There’s cheesesteaks and then there’s Hungry bear cheesesteaks! Wow.. this was the perfect spot to get one of the best subs in Miami. In case you’re wondering, I had the very popular and highly recommended “Steak Bomb”!! They have an awesome menu with freshly made subs as soon as you order. And they’re not cheap on the meat either! Amazing experience, delicious sub and awesome service! Highly recommended. I will be back for more!

I got a chicken honey mustard sub. Asked for Light mayo and this is what I got. A sloppy unseasoned sub that just tasted like honey, mustard, and mayo. I bought three subs for $65 . Never again.

Hungry bear is a Miami staple!! Subs are still as good as they were 15 years ago! Definitely recommend.

I askes for a buffalo chicken salad with romaine lettuce some pickles ,olives,cheese and wantes to a little mild . Not what i got something with nuts and no pickles and olives or cheese. Im very allegic to nuts . Wnclose is some pictures of the food

My friend and I went here for lunch and the food was excellent. The ingredients were fresh, the taste was delicious, and the portion hearty. I got the buffalo sub and he got the bomb burger. We were both beyond satisfied when we finished. The blue cheese did not taste like it had any preservatives. I highly recommend this sub place. One of the best in Miami.

Love this place. I stop in for lunch all time and my father has been coming for many years. Highly recommend. Subs come fully loaded and packed. Can't go wrong with any option just depends your liking. Last time in we purchased steak and cheese and Buffalo chicken subs.

We ordered a chicken steak and a Philly steak. It took about 10 minutes which is pretty reasonable. The sub was meaty, juicy and hot and huge in portion size. Each could easily feed two to three portions. Service was friendly and speedy. There's really not anywhere to sit and enjoy the meal. Some seating outside is rudimentary and not really adequate for even seeing a family of four.

Hadn't been in over 10 years. Walked in, was greeted by staff. Had the same feel as I left it. Food was still the same, if not better Love it. Great place and fair price.

Hungry Bear was different than any other sub I have had and I would visit again while in the area. I got a hot ham and turkey sub. The meat was chopped and placed in the sub roll on top of the toppings. The chopped meat was delicious. I shared a large with my husband but there was not a big difference in the large and half size. The half sub was a smaller sub roll, not a large roll cut in half. There was seating inside that was comfortable and fountain drinks are available. My daughter ordered something called the monster that was not on the menu. It tasted like pizza on a sub roll. It was very good. I included a picture. The menu had several subs that sounded delicious. The employees were very friendly and patient as I kept changing my order.

I've always loved this place. It's just so unfortunate that it's had to raise its prices to stay afloat. I understand the economy changes but it has almost doubled its prices in the last 4 years. A Steak & Cheese Sandwich back in 2020 was 9.95. Now in 2024, 1 Sandwich is about 16.95...plus a drink it's about $20. Let that sink in. $20 for a sub and a drink. I'm sorry but that it is an outrageous price to pay for a nostalgic sandwich. I'm sorry, I can get a Pub Sub for half the price and it's just as good. I remember this place being a quick and cheap go-to sandwich for lunch. Either its rent has caused this or cost of supplies. No matter what, Its an outrageous amount for (1) sandwich. Sorry.

Our go to sub shop for so many years. Food is fresh, tasty and quick. Crazy how much the prices have gone up if you scroll thru the pics of the menus, but that's just the way or the world as of late.

Absolutely love this spot. The subs they have are delicious. The steak sub is my favorite. I do wish it had an indoor seating area and It is a bit pricey for a sub but it is definitely worth it. Highly recommend this spot.

Getting a sub from hungry bear is like having a day where you need some comfort. It's a small establishment hidden in Kendall close to the university. SERVICE has always been quick and considering it's a small place and very popular. The subs are always delicious and certainly big enough to share.

My sister took me here so I can try their subs. When you enter, the place is small and tight. Go up to the counter and order your subs then step to the right to pay. Then wait to be called. We ordered the Philly cheese steak. Upon opening the wrap paper the sauce was all over. It was a mess. The meat was delicious but kind of dry in my opinion. I wouldn't mind to try their subs again.

Overall a classic Miami institution. The subs are exactly what you expect. Packed with meat and always has a good balance of meat to vegetables. Only issue is that there is a lack of space to eat due to the Miami heat and the only tables being outside.

Disappointed, last few trips have lacked. Most recently, I ordered a Philly Cheesesteak, and there was no flavor and it was extremely dry. Also, had their buffalo chicken. The chicken lacked flavor, but thankfully the buffalo stood out. I see a few recent reviews complaining about the spices not hitting like they used to - hopefully, just a seasonal thing because Hungry Bear is the sub shop to go to..

Amazing sub-shop!! The Honey mustard chicken on white bread is by far my favorite sub! I have tried it as it comes (just without onions and without mushrooms// and added pickles, lettuce, and chopped Bacon), wow!!! Delicious! I have also tried it with Eggs (they make it omelet style) and it is awesome tasting as well. There fountain drinks dispense those tiny ice pebbles. So awesome. Overall Hungry Bear is a great sub-shop, with a lot of sub options to choose from! Can't wait to go back!

A Kendall institution: I remember my parents bringing us here in the early 90s, and 30 years later I am bringing my own kid these days. Still the best subs in the area, although their prices seem to have crept up over the years a little more than most. But we'll still keep coming back for cordon bleu and cheesesteaks!

I was starving and decided to cave and get myself one of my all time favorite comfort foods -- the Hungry Bear Steak Bomb. This hot sub is LOADED with shredded meat (cooked right in front of you on the flat top) tons of peppers and onions and melty cheese all served in a delicious sub roll. If $15 sounds pricy for a sandwich -- I assure you this one is worth the price tag and the inevitable wait time . The shop itself is really too tight for the amount of clientele it brings in and I will say the staff really do their best to move the lines along. Over the years I have rarely ever strayed from my usual order but the menu has plenty of options too choose from.

This place is an archive here in Kendall! Been around since I attended college across the street! The subs are amazing! Always has been! The place has not changed at all. Still the same spot with the benches outside to sit and eat. Service has always been stellar. Fast and efficient! This place will be around for another 50 years! Great subs, great location and great owners! Kudos to hungry bear!

The hours of operation on Yelp needs to be updated for Hungry Bear. The hours was updated three months ago. My husband went to get subs on Wednesday and the sign on the door read, "closed".

A good hole in the wall sub shop for locals. If you're a vegetarian I highly recommend asking them to stir fry onions and peppers with teriyaki and cheese. It's 10/10 The only reason I won't give them 5 stars is because no one answers the phone when you call the sub shop. I called 6 times and never spoke to a person.

Took my niece here for her first cheesesteak. What a mistake. We asked for extra extra cheese and got none. Just dry ass meat and a whole lot of pepper. Spoiled the whole experience. I announced out loud make sure there is extra extra cheese. She took a few bites and we trashed it. steak & CHEESE; this sandwich is flavorless.

Ever since Joshua went blind, he has fostered a great community of other kind blind folk to offer support, and of course, lifelong friendships. Take Spencer for example- a simple, fun-loving kind of guy who loves a good sandwich. Joshua, Spencer, and myself went to Hungry bear (with me driving there, of course). The service was quick and polite. The ambiance was old school! Spencer scarfed down his sub, and I couldn't even get a photo. We will come back, perhaps in a few years, to enjoy these amazing sandwiches again.

Delish. I love the cheeseburger subs and all the toppings they offer. I just wish they made fries.

Ordered a steak bomb. After a thorough search I found 1 mushroom. I've been eating here for about 30 years.Overall it's pretty good. The steak is so finely shredded you will need a tooth flosser. The good news! My dog really enjoyed most of the sub.

I ordered the Philly Cheese with grilled onions and added banana peppers as well as their home made hot pepper sauce. Their meat was lacking seasoning and there was barely any provolone cheese. Though, the toppings more than made up for it. Their home made hot pepper sauce was incredible and really elevated what otherwise would have been an ok sandwich. This sandwich was every bit of 12 inches and cost around $14. Their toppings system works like Five Guys, in that you can get as many as you want and they don't charge you. Which is great. Meat needed a little more salt and pepper and would have been an easy 5 stars. Would recommend.

Was very disappointed. Ordered a onion, cheese, and steak sub that was rather pricey. The meat was very bland, and it was practically the only thing in the sub. There were barely any onions or cheese. I had to ask for them to put more cheese on my sub, even then it wasn't a better sub after. Miami subs makes a much better cheesesteak in comparison.

If you know. You know. That's how I describe hungry bear. It's a Miami staple. I don't know how long they have been there but I've been coming here for a bit minute for some delicious subs. Every sub here is good. My favorite are all the hot subs. This past time I got the steak bomb. Yum. I love everything on my sandwich. The sun is big enough for you to eat for like two days. However it's so good that I normally devour one half in one sitting. But literally you can split it into four pieces. I love coming here when I want a sub and don't want to stop at Publix. Worth every bite and penny!!!!

Came here to order a sandwich for dinner. Selected the Cheesesteak sandwich with onions, mushrooms and Cheddar Cheese. Hands down the best cheesesteak I've had in awhile. The sandwich was very meaty. Very generous amount of steak in it that made it absolutely delicious along with the other ingredients

Yes they have the best subs but have no consideration for their paying customers. They close whenever they want and don't update their hours on any media. Today they are closed for the day but no mention of that here.

I been coming here for over, 35 years it's a little hole in the wall but , the subs have always been great , I just had a steak bomb nothing has really change other than the price , and the young college students from , Miami Dade college nearby . As always it was meaty full of flavor same amount of beef not to greasy , good amount of toppings , i only gave it a 4 cause it not much of a place for sitting , but I highly recommend the subs . Thanks guys for still making great subs, I'll keep coming back ..

Hungry Bear never disappoints. Small little shop right in front of MDC - Kendall. This place is always busy, but the service is quick. Friendly staff, always ready to take your order. I've been going there for about 15 years and have never had a bad sub from there. Many selections to chose from. Subs are always filled with ingredients, they don't short change you on that. My only reason for not giving it 5 stars is because of the prices. They have increased a lot. An idea....at least give a certain % discount for college students w/ I.D. Pro-Tip: Philly cheesesteak sub and honey mustard chicken sub are winners.

I haven't being here in a while. You order inside and then wait outside cause of Covid but unfortunately if you order a single sandwich the wait is longer. They forgot about my order after 20mins realized that there was new people outside. When I go inside clueless about the order.

I've been to Hungry Bear twice in the past few weeks because my husband has been in the mood for a sub for lunch. I must start my saying that their white bread used on the sub is absolutely delicious. Both times we visited we ordered the Philly cheesesteak. The meat on my sub on both occasions was not tasty but rather bland. The staff is super nice and the place is very clean. I don't think that I will be returning. Pro tip: They have picnic tables right outside where you can eat your lunch.

A friend told about this hole in the wall sub shop that I should try. So I did and I fell in love with the honey mustard chicken sandwich with wheat bread. It's so delicious the honey mustard isn't overpowering it's loaded with chicken and made fresh to order. I always tell myself that I'm going to try a different sub but I just love it so much that I end up with with the same one! It's a lot food but it's worth it . The only bad thing is the parking is limited so I'd recommend getting there a little before lunch time before it gets super busy

Came here onto lunch break for the first time. I ordered the chicken buffalo sandwich. For $12 I expected a lot of meat and they didn't disappoint, it was packed.Overall the buffalo flavor was there and i tasted a bit of the blue cheese I told them to add, I just wish it had more on top.

Don't eat here a customer brought his dog into the shop! The dog kept shaking right at the ordering counter dog hair got everywhere all over the food! Stay away

I heard about this place from my mom who ate here 20 years ago, it's still a good place to this day. Very good sub. five (5) star.

If you're ever hungry for a really big sub for a good price, this place has been here forever and has always been consistent in providing you a feel good sub. They are huge so if you're hungry one is still enough. I have a steak bomb, it was a heavy meal but it tasted awesome , just wish it had more lettuce but that could requested as well.

Apparently it's possible to have a sign printed and posted on your storefront with temporary store hours, but it isn't possible to update that info anywhere online. Drove over 30 minutes just to find out they aren't open when their "website" (Facebook page), Apple Maps, Google maps, and Yelp all say they're open. This is an out of the way, odd little strip, I highly doubt most of their customers are just wandering by. This is the kind of place people seek out. They shouldn't have to waste their time to find out it's routinely closed when it shouldn't be.

Delicious steak sandwich . will be back to try other sandwiches . Customer service was great for first timers.

Best honey mustard chicken sub ever!!! Wish I had a place up north like them . One of the places I look forward to when I visit Miami . The service is quick and the workers are super nice . I wish I had a picture of my sub but it was gone before I remembered to take a picture haha .

So good and quick. I always get the chicken Caesar sub and it's always soooo packed and perfect the staff is also super efficient and quick. Only thing is it is a bit on the pricier end but definitely makes up for it with that they serve you!!

Made a stop here while I was visiting on vacation and I was very impressed. Big fan of Buffalo chicken and it was very tasty! A big thank you for Christina for taking the time to help me pick the right sub and wrapping the other half to take back home to San Diego for my bf to try :) we both LOVED IT- great quality chicken and flavor. Also had a bite of my cousins curry sub- super delicious !

Been coming here for years. Best honey mustard chicken in Miami. Idk about the other subs because it's all I ever get but I'm sure they're all fantastic. Plenty of meat and fresh ingredients. Cooked to order and super quick team and friendly staff. Love hungry bear

Been going here for over 30 years, just had my 3rd horrible sub in a row. Honey mustard chicken. dry tasteless garbage, I don't know what happened to you guys, but never again!

There are very few things left in this part of Kendall that remind me of home, but Hungry Bear delivers every time. It was great to see the owner still running the grill (likely has to do with Help Wanted sign out front too) and the place was moving just as fast as usual. My only disappointment is that I can't buy a shirt to take with me back to Atlanta!
