Hyatt House Chicago - Medical / University District

We booked a room and found out it was overbooked. We had 3 people and only one bed (original room had a pullout couch). Talked to the front desk and they said they would comp our parking and give us a 30% discount. We agreed and decided to make do with the current situation. We asked for extra blankets and pillows for one of us to sleep on the floor, person at front desk said they would bring it to us right away. 1-3 hours later, no blankets or pillows. Had to grab it directly from the front desk. Even worse, they only gave us one pillow and two thin blankets that were like towels. The next morning, we tried talking to the GM, who was busy so we talked to the housekeeping manager and helped us comp our whole room because of the whole fiasco. Overall, would not stay here again. I get overbooking is a common practice but front desk didnt even offer to move us to a different hotel or get our requested blankets and pillows! The only good thing was the housekeeping manager that took accountability and helped us.

My Sister and I have DEFINITELY placed Hyatt House Chicago Medical District on the top of our Chicago places to stay!!! Everything from the room layout to the staff was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! We had to come to Chicago to be with our dad who is hospitalized at Cook County/John Stroger’s hospital, so we searched for places near. Hyatt House is literally across the parking lot from the hospital, so location wise was perfect. We entered our room which was VERY clean and spacious for two. There was plenty of storage space and a small kitchen area that included a sink and stove top. We are a little germ cautious so we usually bring our own cleaning supplies. We didn’t need to use them (we still ran a bleach wipe on the knob’s and toilet for peace of mind), this room was very clean. The staff were super friendly and helpful. They showed us how to get to the hospital, and when we came back they were very caring about how our visit went. The restaurant and bar on the 2nd floor are nice additions. You don’t have to just sit in your room if you don’t want to leave out. D.J you were one of our favorite parts of our stay if not our favorite part!!! He greeted us every time he saw us, he was attentive and helpful. We simply mentioned towels and he had them ready for us when we returned. He asked about our father’s health and his concern for our current mind state every time and it truly felt genuine. It was also my sister’s birthday during our stay and he wanted to make sure she was also able to celebrate. D.J made everything about our stay and checkout just amazing and simple! He was a topic with another set of guests we met at the bar who was also extremely happy with his service. We are truly grateful to you and we hope to see you our next stay!!! A good hotel location if you’re planning to attend a concert at United Center. Just last night I went to see aespa there 😁! It’s a shorter walk to the arena than Google Maps says, I’d say about 9 minutes max as long as you know where you’re going. There is also a bus stop a minute walk away if you don’t know the directions, $2.50 and it takes you to the “Madison” stop which is where the United Center is. The hotel suite itself is pretty clean, comfortable and the ambient lighting makes it perfect for photos. Chick-Fil-A, Starbucks, and Cinnabon is very close around & the area has a clean, safe vibe overall. The only downside for me was the unsanitary buffet area. There are utensils with food stains at the buffet and many of the cereal bowls have food crumbs on them as well. P.S. Make note, they charge an extra fee of $30 for each night parking in their lot!

Reception services were excellent however breakfast area and breakfast requires some changes. If staying longer everyday will have same option. Location is wonderful. Parking available however it’s paid one. Found cockroach inside the room. Room service required to be improved.

Stayed at the Hyatt House for 5 days due to a family member having a extended stay at Rush Hospital and I live 2.0 Hours away Rooms : Somehow I got a Handicapped room … OMG it was Hugh. I had a room that had a Den with sofa , full size Fridge , Stove & microwave & Two Queen beds .& 2 TV's Reason for 4.0 Stars is that my floors where a bit dirty and could of used a extended vacuuming & sweeping .Bedding & Bathroom had some stains also. Service : Great .. everyone very helpful and pleasant to deal with Location : For me it was a God send to be close to the Hospital .5 min walk from my hotel room to Families Hospital Room Breakfast & H Bar Ok ..Typical Hotel fare. Eggs, Bacon, etc... 2.0 Cents If you need to be close to the Medical Center 's this is the place as your 0.3 away Cool remodel of old Cook County Hospital .Hallways are HUGH . Some street noise as it next to 3 hospitals (Ambulances ) Uncovered Lot Parking is $30 a night & there is a Live Security guard on sit overnight Last thing ..Was there 5.5 days & saw NO GHOSTS .Was kinda bummed

I paid nearly $2,000 for a room that was far from clean. The toilet had rust stains, there was lip gloss left on the windowsill, the cups were still damp from condensation, and crumbs were scattered under the ottoman. Things escalated when I returned home with bites on my legs and my friend had bites on her arms. When I called to inquire about the possibility of bed bugs, I expected better service, especially given the price. The manager promised to call me back but never did, and instead, they rented out the same room again. I strongly advise against staying here

For those traveling to/from and around Chicago without a car, this hotel in the historic former Cook County Hospital is easily accessed from the Illinois Medical District (IMD) station of the CTA's Blue Line. The rooms are clean and spacious and offer appliances for in-room meal preparation. The complimentary breakfast is good but the dining space can be crowded.

I would really like to give the hotel more than 3/5 stars but there is just so much "low hanging fruit" it is ignoring to make a better impression. First the positives - it is a very nice looking hotel. They have truly done this historic building justice in its redesign from an old hospital to a very nice looking hotel. The staff were extremely friendly in all interactions. In terms of location, it is very nicely positioned in Chicago where jumping to any part of the city is very convenient but without being in the mix of a lot of traffic. It is also much quieter than you would expect. BUT, as some others have mentioned, there are some issues and they begin with the parking. The parking lot owned by the hotel just isn't ample enough. We were fortunate that we arrived early enough in the day that we were granted a parking pass. However, our son who was also a registered guest arrived later and was given directions to other parking garages located a couple of blocks away. Room issues - despite having three registered guests in our room, there was only a blanket and a pillow in the room to accompany the pull out sofa ... no fitted sheet, no top sheet. There were also only two towels and two washcloths in the room. We were able to get additional towels and washcloths and shower gel earlier when we noticed that the shower gel was completely empty, but we did have to wait a while and didn't want to wait for additional sheets when it was time to go to bed so we just dealt with it. Bar issues - Only two taps and one was a cider. That was disappointing. Breakfast issues - The food was so-so and honestly I have had better from hotels with fewer stars. The organization of it was a bit of a mess as well. The only salt and pepper available are shakers in the buffet line ... nothing available in the dining area (which is a completely different room) and no salt or pepper packets available to take to your table. One dish was very cold when I got it. They ran out of bagels one day. I had to go through a few plates to find a clean one one day. I had to turn the lights on in the food serving area one day (this was about 30 minutes into the service and everyone else was just going through in the dark). Cleanliness - already mentioned an issue with some dirty plates but it is also unfortunate that the tables are never cleaned. The 2nd floor area that has the dining areas, gathering areas, pool table, and bar is an excellent place to sit and gather. However, every table stays filthy and I never once saw a single person wiping any of them. I sat in the dining area one morning for a couple of hours and all tables had to be wiped by the guests circulating to them. I really didn't hate this hotel. I am more just frustrated that all the things that were obviously wrong are very simple fixes and there didn't seem to be any effort towards any of them.
