The Best New Year’s Eve Restaurants in NYC | Eater NY

"If you love classic, old-school Italian, this is one of the best places to celebrate. Where to Eat on Thanksgiving in NYC

"Not everyone wants a prix fixe for the holiday. For diners who would rather not commit to a large meal, or families with young children who prefer pasta to turkey, this ristorante in Midtown is a good option.  In addition to the turkey and sweet potato holiday special, there is a menu with every classic including tableside Caesar salad, ravioli with veal and spinach, double cut veal chops and zuppa di pesce. Banana flambe is a festive finish." - Beth Landman, Eater Staff

Google
An excellent Italian restaurant. I ordered my usual pasta carbonara, and they nailed it. On a Monday night in June it was very busy for dinner. Thats a good sign. Also seemed to be a local crowd. Also a good sign. The service was a charm. Old-world, super professional with tight attention to detail. I was solo and they treated me well. They gave me an after dinner liquor on the house. No idea why, but that little touch. It's nice. And I am writing about it now, and you are reading it. Maybe you get the same warm welcome. Good luck, enjoy!

On our recent trip to NYC we had the extreme pleasure of dining at Il Tinello East for the first time. It was an exceptional dining experience in every way! Upon entering the restaurant, we were warmly greeted by Benny and quickly escorted us to our table. Our waiter then came to the table and explained the menu and evening specials along with taking our drinks order. The service at Il Tinello is old-world and first-class. Professional waiters dressed in black tie who really know their job and the food and wine on the menu. Our party of three ordered various appetizers and main dishes from pasta to fish to meat. All were brilliantly executed and so very tasty! We chose a fine bottle of wine and the server decanted the bottle with great flair. We ended our meal with desserts and a lovely glass of Porto. It has been ages since we have had such fine Italian cuisine served in such a luxurious setting with exceptional service. Il Tinello, Benny, and the entire staff are a rare experience in today's restaurant world. We can't wait to return. It truly was the highlight of our NYC trip. Thank you, Benny, and all for treating us so royally! We hope to see you again soon!

We were visiting from out of town to celebrate a birthday. We all ordered something different (branzino, mushroom risotto, shrimp scampi, chicken scarpariello) and it’s impossible to decide which one was the best. Everyone was attentive and they made us feel like family. Whether you are local, here on business, or celebrating a special occasion, I can’t recommend Il Tinello enough. It’s at the top of our list for our next visit. You will not be disappointed.

I wish I could give it more stars. Visited here from Texas and the food here is amazing. Drinks too. The staff is amazing and very attentive.

Google
- Food was served very quickly - I got Larry’s Pasta. It was a spicy penne vodka with Chicken and green peas and it was delicious - Calming environment - Friendly staff - Give you bread and shishito peppers when you walk in - Give you a nice pastry after you finish your meal

On our recent trip to NYC, we stumbled upon this hidden gem for dinner. Arta was our server and provided excellent service, and the food we ate was amazing. We had the Burrata with mangoes, a fresh salad with arugula, pears, fresh pecorino cheese in a light lemon vinaigrette, and Cacio e Pepe made tableside. It was such a great dining experience that we returned on our last night in the city to enjoy another fantastic meal. Ray, Ben, and Angelo managed the dining area service and were fantastic. Highly recommend Il Tinello for a 5-star dining experience!

Google
Amazing Italian Restaurant I found by chance. My husband & I were looking for a nice restaurant close to Grand Central to meet our friends. From the moment we arrived Benny G Bello(the owner) welcomed us so sincerely as if we were in his home. Angelo(our server ) was also so warm & welcoming. With the service being outstanding.....so was the menu. We had baked clams.....veal parm-risotto -scallops & delicious pasta ......all of them OUTSTANDING. Our friends had some dietary restrictions & IL TINELLO EAST handled them with much care. The four of us will definitely meet here again......do not miss trying this wonderful restaurant....you will not be disappointed

Yelp
When dining out, it's often the little things that elevate a meal from good to exceptional. At IL Tinello, I recently experienced just that - an evening where both the ambiance, food and customer service far surpassed my and wife's expectations. From the moment we walked through the door, we were greeted with warm smiles and an inviting atmosphere. The proprietor and host Benny Bello promptly seated us at a cozy table, setting the tone for an intimate and relaxed dining experience. The menu was a delightful read, filled with a variety of Italiano options that catered to diverse tastes. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive, offering insightful recommendations without being overbearing. It was clear that the staff was well-trained and genuinely cared about enhancing our dining experience. To start, we had great options for drinks and appetizers, which arrived promptly and beautifully presented. The flavors were vibrant and perfectly balanced, leaving us eager for the next course. For the main course, both dishes were cooked to perfection, with fresh ingredients and a masterful blend of spices that highlighted the chef's culinary expertise. What truly set this experience apart was the level of customer service. Our server checked in just the right amount, ensuring our drinks were refilled and our needs met without ever feeling intrusive. When we mentioned how much we enjoyed the meal, the owner/Benny came over to thank us personally and that was the perfect end to an outstanding meal. It's rare to find a restaurant that excels in both its food and service, but IL Tinello manages to do so effortlessly. Whether you're looking for a place to celebrate a special occasion or simply enjoy a wonderful meal, this is the place to go. I can't wait to return and explore more of their delicious menu. Yelp
Not only the best food, but the most immaculate service I have ever received. I have repeatedly had the best experience at this restaurant I have ever received.

Seema ..

Yelp
Delightful old school Italian with exceptional service and charm. I had the table side Cacio e Pepe that was personally prepared with love by the owner Benny Bello - theatrical, decadent and delicious!

Yelp
Was in the mood for some pasta and a good veal parmigiana. Read the great reviews of this restaurant and placed an order to be delivered. The food was delivered at the time promised by a very nice delivery person. The food arrived in excellent condition, was hot and exceeded my expectations. The veal parmigiana was perfectly fried, tender and topped with a good amount of quality mozzarella. It was accompanied by some sautéed potatoes and haricot vert. The entire dish was perfectly seasoned and delicious. One of the best veal Parms I've had in a long time. The portion size was fair for the price point. 5/5 for the veal parm. I ordered the Bucatini Amatriciana. The sauce was made from fresh tomatoes, pancetta and onions. The pasta was perfectly al dente and delicious. The portion size was very fair for the price point. 5/5 for the bucatini. The order came with bread, crostini (tomato), shishito peppers and grated Parmesan cheese. Overall an excellent delivery experience. I'm looking forward to eating at the restaurant.

Yelp
At my friend's request for a long overdue catch up at an Italian restaurant, I recommend that we visit Il Tinello since it was on my to visit list. I made a reservation on the website, arrived at exactly 6:30pm, was well greeted and quickly sat down at our table. Within few minutes the waiter was at the table taking our drink order and brought us fresh bread, on the house a portion of bruschetta and a plate of marinated eggplant & hot peppers. The place is quaint, modern, clean and fairly classic Italian decor. The atmosphere was quiet which was nice to talk but it did get lost as the night went on (almost too loud). My friend & I decided to share everything because we wanted the table made cacio e pepe pasta but also protein which we ended deciding on veal parm. The atmosphere was vibrant and we just enjoyed our conversation as we watch the waiter prepare our pasta then served us. I would admit that it is not your typical cacio e pepe, it has a lot more ingredients and richer than your typical version, but very tasty and creamy. The veal parm was up to the standard! Very tender and light. I do confess that I had to add salt and ask for black pepper to add more flavor. All in all, a very delightful and delicious experience. Definitely would go back!

Yelp
I stopped in this quaint place on a business trip. Jenny greeted me with a smile and I sat at the bar with Atra, the bartender. Atra was so kind and friendly to me as a lone female diner in a mostly male environment. I was taken really good care of by the waiter who suggested he choose my meal for me, which I agreed to and was not disappointed. The manager came over with a big smile and to check on me. He was very friendly and handsome! Stated with a soup and then had chicken scallopine with hard boiled eggs on top. The gravy was delicious!. Very tasty. Ended with the cheesecake.

Yelp
The best food, the best drinks, the best atmosphere, people are super friendly, Benny is the best guy you can ask , thank you again Benny for everything, see you soon !!!!

Yelp
Date night...celebration night...family time...ANYtime. A magnificent dinner with Old-World service and attentiveness. A lost art and Il Tinello has it in spades. Benny is the BEST maitre-d. Warm, engaging, social and generous. We were checked in and seated immediately. The cocktails we ordered were perfectly made and generous. A Manhattan and a Bombay Sapphire martini-dry - up with olives. The Manhattan was served with Luxardo cherries. Yum. The complimentary bruschetta and peppers were house made and a great treat. We started with the burrata antipasti special. So fresh and beautifully plated. The roasted pineapple was fantastic with the cheese. I ordered the ravioli stuffed with veal and spinach and herbs. The handmade pasta was whisper-thin and delicate. The sauce was expertly made, subtle and sumptuous. Complex and elusive reminiscent of European fine dining. My husband had the rigatoni stuffed with lobster. The rigatoni was handmade also. Each rigatoni stuffing had a tablespoon of lobster which was so fresh and sweet. Lobster essence was in the sauce which was exquisite. These are not "ginormous " rigatoni but balanced and bite-sized. Sauce napped the rigatoni. The homemade cannoli were the best. We scarfed them down even though we could hardly eat another bite. Irresistible! We both had an espresso and it was classic. Benny came by to offer us a limoncello which is fragrant, tart, slightly bitter but not too sweet. House made! I want those lemons. We finished with a house made grappa which was the best ever. I am returning with my whole family next time. The joyful table of eight near us spanned several generations and is a testament to what a treasure Il Tinello-East is.

Yelp
Absolute neighborhood gem. Service is always on point and the food is fresh and traditional. Lights are dimmed perfectly for an ambiant night out. My favorite are the penne pomodoro, veal parmagiana is a must, and the clams casino are a 10/10.

Yelp
Our first night in town, we arrived late and were looking for Italian in Midtown. Found this place online and took a chance. To our surprise, it was great. Wonderful food, terrific service and a cozy sophisticated ambiance on a rainy night. Very few customers so it's hard to see how this place survives, but if it does we'll be back. Highly recommended.

Yelp
We had just arrived in t)he city and were starving. Saw all the great reviews so decided to come here. When arriving we were warmly greeted by Benny! Our waiter (sorry forgot his name) came immediately and gave recommendations , and was just very friendly. A lady at another table was just leaving , but she said this was her favorite place and that she had lived in NY all her life. He gave us some bread and this delicious vegetable spread. We took our waiter's suggestion o ordering burrata with grilled pineapple, sole prepared tableside and black ink seafood pasta. All were delicious. That was the best burrata we've ever had- creamy, slight salty flavor. The melt in your mouth sole was prepared tableside, ie expertl6 deboned, filleted, head and tail removed. Black ink seafood pasta was also dente, with a lemony touch. My husband and I took turns tasting each other' food. Expert Service continued throughout. Portions were large so we couldn't finish it But somehow we had room for Tartuffe pistachio ice cream anyway. You know we have a separate dessert stomach right? Hubby had doppio espresso too. As a finishing touch Benny gave us a couple of glasses of Grappa. Whoo that was smooth & strong. All in all , best service I've ever had - combination of grace, warmth and expertise. Never intrusive, but predicted our needs. What a great welcome to the city!!

Yelp
The service and attention to deal is incredible. Amazing table side preparations on some dishes so please ask the waiter. Great value and great for special occasions. This is our second year in a row having our anniversary dinner there and will make it a 3-peat

Yelp
Love coming here...this is definitely one of my favorite Italian places in NY. It is pricey, but the service is old world NY Italian high end restaurant and the wine list is super. It is pricey... Nice little bar area as you walk in gives a nice ambiance to the place and then the restaurant with the white tablecloths brings it home. The appetizer table is usually a hit, but i prefer the set disches off the menu. Exceptional calamari and tomato caprese salad. Oils and balsamic are high end and high quality Entrees are usually the fish... The lamb is always great as are the meats. I highly recommend this place!

Yelp
A few times a year, I visit my sister in NYC, and the two of us love to explore food/restaurant experiences together. On this occasion, my sister had to work most of the day but was able to meet me for lunch near her office. She did a quick Yelp search and found Il Tinello to be one of the closest restaurants to her office, but she had never heard of it before. Still, she was intrigued by the extremely high rating (4.9 at time of writing, with 58 reviews). She asked her coworkers if they had been there, but none of them had, nor had they heard of it. Regardless, we opted to give it a shot, because you don't see restaurants rated this highly (with over 50 reviews) very often. Too good to be true? We were about to find out! I arrived early and waited in the bar area for my sister to meet me. There were two gentlemen patrons at the bar, and I watched their food arrive--which looked really good. I asked them what they had ordered and they started raving about the cacio e pepe, and the catfish tacos. I took note of these recommendations, and soon after my sister arrived. We were promptly seated in the dining room. The entire experience was flawless. The restaurant was busy, but our server, out of the corner of his eye, noticed anytime I needed anything during our meal. We ordered the cacio e pepe (made tableside--must try/see!) and the lamb osso buco with saffron risotto--one of the specials of the day. Both of these dishes were absolutely astounding and had so much depth of flavor. The lamb, in particular was moist and juicy but still fell off the bone perfectly. We did not have time for dessert because my sister had to get back to the office, but next time we will definitely plan ahead for it. On our way out, we met the manager Benny, who was so kind and gracious. We learned this is a newer, second location for a family's longtime esatblishment/original location on W 56th, and Benny has been working tirelessly to make this new location as good, if not better, then the original. I plan to return here on all my subsequent visits to NYC. This place is the real deal, and you are guaranteed to have an amazing experience. I'm still thinking about this place, two weeks later. Can't wait to return.

Yelp
Discovered what is going to be a great neighborhood gem serving classic Italian cuisine with on point service and great cocktails in A cozy environment. I really enjoyed the food and the focus Of the service on getting the simple things right - as I entered the restaurant a couple walking out stopped to tell myself and my fellow diner how good the food was - as well as the martini's mixed by AJ. Well the food did not disappoint - the spaghetti carbonara recommended by the departing guests was quite excellent, as were the other dishes. Great work!

Joseph B.

Yelp
The food is honestly some of the best Ive ever had, but even better then the food is the staff. Everyone couldnt be more personable, hospitable, kind and caring. They make you feel like family when you're there. This is a must visit if you're in the NYC area
google avatar

Charlie B.

Yelp
A lot of fancy restaurants make a big show of good manners and formality, but it's just to impress you. So I was a bit skeptical. But at Il Tinello it became clear that their elegant hospitality is genuine and motivated by their desire to serve you. We just wanted a small late-night bite, as we'd had a late lunch, and Tinello was close by. We asked as we walked in if that was OK. They were very gracious --although it's clearly not a casual dining place-- brought delicious roasted vegetables and bruschetta to munch on as we ordered. My husband had a superb glass of rose with our very light apps and a side. To finish they surprised us with a complimentary glass of grappa! We will def be back.

Yelp
Wow! What an amazing meal! The only thing that might be better than the food is the attentiveness and welcoming of the entire staff. We had amazing veal, fish and pasta but everything that came out of the kitchen looked amazing. Its a hidden treasure with a wonderful atmosphere. Run, don't walk to Il Tinello and Bennie and his team will make sure you have an incredible evening.

Yelp
Went here for dinner on the recommendation of my boss, and was extremely impressed with both the food and the quality of service. Demetria behind the bar was wonderful, was super sociable and lovely to talk to, and made sure I had everything I needed throughout my dining experience. She's great at her job, and you can tell the regulars also love her. I got to meet a few of them, including the hilarious Greg - whose photo is up on the wall. If you go there and meet Greg, please ask him about his photo! He loves it! The calamari was among some of the best I've ever had, and the chicken martini entree was melt in your mouth delicious. I will most certainly come back here whenever I'm in town!
google avatar

Yelp
IL TINELLO EAST is a classic midtown Manhattan Ristorante with a retro vibe. Frank Sinatra and his Rat Pack would love this hidden treasure. Upon arriving, we immediately received a warm welcome from the owner, Benny, and hostess, Denetria. While listening to soft standards music in the background; we enjoyed a well-crafted martini and a lovely Prosecco poured by Miss Mixologist, Arta. We recommend guests stop by the cozy bar for a leisurely cocktail before dinner and or a dessert after dining. Flaming Bananas Foster with strawberries tuck in if it's your choice, is served tableside. Benny really delivered this show-stopping dessert. The lasagna (when available) and shrimp scampi was full of favor ... noodles were the perfect texture. A pleasant culinary experience. They offered a complimentary cordial, Grappa, after our dining experience. That makes the Ristorante extra special besides the congenial and efficient wait-staff. Don't miss the authentic Italiano cuisine professionally provided by IL Tinello East. Buon Appetito! We'll joyfully return to our new Italiano Famiglia in September 2024. "Mama Bear" and Reggie. Three Visits in October 2023

Yelp
This is an old school Italian restaurant with fantastic service, excellent food and generous portions, all for very reasonable prices. They start with complimentary appetizers that would typically cost $10-$15 at most NYC restaurants. Every dish I have tried at the restaurant so far has been the best of its kind I tried in years, from melt in your mouth osso buco to buttery prosciutto to linguine alle vongole. The wonderful dishes are all wrapped with equally impressive service. My server, Ray, was particularly attentive and knowledgeable. The manager, the nephew of the owner of the 40 years old sister restaurant on the west side, came by to thank me for coming. And I am just an average Joe who works in the neighborhood and stopped by for dinner. This is my new go-to Italian restaurant in Manhattan.

Yelp
Ok, so went back to Il Tinello tonight. Of course, Benny The Man was there and greeted me with a firm handshake and a hug. I wasn't with my beautiful wife tonight, I was there with some former colleagues. We started with Fried Calamari and Lamb lollipops with broccoli rabe. The lamb was so ridiculously tender. The calamari, which I've had at so many different places over the years, was by far the best I've ever had. Perfectly cooked, perfect amount of breading. As always, the restaurant is beautiful, the staff is attentive, Benny, as I've said, is THE MAN, so what I'm saying is it was another outstanding meal at Il Tinello. Next time, I have to bring my wife back there.

John D.

Yelp
I had the pleasure of eating at IL Tinello East Side tonight with a friend. Benny the owner greeted us as soon as we arrived and made us feel extremely welcomed. The restaurant is really pretty and the food is delicious along with excellent service. Treat yourself to a wonderful meal at IL Tinello East.

Yelp
Il Tinello is one of the finest Italian restaurants in NYC. The service is impressive and impeccable. The ambiance is warm and welcoming especially when you are greeted by the professional staff. I had the Branzino and it was the best I ever had.

Steve K.

Yelp
This review is based on 3 visits. The first two times the food was good, not exceptional just good. Service was fine; what you would expect at a restaurant charging high prices. The third visit was a disaster. They wanted to turn the table and rushed us through the meal at a record pace. Plates of food were taken away WHILE we were eating from them. In a city where fine Italian dining can be found in every neighborhood, I believe this is one to avoid.
google avatar

Ruth Ann H.

Yelp
Everyone on the premises who is on staff is in service, fully attentive to every guest, meeting every need with anticipatory speed. As my husband said, "Even if the food wasn't great, the place is so terrific and everyone is so wonderful and it's just such a high-end New York Italian restaurant where everybody's a pro - BUT THE FOOD IS GREAT! So it's got everything!" The specials were, what else, special. The owner (hi, Benny G Bello) was on the premises ready to do anything to make the customer happy. Sheer delight.
google avatar

Terry D.

Yelp
Hey they gave me some amuse bouches that certainly amused my mouth. A spicy pickled pepper, grilled zucchini and some type of tomato sauce along with a bruschetta and a bread basket; all that before I ordered my meal. I had penne with portobello mushroom and fresh tomato in a garlic butter sauce. Decadent! The service was attentive without being intrusive. After the main plate I was given an almond cookie and a biscotti which were both excellent. So much so I asked if they sold them separately. The waiter said yes, brought me several in a to go box and didn't add them to my bill. The ambience is all dark wood, leather and muted lighting. Typical without being typical. Classic, not stuffy. I would definitely go back.

Joel M.

Yelp
Above & beyond. Food selection was a wonderful assortment. The waiter and proprietor were affable and very accommodating to my friends. Great spot for any occasion. Will be making this place a regular spot. 10/10.

Yelp
Walking inside this East Side establishment instantly made me think of almost any old Italian gangster movie you can think of. It also immediately conjured up thoughts of Frank Sinatra. So right there is the vibe you're gonna work with. But let's get to the food and service. First off, the entire staff is dressed impeccably. White jackets, pressed pants. This is top notch, top tier, fine dining. And every single team member paid us wonderful attention. Kudos to all of them for making it feel like a really wonderful restaurant experience. Now, the food. I'll preface it by saying I went out with a large group and there was a lot of food. The pics posted here are all the plates I was able to take pictures of. There were a lot more I, unfortunately, missed. First off, their carpaccio salad was incredible. Fresh, delicious & the beef was tender and packed with a nice subtle flavor. Great way to start the meal. Their veal parmigiano was incredible. Not only was the size amazing for the price they charge, but it was unbelievably delicious. The tomato sauce was unreal. Their octopus salad is a can't miss. I wish I had more of it, but I had to share it with several people. Pro-tip: order it for yourself and yourself only. The vongole was superb. The little neck clams were on point and the garlic & oil was to die for. So. Damn. Good. And oh man, their ossobuco was absolutely glorious. Tender, fall off the bone meat. Just so fantastically delicious. Last but not least is their filetto pork tenderloin smothered in a balsamic reduction sauce that was absolutely incredible. This was the juiciest piece of pork I've had in a very long time. All in all, this was an incredible dining experience and one I give a wholehearted recommendation to.

Yelp
Walked by this new neighborhood spot but could never get a seat until tonight. AJ greeted me at the bar with a nice martini on a rainy night :). Love the old school music and vibes and looking forward to bringing more family and friends. Benny G Bello and his team are doing a great job!

Yelp
This restaurant accommodated a last-minute reservation for 5 on a Wednesday night. Warm, noisy atmosphere. The porcini risotto and arugula-pear salad was amazing. The branzino was good-not-great. The bread could definitely be upgraded, guys! The lemon sorbetto served in a frozen lemon rind was absolutely delicious. Never had better. The service was just right: the hostess took all our huge winter coats and luggage, and the waitstaff did a great job serving.

Donna C.

Yelp
Exceptional food and service. We took friends and they are hooked on this food. We tried a variety of dishes for appetizers as well as entrees. All were delicious.! Their wine selection is extensive and you can be sure to find the best wine to accompany your dinner selection. Staff is very attentive and professional. Highly recommended!!

Yelp
Dinner with our young son on 1/2/24 was delightful. Ray, our server was wonderful with our energetic son, and he was kind to show him how to twirl the noodles and pull clams from the shells. All the entrees, including Osso Bucco, were delicious!

Yelp
Excellent food. Kind servers. Romantic and dark atmosphere. Very different -- but better -- than the Midtown West location of Il Tinello.

M R.

Yelp
Excellent food, service and ambiance. We came on a very rainy night with flooding, after the the rain and we were lucky to get in but did due to cancellations. We had the sweet and sour Calamari which was very good. We had the mushroom risotto (best we've ever had) and sea bass special (very good but perhaps overpriced). After three glasses of wine, two anisettes and chocolate cake plus espresso the bill was over $300 with tip. This is fine dining without the stuffy attitudes.

Frank S.

Yelp
Great food, great service, love the setting. Hostess and Manager very warm and congenial. Ray was great. Will definitely return.

Thomas B.

Yelp
Excellent service...very professional and attentive. Food and wine selection were excellent and the ambiance was spot on. Intimate feel but not quiet. We had several of the house specialties and all reported excellent flavor and nice portions. Only comment wa the NY cheesecake was not exceptional...small comment as the overall was great.

marion f.

Yelp
I'm rarely near 3rd avenue, but i know have a reason to be when I'm in the mode for great Italian food and service. I started my meal with the calamari, very generous portions, more than enough to share and it was very good, I tend to order calamari at every place that serves it and Il Tinello East's was some of the best I've had. My main was the crab capenilli, again they didn't scrimp on the portions of either the pasta or crab. If your looking for a nice place, with an intimate feel, fast and attentive service near the Eastside, I heartly recommend.

Joanne D.

Yelp
Had dinner here after many years of being away. The service unfortunately seemed to gravitate to business men and not women dining alone. Assuming that the spending wouldn't be the same. Appetizer was uneventful. Farfalle Il Tinello was delicious but everything else fell flat. For the money disappointing. No need to rush back. Clearly catering to a business group on company expense

Yelp
They accommodated a group of 15 for an early dinner before a Broadway show. Benny and his team are the absolute best! The food was sensational, and the service was outstanding. Our entire group was completely satisfied with the experience.

Yelp
This was our second dinner at Il Tinello within two weeks, last time a party of 7 and this time a party of 4. From the moment you walk in the owner, Benny, is there to greet you warmly. He immediately remembered us and where we had been sitting last time! The staff, from the hostess to the servers and busboys are super attentive, but never overbearing. They make us feel both times like close friends who had come for a holiday dinner. The ambience is lovey and intimate, and you can converse easily without competing with noise, as happens in so many other restaurants. All of this would be a "nice to have" if the food didn't deliver. But it does! Everything we had was delicious, including the bruschetta they bring at the start, with a great zing of garlic between the chopped tomato and the toast, and a plate of delicious sauteed mushrooms and spicy sauteed peppers. Standouts were the Uncle Bob's calamari and gorgonzola-stuffed fig appetizers, the scallops, which were among the most perfectly prepared we've ever had, the lump crab with capellini and tomato sauce, and the pollo sorrentino. The ricotta cheesecake dessert was also wonderful. the wine list is delightful- we had a delicious Amerone Valpolicella. This east side version of the west side restaurant is relatively new. It's worth a special trip (we came in from Westchester!)

Yelp
The food was spectacular. The home made pasta was delicious. The chocolate mousse was so flavorful. The waiters were so attentive and kind. The ambience was very classy. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
For me to come on here and write a review takes a lot. Let's start with the service: we were seated right away. The entire staff was inviting and really made you feel at home while maintaining professionalism. They never rushed you out of your seat or to hurry you to place your order. The ambiance: was great. My mom and I went at 7:30pm so it was nice to go into a restaurant that has dim lighting. Not only that it felt very high scale. The food: out of this world. That's all I have to say. New York has the best food in the world. They served real Italian dishes. Not only that, most dishes weren't that badly priced. The quality of the food was great and had left overs. By far one of the best Italian restaurants in NYC in my opinion. Not a tourist trap. This place is a must-try and will deff be back for our next trip.

Yelp
We had such a great experience at this restaurant. I can't recommend it enough! All the staff were friendly and welcoming, particularly the maître d, Benny, (I think) and our bartender, AJ, who, by the way, made excellent cocktails! The coffee martini was a standout as well as the lychee martini! Just the right ambience for dinner and the food was delivered promptly and was delicious ( I had the veal parmigiana, yum!). I've already recommended this place to my friends who are visiting as well as my family who are NY residents. Do yourself a favor and dine here. It's not too often that I write a rave review but Il Tinello East checked all the boxes.

Yelp
We went for a nice dinner, taking the advice of a friend and boy were we impressed! Our dinner was delicious and cooked to perfection. Our waiter gave us great recommendations and were absolutely loved our appetizers, entrees (sea bass) and dessert. The service was incredible, everyone was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The owner stopped by multiple times during our meal. There were more than enough staff working and they were a fine oiled machine. Excellent and bravo, go today!!!! We are only sorry to be back in California, but we are looking forward to our next visit.

Yelp
I've eaten at many five-star restaurants, and a half-dozen or so Michelin star ones. I wholeheartedly recommend Il Tinello, it's superb. While the menu is adventurous and interesting , it is also pleasingly simple. There are nine sections, each with only a few items: Antipasti, Zuppe, Insalate, Pasta, Risotto, Pollo, Carni, Pesce and Legumi. You will not be shocked by most of the offerings, you will have seen these before (though some of them you will have not). I recommend looking at their menu via the link here on Yelp. The important point, though, is that they are all done superbly. The rigatoni with roasted eggplant, fresh tomato, basil, diced buffalo mozzarella is a dish we all know. However, it's also the best version of that dish I've ever had. And so on, for other menu items. Paired with the superb food (and delicious wine list - a whole other topic) are the old-world good manners and sincere commitment to hospitality and generosity of Il Tinello's owner Benny and his captain Ray. Both are deeply experienced, career restaurant professionals and this is clearly a labor of love for them. It is clear to me from my several visits that they have a deeply devoted, local customer base, but I have spoken there with tourists as well (treated with complete, welcoming respect) who are delighted to find such a worldly and *human* place in Midtown Manhattan. I cannot think of an Italian restaurant in NYC that I would recommend going to before you go to this one.
