I recently had the opportunity to visit III Forks. Unfortunately, my expectations were not met. The atmosphere and interior were very classy and I appreciate the wonderful service and formality of the establishment. When we first entered, we checked in with our reservation and were placed in a booth. We requested a table instead and the staff was incredibly kind to move us. However, there were many tables available and we were sat at the one directly next to the kitchen doors. I felt so bad to request another seating change, but for the price we were paying, this location took completely away from the experience. Fortunately, we were able to move to another table in the back room and it was perfect. This table was much more quiet, romantic, and worth the cost. I want to thank the staff again for their flexibility with this situation.
To begin, we ordered a glass of the Merlot and the Bee's Knees cocktail. The Merlot was a classic and the cocktail was strong, but very good as well. Our waiter recommended the Bee's Knees as the best cocktail and he was right, it was great! For our appetizer, we ordered the Beef Croustades. These were wonderful and definitely one of my favorite things of the night. The beef paired beautifully with the crunchy crostini. I also want to take a moment and appreciate the bread the butter that came with it. The bread was fresh, warm and wrapped gingerly in a napkin for us. The butter was delicious and came accompanied with sea salt granules on top. It was great!
For the entrees, we ordered the American Waygu Ribeye and the New York Strip. We requested medium rare on both and our waiter told us about the option of III Fork's medium rare plus. We went with this 'plus' feature on the American Waygu Ribeye. The presentation of both steaks were excellent, including a real flame next to the Ribeye! The steaks also automatically came with sides such as mashed potatoes, creamed corn and snap peas with peppers. However, especially considering the prices of these steaks, we were disappointed with their flavor. More specifically, their lack of flavor. We ordered Truffle Butter with the Ribeye but the whole thing was just more bland than we would have liked. The New York Strip had a little more flavor but it was still pretty plain in comparison to other steaks I have had. Additionally, the New York Strip was a little more rare than I would have liked and I wished I had requested it to be cooked more than my usual medium rare.
We also ordered one side, the Fried Brussel Sprouts. The sides here are large and meant to be shared, which is exactly what we did. However, we honestly did not really like the Fried Brussel Sprouts either. They were not the best, nor the worst, however, we just felt like they could have been better.
Overall, the service was wonderful and each staff member I interacted with was very nice. The appetizer we chose, Beef Croustades, and the bread were also excellent. However, for the steaks, we just left feeling let down. When reviewing these steaks, I have to only give them 3 stars. This is based on price in comparison to quality and flavor. It is also in comparison to the other steaks I have had the privilege of trying around the area. Ultimately, I am not sure if I will return but you never know. Thank you!
