The pizza is fantastic—crispy crust, just the right amount of char, and quality ingredients that actually taste fresh. I went with the classic Margherita and a white pie with prosciutto, and both were perfectly balanced and flavorful. The sauce has that rich, tangy depth that shows they take pride in the basics. Atmosphere is casual but cozy, with a laid-back staff that makes you feel right at home. It’s the kind of place where you can relax with friends over a cold beer and a hot pie without feeling rushed. Whether you’re in for a quick slice or a full sit-down meal, Il Mattone delivers. Definitely one of the better pizza joints in the area.

Google
Ya have to do better quality is poor and the fact I was picking up before closing usually people are generous and give something out since you want to avoid food waste but nope not even in there mind they gave me 4 slices and nothing with protein plus and unfriendly personality.Definitely never coming back !

Man! I’m so glad to see that Il Mattone made it through 2020 and the last four years! A photo of our family with the owner in front of the restaurant popped up in my memories feed, and I had to see if he was still going. He is a gem of a person. Was so friendly and helpful to our family, and the pizza was amazing. If we ever get back to NYC, Il Mattone is at the top of the list.

Google
Ventured into this place at about 7pm looking for a slice of pizza. Despite the door making the place look closed, the hand scrawled note advised us otherwise. We went inside and found an extremely authentic NY pizzeria. We asked for our slice of choice and they warmed it through. I had the pepperoni and bacon slice and it was honestly the best pizza I have ever eaten. The crunch on the base was perfect and the tomato sauce was just right. The meat was awesome, just enough heat in the pepperoni and saltiness in the bacon. I would highly recommend.

Google
Il Mattone is a hole-in-the-wall pizzeria on Beach Street. the tiny pizza shop has no seats—it’s basically a takeout and delivery joint. it’s a little messy inside but the interior is clean. there are small parks within walking distance if you want to eat al fresco and enjoy your ‘zza right away. il Mattone has a variety of pies and slices on display— their menu includes a variety of pasta and sandwiches, too. while there is no lack of good pizza places in NYC—Il Mattone hits this standard easily and serves up a very good to great classic NYC slice. grabbed two slices for lunch, and the ‘zza did not disappoint. the slice is everything you want in the old school New Yorker pizza. the slice is thin crust style—fairly crispy and a little bit of chew in the crust. the sauce is seasoned well balanced between saltiness, sweetness, and Italian spices. a soft melty blanket of cheese topping it all. all combining to make one delicious slice that will sate the hangriest of eaters. served super hot as i prefer. plain cheese slice, $3 + tip staff is curt and efficient.

Google
Staff were really friendly and the place felt authentic to an Italian pizza place. I got the barbeque chicken pizza; it was a nice slice but definitely not worth $6!

Google
I'm always finding great pizza places in Tribeca. This place is on the quieter side of the neighborhood. Great pizza with a lot of flavor and seasoning to it, but it had too much garlic. High quality cheese. It was the standard price for a slice ($3.00). They had a couple tables to eat but I just ate outside. Would recommend.

Google
If I could give them 10 stars I would best pizza in Manhattan great family good service.

Yelp
So I was downtown and I needed a quick bite and my homie Mel from Bubbys told me about this spot. He said their Pizza is official.. So in NYC that means something.. So off I went to Il Mattone. I looked at their Pizzas on the counter and it did look official. So I copped me a slice.. And I must say.. This spot is a hidden gem down in this Tribecca neighborhood. I eat a lot of pizza and let me tell you... This spot will not disappoint! I mean I had to order another slice! That's how you know if a pizza is good. The slice had the perfect cheese to sauce ratio. The crust was crispy which I love. The sauce flavor was perfect. I could definitely taste a bit of oregano. But not overwhelming at all. It was so good. You can order slices, pies and they have other plates you can order. Service was good. It's a Pizza shop. Guys were super cool. It's a small spot so not much going on other than orders being taken and they have one 2 seater table.. It definitely came in handy as I sat down and enjoyed my 2 delicious Cheese slices. So if you're in the Tribeca neighborhood and you are craving some pizza, this will definitely do the job! Definitely will not disappoint. Will grab yourself a slice or something down here. Have a great one everyone !

Yelp
Nestled away in Tribeca really good reliable spot, also on Too Good To Go they give a lot of slices! Very nice staff/owners, give my dog pepperoni slices when we walk by

Yelp
Il Matone serves up an amazing thin and crispy New York slice. There's a lot of construction scaffolding near the entrance, so it's kind of easy to miss if you're just walking by. The slices are well balanced with melty cheese and flavorful toppings. These slices have no flop. If you like your pizza thin and crispy, stop here for a slice or two. There's not really anywhere to sit, but eating a slice on the sidewalk adds to the New York experience.

Yelp
Fantastic pizza joint with great service. Wife and I were in the neighborhood and stopped by to grab lunch. She got the vodka slice and I got a regular slice and they were fantastic. We also split a sausage roll and loved it. On top of that, the service was great and the prices were awesome. Will definitely be back

Yelp
Not a huge pizza fanatic, unlike dh, but we drove allllll the way down here to try the pizza on a recommendation of a friend. It's a small, old-school pizza shop with NO lighted sineage and a handwritten menu board. The staff was friendly, New York friendly, so if you are from outside of the tri-state area, suck it up, Buttercup. Dh got a Sicilian and a slice. I opted for the Hawaiian. (YES, PINEAPPLES BELONG ON PIZZA!) Husband loved his pizza and is raving on his yelp as I type this. Personally, I've had better Hawaiian, but what I did love was the quality of the crust. The pizza crust was firm without being too hard to execute a proper New York pizza fold. It also held its form and didn't flop (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially with a piping hot cheese pizza) The pineapple on this slice was obviously canned, and it wasn't grill charred like you can do with fresh pineapple slices. Because of dh, I know we will be back, so I'll try a basic traditional pepperoni or plain cheese slice and try it. I'll give it 3 because Hawaiian pizza isn't as easy to pull off, but the crust was good, and it tasted good if you don't know what a Hawaiian is supposed to taste like.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I have been on the hunt for the best pizza in NYC for a couple months now. We've been to Soho. We've been to East Village. But did I ever expect to (potentially) find NYC's best slice in Tribeca?? The food: y'all the pizza is AMAZING. As with many places in NYC, you pick what you want from the counter and it gets toasted fresh in a matter of minutes. We decided to get a slice of the bacon pepperoni pizza to split, and it was revolutionary. The cheese pull was divine. The crust was CRISPY. They didn't skimp on the meat, and there was more than enough bacon and pepperoni to go around. Everything about this pizza just made sense. The only way I can describe it is like the best pizza dream you've ever had come to life. The atmosphere: this is the type of hole-in-the-wall place where you *know* the food is going to be good. There's a single table and chair inside, in case you want to sit down (but most people take their slices to go). There's some garlic and red pepper flakes on the side too, in a little self-serve station by the door. TLDR: If you're in Tribeca, Il Mattone is a must visit. This pizza joint is truly a gem, and one of the best kept secrets in NYC.

Yelp
This place really hits the spot! It is real small but has amazing food. Came here to get some lasagna and it was delicious. Friend got the lobster ravioli and said it was good too. I would like to come back to try the pizza. Everything is very reasonably priced.
google avatar

Yelp
No frills, old school pizza and calzones joint. The staff is efficient and friendly and the food comes out hot and delicious. Try some of the specials and you won't be disappointed.
google avatar

James W.

Yelp
Small intimate, old style pizza joint. Limited seating is available on the outside of the restaurant. Courteous staff. They make sure you have everything you need before leaving. I ordered a regular slice and a slice of Sicilian. They offer the standard selection of drinks, Coke, Pepsi, Root Beer, etc. The pizza was delicious, consisting of the right balance of sauce and cheese. The crust wasn't greasy or floppy. I definitely will return.
google avatar

Yelp
A literal hole in the wall you might miss with all of the scaffolding. Today I was craving an old school ny slice for lunch and il mattone hit the spot. Some tips: if you use credit there's a 4 percent surcharge. A slice is $3 cash. There's literally one chair and one table if you plan to eat there. They offer $10 and $14 lunch specials which in Tribeca is quite the deal. I'll be back.

Yelp
The next day we ordered a pie with a grubhub delivery. First off they delivered it way quicker than I could have walked there and back. Next, it was nice and hot. Well worth whatever it cost. The pizza itself was awesome. Tons of cheese, sauce and sausage. They did a nice job on the pizza. I highly recommend this pizza shop. Very consistent. Good yesterday and good today.

Yelp
Looks closed from the outside, but it's a lie! It's actually open !!! Yummy pizza, highly recommend!

Yelp
Great food, especially the vodka sauce pizza! My new favorite quick Italian spot in the city

Yelp
Are you looking for NY pizza? Your search is over. This place is amazing! I've been eating NY pizza my whole life and this is exactly what my mima brings home when ever I fly back to NY. I was here for a week and ate here 4 times. I went to other places but nothing satisfied the way this does. The owner or main person reminds me exactly of my uncle. I'll probably be making one last stop before the airport tomorrow! Highly recommend. Also, side note free delivery! I ordered to my hotel after a long day of work and my order was at my door no more than 10 mins later
google avatar

Amy S.

Yelp
Great little hole in the wall unassuming pizza joint for a classic NY slice. Totally worth the trek to TriBeCa. The crust and sauce are perfection. The staff was friendly. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite pizza place in NYC. Try the pepperoni & jalapeño slice - you won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Jiwon C.

Yelp
I love my neighborhood pizza spot but when I needed them most they let me down!! I had 6 hungry boys for my sons birthday party and they were 45 minutes late for a party where I had to transport them to the movies. Maybe it was seamless maybe it was their staffing but either at I was panicked with hungry kids circling me with dagger eyes.

Yelp
This was the first place my friends and I ate when visiting NYC for the first time. We wanted true New York style pizza and so yelping was obviously our go-to. We saw II Mattone and one other place that looked up our alley but the reviews and price here were just better. At first, when we pulled up, we were a bit confused because the inside was smaller than we imagined but we decided to go in anyway. Truly, we were not disappointed. You pick your slices and then they put it in the oven and serve it to you on paper plates. Nothing fancy here. We ate in the shop, as it was only us, but it got busy after we started eating. I ordered a white pizza slice with fresh ricotta on it, pepperoni and the square pizza. Oh. Man. It was SO heavenly. Each piece was cooked perfectly. The crust was crunchy and the cheese was cheesy. The flavors were all there. I honestly don't even know any other way to describe it but.. this was the best pizza I have ever had. I still think about it and I CANNOT wait to go back. PLEASE visit here. Inexpensive, delicious and the guys who work there are really nice.

Yelp
Excellent pizza by the slice or a whole pie if you want it, in Tribeca area. Went twice during my last stay in NYC. Would go back. Cheese or Pepperoni won't steer you wrong.

Yelp
Realistically 4.5 stars but rounding up because of the price and the fact that delivery is so reliable from this spot. I've ordered a bunch of times to the office and have been very pleased with my order every time - first of all, I'm no stranger to Seamless orders so I always appreciate the nuts and bolts of delivery (i.e. consistently confirms order quickly, delivers within or close-to-within the quoted amount of time, food isn't an absolute disastrous mess when it arrives) and this place checks every box. Furthermore, the price is more than right - pizzas, even with toppings, are super cheap, and can be split between a couple people. Onto the food - for the most part, phenomenal. I've gotten the calzones a few times and they're massive, filling, and delicious, with ample sauce on the side and a nice blend of cheese. The pizza is always delivered piping hot and is a good size for a small. My one and only big complaint is that this spot does NOT do barbecue chicken well, which is probably my all-time favorite pizza topping: they do a weird mix of barbecue sauce and red sauce that I don't like at all. Besides the barbecue chicken, however, I've been really happy with everything I've ordered. All in all, will definitely order again. One of my favorite, if not my favorite, spots on Seamless for pizza. Definitely want to try the pasta dishes at some point as well.

Yelp
You would have no idea it's there and that's the reason I love this place . Somehow in this small corner they have for a kitchen they are cranking out some quality pies

Anthony A.

Yelp
Don't order on seamless! Food doesn't come after restaurant confirms order and they don't answer the phone. Waited an hour and a half and never received the order.
google avatar

Jack M.

Yelp
This was a really excellent slice of pie. The cheese was oily, garlicky, and had just enough balance to bring in some freshness. The ingredients all tasted very high-quality and packed a very strong flavor punch. The crust was soft and chewy and played up the flavors of the cheese and sauce very well.
google avatar

Matthew M.

Yelp
The food is always cold . It's like they don't care about warming up your pizza. If I had a oven this would be a 2 star review because then I could actually warm my own pizza up. The service is okay, some people are nice but one guy made a comment to another about my weight and I heard it. Finally the ambience is awful and I'm pretty sure they are breaking some codes since they are just leaving cold pizza all day on a rack and using their hands to put it on your plate and then not even warm it for you without gloves
google avatar

Julie Ying X.

Yelp
I came here for dinner after work on a Wednesday since I was in the Tribeca area and there were not many options. The place was pretty small and there was limited seating, like 2 small tables really. I ordered two cheese slices to go since the place was crowded. The pizza was made well. The slices were hot and fresh. It had a flavorful sauce and a lot of cheese. There was a good chew to the crispy crust. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They take credit cards, no minimum which was great. I would come back to try their other pizzas if I'm ever in the area.
google avatar

Nihar K.

Yelp
My friends and I were passing around in this area and smelled great pizza! Even though we were not hungry, we had to try it out!! Pros: 1. Great pizza!! The cheese slice is pretty good; the right amount of sauce and the right amount of cheese. We asked for the pizza to be well done and it was perfect- neither burned nor too soggy! 2. Tried the chicken roll as well (since the name sounded interesting). Turned out to be pretty tasty! Was kind of a calzone filled with mozzarella and chicken and little marina sauce. 3. Accepts credit cards! (important since most slice pizza places in the city don't accept cards) Cons: 1. Very little space to sit. I think they only have 2 tables with 4 chairs per table. No place/bench to sit outside either. 2. The place is kinda small, so it can get crowded quickly.
google avatar

Emily C.

Yelp
I was craving some Italian food and opted for this spot because their prices are pretty reasonable. I got the chicken parm with a side of rigatoni pasta in vodka sauce, mozzarella sticks, and a side of broccoli rabe. The chicken parm and pasta was a good portion for a meal. The chicken wasn't too juicy and the breading wasnt crispy anymore but it was covered in sauce and the cheese was melted well on top. The rigatoni was a bit too thick but it was still pretty good with the vodka sauce. The mozzarella sticks weren't as good as I had hoped since it lacked that cheese pull. The sautéed broccoli rabe was pretty salty and cooked with lots of garlic but they do give a good portion. I also tried their garlic knots which were pretty good. Overall, pretty good Italian food and would order from here again.

Yelp
I was in NY for work and was aimlessly wandering around the TriBeCa neighborhood when I came across this place. It's a small little joint but I was greeted with a warm welcome. I was that obnoxious new customer who wanted to read everything in their overhead menu before deciding on something basic, but they were very friendly and patient with me. There were many different pizzas on display and they even offered cauliflower crust pizza, but since I had pizza the night before, I opted for the meat lasagna instead. I was served a huge portion of lasagna along with some nice toasty bread. Let me just say, I definitely didn't leave hungry (I couldn't even finish my food). What I loved most was seeing the woman (I think the owner?) interact with the other patrons. Customers made sure to personally say hello and goodbye to her, she asked her regulars who they and their families were doing, and she even sat down with another customer to chit chat with him when there was a short break in the line. This place is ran by good, honest people serving their community. Seeing how the owner interacted with the patrons will definitely bring me back here when I'm back in town.

Yelp
Got the penne with vodka sauce. Small portion, but granted given that it's the lunch special for $10. Ordered through the app Ritual and was able to pick up the order in a timely manner. Been coming here for a variety of menu items, but the penne vodka has always been a favorite among myself and my co-workers. Good place if you want authentic Italian food. Feels always like a hustle and bustle place given the small restaurant size and crowds during rush hour.
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
I love NY pizza! This place will renew your faith in what it means to be a slice of pizza in the city. There's no place to sit at II Mattone, it's just a grab & go place. I stopped in, ordered a couple slices and left. No fan fair, no ambiance, no special services. Just GREAT pizza at a good price. Exactly as it should be... Whenever I'm in NYC, I sample as many pizza joints as possible. The prices are all over the place and some places have lost their love of pizza and it shows. This place stay true to the pizza!

Gina J.

Yelp
I was very excited to try this pizza based off of the reviews, but was majorly disappointed. I'll give 2 stars solely because the dough was fresh and tasty, but the rest of the pizza wasn't good. We got a large pepperoni pizza and ate it fresh in front of the store. The cheese didn't have much pull and the sauce was forgettable. I only had 1 slice because I couldn't bear to eat another.
google avatar

Aileen M.

Yelp
Picked up lunch from here in late December and was very pleased. Order: gluten free margherita pizza with hot sausage, sun dried tomatoes, and spinach. As a celiac my #1 question is whether the food is truly gluten free - in my experience here it was. I was impressed by the quantity added for each topping and thought it was a terrific deal for the price - in any location, but especially in NYC. Will certainly come again next time I'm in town!
google avatar

Marissa S.

Yelp
The storefront is small and you may even miss it walking by the first time, but the slices are legit. The vodka and white slices were quite good and the grandma slice had something about it... dare I say anchovies? Regardless it reminded me of my grandmas pasta sauce and that's enough to keep me coming back. Thanks Il Mattone!

Miranda J.

Yelp
BEST PIZZA IN TOWN. Worth making the trip over even if you don't live super close. Family owned with positive vibes every time I go.
google avatar

Ming M.

Yelp
Admittedly, I never went into this place until I got Mealpal because it just looked like a nondescript pizzeria from the outside while I was on my way to pick up my salad from Sweet Green. However, they offered some delicious looking pasta on Mealpal, so I ordered it. Very delicious and good size portions, unlike some other stingy restaurants on Mealpal. They also have some decent lunch specials for $10 and $13, so I will be coming back. I like to have a choice when it comes to lunch.
google avatar

Pj M.

Yelp
Decent pizza. It's a tiny space and the owner doesn't wear a mask - didn't wear one before vaccines either... if that thing matters to you (I think it should)
google avatar

Lajja M.

Yelp
This place is a gem. This pizza place is far better then the famous pizza places in the city. Super amazing pizza slice with an amazing crust. Pros : crust of the pizza is just too good : perfect amount of sauce which makes pizza just so delicious.(hungry already) Cons: very small place with the sitting of hardly 4-5 people.
google avatar

Tony L.

Yelp
I've had pizza several times here, as I work around the corner. The pizza is pretty solid.. service is always fast. I've also had a chicken pa rm here, and that was amongst the best I've ever had...

Steve B.

Yelp
Ordered delivery and got a great pizza! Can't wait to order again. Crust was amazing!
google avatar

Yelp
Definitely a must stop by! Great service, great food, great price, and a great quick meal. I got a margherita slice, cheese slice, garlic knots, nutella calzone, and cannolis and all were fantastic.
google avatar

Jeff L.

Yelp
Fantastic pizza! I had the grandma slice and they add fresh basil olive oil and grated Parmesan.very friendly staff. Definitely coming back!!

Bhird M.

Yelp
Food was delicious, a quick walk from where we stayed. The sandwich with mozzarella, chicken, spinach and pesto was amazing. Toasted perfectly. The plain pizza was good, sandwich stole the show.

Maura C.

Yelp
Small storefront, unassuming Pizza shop...Pizza how we love - crust and sauce crunchy and smooth...Ordered Catering and the Chicken Parm, Rigatoni and Shrimp were all mouth watering. Friendly and reliable...glad they are close by!

Chris B.

Yelp
Ok pizza, nothing special. Looked like it was sitting out for a little while. Obviously better than most pizza in the US because it's from NYC
google avatar

Austin S.

Yelp
I usually get the penne vodka pasta and I love it. Today I used mealpal for lunch and got a chicken parmesan sandwich and it was quite good for mealpal. It's usually pretty quick (under 10 minutes). Overall, Il Mattone is a great lunch spot and I recommend it. They have multiple lunch specials each day for 10 dollars.

Yelp
The reviews did not disappoint! We wanted our New York Pie! We walked over a mile that morning to stand in line just to get our slice on. And we were so glad we did! The people lined up to order in the crowded space, and they shuffle around while they wait for their slice selections to be heated in the oven- most take their food (lots of pastas on the menu as well) but we sat at one of the tables. SO GOOD!!!!! Crisp, thin,, not greasy, not overloaded, just perfect.

P R.

Yelp
Writing this for management to see so they can correct this issue. We really like this place and order from here every week. We got a pizza yesterday - 2.12.21 and maybe for the second time it was quite subpar. worst I have ever had in NY. 1) dough was not cooked through 2) sauce was not sweet 3) ingredients were thrown on it randomly - one slice would have 5 pepperonis and another only 2 4) spots were missing sauce and other spots were missing cheese It felt like a new chef in training was working last night. Please fix so we can continue coming back and ordering from you. Thank you
google avatar

Lucy M.

Yelp
Finding good pizza in Tribeca is a difficult task, and Mattone fills that void.  It's affordable and the toppings are fresh and delicious- no called mushrooms here! Their crust is thin and crispy but also denser then most. Sauce is a little on the sweet side, and the vodka sauce slice is solid. They also have a board with $10 and $13 lunch specials with everything from salads to pasta to heroes. Service is courteous. Now the place is small. If you want to eat there plan on sharing one of 8 seats at 2 tables trying to not make eye contact with a complete stranger while you stuff your face.
google avatar

Jillian J.

Yelp
What a wonderful surprise. Il Mattone pizza is fantastic- their crust is what dreams are made of. The sauce needs a little tweaking- and if they did my fiancé said would be "the best pizza". Doing the pizza gods work there. *we both are from the tri-state area so we KNOW
