"Founded in 1984, this family-run establishment located close to the Staatstheater (hence the name) is now run by the second generation, with Daniele di Sario taking the helm several years ago. He delivers classic Italian and French-style cuisine that is in keeping with the zeitgeist: The spaghetti carbonara, turbot with Champagne sauce or lemon dessert ("Kreation von der Zitrone") are shining examples. In keeping with the name of the restaurant, the menu is divided into different sections: Act 1, Intermezzo, Act 2 and Epilogue. Veteran chef Giovanni likes to get in on the action front of house, joining forces with the enthusiastic and attentive service team. In summer, the terrace seating out on the wide pavement is especially appealing." - Michelin Inspector

Il Teatro2 in Karlsruhe offers a polished and comfortable dining experience with notably excellent service. The food while not bad at all, isn’t necessary noteworthy either. From the moment you arrive, the staff are attentive, professional, and genuinely welcoming, which immediately sets a positive tone for the evening. The restaurant itself feels refined and calm, making it suitable for a relaxed dinner or a special occasion without feeling overly formal. I opted for the 40th anniversary four-course menu with the wine pairing. The overall experience was pleasant, and everything was executed correctly, but most dishes felt more “not bad” than actually memorable. The clear standout of the menu was the tuna tartare, which was fresh, well-balanced, and the most expressive dish of the evening. The remaining courses were fine and enjoyable, yet none left a lasting impression in terms of creativity or depth of flavor. In fact, the carbonara was too salty for both of us, and the pumpkin soup still included mushrooms even though we asked for it to come without them. The wine pairing complemented the menu well and was thoughtfully selected, adding value to the experience if you enjoy tasting alongside your meal. Portions were appropriate for a multi-course dinner, leaving you satisfied without feeling overly full. Overall, Il Teatro2 is a decent choice if you value excellent service, a calm atmosphere, and well-prepared food. It may not be the place you rush back to for culinary surprises, but it delivers a dependable and pleasant fine-dining experience, especially for those celebrating a milestone or looking for a somewhat refined evening out.

I celebrated my birthday at Il Teatro² and had a really lovely evening. The atmosphere was great, the food was delicious, and the tiramisu was served in a very creative way. I especially appreciate the chef for preparing a birthday cake — it was a thoughtful touch. I’d be happy to come back here for future special occasions.

Very good experience, with attentive staff and very nice food. The food presentation is appealing and modern with a certain old-school flair. The portions are just the right size. Location is great, just in front of the Stadttheater, and has recently been blessed with a large improvement on public transport connections. Worth the visit!

Well worth the money spent. They are not the cheapest Italian restaurant but the quality and portion sizes were great. The servers were friendly and the service was fast and efficient. They have been nominated for a Michelin star so it says something. The wine selection was great.

The place is beautiful, as well as the presentation of the dishes. The service is good and friendly. But the food was at most average. I have ordered shrimps with octopus, and I have hardly managed to finish my dish. The shrimp was over cooked and didn’t feel fresh, the octopus was falling to piece in my mouth which is a new experience for me after eating these for years. The pasta itself was not very tasty either. Bottom line, the price was that of a fine restaurant but this dish was definitely not.

Wonderful food and great service. I thoroughly enjoyed everything. I had the Polpo, Aglio e Romana, which was excellent, and the Rombo al Champagne Filet as the main course. I highly recommend everything.

Yelp
