Takeout‑only, cash‑only, and legendary for overloaded toppings on whisper‑thin crust. OnMilwaukee’s pizza deep‑dive praises its spicy‑leaning sauce and generous sausage. It’s a north‑side ritual: call ahead, bring cash, and claim one of the city’s most old‑school tavern pies.

Pizza is good, but yall know yall could have cut this pizza better for as long as it took! I called ahead 30 minutes and when I got there the pizza was already done so yall had time to cut the pizza better. I like the amount of toppings yall put on the pizza, makes it worth it. Also, the pizza was a bit burnt on the bottom and was curled at the ends. Other than that, it’s good pizza!

Google
Phoned in an order today for two large pizzas. Was told that it would be a 20 minute wait no worries as I was driving there anyway to pick up. Upon arrival I was greeted with a smile and very professional service. I was handed my pizza and off I went . When I arrived at home I observed both pizzas being extra dark and crispy with almost a burnt taste on outer crust. It is not what I am used to from Hups at all. Because of previous interactions I will most definitely try them again however this time I lm disappointed in food quality.

Google
Pizza always hot. The guy at register always nice and address customers by name. Building small and line long but who cares when food is good. Just order ahead and your good

Google
Pizza is always our go-to! And Freshly made....

Google
The pizza here is still good like it was always but the problem is the location! It really is a coin toss if you're going to get hit by a stray bullet as the area becomes more crime-ridden. So if you're from out of the area keep that in mind if you're coming for pizza. A cop was shot in an alley just a few blocks away not too long ago.

Google
Great pizza and friendly people! Can't go wrong getting pizza here. Many people talk about Zaffiro's being Milwaukee's best pizza, but I think Hup's has them beat.

Google
As a local real estate broker, it’s very important you fuel your contractors, clients and loved-ones with only the BEST pizza in town! This place is TOTALLY the “iykyk” off-the-beaten-path pizza shop of Milwaukee and had been for 50 years!!!. I always get “the works” and yes… the price is WORTH IT. the drive is worth it, and in a world of Venmo/credit, the “cash only” is worth it. This place is my game day go-to. No one will ever change my opinion of my favorite pizza in the WORLD. Some people on here complain about the cuts of the pizza— personally I don’t CARE! That’s why it’s TAKEOUT ONLY, you can cut it later with a pizza cutter, a knife, some scissors, a machete, whatever you have at your house ! It doesn’t change my love for Hup’s .

Google
From someone who is from Chicago, lol it's definitely pretty good. By far the best i have had since being up here 3+ years, lol!!!
google avatar

Yelp
In my opinion the best pizza in Milwaukee. The pizza is so good they don't even have to advertise lol. When you eat it you can't help but tell somebody about it.
google avatar

Toria M.

Yelp
Definitely not what it used to be Small size for the price. Half-overcooked (almost burnt) and not done enough on the other. Taste also isn't the same. A staple growing up and now won't be going back.

Yelp
Pizza always good! Service good. Nice friendly workers. Fast service. Called placed my order. Given a tile that it would be ready. When I arrived, lobby area empty. Taken care of right away!
google avatar

Yelp
It is the best pizza in Wisconsin, only downfall is the area is ghetto. It's definitely worth it though.
google avatar

Yelp
I remember when this place had amazing pizza family couldn't wait until Friday to order pizza and a move. This last experience was so disappointing For one the pizza crust taste like cardboard dry And u either get a undercooked pizza or a over dry burnt pizza the quality of the pizza has really deteriorated threw this last month if u like tastey dried out pizza this is the place
google avatar

Yelp
People are stupid but don't worry, the internet has your back. Keep making great pizza and Milwaukee will support you.

Yelp
I have been coming here for over 30 years and they have never disappointed me. I love that they are fresh and bake the pizza to perfection so that the crust isn't doughy or burnt. I wish that they opened a little earlier so I can have it at lunchtime, but I will take them being open in the evening because it's always been like this and I would assume that this is what continues to make their service great as well as their food. I will continue to patron small business. That is a historical part of the city.

Yelp
Not the Hup's pizza I use to love. Ordered 1 pepperoni, 1 sausage, and 1 cheese pizza. All three were equally discussing. The pizza smelled weird, did not look like Hup's pizza use to look. My son and I both felt sick a few hours after eating, my daughter refused to even taste her cheese pizza. What a waist of $48

Yelp
Whether it's raining, shining, or snowing, ohh it's a happy day when we go to Hup's! Awaiting those with apatite to fulfill is a classic pizza and a generous helping of cheesy garlic goodness! The best memories are found when the whole family eats together, and what a pleasure it is to take a dip in the marinara for a soft crispy twang of garlic and cheese bread.. Then, add a handful of traditional toppings for an uplifting variety of zest, oregano, and gooey cheese! The community around 5400 W Hampton Avenue, Milwaukee comes together around our mutual love for Hups' classic thin crust pizza pies with California-style saucing.. waiting patiently in our vehicles, in the standing-room-small, but cozy, pick-up window, and outside the door of the waiting room.. some of us with a splendid spring in our step, anticipating the abounding merriment of every juicy square-cut slice! I strongly recommend Hup's for every birthday and holiday gathering, and I value Kenny's proficient and attentive service over the phone as I placed my order. We love to bring a warm smile and an open-hearted caring vibe to this authentically original neighborhood pizza kitchen! Hups' quality ingredients, consistently quick service, friendliness, and generosity really stand out to me. The whole family, and even a couple friends, will enjoy time spent together, relaxing with the simple, genuine, absolutely excellent pizza and oven-baked loaves from Hup's!

Yelp
Omg been going there for like 30 years !!!! Delicious outstanding pizza great service !!

Yelp
Classic neighborhood staple. Can go wrong with this pizza. Wish they would open other locations.

Larry S.

Yelp
Love their pizza..best in town. The service is great with friendly staff. Support the central city by putting this on your schedule.

Yelp
Hups makes pizza exactly how I want it without me having to ask for "extra" of something! We just ordered a Supreme Pizza and it comes perfect. Hups is generous on ALL their toppings! There are so many toppings, it's falling off the pizza as you fold your slice and slide it into your mouth. I have eaten pizza from Hups twice now and I'll be returning! The only cons are that they do NOT take cards; cash only! And no delivery. I haven't bothered seeing if it's an option on something like Grub Hub though. I implore you to give Hups a try!!

Yelp
I've heard great things about this pizza shop for a while now. From the outside, you'll wonder how they don't run out of food every night - then you walk inside to see a 2-person waiting area, the rest of the building is the kitchen. When I got there, there were already 2 people waiting inside and another outside. By the time I left, 4 more people had arrived - always a good sign that you're about to have some good food. I got myself a mushroom pizza (vegetarian things... haha) and some garlic bread. I told myself I wouldn't finish it in one sitting and save some for the next day, well, I couldn't do it - I had to finish it all. Order ahead to make your wait go a little quicker. Also, it's important to note that they are cash-only. Plan ahead and you'll have a great experience too.

Yelp
Always been 5 stars . I live in Colorado and visits family 3 or 4 times a year. Stop here every visit. Why oh Why is the crust thicker. Why would Hups make that change. Ingredients are the same. Sauce is the same. Tastes great still , but I Loved the Thinner crust. Very disappointed.
google avatar

Belinda J.

Yelp
Ok pizza for me the cheese was not my favorite customer service was awesome and all the customers who were waiting for pizza were true longtime customers it is a Milwaukee pizza staple the sausage on the pizza was awesome
google avatar

Jan B.

Yelp
We have been getting pizzas from Hups for many 30+ years. Great service, delish pizza, just call, order pick up and go! You won't be dissatisfied !
google avatar

Greg B.

Yelp
Hups may not be located in the greatest of areas, their menu may not be very large, and the building itself may look small and a little sketchy, but damn, they have some of the best pizza around. Their pizza is perfectly crispy on the bottom, generous with the toppings, and has an amazing tasting sauce. I'd gladly go out of my way any time to pick it up. if you haven't tried Hups, do yourself a favor and make it a priority.
google avatar

Ta-tanisha P.

Yelp
This is the best pizza I have had in the city. Ned's you have a real competition on your hands. The sausage is so delicious. Give it a try you will not be disappointed.
google avatar

Velita T.

Yelp
Best pizza in Milwaukee .Pizza is full of cheese sauce and enough toppings. I eat pizza from hup's at least once a week.
google avatar

Rosemary M.

Yelp
Still the same pizza!!!! And this place been around I know for over 30yrs they were VERY busy and I should say the small area where you pick up your order could only occupy 3 people with social distancing so some people were forced to wait outside although the wait wasn't long they were pretty good with expediting the orders in a timely fashion the only downside they only take cash!!! This is the second place I've been that I would consider to be a Staple of Milwaukee in which the only form of payment accepted is cash then none of the gas stations nearby give cash back so I had to run around in the snow storm........Never mind; I digress Please if you decide to visit you MUST have cash on you but the pizza is worth the visit!!!!!

Jackie A.

Yelp
their site states that they offer delivery but that is a bold face LIE!!!! they need to update that ASAP
google avatar

Leigh A.

Yelp
Still the best pizza in the area. We called right at 4pm. Our pizza was ready by 4:20pm. This pizza is so good, I don't have to put any seasoning or sauce on it. It is perfect as is, every time. If you haven't tried Hup's, you are really missing out. People come from hours away just to pick this pizza up. So good we got two pizzas in fact. You need to try it. Limited evening hours. Cash only.
google avatar

Yelp
We were feeling lazy and hadn't cooked Sunday dinner, watching football and thought "pizza" , so narrowed options down to HUPS, previous visits were good...however this visit the pizza lacked flavor,, the cheese was sub par, it lacked a good stretch and wAs too chewy. The crust had a decent thin crust. The canned mushrooms were off putting. I won't ever eat another pizza from Hups because life is too short to pay for bad pizza!
google avatar

Lonnie K.

Yelp
The customer service sucks! F*ck this place! Due to Covid-19, only two ppl allowed inside at a time to pick up orders. There were two dudes inside waiting for their order, which wasn't ready. They should have been told to wait outside for others to pick up orders. The line did not move for nearly 10 mins. The rest of us waited outside to pick up our orders that were already done. My pizza was cold and told them to keep it. Hopefully they didn't serve it to someone else. F*ck this place! Won't spend another dollar in this place. Other than cold pizza, it's not that bad. Need to be in line when you call.

Gerhard F.

Yelp
Awesome!! We ordered the large with extra sausage. It was one of the best pizzas we have eaten in a long time. Delicious

Yelp
I asked around for suggestions for the best pizza in Milwaukee. An overwhelming number of responses said Hup's. I do not know what I was expecting when I pulled up, but it wasnt Hup's. It's a tiny shack on a corner lot with almost no parking. It reminds me of some small BBQ joints I remember living in the south. There is a waiting "room" where you order, it's pretty much just a doorway. The menu is bare bones-- two sizes of pizza, optional toppings, garlic bread, cheese bread. They only accept cash. I ordered a large pepperoni pizza with double sausage and cheese bread. I was told "come back in 30 minutes". I returned 25 minutes later, in case the pizza was ready early. The waiting, um, closet was packed with a half dozen people waiting for their pizza. Young, old, black, white. When I explained (standing that close everyone becomes your new best friend) that it was my first time, I was universally told that I would love it and would be back ASAP. One older gentleman had driven from an hour away just to get pizza. He said he used to work there decades ago. My pizza may have been done early, I'll never know, as it took 10 minutes or so to work through the line in the waiting room. First thing I tried was the cheese bread. It was exactly what you'd home cheese bread to be-- tons of butter, garlic, and melted cheese on fresh bread, still soft but crispy around the edges. My only issue is that it did not include marinara or any sort of dipping sauce. Next time I will ask. The pizza. Easiest way to lose me on a pizza is to use subpar sausage. The sausage they use is GREAT. The other toppings (pepperoni, cheese, sauce, etc) also taste quality. The cheese looked a little burnt but in fact was perfect. The crust is a little too crispy for my taste, but not overdone. My only real complaint about the pizza-- THEY DIDNT CUT IT. What?! I dont live in Milwaukee so I wasnt in a position to go home, cut, serve and eat it. I ended up ripping it into pieces. I would have given them 5 stars if they had cut my pizza. It's really good pizza, and I'm not mad at a no frills operation.

Yelp
Best pizza ever. My parents have been eating there since the 80's and I continue the tradition with my kids. Fair price for amazing pizza. Cash only

Ciera R.

Yelp
Really tasty, fast service and kind employees. I enjoyed their plain pizza and the loaded 4 toppings pizza
google avatar

Theresa B.

Yelp
OMG! People are always saying try this place, try that place, it's the best. Hup's is definitely one of the best pizzas I have ever had! Well worth the drive across town. Easy order, ready right at the time they said and delicious. Even my kids asked "where is this pizza from, it's so good".
google avatar

Bill T.

Yelp
Delicious pizza, will definitely order again Not a cracker crisp crust, more doughy and soft which is just fine by me. They dice their onions which is a huge plus!
google avatar

Lacey A.

Yelp
Love this pizza! I've only gotten pizza from here once, but it was delicious and I plan on getting it again since I live not too far from here (why did it take me so long to try it?!). Like everyone else has said, don't expect anything fancy. The room you pick up your pizza in is basically a closet. There is one menu and it's taped on the window counter. They ask what name your order is under (you DID call ahead your order, right?) and you slide the person your money and they slide you your pizza under the thick plexi window. The pizza is no-frills, no fancy-pants anything; just well made, tasty pie. No fancy toppings to choose from, so I stick with pepperoni and sausage. The sausage was outstanding and clearly did not come from a vendor in little pre-formed balls--you know what I'm talking about. It was full of fennel and delicious. The pepperoni kind of got lost, honestly, even though there was a ton of it. The sausage was really just the standout. There was plenty of sauce and cheese too. Really just a ton of toppings. The edges were nice and crispy but the middle, while not undercooked, was more limp. It'd have to be a pretty crisp crust in order to stand up to all those toppings though, so eh. It didn't really bother me because I was shoving it in my face anyway. Ordered a large and the pizza crust was stretched larger than the cardboard circle it was on. At $17 (no tax added on) for a 14+ incher with tons of toppings, I'd say it was a good value. I appreciated that they double bagged the pizza too, so the grease didn't quite make it through the second bag. The service I experienced was no-nonsense and not outright pleasant, but definitely not rude in any way so that's all I care about. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Hups is my north side go to pizza spot when I don't wanna drive to Ned's. Great pizza & always under $20 bucks.

Savanna W.

Yelp
Holy **** this place is good. I have no criticism. Went for the first time tonight. Calling and ordering pickup was so easy and fast and it was ready by the time we got there. I think for me, it was the sauce. The sauce is so flavorful and rich, not overly tomato-y or too sweet or anything. People are right about that sausage, too.

Ray R.

Yelp
Lived on 57th St as a kid, remember this place when it opened, or changed to a pizza place from Dairy Queen or something, about 1965, so it's been a great pizza place over 55 years. Haven't been there lately but always remembered the great pizza.
google avatar

Shirl T.

Yelp
I read the reviews and needed to try Took location into consideration Not the greatest but growing up in Chicago shacks like this were always the best. This was an outstanding pizza! Garlic bread not bad Driving home I wanted to peak in the bag at my Devine aroma but they double bagged my pizza. This to me meant I was about to eat some heavenly pizza! One word; YUMMO! Way better than any chain pizza; Try this local pizza shack; Awesome Pizza Would have given 5 stars if they took credit cards. But if you keep this in mind; Should not be a big deal. Will be a return customer!!
google avatar

Jack J.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite pizza in the city. I guess it should be considered Wisconsin or Milwaukee style being the thin crust, cut into squares thing. I guess that's a Midwest thing. I like how the outside pieces are crispy for ppl that like crispy and the middle is soft for the ppl that likes soft and everything super cheesy of course. I like how they don't skimp on the sauce or cheese and everything taste super fresh. I recommend eating it while as hot as possible to get the full cheese effect. Being born and raised in Milwaukee the area is like any other inner city area, that's not in the downtown area. Just mind ur own business and u will have no worries. FYI the sausage is better than the pepperoni so I would say get both toppings or if u gotta pick one get the sausage. Or do half and half and try both for yourself. The Garlic bread is good but the cheese bread is better. I noticed the first time I ordered they don't give u any marinara with the bread and I have never missed it to be honest so I never asked if it was available with the bread. (No other restaurant is allowed to give me bread with no sauce). Even shocked me. It's a lil shack that sales only pizza. with limited toppings, limited sides, zero desserts and limited business hours that I give 5 STARS! yeah 5

Cody M.

Yelp
Awesome thin crust pizza. Anticipate a wait to come back and pick up your pizza. Always hot always fresh and well seasoned

Pam M.

Yelp
I love Hup's pizza. I wish they would expand. The best pizza I have ever had. They have been around a long time. When my brother came home from Vietnam he wanted pizza. Hups delivered on Christmas Day. My niece live in the area and says they are still top notch
google avatar

michael W.

Yelp
That's it. Five fucking stars. So good so good so good so good so good so good so good. Let's see how many other things I need to say to make this review long enough to post. Super super super super super super super super super super super good!! Cash only bring cash!
google avatar

Annie S.

Yelp
My parents love the pizza here (when we lived in Union Grove, they'd drive an hour just to come here, get pizza, and eat it in the car). It is good for a very thin crust, I just prefer a thicker crust which is why I didn't give as many stars. No indoor seating, I do believe they have delivery, but also pickup. Not the greatest neighborhood, but a lot of people think it's worth it for the pizza.
google avatar

Jo S.

Yelp
To die for pizza! The crust is perfect (thin) and the toppings generous. The waiting area is 6 feet by 6 feet (no joke) so order ahead. If you wind up standing in " the closet" waiting area it is fun to talk to those standing around. They all have one thing in common, they love that pizza! A guy, who was from Slinger Wisconsin, about 25 miles away, stopped in for a par baked pizza. I did not realize they offered that. Cheese, sausage, black olives, and onions, the best!

Chantel D.

Yelp
Haven't been here in years, the pizza was great! Cheeses, hot and delicious. Service was fast and friendly.
google avatar

Tommy W.

Yelp
Been going here since I was a kid in the 70's living on 44th and Hampton. Great pizza. Friendly staff.
google avatar

Brian B.

Yelp
OMG, it is the best pizza in the world. Not kidding. I was raised in the area but haven't lived there in over 13 years. It is literally the only thing I miss about Milwaukee. Why the owner never opened another pizzeria in a nicer area I will never know. It is worth it's weight in gold. The flavor is unbelievable! The neighborhood is really run down but it's actually worth getting a concealed weapons permit just so you can go pick up your pizza. Remember, safety first. It is literally to die for.
google avatar

Cornelius S.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem!Similar to neds but hups sauce is better.Great pizza keep up the good work guys,4 out of 5 stars should of took a picture but we were to busy eating.
google avatar

Mandy M.

Yelp
Let's start with the positives, the crust and sauce were great! Thin crust, nice and crispy. The sauce had great seasonings. The Italian sausage was excellent. The negatives- the garlic bread. Disappointing. Just tasted like buttered French bread. No garlic to speak of. 100% would not order that again. Second thing was that there weren't a ton of onions on the pizza. For $1.50/topping I expected a little more. Overall, a solid showing, although I'm not sure I'd drive out of my way again for this pie.
