This bar restarant is very busy, but it's worth the wait.
You'll be greeted by a kind hostess who will advise you how long it will take for your table to be ready as well as, if space permits, will give you the option to wait at the bar and enjoy a nice drink - heads up, they will also serve you food at the bar, however keep in mind that the bar area is first come first serve.
They have a great, great drink - a vodka peach tea lemonade, which is made with a local spirit, Firefly Sweet Tea Favored Vodka - this will be a great summer drink for my partner and I back in California, where currently, the heat is nearly unbearable. Take note, the bartender will offer to make your drink with a double shot for a paltry sum of $3.50, it's worth it.
After enjoying our drinks while watching basketball on the nice big TV with the other patrons, we were seated.
The table was pretty tiny, but as you can see, James Brown sat here!
Our waiter promptly came and introduced herself and advised what the cards on the table were for: "The cards are supposed to be a conversation starter, not that you'll need them..." a witty statement which was funny to hear, at first, but one so witty she decided to say the joke to each and every table nearby as if she couldn't not say it, regardless, she had good customer service.
After ordering our food (we got the lobster and shrimp rolls, very delicious), I went to the restroom to wash my hands. At the sink, they had two different scents of salt scrubs to try, which I did of course. The "Holy City" salt scrub felt incredible (especially after that strong vodka tea lemonade downstairs), so good that we bought one for our hotel room to enjoy since the Hotel's hand soap is akin to the lye used in Fight Club and we needed something nicer.
Please note that if you do like their hand scrub, you can have it shipped to your home if you're from out of state - they also sell it on Amazon, so prime members get it quicker. But they have more scents in-store than on Amazon.
Anyhow - back to the food and service.
The manager was going around table to table, ensuring our experience was top-notch, he asked us to inform him if we needed anything, and while doing so, provided a sample of dessert.
If you are visiting Charleston, it would be quite unwise to skip this restaurant, as it is a staple of Charleston and has been open for generations.
Oh, and don't forget to check in - at the time I wrote this review, for checking in, you get a free appetizer of fried green tomatoes with a sauce on top - super delicious!!
Enjoy!!
