Ichiban Sando

First time trying the little hidden gem in San Diego and it was amazing. The chicken and egg sando was really good. Lots of egg, cheese, and drenched in sauce. And the sweet Japanese milk bread it came with was a perfect pair. The sandos are a bit pricey to be eating here frequently for me, but you do get your moneys worth with the quality of the food. Will definitely be coming back here again. Overall 5 ⭐️

I don't understand how they have a 4.4 rating. Everything about this place is mediocre. I ordered a mixed fruit sandwich for $9.73 and a misubi for an additional cost.The fruit sandwich wasn't filled with cream all the way, for the price they could have packed it with more cream and the fruit was soggy. The misubi had a weird taste and the rice tasted old, I couldn't finish it. Plus it's on the counter at the front where it's been sitting out probably all day without proper food temp. They have an employee named Stephanie who helps take orders, doesn't wear a name tag & when asked to give her name gets all defensive. Another young man was sitting behind the counter on his phone, I was standing looking at the menu for awhile before she came over and asked if I was ready to order. She speaks really low in a squeaky voice and can barely hear what she's saying over the music playing in the background. I had a couple questions about the menu being that it was my first time there and she seemed annoyed and bothered to answer them. She looks like she doesn't enjoy her job & is miserable there. They didn't have all menu items available at the time I was willing to come back to give it a second try but after tasting the quality of the food & their stank attitude, I'd rather keep my money and go elsewhere. Not coming here again. Food 1/5, Service 1/5, Atmosphere 1/5. Honest Review.

Nice little spot. Sandwiches are good. Portion size of sandwich and plates are generous. Great flavors in everything I've tried so far. The place itself is kinda dirty and makes me wonder how clean (or unclean) the kitchen is.

It feels like I'm back in Japan again with these better-than-konbini sandos 👍🏼 Personally, I recommend any of the Rice Plate combos, the Menchi Beef sando, or any of the Egg Sandos. I haven't had sushi here yet, but the drinks are good too. They also sell different flavors of onigiri (rice ball triangles) and musubi, in limited quantities until gone (usually they start to run out after 2pm). You can order ahead using the website or via phone call. There is also a digital kiosk if you prefer that over waiting in line for the counter. They take cash and card (swipe, chip, tap = ok), but there is a charge for using a card (50 cents, I think?). There are dine-in and take-out order options available, but no delivery (as far as I know). Seating is limited since it's a small restaurant, so if you're hungry during rush hour, I recommend ordering ahead of time and as take-out. There's no outdoor/patio seating or public restrooms. Parking is somewhat difficult depending on when you arrive, the size of your car, and which of the two public parking lots (free) you park in. They play music in the dining area but otherwise it's relatively quiet outside of the hustle/bustle of lunch & dinner rush hours. Edit: For anyone who hasn't been to Japan, the fries are prepared Japanese style, which means they come unsalted and with no sauce. Be sure to ask the staff for salt and ketchup packets if you want it, or it probably won't be included in your take-out order.

Let me start by saying that I’m rating this place based on the quality of food, the flavor, and value for money. I would recommend this place for take out. The dine in experience left something to be desired. The service was fantastic but the atmosphere just isn’t there. I would love to see this little restaurant get a makeover because their food speaks volumes. I fed my partner and I for $40 and we got a TON of food. We got 2 sandwiches, 2 large drinks, and an order of fries to split. Their milk bread was toasty but soft and so delicious. The meat had amazing flavoring and crispness. The slaw was super good too. We enjoyed our milk teas, honestly this place is great. I would highly recommend and definitely come again.

The place is nice, cashier nice, everything was nice and that sushi “IS”the best sushi. The place is more like a take out food place. If they think in open a new place more finest, elegant vibe and service that sushi won’t disappoint them! 🫶🏼

If your looking for a taste of Japan this as close as it gets. Sandwiches are delicious and the variety is awesome. If your not sure what to try the sampler boxes are the way to go

Food was yummy and my drink was really good, loved the boba pearls they seemed pretty fresh not old & overly mushy. (Drink is fairly big so you can totally share it, plus it’s sweet so yeah definitely drink some water after.) The packaging was pretty cute for one of the sandwiches my husband purchased, I didn’t go inside so I can’t really comment on the actual establishment itself, but my husband said it was cool, nice and clean. I would definitely say check them out if your anywhere near H street in Chula Vista.

Although it's a bit far from where I live, I definitely think Ichiban Sando (and its hidden business partner Hako Sushi Box), is worth the drive every now and again! - PARKING - There are some spaces in the lots left and right of the building - just beware of any specific spaces reserved for other businesses! - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - The inside isn't too big, maybe enough space to fit 20 people comfortably! They have large menus so it's easy to read everything. After ordering, it took around 10-15 minutes to get our food. Really nice staff here, super friendly and welcoming! - FOOD/DRINK - Vietnamese Coffee ($4.50): Super strong in coffee flavor, just the way it should be! Thai Tea ($4.00): Also a great depth of flavor from the Thai Tea - they also mentioned it wasn't made with real milk for those lactose intolerant! Shrimp Katsu Sando ($11.50): So crispy and so flavorful!!! The Katsu was well fried, and the sauces in the sandwich were delicious! Loved their milk bread too! Fruit Sando (8.50): The fruit is so fresh and the cream has just the perfect amount of sweetness! The milk bread again is so soft!! Sugoi Medium Box - You Pick ($70.00): You get to pick 4 special rolls, either 10pc nigiri or sashimi, and one side! So many amazing rolls to choose from - it was hard to decide! We got the Dragon Roll, Rainbow Roll, Hako Special Roll, and the Salmon Lava Roll. Everything was so fresh and delicious!!!! - OVERALL - An amazing spot that more people should try out! Come for their sandos and their sushi boxes!

very yummy katsu sandos that are a bang for your buck!! the portions are huge and they have a wide selection on their menu thats not just sandos. only docking a star down because of the sauce, the protein was good, however, i felt like the sauce inside was just lacking extra flavor. also so happy that they have the strawberry sandwich, and was so excited to finally try it! other than that im so excited to come back and try their sushi boxes!

I came here after being enticed by many social media ads. I had the chicken katsu sando with a side of curry. It tasted ok on its on and much better with the curry sauce on top. My partner got the shrimp sando and said it was one of the best things he had ever tasted. The wait took a while but it was understandable as they were understaffed. The staff that did help us was nice and apologetic. Next time I will try one of their egg sandos.

Delicious sandos!! I got 3 kinds and they all hit the spot, especially the spicy chicken katsu sando They use this katsu sauce which helps balance out the plainness of the milk bread. I just wish the bread was softer as it was quite crunchy from the toasting. I also ordered their Viet coffee and matcha milk which were both a bit sweet for my liking.

If you're not local to Chula Vista or surrounding areas I would say that this place is still worth the drive. I came down from North County to try this spot that everyone has been raving about! I am so glad I did. First things first: This restaurant is on the main drag called H Street, there IS a small parking lot but I imagine if you don't come early it'll pack up very fast. It's a small eating area, it's very no frills and there is NO bathroom, they do have a sink to wash your hands though. If you order for eat-in just keep in mind there is that limited seating. The food: A friend and I split 4 sandos (trust me it was too much food lol but I wanted to taste a few of them). Beef Menchi, Egg Salad, Spicy Katsu, and Spam + Avo (egg and cheese). I am glad we tried a few because it really let me get a feel for what I liked. Beef Menchi: Crispy and flavorful and very tasty, I would recommend this! I only have one gripe: I didn't feel the meat reached the back of the bread. Egg Salad: Very mild flavor, love a soft-boiled egg situation, but I think it needed more salt and pepper or special seasoning (I'm talking about MSG) Spicy Chicken Katsu: Not super spicy, they add fresh jalapeno to it, which I think adds spice, and the sauce on the katsu has some kick. Spam + Avo: The Avo on mine was a bit brown but I get how life works so no dings for that. The sauce drizzled on top might be Japanese mayo but I am not sure, it was a salty-sweet kind of sando and I liked it.

I'm glad I was finally able to try this spot! Order: SUSHI - Rainbow roll & Yellowtail sashimi: The portion was really good! The quality itself wasn't as fresh as I hoped but overall decent & curved my sushi cravings. KATSU SANDWICH: My husband enjoyed this! He thought the radio of chicken vs. bread was a little off. There was alooooot of chicken that we aren't complaining about but the bread wasn't as big / fluffy as the other photos showed. CUSTOMER SERVICE: The staff was very nice! I think they were under staffed because it was a bit of a wait, like 30-40 minutes after we ordered.

Personally was not a big fan of the sandwiches. The Katsu sandwiches were too sweet and there was too much bread in relation to the inside. Also, the fruit in the sandwich was weirdly sour... Made my stomach hurt after.

Overall: It was Thanksgiving and we wanted something convenient and cheap. It was easy to order and relatively easy pick up. Aesthetically, it looked great. The restaurant was a little small but we didn't dine in so we didn't care. FOOD: It satisfied our cravings for sushi. HOWEVER, I would say the rice itself was al dente (having pieces that are kind of on the hard side) that me and my partner did not enjoy. We selected each of our rolls because I noticed that a lot of the pre packaged combo meals had sushi rolls with cream cheese (which I don't like in my rolls). Also, note that it has to be eaten right away-ish (or at least same day) because it tastes like its at it's end. I also got a fruit Sando (strawberry), it was good, the milk bread was nice, the cream wasn't too sweet - the ONLY nitpicky thing that I had was because of it was the whole strawberry instead of being cut in half, it was difficult to eat the sandwhich without things falling over everywhere. We are hoping to come back and try their Sandwiches as they look very delicious.

Decent food, decent prices. This restaurant is extremely tiny which forces you to order to go. However the togo packaging is in desperate need of improvement. Fried katsu type food is the specialty here but the breading is softened by the packaging which traps the steam inside. By the time you get home to eat, the food becomes mush. The plate entrees comes with fries too which sounds good to include but that becomes mush too if you order togo. The restaurant would benefit from changing to a vented style box like many other stores that focus on fried food. The taste of the food is decent and the prices reflect that. Don't expect a juicy tender pork katsu like a sit down Japanese restaurant. The pork katsu here is more like a fast food style. Quantity is good for the price.

Ichiban Sando is a tiny shop set up on H Street. It's tiny, but has a mighty punch. I had the Shrimp Sando. It's filled with large shrimp and was pretty tasty. Not too heavy for a deep fried sandwich. I really enjoyed the combination of the crunch of the shrimp and the chewy brioche bread. My daughter had the fruit Sando. It was light yet flavorful. The milk bread was delicious yet did not overwhelm the fruit. It complimented the fruit filling perfectly. My wife and daughter had their teas with boba. Both agreed they were pretty good. Overall, a nice spot for a Sando. My next visit I gotta try the Katsu chicken Sando. Apparently, they have Haku Sushi Box attached to their location. A definite must try

I found this place on Instagram. They have a great social media manager because everything looks delicious! Nevertheless, it's a whole on the wall! From the outside you wouldn't even think it's a good place! Food is amazing! I got the sushi box and the egg salad sandwich, some boba too. Everything a 10/10!!!!!! (But keep in mind they don't have sushi on Mondays!) The place doesn't have a bathroom and it's very small. They have a little bit of parking. And the service is okay, they had one lady taking orders and she was so incredibly shy I couldn't even hear what she was saying and it took us like 15 mins to order because she kept getting confused. Kinda annoying.

I think my true rating of this spot might be more of a 3.5-3.8 range, but I'll have to round up with the star system. For the food, my opinion Still stands. Inside, delicious ingredients that are cooked to perfection. Outside, just okay bread that falls apart. Also, these sandwiches are pretty stacked, so it is hard to get a good bite, and it can get pretty messy. The chicken Katsu is really good! Juicy chicken, crispy outside. I would love to try their plate, maybe next time. I enjoyed the flavors of the egg sando. This one was not an egg salad, but a scrambled egg. Service was fine. The girl at the register was polite. They no longer have the little kiosk to order from. The inside was hot. Door open, sun shining in, I couldn't tell if the AC was working but it was hot inside. As far as cleanliness, it was okay. It wasn't dirty. The table we sat at was pretty wobbly, so that was a little bothersome, but we didn't complain. But just okay.

Food is good, craft style egg and specialty sandos. Location is a little random but glad to know I don't have to drive all the way to convoy for a Korean, Japanese inspo sando. Shrimp patty and the regular egg, bacon avocado are my go to orders.

The chicken in the sando was very tender and juicy! I wish it had a little more flavor, or maybe we should've asked for more sauce at the side. I'm a big sauce person though. I think the radish needed some more pickling time. A fan favorite is the fruit sando! Everyone in our group loved it! The cream was fluffy and sweet but not overly sweet! It was pretty busy for lunch on a Sunday, so we had to wait a bit for a table, but no worries! We got a seat right before our food came out! Everyone was nice, so thank you for the experience! We will be back!

Been wanting to try this hole in the wall for some time now. Tonight, we made it a date. I tried the Chicken Katsu Sando and GinaBee chose the Kimchee Chicken Sando. Both baskets come with a side of Daikon (pickled radish) chunks. Both sandwiches were made with two large slices of milk bread. The Chicken Katsu was sandwiched between a bed of green cabbage slices and jalapeños. It was delish! The Kinchee Chicken Sando sat between a bed of sliced red cabbage. Not sure if they added a thousand island-like sauce, but I ate GinaBee's other half. I washed my meal down with a Strawberry Watermelon Smoothie. Yuh-mee! We'll be back!

Ichiban Sando stood out to us as a dinner option because how often do you see a Japanese sando spot? If you're me, not often. We made our way over and and ordered via POS and did not interact with any staff. We ordered a spicy chicken katsu sando on their housemade milk bread with a side of fries. The inside of the shop had a stench to it which caused us to wait outside while our to-go meal was being prepared. The seating area was a bit rundown and not an ideal environment to enjoy food. The restaurant was empty while we were there yet it took ~15-20 mins before our order was ready. Nonetheless, our spirits were high as we zoomed back to our hotel to indulge in our sando. One big bite and wow, the sando really hit the spot! The chicken katsu, crunchy slaw, and spicy sauce all went really well with the soft and fluffy milk bread. We were happy with the sando. The fries on the other hand were unfortunately stale, unsalted, and underwhelming. Pricing is reasonable and parking was easy (small private lot.) The spot really has a lot of potential as their sandos are good! If they worked on an a face-lift for the interior of the shop and brought down prep time, I'm sure it'd make customers a lot happier. Overall, I'm glad to have visited!

I've been here once before, right when they opened and I remember thinking the chicken katsu sandwich was just *okay.* Here I am again years later and lovingggg the egg sando! The presentation was not all there but only because we got it to-go, so the sauce got everywhere haha! But the egg was so so fluffy and soft, and the sandwich overall tasted like something my grandma used to make me. It's definitely on the simpler side, but I really enjoyed it! My boyfriend got the chicken katsu with extra fries, and he also seemed to enjoy his! The fries were really nice and salty and crispy! He's the one who picked up our food, and he also said the person working the register was very nice. Lastly, the smoothies were really good. My banana smoothie had nice flavor and I always love lychee jelly. I recall seeing fruit sandos sold here on Yelp, but I guess it wasn't on the menu today! Despite this, everything else was just great :)

I walked in and there was a weird smell in there maybe from the decorations idk.. the woman at the register walked off when I walked in so I had to wait for her to come back before I could order. I ordered the Shrimp Katsu Sando with fries (which did not come with the sandwich). She said they only had brioche buns left.. left? I got there around 1130, they had just opened.. why are they out of things already.. the shrimp Katsu Sando was a lot smaller than it looked on the picture and the flavors weren't evenly distributed. Some bites were packed with flavors and some not so much. Kind of felt like the sandwich might have been carelessly thrown together. The fries were mediocre at best.. but honestly it was okay. I want to go back and try more of the sandwiches but I'm not in a rush to come back..

Ichiban Sando offers a variety of delicious, delightful sandwiches in a humble establishment. My only complaint was that the restaurant seemed to slightly smell like a public restroom while we were there (plumbing issues maybe?) but other than that, we loved the place! There's shared parking on the left and right sides of the building. There is some seating but I wouldn't recommend it for large parties that want to sit together. Service was good and the staff was kind and patient with us. Our group ordered the Egg Sando w/ Avocado, Pork Katsu Sando, Egg Salad Sando, and the Fruit Sando. My favorite was the Egg Salad Sando because it was the perfect balance of savory flavor but light enough to not leave you feeling heavy afterwards. Each sandwich we got was honestly delicious and I encourage you to explore the menu and try a few things!

I paid $18.32 for a $10.99 pork belly rice bowl and a large Mango milk tea $5.74 plus $1.50 for boba and jelly. The pork belly was actually really good and not gristly. The Kim chee was also good but the pickled cabbage was just okay. The milk tea was okay. It didn't have much jelly or boba in it. The reason I give it 3 stars instead of higher is that everything smells like that industrial soap. While I waited for my order, I got water and the water tasted like cleaner. I'm guessing the container it was in was cleaned with that. Immediate turn off. Don't think I'll be back.

We heard about this little shop from Instagram and decided to check it out. We ended up trying the chicken katsu and kimchi chicken sandwiches. The chicken was very good and they give you a good amount! The sauce on the kimchi sandwich was flavorful too. I wasn't a big fan of the bread, it was very bread-y and didn't go well with the chicken. We also tried the Thai tea with boba. I love Thai tea and the tea here was good but the boba was small and very squishy. Overall it was a decent meal and good service. It's one of those places I would recommend people try so they can make their own opinion. Because the food was good, it was just not something I would personally crave.

The food was good! That's definitely worth the 3 stars. Unfortunately the service and the cleanliness of the location left a lot to be desired. It felt like we were sitting in the storage area with tables and chairs stacked on top of each other. There was also a smell, not strong but not good or something you'd like to smell when eating. The cashier was extremely hard to hear and could not care less to be there. - Brown sugar boba slush 5/5 - Chicken katsu sandwich 4/5 Nice and hot and right to your table. Took a little longer to come out but clearly was made fresh to order. Slightly salty

Food Presentation was nice. Unfortunately the strawberries in the fruit Sando was bad and tasted like mold. Our drinks weren't anything special. Place had a hole in the wall feel. Short staffed. ***note: Half of the stuff you see on Yelp are no longer part of their menu.! Super disappointing as a touring visitor.

Ichiban Sando in Chula Vista, CA This Japanese sandwich and tea shop features boba teas, smoothies and sandwiches of pork cutlets, chicken cutlets, fried fish, fried shrimp and rolled omelets. I was really excited to try this for the first time but personally it wasn't that good - the homemade milk bread wasn't very sweet as I'd hoped (taste like any white bread) and it was breaking apart as I was eating the sando while the katsu wasn't really crispy. The mixed fruit sando was ok. FOOD: - Egg salad sando - Mixed fruit sando - Spicy chicken katsu sando - Chicken katsu sando - Katsu rice plate

I was so excited to finally try this place and was so disappointed. 1. Booked the night before online and the sushi box was still 30 minutes behind from my scheduled pickup time. 2. Young girl with glasses (cashier) assisting the cooks was wearing no gloves as she held the 2 shrimp tempura and who knows what else. So she handles cash and food with her bare hands? 3. Crunchy Dorito roll had what...one dorito sprinkled on top? Food quality didn't even make up for the disappointment. The presentation was beautiful though.

Stopped in to get lunch for the family so we tried a few of the sandwiches. We had the Spicy Kimchi Chicken, chicken and, fish sandwiches. I really liked the spicy chicken, but the other sandwiches were a little bland tasting. The amount of meat in the sandwiches was good, and it left us filled. I would come back and try a few more items, but maybe get a little extra sauce to dip them in. The staff was very helpful in the ordering, you can use a touchscreen to order, but I ordered at the counter where they were able to answer a few of my questions. They also offer sushi, so I may be back to enjoy the vibe and good food.

First timer at Ichiban sando. I pass by this place all the time and had no idea it was across from the Chula Vista mall. I tried the mango milk tea, the taro frappe, and shrimp sando. The mango milk tea was a bit too sweet but the barista happily adjusted the sweetness after. Ordering was convenient. You can use the self serve POS in front or be helped by a cashier. The inside of the cafe is cute and decorated with art. I'll be back to try other sandos.

I'm always down for a thick breaded sandwich and so we were excited to be able to try Ichiban Sando as we happened to be in the area. We oredred a pork katsu and a shrimp sando with a honey milk tea while we waited. The honey milk tea was a bit of a challenge to get mixed in as honey and cold temps aren't the best mix but it eventually got all mixed in not bad but very sweet....if that's not your thing then ask for less sweet. The sandos themselves weren't huge but it'll suffice for a meal. Both were tasty and defiintely worth the price premium for stepping up from your typical fast food place. The fries were nothing special though, just kind of an after thought. Next time I'l skip on those to try more variety of sandwiches!

This place is hidden but the sandwiches are so good. They recently started serving sushi in a pizza box!!Best sushi in Chula Vista so far!! I've had twice in two weeks and same outcome very delicious!! We ordered online and got it to go!!

Visited 8/23/2023 Visited today for the first time. This place didn't disappoint. I went crazy and tried four different Sando's along with some wonderful French Fries And a Creamy Drink called The Brown Sugar Milk Slush. Needless to say most went home with me. Started with The Bacon and Avocado Egg Sando. It was an excellent Breakfast Sandwich with a great combo of flavor's. Next I had The Shrimp Katsu Sando. Loved this one. Excellent Flavor and I'll be back again for this. Then went with The Spicy Pork Katsu Sando. The Pork was moist and tender not dried out at all. Another Winner. Last of the Sando's was The Kimchi Chicken Sando. What a Tasty Collection of flavors. Chicken was moist and succulent with great flavor. I couldnt resist Trying The Pork Belly Rice Bowl. Wow what a burst of flavor and another favorite of mine. With a order of Fries and a side order of tasty House Made Curry for Dipping was all I could sample. For a pallet cleanser I tried The Fresh Mango Fruit Sando. Great way to finish. I Will Return. Can't wait to return and try more of the menu.

What a great hidden gem in Chula Vista. I walked in and was greeted by a kind guy who asked me if I had any questions about the menu. He recommended the shrimp sando which is one of their best sellers. I ordered the chicken sando with wintermelon milk tea with boba. Everything was really good and I devoured my whole meal. The price, portion and quality were all spot on My only minor critique would be that I don't think I actually got the wintermelon milk tea. I didn't taste melon at all but nevertheless, the drink was delicious. I'll definitely be back to try the shrimp sando!

Saw an IG post about this place and was excited to try it. What a disappointment; first, it took over 30 minutes to get my food, and there was only 3 others ahead of me waiting just as long. I don't mind waiting for my food, but when I got it, it didn't exactly blow my mind. The milk bread tasted like stale white toast. It was not soft at all; I actually removed the insides from it; it was THAT bad. The menu did offer a brioche option for the katsu sandos, but the cashier didn't ask my preference when I ordered. Still, if the signature bread (made on site, apparently) wasn't great, I don't have much faith in the alternative. The chicken katsu was ok; not very crispy, but tasted fine. The coleslaw was a nice idea for crunch, but the flavors didn't really mesh well with the chicken. The insides of the spam n avo egg sando were tasty, but again; the bread ruined it for me. Didn't get much avocado flavor, but the eggs were fluffy and spam nice and salty. Also, they kind of went overboard with the Kewpie. Had the fruit sando, and for a second I thought it would be different because the crust was cut off, but the bread was just as stale and boring, even when not toasted. I did appreciate having a big piece of kiwi in there, but overall it was nothing special. Adding insult to injury, the tiny place had one trash can that was completely full and people had to place their trash on top and in bags next to it; not a very appealing sight. If I had one thing I enjoyed, it was the drinks. Tried the fruit teas: Hawaiian blend is a strawberry-pineapple tea, and tried the passion tea as well. They had real fruit and jellies in it, both very tasty. Also tried the brown sugar boba tea; the boba was chewy and seemed fresh. Lesson: You can't always trust SD IG foodie reviews.

Cute little sando spot in west Chula Vista. Seating inside, parking lot. Good variety of sandwich options, teas, there are also bowls. Staff are friendly and service was good. Will definitely be back to try other menu items! I got the shrimp katsu sando and the lychee boba tea. Everything was yummy.

The food was good and the portions were nice. The wait time was insane. I had to wait for over 20 minutes for my sandwich in their small dining area. It wasn't worth the wait.

I got the spicy chicken katsu with milk bread combination w the drink, I had the Vietnamese coffee. It actually wasn't spicy, more sweet than spicy but I also had curry on the side so I was dunking it in the curry. It was really delicious. Hot and fresh. The coffee was on the sweeter side. The area is across from the Chula Vista mall. It has its own parking lot. Small inside and has a self ordering kiosk. You can also order from the staff if needed. There is a sink inside, so you can wash your hands, but there is no bathroom. I will definitely come back again.

We had come here about a month ago while exploring our new city and came across this fun little sandwich shop one evening. We weren't super hungry so it was the perfect serving. The restaurant is a small little brick and mortar with a small parking lot adjacent to the side of the building. It's a cute little restaurant where you order at the front and they call you when your order is ready, but be prepared because it's very limited seating. We went during dinner time and it was pretty empty, but I assume there's usually a lunch rush so it may be easier to order take out during that time. After reading (and drooling) over some of the reviews, I opted for the shrimp sando to eat (and ordered an egg sando to go for my lunch for the next day). My boyfriend ordered the curry pork Katsu plate for his meal. I. Absolutely. Loved. the shrimp sando. The flavors were PERFECTION and i surprisingly found the portion very filling. Not too salty, not too strong of a flavor for any specific ingredient, really good flavors. The egg sando lasted pretty well for the next day and I loved the subtle flavors in that sandwich - not too mayo-y and the cheese was the perfect amount of saltiness needed. My boyfriend enjoyed his curry but felt it could've been spicier. Overall, this has become my favorite sammich spot in Chula Vista and definitely recommend it!

We passed by this area and decided to try something that is more unusual and we found this place that has Japanese sandos. The place is run for 2 people, maybe the owner and a employee /family member. Seems pretty busy with online order and table seems kind of full. This is a very small place, maybe 6 table of 2. We waited for couple minutes until they took our order. The sandos were fresh and good, we really enjoy the egg sando with spam and avocado ($10.50) and will need to add an extra $1 to help out with its eggs supply so ($11.50). We also ordered the chicken katsu and fish katsu, both was good, preferred the chicken katsu!

Lunch date here was a nice experience! Self-order kiosks pretty easy to use and awesome for those who prefer less contact. Food portions were absolutely filling and we still had enough to take home! As for drinks, the cookies and cream frappe and mango smoothie were delicious;not too sweet. I recommend upgrading them to large because you should treat yourself~ despite understaffed, I didn't mind the wait to get beautifully crafted food.

Service/Setting: This place has seating available for those that want to dine in. It's pretty plain inside, with only a few tables, but nice that it's available. I wouldn't say this is a place you'd want to bring someone for the atmosphere. The service is good here. If staff is busy, you can place your order yourself on a tablet and they'll prepare it right away. I got my food fresh and fast. Food: I ordered the Chicken katsu sando and added cheese. It came with a small side of pickled daikon. The first thing that stood out was how generous the portion was. They give you big pieces of chicken, so much so that I took some out and ate it separately to better handle the sandwich. The chicken itself was crispy and fresh. The sandwich included a slaw, pickles, and a sweet glaze, all of which were nice additions and helped balance things out. Lastly, homemade milk bread actually tastes homemade! Overall: Great food and something different in Chula Vista. Pick up some food to-go if you can. Worth a try for sure, I want to come back and try the shrimp.

I was happy to find a Japanese style sandwich shop in the area. The place is very small with just a few tables, like a fast food place you order at the counter, take a table and wait for your food. We ordered: - Chicken katsu sando.- the frying was not very good, not crunchy enough. - Egg sando with bacon.- eggs were perfectly cooked but the bacon was very badly cooked, it was impossible to eat. Either they use very low quality bacon or is old or they don't know how to cook it. The bread of the sandos were good. I won't be coming back anytime soon.

Delicious Japanese and dessert sandwiches at Ichiban Sando on H Street in Chula Vista, CA. We recommend the shrimp and Katsu spicy chicken Sando. My husband ordered the spicy chicken Katsu and I ordered the shrimp sando and split it to see which one we liked the best. Our favorite was the shrimp sando, but the chicken Katsu was also very good. The Japanese bread was delicious very different from American sandwich bread. We look forward to going back and trying the beef and pork belly sandwiches next. The kiwi on the dessert sandwich was a bit bitter for me, but still recommend the dessert sandwich. The service and ambiance was good. This was a unique and very tasty sandwich experience.

Food is good but expect to wait for it. First time going we ordered and ate there, for some reason 2 of our sandos came out a couple minutes apart but our third friend's sando took an extra 15 min after ours. Second time going I placed an order online for pick up, the pick up time was for 30 min after the order was placed. I got there right on time but they needed 32 MORE minutes to have my food ready, so in total over an hour to have my to-go ready. By the time I got home with it 5 min later my fries were cold and the katsu was lukewarm- also my order was wrong, I had ordered katsu curry but they gave me just the katsu plate. My fault for not double checking before heading out. Anyway the food is good enough to be a return customer, but make sure to double check your order and go when you're not in a time crunch.

I tried the kimchi chicken sandwich and it was sooooo good. Would definitely recommend if you're in the are. Also, had a mango honey tea that was very refreshing.

Ordered the chicken katsu and pork katsu. Both were good, but left a little to be desired. The sweet sauce on the pork sando was more memorable. I did enjoy the Japanese milk bread, which had a slight sweetness to it and a unique crumbly texture that grew on me. The fries were eerily similar to McDonalds fries, which I guess is a good thing? Overall, it was good, but I'll keep hunting for my go to Japanese sando spot.

Found this spot when we were in the area so decided to try it. Shrimp sando - I'd recommend this sando. The shrimp patty was flavorful. The house made milk bread was burnt so couldn't get the true taste of the milk bread. Pork katsu sando - very chewy and hard to bite off so made eating this very messy. The pork quality isn't great. The milk bread wasn't burnt but extra toasty so it felt dry. I couldn't taste the sweetness that milk bread usually has. We made both a combo (+$3) so tried their drinks. I wasn't expecting high quality boba but I was really disappointed in them. Honey Mango - did not taste like honey or mango. It was very artificial. The boba was very soft/overcooked and had no taste. Lychee green tea - this was much better and actually tasted like lychee green tea. The lychee jelly was good and much better than boba. Fries (+$1.50) - skinny fries so they were crispy. The fries were okay. Overall, I'd get the shrimp sando and skip the pork katsu sando and drinks.

Recently tried this place when we were in the area. They've got a variety of katsu and egg sandwiches as well as curry and katsu rice plates. We tried: egg, spam & avocado sando (my fave!) chicken katsu & kimchi w/ cheese sando Their katsu has such a nice crunch and the bread is really nice. I'm more partial to the egg because I loved the combination of the fluffy soft egg with the salty soft spam and creamy avocado. We don't get down to Chula Vista that often, but I would like to try some of their other items sometime.

Got the shrimp Sando and Chicken Katsu sando. Both had plenty of shrimp and chicken. Reasonably priced and quick service.

Good sandos! I love this place for lunch. Bread light and fluffy. Cool aesthetically pleasing pizza box sushi.

Very yummy sandwiches, and the boxes contain a load of food. The ambient is something to be desired though, we had to clean our own table as no one made any attempt in the hour we were in the restaurant.
