Thai eatery turning out curries, noodles, and other favorites in a family-friendly space.
"A longtime favorite in Lakeview, this Thai restaurant reopened earlier in 2020 in Uptown. This is a compact menu featuring food from Central Thailand. Newbies will be drawn to the crunchy fried chicken (Larb moo tod). The salad section is eye-catching and stars the green bean salad that sits in a spicy and sour sauce flanked by hardboiled eggs, ground pork, and a few tender pieces of shrimp. The grilled pork with eggplant salads is also noteworthy. It’s cold and refreshing but doesn’t compromise on the heat level. In-On is of the most unique Thai restaurants in Chicago." - Ashok Selvam
"Randomly point at any dish on In-On Thai’s menu and you’ll hit something that’s worth ordering. That’s because everything at this casual BYOB restaurant in Uptown is great. That said, there are a few stand-out dishes you shouldn’t miss. In particular, we like the crispy fish jungle salad, the wonderfully spicy red curry, and the fantastic pad see ew—which has perfectly chewy noodles with just the right amount of char and a not-too-sweet sauce. Bright lights and usually zero background music can make eating here feel more functional than leisurely. But the friendly family running the place is charming enough to make you want to stick around anyway." - john ringor, veda kilaru, adrian kane
"Considering that this Uptown spot has bottle openers mounted on the walls, In-On Thai clearly takes being BYOB pretty seriously. More importantly, they seem to care even more about making delicious Thai food. The long menu has great curries, salads, and noodles—including our favorite pad see ew in Chicago. And some of the dishes (like the keang pa curry) are so spicy you’ll be grateful for any liquid you can find—whether you brought it or not." - josh barnett, adrian kane, john ringor
