One of the best fried Red Snapper I had in LA for a reasonable price! I had the Dinner Special with 4 pieces of thick Red Snappers, 2 sides & hushpuppies for under $18+ in DTLA?? That is a steal! The Potato salad & Collard green were delicious. Wouldn't change a thing. Chef/Owner Jeff homemade tar tar sauce truly sealed the deal.

*Trust me on this try the cheesecake* DTLA has needed a spot like this, I was about to goto birdies next door when I noticed this spot! The owner was still there and he’s a great guy. He gave me a free slice of cheesecake and now I’m hooked on it. I’m from the south and places like this are the norm. I was excited to see Hushpuppies show up. The fish and shrimp are so flavorful! I got the regular fries and even those were perfect. The salmon bites were perfectly cooked and tender. The only thing they are missing would be grits! 😋 You gotta give this place a try!

Walked by this place a couple of times while exploring lunch options. Finally tried it, and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The food and service are exceptional. I had the fish, shrimp and collard greens. The fish was addictive and I might have to make this a weekly stop. I highly recommend it. I almost went right back to buy just hushpuppies so I could take home and eat with some honey butter or hot honey. Great recipe and love seeing the veggie pieces inside.

Excellent for dtla! I really enjoyed my food. I got collard greens, the hush puppies, french fries, and fried catfish and it was good!

A southern style fish fry. This place is amazing. I ordered the red snapper lunch special. This comes with 3 pieces of fish, one side and hushpuppies. I chose the collard greens for my side. The fish was fresh and fried to perfection. The batter was crispy and well seasoned. The collard greens were smoked and had bits of fried pork throughout. The hushpuppies were dense with hint of heat from the peppers inside. Comes with tartar sauce, hot sauce, lemon and a ketchup pack. If I could change one thing, it would be to ask for a little bit more juice with greens. Then again, they were perfectly moist and it didn't spill on my walk back to the office. All of the pics I've see do this place justice. This is now a weekly must for me.

came across this spot while aimlessly walking downtown and its definitely on my list now. the shrimp were big and juicy and fried to perfection in a delicious batter 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨. i will definitely be recommending this spot to anybody i know who lives in or passes through dtla!

DTLA has been in desperate need of this place. Fish is amazing, their batter is unreal, collard greens are delicious (and I normally don’t like collard greens) and the price is right. You can see they take serious pride in their food. Amazing lunch or dinner option for great-tasting affordable take out.

First time here, well to pick up for lunch while working at home. Had the 3 piece catfish combo, has my doubts, been let down so many times. The catfish was perfectly cooked and seasoned, delicious and the hushpuppies we're great with it. Definitely an addition to my regular places.

Hushpuppies in DTLA offers a variety of fish, seafood and sides. I typically order the catfish dinner. The catfish is seasoned and fried well. I prefer a cornmeal batter and this one seems like a blend of flour maybe. Not my personal favorite. I like a hard crispy cornmeal fry on my catfish. With that said, I do come here from time to time. The collard greens and potato salad are solid! I love the hushpuppies! Parking is difficult. Staff is friendly. The inside is small but has a few seats and tables. I recommend coming here for lunch and giving it a try!

Stopped by today and they didn't have anything in stock but catfish, fries, snapper, and mac and cheese. No drinks, no rush puppies. I still wanted to try it since I was already there, but a little disappointed they didn't have what I planned to get. The service, however, was good. The guy working was the chef and cashier and had only be there two weeks. He was very friendly and very helpful. Not sure I will be back, but if so I'll update this review.

Cute new spot that opened up in DTLA. Service is great, very quick and friendly. Ordered hush puppies - the jalapeño and cheddar ones- 6 pieces for $5 is not bad at all. I think it was just cornbread. They have a variety of other shrimps and oysters, seafood to choose from. I would try again.

Was walking home and decided to stop in here as i prefer supporting local businesses, and I'm glad i did! Jeff (the owner) happened to be there so i let him choose his favorite combo to pack for me. He got behind the grill himself alongside his cook and was very welcoming and hospitable. I ended up getting the Salmon bites + shrimp + hush puppies + fries + coleslaw. It was worth every penny and i will definitely be returning and bringing people with me. :)

Hushpuppies in downtown LA just opened two weeks ago. It was located fairly close to Fatty's work site so we checked it out during lunch. The menu selection was small but focused. They wanted to serve us good fried seafood and that was what they did. We got the lunch combo with catfish. It also came with 3 shrimps, 2 hushpuppies, and 1 side. We were recommended to get the collard greens. Food was made fresh and came out pretty quick. It was everything we were looking for. The batter was greatly seasoned to a point that we didn't think the homemade tartar sauce was necessary. The fish and shrimp were very well fried. The fish was tender and shrimp was not overcooked. The collard greens was not too acidic and paired with the seafood well. Really it was just a great lunch. Overall experience was excellent. The owner was working the cash register and able to make amazing recommendations. Super friendly and cares about the feedbacks. We were very glad they opened up because there was nothing like this around our work area. We don't have to travel far for fantastic fried seafood anymore! We will definitely go back. For limited time, if you follow their IG, you get 10% off.

A new place opened up around the block so we had to give it a go. We stopped by when they looked open but weren't quiet and the guy told us to stop by the next day. Well they weren't open that day. Or the next. So finally we caught them on 1/6, which happened to be their second day open. There's a single table with a single chair on the sidewalk, and two stools on the patio. We ordered the lunch combo which was 3 pc fish and 3 pc jumbo shrimp and some fries. Had the snapper, would try catfish next time though. Batter was tasty, definitely enjoyed the shrimp more. Total was like $19. Love to check out new spots around the block!

I got the lunch special fish and jumbo shrimp combo. Fries are fried perfectly fish and shrimp are perfectly crunchy and seasoned, not too salty. The owner was very friendly, very nice.I would definitely go back for lunch.

Jeff IS THE THE MAN!!! HE'S FRIENDLY, WARM, CONFIDENT IN HIS FOOD (AS HE SHOULD BE) ITS FANTASTIC!!! He gave us a free sample of the fried sole and a fried shrimp since we had never been in before. We came in for a side of collard greens and are walking out with a full combo plate and I couldn't be happier to change my dinner plans tonight to support this really great hole in the wall. If you like soul food, fried southern food, or really great made to order comfort food you gotta come in here. have a real genuine convo with the owner and feel like you5r a regular by the time you walk out. 5/5 top notch.

Had to try the Shrimp and Red Snapper with Green and potato salad. Everything was good definitely will come back.

Catfish was juicy and delicious!!! The collard greens were perfect as well as the macaroni salad. Everything including the food customer service and the overall experience was definitely to my liking and I will definitely be back.

I do my best to be transparent in my reviews. They had an initial issue with my online ordering being located in the system which meant I had to wait an extra 15 min for it to be cooked. I wasn't in a rush to be anywhere on this day, so I charged it to the game because I was really craving some fried fish. The cook and the manager were cooI and let me know about the issue so I waited. I ordered the Catfish plate which came with two sides and jalapeño hushpuppies. When I tell you the fish was fried to perfection, it was definitely that. Not only that but the seasoning was on point also. The garlic parmesan fries were a hit as well. Come through and check out Hushpuppies if you're in the downtown LA area, you won't be sorry!

Very good catfish and very close to downtown. Was able to get my food and a quick time from ordering.

Warm atmosphere, amazing ownership and management. I live in downtown 5 blocks away and wanted some good fish. Did not want the other fish places around, so went on yelp and they came right up with amazing reviews and pictures of their food. I am so glad that they are now here downtown and they will be getting alot of orders from me!! Dooo nooott pass this place up . You will love the food and will definitely go back for more

I've walked past this place many times but was hesitant to stop in because I've had so many different experiences with Catfish in Los Angeles that weren't the best. For context: I was born and raised in Louisiana so I know a good piece of fish when I eat one. Hushpuppies gave me the best plate of catfish that I've had the pleasure of eating since I moved to Los Angeles. Best part about it? It's actual Catfish. I've gone to so many restaurants that claim to use catfish but are actually using other white fish trying to pass it as Catfish. This was not the case here. If you're in the area and want a good piece of fish, stop here!

My new favorite spot in DTLA! I had their fried catfish with fries and hushpuppies, everything was so delicious, crunch and well seasoned.

I wish the hush puppies were more flavorful, or came with some nice dipping sauce besides tobasco. Also, the cheesecakes are way too sweet and overpriced. $8.50 for a small slice seems way too expensive.

Service was amazing! Owner is soo kind and helpful! Goes above and beyond. Food was absolutely delicious! Red Snapper and Shrimp were seasoned and fried to perfection! Parmesan Fries were very tasty. If you live or work in Downtown LA you must try. Definitely coming back. Worth every penny.

My friend & I decided to go to Hushpuppies on a whim this past Saturday and I'm so glad we did! We arrived just a couple minutes before closing and was greeted with such welcoming energy. We expected to be turned away due to arriving so late but that was the complete opposite of what happened. They took their time and placed great care into our order. The food was well worth the cost. I was surprised at how much I had left over for the next day. The food was amazing! I'd drive from Inglewood back to Downtown LA just for their hushpuppies. I can't wait to go back!

Felicia was so welcoming and nice. I ordered the 4 piece catfish dinner combo with jumbo shrimps, fries and macaroni salad. The seasoning was good and the portions were good as well. I usually go to Harold's and Belle for my catfish, but now I can walk 300ft to Hushpuppies DTLA!!!! Y'all go and try it out. It won't disappoint!!! And the location is great, with street parking. The building is super inviting with the mural on the wall!!

This place is delicious! The greens are great and so was the fish and shrimp combo. Garlic fries too.

I can't say enough about this place! The food is on another level! I had the salmon bites, hush puppies and greens and have not stopped thinking about them since. Best hush puppies and greens I've had in my life. The way they keep the salmon bites moist on the inside and so crispy on the outside is absolutely artful! Not only that, the owners were INCREDIBLY hospitable and eager to please. The pride they take in their restaurant and the love they poor into the food and experience is a rare combo in LA. I recommend this place highly!!

I kept passing by this place and wanted to try it. The name definitely caught my attention. The food was delicious and service was very good. The staff definitely gave good energy. Gotta try the hushpuppies! They were fire!

Found this place in DTLA. I was like finally a fish fry spot in my neighborhood! I had the catfish dinner plate. I ordered the 4pc fish + 5pc Jumbo Shrimp and a there were only 3 shrimp in the platter once i got home to open it. I didn't call or make a fuss but check your order before you leave. The flavors were there but heavy on the batter. It made it a lil bit soggy instead of crispy. It's a new establishment so it has room for growth. It's worth trying it out.

Ordered for four people and everyone stopped eating after the first bite because they were so fishy. It could be that day, but not looking to go back.

Had the catfish dinner plate yesterday along with the peach cobbler for my wife. It was fireeeee . I met the owner and his coworker and they were so nice you can tell they out care into their food. So service was amazing! Would recommend!

Great new spot downtown. Nowhere else in the area to get good fried fish. The fried shrimp and snapper were really good. The hush puppies were delicious. Customer service rocked. Only wish they had a few more vegetable side options because i think collard greens was the only option.

Wonderful owner & staff. Fish is excellent & sauces, sides are great too. Best for take-out as they don't have seating yet. Also do an amazing job catering which is how we discovered them.

Stopped into this spot randomly with my friend and was super surprised on how good it was! The fried shrimp & tilapia were absolutely delicious. Hush puppies are to die for! I will be back . The owner is a nice hardworking man who welcomed is in with open arms. Definitely a great atmosphere and very comforting food. The price good, not overpriced at all!

I had an opportunity to visit this establishment and enjoy the filet sole and jumbo shrimp combo dinner with macaroni salad and potato salad. The fish was cooked to perfection crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The macaroni salad was ! When I'm in the downtown area, I will be sure to come back and support.

Very tasty batter on the shrimp, and the potato salad was to die for !! Loved the store look and the painting on the wall !

Seafood is on point. Glad they have lunch specials. Ordered Red Snapper with Potato Salad and 2x Hush Puppies lunch special and it was enough food for 1 person. My only issue is on the sales tax rate they add to the purchase. The local tax rate is 9.5% but the establishment charges 10.5%. This needs to be looked into and corrected. Will come back
