Hwa Hae Dang

"This is the first Seoul branch of the acclaimed Taean County restaurant, located on the west coast of Korea. The name of the restaurant, which translates into “Flower crab house” specializes in soy sauce marinated blue crab, prized for its sweet flesh. Each spring, when local crabs are in season, they are caught and flash frozen to be used throughout the year. The crabs are prepared in Taean and sent to Seoul. The seafood side dishes are also good." - Michelin Inspector

This is a Michelin restaurant serving marinated raw crabs. We made a booking and a booking was definitely needed as we can see people who didn’t being turned away. Our table was ready for us and so nicely set up. We had one crab set each which was KRW47000 per pax. Firstly we were served some steamed egg. Next came the main dish which was the crab. We were given a bowl of rice each and we could add tea to the rice pot after scooping out the rice. The crabs were fresh. It was not strongly marinated and you can taste the rawness of the crabs. Not for the faint hearted. Mix it with rice and the given condiments and it makes for a delicious meal. Adding rice to the roe filled crab shell at the end and mixing it was the best way to eat and my favourite part of the meal.

Best soy marinated crab in Seoul! If you’ve ever hesitated to try because of that notorious fishy smell - this restaurant will completely change your mind. (Tried 10 over restaurants in Seoul) Crabs here at HHD are unbelievably fresh. Pure umaminess of sweet soy meat and that addictive fresh creamy roe - prefer to enjoy on its own or mix it with rice instead of wrapping it in seaweed One thing to note the steamed eggs were just okay, nothing wow. 😇

My wife absolutely loves Crabs, and this is her favorite way they are served. She agreed that it was the best marinated crab she had ever had. Come here specifically for that, because the menu only has 2 items! You can get in for lunch at opening with no reservation, but make one for dinner!

Got in on a Thursday right at opening without reservation. Service was friendly and efficient. The crab was very meaty compared to other places where we tried the soy marinated crab, the highlight though was the banchan - all super subtle yet flavourful. A bit pricy but you pay for quality.

One of the best soy crab places in Seoul. Solid choice for soy crab. I made reservations via telephone, they accepted reservations even tho I didn't have a Korean phone number. Did a prior visit without reservations, I arrived as they were opening and was able to get seated right away and was told I had about an hour to eat as customers with reservations would arrive, which was not a problem for me.

I am a soy crab lover. I visited Hwa Hae Dang because it was recommended by Michelin Guide and close to Conrad. I was told that I had to wait for one hour while entering. The manner of the attendant, a young man, was very polite and kind. The set menu was finely designed, with soy crab, steamed egg, rice, and several traditional Korean small dishes. He demonstrated how to manage rice. The soy crab was tasty, but medium in size. T ordered another soy crab to feast my stomach. To put rice into the shell and mix with crab yolks is amazingly tasty. Everything was fine. If the size of soy crab could be bigger would be great. If you are a soy crab lover like me, you should visit here.

The best soy crab i have had in Korea! Though menu is rather limiting, this small michelin star restaurant really aims to have best fresh quality crabs. Taste was amazing!
