D.C.’s Best Italian Restaurants | Eater DC

"The Glover Park Hotel’s lobby-level dining attraction returned to its Italian roots in November as a dreamy neighborhood newcomer. Divino takes up the original Casolare space that became Glover Park Grill, and the renovation called for a semi-open kitchen that puts its nightly pasta-making process on full display. Jet-back agnolotti, which gets its dramatic hue from activated charcoal in the dough, balances braised oxtail and Tuscan kale. Orange ravioli is another visually pleasing opener. Divino comes from industry vets Daniel Perron and Luca Giovannini, who reunite after working together years ago at Fiola Mare and Blue Duck Tavern." - Mekita Rivas

Absolutely amazing dinner! From the freshly made noodles to the dessert, everything was just perfect. Excellent service. There was a singer inside that was great. The fettuccine was 💯 on point. Clean bathrooms! Would definitely recommend coming here. Thank you.

I loved our meal here: meatballs in a delicious red sauce to start, followed by the orecchiette and the papardelle. All were delicious. Service was great as was the singer. Recommend grabbing a corner table and watching all the cute HK boys walk by while you’re enjoying a fabulous meal and live music! The only mediocre element was the apple tart.

One word: incredible! We had an absolutely fantastic meal at Il Divino. If you're looking for delicious Italian food near Times Square, look no further! Literally everything we had was incredible. First, our drinks: my mom’s rum and coke and my frutto Della passione e mezcal (mezcal passion fruit drink) were both super tasty! Now the food: complementary bread (5/5; fresh and delicious, it comes with an olive oil, herb, cheese mixture), pasta special (5/5; fresh fettuccine pasta w/ shrimp, clams, mussels, 1/2 a lobster, and calamari in a spicy tomato sauce. Truly phenomenal. The pasta was flavorful, perfectly seasoned and each type of seafood was perfectly cooked and plentiful), the Parpadelle Ragú Di Agnello (5/5; Fresh made parpadelle with a lamb shank ragu; once again perfectly seasoned, well balanced, and exactly as described. The ragu had amazing flavor depth and the dish was topped with a few slices of yummy sharp cheese; overall, very very good), and lastly, grilled mixed vegetables (5/5; simple and tasty. Paired really well with the parpadelle). The service was also amazing. We were quickly seated and the wait staff was just the right amount of attentive. The ambiance is quaint and intimate, while also being welcoming and fun, and our night was enhanced by Juan Flores singing beautifully throughout our meal. This would be a wonderful spot for a date night or just an amazing meal. I’ll definitely be back the next time I’m in NYC!

Third time eating here. We’re from PHL and make it a point to stop by when in the area. This place has never disappointed us. Mussels, chicken Parm, and Carbonara are fire. Bread doesn’t miss. Give this place a shot

Rarely dish out 5-star reviews on first time visits, but II Divino hit it out of the park on this first time dining experience. It's been over a year and back in town and decided to dine at II Divino in our old neighborhood, Hell's Kitchen. Had always walked by while living here, ironic we're only dining here now, lol. But it was excellent, really really good. The Food, Service, old school ambiance and all at a reasonable price. We had the Calamari Fritti, Fettuccine Carbonara, Rigatoni Bolognese and delicious warm bread. Everything is made fresh at the restaurant which one can taste with every bite. Camilia our waitress was top notch. This is a cool spot for just drinks with family and friends or a romantic dinner that won't set you back an entire paycheck; believe our check for two was less than $130 which included drinks. And a short 10min walk from the Theater district if that means something for you. Without a doubt, hands down recommend II Divino for an authentic Italian meal in a laid back chill atmosphere.

Google
They make my daughter's birthday amazing, and unexpected celebration at the end, which it was unexpected because I already paid the check. But the face of my daughter was adorable. They took the initiative to do it, because I mentioned at the beginning it was her birthday. We tried gnocchi at pesto (was great flavor) I did add the shrimp, I don't recommended with it. The shrimp was too dry. I liked the creme brulee

Google
Great spot for Italian food! The orecchiette with sausage and the risotto were both really tasty, and the tiramisu was the perfect finish—light and delicious. The service was super friendly and made the experience even better. Definitely worth a visit!

Yelp
Authentic! This is a beautiful restaurant with amazing service. Sat at the bar for lunch and was attended to with the utmost professionalism. It felt like casual fine dining. The wine selection was amazing and the food.. so incredible. Everything is homemade even down to the table bread's dipping oil. The gnocchi pesto.. if my stomach didn't get so full, I could have eaten another bowl. Tender, light, melts in your mouth. I'd get this again in a heartbeat. They take reservations easily on Open Table and offer a fantastic lunch special. Don't miss this restaurant!

Yelp
Impromptu dinner on a Saturday early evening. They were able to fit us in at 4 PM but they fill very fast! So RSVP if you're going during prime times. Delicious food and very fast service in a small space and there was a lovely multilingual singer that evening as well. It is a small restaurant and feels cozy and not too fancy but the food was excellent Italian priced well. We met a local couple early there and if I had more stomachs I would have ordered their food as well, but went for the specials and was quite pleased.

Yelp
What a beautiful and unexpected evening we had at Il Divino. My husband, our son, and I took my father--who has dementia--out for dinner. Shortly after we ordered, we discovered that Juan, the host, was also the evening's singer, entertaining the room with his beautiful voice and heartfelt covers of Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond, and many more. Frank Sinatra happens to be my father's favorite singer. Juan noticed how delighted he was when he recognized the music and began singing along. In a touching moment, Juan brought his microphone over and invited my father to sing with him. I hadn't seen my father that happy in years. He danced and sang throughout dinner--it was truly magical. As if that weren't enough, the food was phenomenal. We had the spaghetti carbonara, penne Bolognese, branzino, calamari, and lasagna. Everything was absolutely delicious. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
everything was great, good sized portions! romantic setting with great service. They also have cocktails which is pretty rare for an Italian restaurant, highly recommend!

Yelp
This place was so delightful, the ambiance was calm, dark, and even featured a live performance. We came upon reservation, and the staff was very friendly. They come with complimentary bread and oil (my favorite), and got started with drinks. I recommend asking the sever their recommendation, it will not disappoint. I saw a few ordering cocktails around me and I must say they do look promising! I ordered their rib-eye steak with greens and roasted potatoes. I prefer my meat cooked medium-rare and the cook was spot on! They're known for their pasta--didn't order due to health-- but it looked quite delicious. Would come back, I came on a rainy day, and it was a nice place to wind down.

Yelp
Fettuccini carbonara was great!! Really enjoyed this place. Would recommend to anyone in the area! Don't need a reservation or anything.

Yelp
It's Thanksgiving Evening and a friend suggested this restaurant for some good Italian cuisine. He had sent me Il Divino's info on Yelp and it automatically told me this place is good! It's right in Hell's Kitchen on 9th Ave between 49th & 50th Streets. Very casual dine in atmosphere, not your swanky NY style restaurant where you'd be required to dress smart casual. Another friend had come along to have some drinks and he was going to skip dinner. When all 3 of us had arrived, to our surprise they weren't that busy for a Thanksgiving evening. We got seated easily and greeted by our server immediately. First, we decided on drinks. One friend ordered beer, another ordered champagne, and I ordered red wine. Complimentary bread came next. So what did I order for dinner? There was a pre-fixe menu made special for Thanksgiving. This included an appetizer, entree, dessert and a glass of Prosecco. I chose Lobster Bisque to start off, followed by Turkey Tradicionale, and Pumpkin Pie was the only option yet perfect for dessert. Really authentic Italian restaurant, this place is legitimately amazing! Also would be a place to grab drinks at reasonable prices too. This location is walking distance from Times Square and just one stop away from Port Authority/42nd Street Station! Atmosphere is warm, lighting is dim, service is quick, servers are attentive with a full bar. My food was satisfying to celebrate the holiday. l'd most definitely come back again soon.

Yelp
If you're heading to Times Square, you should absolutely check out this quaint Italian restaurant! We had incredible service from Camila and food that knocked our socks off! The gnocchi was soft and pillowy in a creamy pesto. The chicken parm was hearty and cheesy. And the creme brûlée was truly the best I've ever had!!!!

Yelp
I always walk by this place and tell myself I'm going to try this place. Well last night was the night. I decided to give it a shot. Upon entering this place it was really nice a little on the small side. They had decorations due to it being Valentines Day. They had a live singer singing it was nice. We was sat pretty quickly the place was packed due to Valentines. The waitress approached us and ask us if we were ready. I got the bruschetta for appetizers and rigatoni beef bolognese for my main. My partner in crime got the penne alla vodka. Let's rate this food the bruschetta was plain bad there wasn't anything good about it point blank period the tomatoes looked like they were going bad and before it went bad they decided to use it on our bruschetta. Now boom our main come in. I didn't like mines there wasn't anything really bad about the plate it just wasn't for me I had rigatoni before but the beef had flavor the sauce was better this place rigatoni was just salty ASF! They didn't even put no RICOTTA like bruh. Anyways my PIC penne alla vodka was decent thou that's probably the only good thing I actually kinda enjoy. Maybe this place wasn't for me but maybe it will be for you. I probably just picked all the wrong stuff or maybe they were just too busy and were trying to get as much food as they can out. BRUSCHETTA 0.5/5 RIGATONI 1.7/5 ALLA VODKA 3/5

Yelp
very tasty and original Italian favorites. Use best ingredients. Linguini vongole best dish.

Yelp
I enjoyed our service and our server. He was a sweet man. Delicious bread with some garlic oil. Yum. We ordered bruschetta (4 pieces) and calamari for apps- both quite good. The sauce with the calamari was spicy but flavorful. I ordered spaghetti a la vongole- it was flavorful and yum. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meal and wine we ordered. So many good places to eat in NY and this can be one of them.

Yelp
This place was amazing! This was the highlight of our trip to New York. Authentic Italian cuisine. My MIL said it was just like her Italian mom would make. Fantastic service. We loved all of our dishes. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
We loved our dining experience at Il Divino! Service was excellent, our wait staff was quick, helpful with the menu, explained the specials and always refilling/cleaning! We had the fried calamari and bruschetta for appetizers. Entrees I did a spaghetti pomodoro with grilled chicken and my friend did the penne vodka with grilled chicken. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
The man + I visited this little neighborhood restaurant nearly 2 years ago (Nov 2022) on our way to a show. Unfortunately we were super rushed at the time but the amazing service + staff really stood out to us. So when we returned to NYC this week for another show we made sure to stop here again, with plenty of time this visit. We weren't disappointed! We started with the calamari which is always a favorite, but often has too much breading. Il Divino's calamari was PERFECT and the sauce (a simple marinara) was good enough that I wish they sold it in stores. For entrees, we split the sole and pesto gnocchi, both of which were delicious but the flavoring on the sole was absolutely exceptional! Like before, the service was friendly and fast. B O T T O M L I N E : Go! This place is definitely worth a stop!

Yelp
Easy to find on the corner of 50th and 9th - service is good as well as the food. Decent size dining area and love that it's on the corner with people-watching windows. Had the Ravioli Di Zucca which I think is worth yelping about. Butternut squash ravioli with ricotta cheese, asparagus, brown butter sage sauce. Such a nice surprise with the brown sauce and squash. Creamy and great balance of flavor. I had to dip my Italian bread in the sauce to sop up all that goodness. And then wash it down with a nice glass of Pinot Noir. No complaints. Friends had the Calamari Fritti for an appetizer and I had a bite and it was fine. One of them had the Caprese Salad and the tomatoes were hard to cut and looked anemic so would not recommend that appetizer. Other than that portions were adequate, prices were reasonable and we never felt rushed so I would recommend this place.
google avatar

Yelp
Cucumber cocktail was amazing. Food was delish. Calamari was good and my squash raviolis were excellent. The live entertainment made it fun. The patrons had fun singing along. Would highly recommend. Parking lot across the street very reasonable on best parking app. Great pre theater dinner spot.

Yelp
A great place for a good solid meal with outstanding service by all the staff all the way around . The chicken we had was great, explosive flavors and plentiful, their drinks are equally outstanding and are recommended by all . I loved this place , it was chill and I enjoyed our visit here and will soon come back in here when I'm back in beautiful New York City .

Yelp
Great service and food and extensive wine list. Views are amazing. Go here if you want to splurge with a special someone. Make sure to stop by the bathrooms on 5th floor. The staircase is decorated with photos of celebrities who have been there.

Yelp
This is where I had brunch today. I was there from noon till about 3:30 I had a beer with every plate the tiramisu and espresso were great and the end of that with a sambuca. The food and service were amazing.

Michel B.

Yelp
We have lived in Manhattan last 10 months, Il Divono became one of our standard haunts after the first visit. It is a great place, you feel welcome, the atmosphere is relaxed, homely, friendly, since we keep coming we are warmly greeted as old friends. The food is great, becoming a regular often mean developing favorites, and almost having repeats of previous fares. For appetizer we have not been there once without the Bruscetta Funghi, we jump at the Polpo Alla Griglia when there. Main course is often the special of the day, fish of the day, Osso Bucco, we have yet to find something which were not great. Our eternal 'downfall' is the Red Sangria, 1 pitcher becomes 2... Do not come expecting over the moon special fantastic, it will be great and for all the right reasons. You will not regret it.

Yelp
Fix the disgusting tonic water. Everything else is perfection. Bartenders 10/10, shows 10/10, food 10/10.

Yelp
Hit the spot. Fresh bread. Great service and location. Marcel was on top of it! The food is very good but not the very best Italian pasta I have had in this town! The calamari was good but the penne vodka was not the best.

Yelp
The food was delicious! The service was excellent.went there by surprise and glad we did. The atmosphere and music was so nice. Definitely stop here before your broadway show,

Yelp
We were in NY and happened on this small, busy restaurant and that was around 11 PM NY time....the food was incredible; traditional pasta and Salmon was delicious also. Staff sincerely kind with questions. Can't wait to go back when in NYC next!

Teresa T.

Yelp
In NYC for.an event. Dinner at Il Divino. Greeted warmly as we entered. Restaurant is small but inviting. Camilla was our server- so friendly & warm. We ordered the specials; burrata app w yummy salty sweet prosciutto, seafood pasta and pan roasted branzino. Just. Wow. Seafood pasta topped with a shell-on 1/2 lobster, with crabmeat, scallops, mussels, calamari on a bed of blk ink wide fettuccine with a crushed tomato garlicky sauce. So delicious. Large fillet of Branzino on a bed of just cooked veggies. Mushy veggies are a pet peeve so it was perfect. Super light lemon/garlic sauce. Superb. Both entrees were generously sized so we were skipping dessert. Until Camilla reco the house made tirimusu. Omg. So luscious and light - we ate every morsel. Il Divino went into our contacts for the next time we are in NYC. Absolutely nothing negative to say - what a gem!
google avatar

Michael J.

Yelp
For NYC, this was reasonably priced, relatively well situated, and above average dishes. They had a very friendly staff and a wonderful singer as well. I rarely go to the same place twice in NYC but I'm writing this review so I'll consider doing so here!

Yelp
Wonderful experience. Enjoyed the lunch special , included a glass of wine, appetizer and entree. Perfectly cooked and very nice portion for lunch. Our server was excellent . A lovely spot to relax during the hustle and bustle of the holiday crowds.

Yelp
We were regular customers and liked patronizing a local Italian place. It's obvious that this place always attracts tourists, and we are usually tge only locals, but we didn't let it deter us because we enjoyed the food. When Alex the manager was there the service was excellent. The same staff who knew us wouldn't be as attentive when he wasn't there but we still go when we wanted their certain dishes, but always noticed the difference of how they acted when he wasn't in. We were on vacation and haven't been there in over a month or so, and when we asked if Alex was in we were told he found another job. It was a bad sign when the older, short Mexican waiter acted like he didn't know us and spoke to us in Spanish when we walked in. We should have just turned around. Did he forget us so quickly or was he gaslighting us? The younger waiter who knows us was his usual dry self. If he wasn't waiting on us he usually pretends he doesn't know us as well. I love their Zuppa Di Mare but tonight it was watery. The owner had the chef remake it so ithen was good. Although skimpy on the seafood. They took the sole off the menu and replaced it with a fish of the day which is $42.00. My husband loved their sole which was $29.00. The former bus girl Carla got promoted to hostess. We always found her to be so warm. There is a terrible draft so we wanted to sit as far back as we can since they don't have double doors. When we came in the nice weather we would sit in the front. The end table was set for 4 and she said it's reserved. About 5 minutes later a couple of tourists were seated by Carla. They split an appetizer and that was it. I said something to the owner after we ate, and he said the table was reserved but it was a no show. It would have sounded plausible had it been about 15 minutes after we sat down, not 5. Then Carla should have said that we can move over to that table since our food didn't arrive as of yet. Obviously they care more about tourists than local regular customers. Service and ambiance are just as important as the food. The owner didn't seem too bothered. He disappeared because it smelled smoky in the kitchen., and never came back. I had to keep asking for water, whereas it would be poured without asking. We had to ask for bread and we were served ends. I asked for new bread and then slices were brought out but were cold. Anyway we got the check, and left and will never return. They can keep catering to tourists.

Yelp
This was the restaurant Rincon 50 and was newly rebranded. So far they're off to a good start! The food is typical southern Italian and should please most tourists looking for something good and not too exotic. The standout dish for me was the Gamberoni aglio e olio which had giant pieces of shrimp. Prices were reasonable (for NYC) and the service was very good. Overall a nice visit!

Yelp
Great location! My husband and I popped in here for a quick dinner after a day exploring the city! Very chill ambience and great service! The food and drinks were incredible. Highly recommend popping in for an authentic Italian meal! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Cute little neighborhood place with a great lively vibe. I like the large windows where you can still see what is going on outside. Bartender was attentive and my pasta was great. I'll come back for sure!

Betsy A.

Yelp
Forget about the 200 pizza joints in town and take time to enjoy an informal, quiet, intimate restaurant. The food is amazing and the service was spot on. This cozy bar/restaurant has an ambience that enhances the meal as well as the interaction of those in the restaurant. Prices are very reasonable and portions are generous. Il Divino is definitely in the top 10 in the city. Relax and enjoy!

Yelp
I had a fantastic dining experience at Il Divino on a Saturday night around 6pm. I had searched all afternoon for a last-minute Italian cuisine dinner reservation and luckily they had some openings. I was skeptical at first as there weren't many reviews online at the time of my reservation on 11/4/23 but I went with it. The service was attentive and friendly, the atmosphere & ambiance were great and the decor was lovely. We had ordered the following: Calamari Fritti, Polpette al pomodoro (homemade veal meatballs), Caprese, Zuppa del Giorno. Spaghetti con polpette, Pollo alla parmagiana, Pollo ai Porcini and Ravioli di Zucca al Divino...each dish was amazing and tasteful. Pre-tax total came to be around ~$180. Il Divino charges you an additional +3% tax if you use a credit card versus cash. The tip is at your discretion.

Susan P.

Yelp
Delicious! Everything is fresh. Local for us. Comfortable atmosphere and lovely staff. Just weatherwise if cold I wasn't as comfortable as I could have been.

Yelp
Formerly known as Rincon 50 . Opened by the same people! Never disappoints ! Check it out though! Brand NEW Menu and the food is absolutely AMAZING! Same great classy, low-key vibe as Rincon 50 once had.

Zach R.

Yelp
The server was nice but very busy. The food wasn't great. We had the sirloin and the fettuccini carbonara and neither were very impressive. Could've just been the dishes we ordered but we only had the one night to try something out.

Maria R.

Yelp
Great food at Il Divino, my go-to-place in Hell's Kitchen. An Italian restaurant with very good food, including pasta specialties, the tagliatelle d'agnello is the best I've had. Also recommended: burrata special, caprese salad, octopus. And the staff is very attentive and friendly, knowledgeable about Italian wines.
google avatar

Raven C.

Yelp
We stopped in for an early dinner and we will be back. Bread was good but the olive oil accompaniment was off the chain. I ate the red snapper special and was half way through it before thinking I needed to post about this special spot. The service was prompt and pleasant. They accommodated my daughter's lemon allergy. Her pasta was perfectly al dente. It's very clean. There are lights at each table providing a glow.

Yelp
First, the server was reluctant to give us a lunch menu even though the website offered a prefix. He gave us an attitude when we asked for the menu yet we were the only customers in the restaurant as it just opened. We ordered chicken parm. The chicken was hard to chew and the meat looked grey in appearance. We rarely ever complain but it was not edible. He offered to remake it but we are nervous with the quality. He then said he would take one drink off the bill. We each ordered a beer. He did remove one drink yet charged us a misc. fee. We paid but will never return and we live a couple blocks away. We will spread the word to avoid this place.

Yerina H.

Yelp
Walked in looking for pizza and boy did we find a great meal. This place was amazing food was fresh and delicious. Our waiter was great and accommodating, our meal was very good and the price was inexpensive for New York. We had the lunch prefix menus and honestly it was more than enough for and delicious. Hidden gem in Hell's Kitchen

James C.

Yelp
I ordered the chicken Parmesan last night, and believe me when I tell you it was the worst takeout I've ever had in my life. The chicken tasted like inedible garbage as did the sauce. Maybe the regular cook is off on Tuesdays? In any case, I will never set foot in this clip joint again; a total waste of thirty bucks.

Roger C.

Yelp
This is the best bolognese in HK, and I'm looking forward to trying other items on the menu.

Yelp
I just had lunch, and I had to immediately write a review on the food and the service here. My server, Marcello, was is attentive and just lovely to talk to. For a starter I had the bruschetta al fungi which was tasty and the bread toasted perfectly. For my entry I had the gnocchi tartuffo which was soft rich and creamy - absolutely delicious! The restaurant is close to me - on the corner of 50&9. Great ambiance inside with a bar and outdoor seating. Overall, a great experience. I will be back for sure. Thank you!

Nana C.

Yelp
Everything was amazing. The sangria was amazing. The food was bomb. I definitely recommend this place.
