bar. It's a nice alternative to pricey suburban Asian markets or making your way to Chinatown in Center City. Parking on weekends seems to be a nightmare though, but we walked.

Yelp
I've been coming to this super market for god knows how long! Growing up in the suburbs of Philly, my mom would drag me out here on weekend mornings to load up on all the typical groceries every Chinese-Vietnamese house hold would need. Now as a grown ass adult I've continued this tradition of going to Hung Vuong to get all the goods to fulfill all my soup noodle cravings. This place has everything that you can probably think of. Roasted meats counter, typical viet snacks to go, fresh seafood, fresh meats and a ton of fruits and veggies and a bomb freezer section. They also perpetually have a sale for Cafe Du Monde coffee at 2 for 9 bucks or something like that so if you have a viet coffee addiction like me, you're welcome! I'm confident this has been mentioned before but the only major downside to all of this is: parking. Why yes, there is a parking lot but if you know, you know. If you don't know, let me know tell you: the Wing Phat Plaza parking lot is a flaming hot mess of epic proportions, especially on the weekends. So if you do plan on coming out here on a Saturday or Sunday, prepare for some minor grid lock. Otherwise, hit up Hung Vuong on a week day and come hungry because there's a fantastic variety of restaurants awaiting you all in the same plaza.
google avatar

Vickie S.

Yelp
If you are regulars who buy a cartful meat, fish, etc. you will be welcomed. While you browse inside, paying attention to prices and items, you may be stopped by staffs who ask "May I help you?" They would like to make sure that you are not stealing anything, nor taking images of prices. When I asked about soybean powder, one staff brought me to the selections, and stayed there watching me, pressuring me to make an decision. "So, are you going to buy?" I said I needed to compare with other stores, and looked into my phone to see prices at other stores. Then she sharply said, "I told you many times (she did not indeed tell me at all), do not take price photos." And again asked whether I would buy the soybean powder or not. She seemed to wish to say "if you do not buy, go away!" I assume they have shop lifters, but this kind of attitude to customers is completely unacceptable. I would not return to this store any more. Used to buy some asian items, while the veggies and fruits are in secondary or third quality. If you need bulk for a large family, there is still a reason to shop here. I would rather go to American supermarkets or other smaller asian groceries where staffs have minimum respects to customers.
google avatar

Jay M.

Yelp
Well-lit, clean, and fairly organized Asian market. There's a hot food section near the entrance, which serves items like crispy roast pork and boiled whole squid to stir-fried shrimp and spicy tofu dishes among other items. I love how they sell fruits that are not commonly found, but some of the produce clearly needed to be thrown out or somehow made into a dish. For instance, there was an entire *box* of rambutan on sale for around $3/ea on Thursday, but with a closer look, I noticed they were all soggy and borderline mushy. The jackfruit halves on display were also unappealing and clearly low quality due to the dark brown and wilted fruit and flesh in the middle. Many of their products are competitively priced, which is why I ended up doing a little grocery shopping. If anything, I'd definitely return for their seafood selection and deals. Everything I saw was fresh and relatively cheaper than other similarly-sized Asian markets. The parking lot in Wing Phat Plaza is small considering the number of businesses that share it, so you might end up waiting for a spot to open.

Yelp
5 - for selection 3 - for the price, some packaged items like rice/noodle, condiments, etc are ever so slightly $1 more expensive than Chinatown locations 5 - for Parking (although you might have to fight for it) Meat is typically the same affordable price as other Chinese supermarkets The veges are also about the same price, although the JieLan tend to be a bit of the longer kind, and I wish they had the smaller ones. They do have Snowpeas which is a nice touch. The apples that I tried to purchase last time were overall a pretty poor selection last week, but the good ones I found ended up tasting fine. 5 large Fuji's for $3. The dumplings are also $5.50 instead of $5 that I've seen in Chinatown. I'd say overall, for location/parking if that factors in for you, this is a great option for checking out if they have some of the classic Asian ingredients you've been looking for. They have lots of foods for Hot Pot, frozen food dumpling/scallion pancake options, etc. Tips/Takeaways: -Credit Card for over $10 -The items you can store in freezers or at room temp are slightly more expensive than Chinatown -Wide variety of items -Parking available

Yelp
The best grocery store in Philly - fresh and cheap! We've been in Philly for a few months and so glad we found this gem. We literally come here weekly for our groceries - they have seafood, meats, Chinese snacks, veggies (super fresh and cheap), fruits, sauces, you name it, they literally have it! Would highly recommend even if you're not looking for Asian groceries bc they'll probably have it!
google avatar

Jeannie S.

Yelp
This is one of the Asian super markets that my family and I have gone for quite a while until we moved to the suburbs! Even now, my parents still try to come here whenever possible. This place has a wider variety of Asian grocery and goods. I think they have a special price for certain dumplings, 3 for $8 packs. I know they give free things if my parents spend a certain amount there, which is nice! To me, they're just a tad bit cleaner than a few of the Asian grocery stores in south philly. The aisles and the shelves are fairly clean to the naked eye. They also have a fresh meat section where you can get freshly chopped roast pig, roasted pork, scallion chicken, soy sauce roasted chicken, etc... they sell by weight. I think they also have a takeout section too, seems new when I dropped by today. Parking lot isn't too big, so be prepared to wait a bit.

Yelp
Major renovations on going and rather smart and timely considering the increasing gentrification of this once seedy neighborhood. New shelves now run across rather than down and a new wall of refrigerated cases as well as open freezers line the left wall. Wet market is still in the rear but now boast a slick tiled wall and large refrigerated cases.Sea food section still smells like low tide but I venture that too is slated for renovation. Dry goods are a jumble of themes and not fully priced so I would give it a couple of weeks more before Hung Vuong is ship shape..... Can't wait as this is the best Vietnamese grocery in Philly.
google avatar

Shereen C.

Yelp
Update: Hung Vuong appears to be closing. Many items are 20% off (e.g., canned goods, oils and sauces, household items, etc.). There are other discounts around the store too. They still have vegetables and other foods, but as usual, check your produce for freshness. Service is not exactly friendly. On a $150 grocery bill, the cashier refused to give me the bonus gift that comes with a $35 purchase (even after I saw them & asked the grocery bagger about it). I saw her give the bonus gift to other customers with much smaller purchases. Not cool.
google avatar

Laura L.

Yelp
The inside was frozen me to death!!! The aisles are so narrow, you could hardly turn around without bumping into someone else, which was horrible especially during Covid-19!! The fruits and vegetables are not fresh and the staff there is super unfriendly and unwilling to help(they don't appreciate you shopping there and they don't treat you like a customer). I've been to various kinds of grocery stores and supermarkets, I felt happy after shopping at Trader Joe's, Fresh Grocer, Shoprite, etc. but I felt so unhappy after shopping at Hung Vuong Supermarket, I will never ever go there again!!!
google avatar

Yelp
If I need to hit an Asian grocery, butcher, fish monger, rice shop, or soy distributor, and can't get out of town to a H Mart, Hung Vuong Super Market in the Wing Phat Center will have to do. It has all I need in so many varieties that I start to lose perspective and wonder if there really is one special soy sauce for the specific dish I want to prepare, rather than one of many that would do quite nicely. Of course, I then search for a store employee to ask this question and he/she inevitably walks me down the aisle like a curator in a museum and pulls out a bottle and hands it to me with a look between bemusement and contempt that I didn't know what I was looking for. Mea culpa! Having spent a long time in Asia I know that this and other "super" markets exist there in much better condition and organization than Hung Vuong and the other big stores in the city. There, they don't smell, they are kept clean, offer better packaging and more refrigeration, and actually sell a wide variety of western products you don't find here. I generally avoid those modern conveniences and shop the outdoor markets to find the specific item I want at the vendors who specialize in those things. After all, I am a foreign traveler because I like the traditional ways of doing business. Those outdoor or night markets are not to be found regularly around here, so I accept that Hung Vuong and its siblings down the street and in Chinatown, are as good as it gets. Luckily, I enjoy the experience enough to make it all worthwhile. These days I am working my way through all the bottled chili sauces to find the few I like best. I should complete my research sometime around 2018.

Yelp
They have shot themselves in the foot! During the covid19 crisis they have shortened their hours so that they are now too dangerously crowded to enter. They will go under in a month

Yelp
Years and years of Yelp reviews and there are still places that I've been going to my whole life that I haven't reviewed. What the hell? Anyway, if you need Asian groceries, seafood, or meat from an actual butcher counter where they still do the cutting in-house, Hung Vuong has what you need. I've been coming here since the 90s, and it was always a no frills place - but with the recent renovations, everything is a lot cleaner and more organized than it used to be. I get whole briskets here for smoking, beef and pork bones for broth making, and a whole lot of other things that most of my local supermarkets just don't bother stocking anymore because most people never buy that stuff. And, it'll beat the price of almost any other place I can think of. Stay cool, Hung Vuong. Pro tip: have lunch at any of the great restaurants in the same plaza before you do your shopping, or you might buy the whole supermarket.
google avatar

Ky T.

Yelp
I usually never go here but the recent renovation was a huge upgrade. Parking is still TERRIBLE though. I was really impressed by this asian supermarket. All of the shelves are fully stocked to the edge with labels facing out, something you never see. Everytime I've been here, there were employees constantly cleaning and stocking/straightening the shelves. The produce, seafood and meat department offer more than the other asian supermarkets. They carry giant oysters and live crawfish at very reasonable prices when in season. The checkout lanes still move slow though. I only stop here when the parking lot is no more than half full
google avatar

Rosy V.

Yelp
Perfectly nice Asian supermarket, prices are good and they pretty much have everything you ever need for Asian cuisine, all except Japanese specialty items. (example: okinomiyaki sauce & etc.) The only reason for the -1 star is the cleanliness. The bathroom is ultra disgusting...but then again (sorry but it's the truth) most Asian MARKET restaurants are gross...If you really really need to go I suggest getting a drink at one of the Vietnamese restaurants nearby and using the bathrooms there. Don't ever think about going at the market. The cleanliness of the whole store is basically what you'll always find at almost any Asian market store (besides Korean and Japanese supermarkets), don't ask me why, it's just how it always is sadly. Otherwise the organization of the items are easy to find. Prices are great especially when you compare it to those up North Jersey. There are rarely any Asian supermarkets down in South Jersey (Atlantic City area) except for the one in Pleasantville and in that one the prices are slightly higher due to convenience. So prices are good in general. Other than that, this market is close to a couple of Vietnamese restaurants that are pretty good, so it's definitely convenient for shopping and eating. Parking however is horrendous. If you go on a weekend it'll be VERY hard to find parking unless you go during some obscure time. Or just avoid restaurant times. Noon and dinner time is usually when you fine the parking area packed.

S H.

Yelp
I appreciate that fact that I can find fruits and vegetables here that I can't else where. However, I have came here 3 times since the Covid-19 lock down, and Hung Vuong has completely ignored the 6 feet-distance, any sanitation protocols to limit the number of shoppers in the store. It was very stressful having people brush against you, reach in front of you to grab something (employees included), and to see how dirty the shopping baskets, refrigerated counter surfaces, and the check-out conveyor belt are--- as dirty as they've ever been. With the help of more conscientious customers to voice their complaints maybe we could change and elevate the sanitary standard of this supermarket. Please join me to call them! Our purse is our power for change! I don't want them to fail, but Hung Vuong needs to start caring about the safety of their customers, and implement rules about the 6 feet distance even when many of the customers are ignorant. If we all want businesses to reopen and STAY open with customers feeling safe spending their hard-earned money, THIS is the way to make it happen.

Yelp
Yelp bakers, if you're out there & looking for matcha Hung Vuong has the closest *and cheapest* I've found. Fante's, Essene, Spice Corner and Whole Foods all came up short. Sure you can order some online, but it's pricey. $10 for a canister of Chinese green tea powder - so finely ground you'll get a nice poof in the face upon opening the air tight bag. Added bonus for finding the green tea in Hung Vuong? I was able to pick up some Asian market essentials - like a bag full of tiny salted sardines, fresh tofu, dashi, soba & a weird greenish pointy fruit. *Edit 8/2/11* The only negative was the $30 min for Amex cards ($10 min for Visa or Mastercard). Sadly I dipped into my Italian Market stash of cash to pay for my goods.

Yelp
One of the biggest advantages to living in South Philly is the ability to savor the grocery overload that comes as a result of living within such close proximity to so many different kinds of markets. And while I typically just go to Hung Vuong to appease my rooster sauce vice (just $3 for the HUGE bottles of sriracha!), its also my go to whenever I feel the need to peruse ingredients of the Asian persuasion. The one pratfall to it is that the meat and seafood section usually ends up having at least 6 items that either terrify and stare right back at me (or both!). But the produce section is decent, there's a good selection of condiments that go well beyond rooster sauce, ramen gets well elevated beyond what you had during your college power meals, and the tea and spice selections are pretty damn impressive. And everything is pretty inexpensive so you usually get those secret ingredients on the cheap.

Yelp
Great place to stock up on 50 lb bags of rice, as well as all your asian pantry staples. There is an abundance of live seafood. I was delighted to have several sizes of head-on shrimp to choose from, including some monster prawns for about $10 per lb. Meat dept. had some fresh Pork Bellies at a low-price...and, for those Fergus Henderson fans out there, every other part of the pig to boot! My favorite finds were some Frozen Mangosteens and frozen sheets of paper-thin spring roll wrappers for .75 cents.

Yelp
Prior to my most recent experience, Hung Vuong was a solid 4-star super market. They offer a great selection Asian fruits and vegetable, which are typically fresh and flavorful. They prices aren't too crazy, the staff is helpful, and if you buy a decent amount of stuff you end up getting something extra for free. Can't beat free, right? So, what happened to drop it down a peg. We walked in a bit before closing. Yes, I hate doing that, but it was at least 15 to 20 minutes before closing and its not like they are a restaurant so I figured we'd be fine. Then, after we had a basket full of stuff and were deciding on which kinds of treats we wanted to get, we're rushed out by the rudest staff member I've encountered. He stated "closed" and pointed us out. I thought it might be a language barrier thing, so asked if we could check out. Again with the "closed" and now a forceful "get out" followed. I guess he missed the basket of stuff we had, because when I picked it up, his face dropped a bit. Still, he nearly took it from us rather than let us check out - seriously $50 worth of food and he doesn't want us to check out? Luckily, others in the store had common sense and let us purchase and leave. Look, I get it. It is the end of his probably very long day. That doesn't give you the right to ruin my day. It fact, it ruined the positive dinner experience we just left as well. JJ was rightfully steaming the entire ride home and evening. Yes, it might be harsh to let one experience drop a whole star, but it destroyed an otherwise great night!

Yelp
I really like this super market because of its close proximity to the BSL Ellsworth-Federal subway stop. The prices here are cheaper than H Mart in Upper Darby, and somewhat on par with 1st Oriental market that is also on Washington ave. The name of this market is Vietnamese, but the food within is a mixture of mostly Chinese with some Korean, Japanese, and Southeast Asian. The store music is Chinese, as well as the workers, so there must have been a change of ownership. It is definitely far more diverse than 1st Oriental market. I don't think I'll be going back to the H Mart because of the higher prices and of the shopping experience at the Upper Darby location.

Yelp
This place is awesome; you can grab so many cheap things here for prices much lower than regular chain stores. (Keep an eye out though, while some things are cheap, others are not. It's all about knowing your prices) As others have mentioned, parking is a nightmare. When I was leaving the other night, there were 2 people waiting for police to arrive since a fender bender had occurred. (Hint: walk/use public transport if possible!)

Yelp
One of the things I miss about California is the abundance of asian super markets, especially the chain, Ranch 99. That being said, Hung Vuong Super Market has been a great substitute and has pretty much everything I need to satisfy my cravings for asian food. The prices are soo cheap and there's a large variety of produce, noodles, fish, and spices/condiments. This place makes me want to make more dishes than I physically have time for. And sometimes, I wish I had the option of feeding an army -- just so I don't feel like a pig for buying so much stuff here. Hungry army, please apply here. :) P.S. - if you're a fan of Cafe du Monde (best cafe in New Orleans), they sell Cafe du Monde coffee here, and for a fraction of how much Whole Foods charge.

Yelp
Incredible variety of east Asian fresh produce and grocery. The store is clean and well organized. Prices are excellent. Highly highly recommend.

Yelp
Not a bad supermarket, as things go. Definitely more a Viet-based super market than anything... water isn't exactly where I expected it, but there's fresh seafood, random single drinks, and more snacks than I can shake a stick at available. Not a place to grab much outside of Asian food, though.

Yelp
Living in Center City, Hung Vuong is a market oasis for a huge number of different types of cuisine. Their prices are reasonable as far as Asian supermarkets, but plain glorious among Center City supermarkets. They have many of the standards that you'd come to an asian supermarket for: Good rice in various forms, veggies like Yao Cai and onomiyaki mushrooms, dried and freeze-dried standards, pastes, noodles, sauces, candies; But the real star in my opinion is the fish and meat selection. These guys compete with the butchers and fishmongers in the Italian Market for restaurant biz, so the variety and freshness are a breath of fresh air compared to the "meat managers' specials" you get at Acme and others. However, be careful in the parking lot. I don't know what it is about this shopping center, but the drivers are insane.

Yelp
Produce not fresh...wilted & old. I would expect that there will be lots of fresh vegetables and fruits during the busy weekend. They used to be good prior to this new & cleaner store (perhaps new owners too)...plus lots of free items when you buy more than $100. NOT anymore...I will switch to the other supermarket past the Italian Market.

Yelp
Great place to get your Asian groceries! Some things here are SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than most grocery stores and others and SIGNIFICANTLY more expensive. You definitely have to know your prices before you go. I love that they have real Asian imported brands though! Definitely worth checking out!

Yelp
This used to be my favorite place to shop for Asian food but now, it's impossible to shop there because there's nowhere to park. It's a giant supermarket with surrounding restaurants and shops and yet only a small parking lot to support all that. Completely unsustainable.

Yelp
My impromptu trip to Hung Vuong inside of Wing Phat Plaza (best name ever) was truly a treat! It's Memorial Day today, and with my day off, I wanted to do some grocery shopping outside of my usual Whole Foods routine. So, I first headed to Reading Terminal Market (closed) and then over to the Italian Market (largely closed) before remembering that I wanted to explore this shopping area. I was walking up Washington, headed home when I saw that yellow awning and knew exactly where I was going next. Woohoo! And, man-oh-man, I was shopping WAY outside of my routine! First, I don't really buy desert-like stuff, but I quickly came across a container of homemade tapioca-like pudding with sesame seeds and banana stuff that was vegan and I really had to have it. It was delicious! Second, I BOUGHT A SACK FULL OF LYCHEES FOR $4.99 (yes, they are really difficult to find, and yes, that is a great price for a sack full of lychees)! Third, there's a whole two freezer doors dedicated to soy and wheat gluten vegetarian and vegan friendly meat substitutes and some are in the shapes of the animal that they are imitating. You should really go take a peek in the store for yourself, but just in case, there may or may not be a "half a chicken breast" shaped like half of a chicken and a $12 reddish glob of soy gluten that's been pressed into a lobster shape. I just couldn't bare the thought of buying either of these, though. They were too pretty to eat! Fourth, a $1.99 tin of jasmine tea. Fifth, really affordable things that I didn't know that I needed like pot stickers and shredded coconut for smoothies and more tofu. Thank you, Hung Vuong, for reminding me/informing me that I need these things in my life. It's also really cool to shop at place that exports their food from countries that requires GMO labeling.

Yelp
I honestly would rather buy seafood here 100x better than a neighboring Acme. Fresh seafood, they're even willing to clean and skin your fish if you desire so. The produce are always fresh, and the register lines move quickly.

Yelp
I love this place! I went with Ed C & another friend & we just walked up & down the aisles & looked at everything. Asian groceries are like a Vegan Mecca, so much tofu, so much seitan, prepared in so many ways...canned! dehydrated! chicken style! beef style! An aisle just of things that have been pickled! SO many noodles! And jackfruit, which I have been wanting to buy since becoming vegan (great texture for vegan pulled pork or vegan brisket). The prices seriously cannot be beat. Super affordable! I'm a fan, I'll be here often.
