Hubby and I came here for the first time for a different experience. Our waiter Sankel was awesome. He was very attentive and explained everything in detail. The food was excellent. We will definitely be back for the lunch buffet.

The items were less comparatively to other buffets but all the items from starters to biryani and curries everything tasted so well! One of the best I have tasted in Chicago! Loved it totally. Worth your $$!

I had a wonderful dining experience at Indian House, where the goat curry was an absolute standout—rich, flavorful, and perfectly spiced. The samosas were equally delightful, crispy on the outside and bursting with delicious filling. The service was exceptional, with attentive staff who made sure our needs were met throughout our meal. Visiting during happy hour was a bonus, making it an even more enjoyable outing!

I absolutely love this place!! The service was impeccable , big thank you to Sanket our server who was lovely. Came last year and tried this place and knew we had to come back!! Second time around it was amazing and everything we loved about it. They had happy hour 5-7 and the drinks are so good. Food was so amazing!! Will definitely be back !

Our server Sanket was so friendly and helpful with answers to my questions and explaining different dishes on the buffet. Everything we had tasted great. The vegetarian options were tasty and there were quite a few to choose from!! My water glass was kept filled and we would come back anytime we can!! Completely silly, but the ladies room here is fantastic! Pretty and always clean and has a great sink!! Always important when choosing where to eat!! 🤣 Thank you!!

Stopped into India House on a Thursday night for a happy hour drink and a quick appetizer. The drinks were fantastic, appetizer was super fresh and flavorful, and service was great. Interior is beautiful and we had a great time. I'd definitely come back for a full dinner.

Ordered 1 Papdi Chat and 1 Masala Chai from the Ala Carte Menu that made the bill to 20$ but the quantity they served is just above 40$. Although due to time constraints I have to try the above savoury items but I would recommend people to try their buffet menu. The service was so good that I had to give a 3$ tip to my server Valentina. It’s 22$ but it’s worth it. You get whole north Indian mughlai dishes served at 22$ They are one of a kind in downtown Chicago and visitors’, tourists’ first preference for relishing Indian food.

After the wonderful reviews me and my partner went here for dinner! The place is quite overpriced, like $25 for an appetiser which isn’t even tasty or decent quantity. Food: We ordered mix bhajiya, Chicken shikara, Paneer tikka Masala and garlic naan. The bhajiya was decent, the potato fritter was sooo thick and boiled potato were used for it! The chicken shikara had too much spice which didn’t really help it. The paneer tikka was sweet like Paneer Makhani. The naan was like bread thick and leavened. We’ve eaten at enough Indian places that we know this is sub par! Service : It was nice and the team was sweet

The food was excellent, from the quality to the spices. The service left nothing to be desired (thank you Jose!) The ambience was very nice, very warm, and very friendly. The prices were reasonable, and I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. If you didn't like Indian food before this restaurant, my guess is you will by the time you leave. Be sure to try the homemade mango ice cream.

Visited as part of a group of 30 and had a great time. Enjoyed the food and drinks in a more intimate closed off area that had enough tables for our entire group. The service was fantastic! Everything was amazing. Tamarind whiskey sour was delicious. We had the Lamb Pasanda and Dal Palak which were both full of flavors. The Lamb Pasanda was amazing! Jose our server took excellent care of us while we were there.

I normally am not a fan of buffets but this one was exceptional. The variety is great, the food was really flavorful and fresh and service very attentive. One in our party was a vegetarian and they had plenty of delicious options. Really a standout in the world of buffet restaurants.

The restaurant was very cute inside and can seat many people. We didn't have to wait for a table for 2 on a Saturday lunch. When you get seated, they ask if naan and chicken tandoori is good and will bring that out for you while you grab your food at the buffet bar. They have the typical food you would expect and I enjoyed everything. I think the chicken was a little dry but that may be difficult to keep moist when it's buffet style. I think there was a broad range of foods for any flavor palette.

Ordered food from here delivery. It was so good and great portion sizes but I got food poisoning... ordered the butter chicken and garlic naan.

We were wanting to have lunch at Indian restaurant and preferably buffet place. Found this absolute gem by accident!! The ambience is amazing and very pleasing. The food quality is excellent!! There were limited menu items for veg and non veg dishes. However every one of the item was delicious!! I really loved when they gave the chicken tandoori on a sizzler plate! It was the highlight. Also another thing that I noticed was warm towels were given to us after our lunch! That really was nice to clean hands on the table. Please do visit this place if you are craving Indian food for lunch or dinner :)

Food: it is high quality Indian food. Lamb stew was a little different than I expected. I was expecting more sauce and this was not.

Came here for team lunch. Great venue with a large room in the back so we get private space. The service is awesome here, Valent and Jose really take care of our needs. Good Indian food, and I like the hot grilled Chicken that brought to the table separately. They had mango ice, my favorite Indian dessert.

I've never had Indian food, so this review might need to be taken with a grain of salt HOWEVER a hob-nob kinda fella who lives in my building was raving about India House having the absolute best lunch buffet in Chicagoland. So once again, curious tastebuds sent me out to explore for myself. Note to self: I wish I arrived earlier because lunch buffet ends at 2:30p and it was almost 2pm (1:48p to be exact) when I strolled in the door. A friendly host greeted me, pointed me to the hot plates and adjacent buffet tables. I immediately scooped up a bowl of fresh white basmati rice. There were so many curry type options (vegetarian, lamb, chicken) prepared to self-serve. Honestly as a first timer, it was overwhelming but in a good way! My waiter Dhiraj asked if I had any questions and did I want tandoori chicken and fresh naan to be sent to the table separately. I said yes to both and pleasantly surprised it was included in lunch buffet price ($17.95 weekdays, $19.95 weekends with an expanded menu). The tandoori chicken arrived on a sizzling hot iron skillet with onions, garlic and chili spice soaked in yogurt. So good! I devoured it. The naan arrived in a bread- basket hot and nicely seasoned with garlic and butter. I am not even feeling guilty about eating the whole basket on my own and I could have easily asked for more to mop up all the curry sauce from my other dish. Back at the buffet, I was a bit fearful my stomach might hate me later so I played it safe and scooped up some chicken tikka masala which is on the sweeter side for curry dishes and a side of vegetables to enjoy with the jasmine rice. Yes I totally could have tried one of everything on the buffet line up but I would definitely need to wear my stretchy pants for that lol!! (Next time) Table service was really great, water glass stayed filled, super friendly and very willing to answer my many questions about the food preparation since I have to watch for food allergies. The vibe is cozy, upscale with pretty crystal chandeliers, black linen napkins and dim lighting. Yelp tip: they don't allow any food to be wrapped to go home with you on the lunch buffet, but they don't seem to mind if you stick around a while to get your money's worth. They also pull everything from the buffet promptly at 2:30p (3pm on weekends) so plan accordingly! The regular menu is a lot more expansive but at a much higher price point a la carte. So I truly feel the lunch buffet is a great value, especially if you want to sample a variety of inspired main dishes and Indian desserts. I'm already looking forward to go back so I can get more of that yummy tandoori and garlic naan goodness and expand my palate. I can see Indian food will be a nice "belly warming option" as Chicago's cooler weather moves in!

This place was so yummy and the service was amazing, had a great time with me and my girlfriends! Shoutout to our waiter Valent, super sweet and even gave us complimentary naan! Highly recommend the chicken makhani

Lunch Buffet Review: This is a classic Indian lunch buffet - we were pretty surprised by the spread of vegetarian and non vegetarian options and so as an Indian-American myself, I walked in c r a v i n g some food from the motherland and was excited by the options. I'll be honest - it wasn't anything amazing; it was an average buffet. The naans were soft and flaky albeit a bit dry, food on average was not spicy at all, and samosas were tasty but small and had a lot of air pockets in them. For my veggies out there: they had 4 veggie curries: palak paneer, dal makhani, an aloo dish, and a chickpea palak dish (vegan). Pretty average, kind of bland, BUT was much much better than the Trader Joe's Indian food I'd be falling back on. The mango lassi was delicious, more on the creamy sweet side. And the gulab jamuns were soft and perfect! I feel like I'm coming off as more harsh than I mean to be because I would recommend this as a casual lunch buffet. If you're craving a classic Indian lunch buffet, definitely go! But take it for what it is - and appreciate it for what it offers, not what it may lack in style and authenticity.

Many people come here for the lunch buffet, but I've only gone to their 5-7pm happy hour and love the drinks and shareable options. From the hh menu, you can get a blueberry mojito if you want a refreshing option. The mango mojito is strong. There are also wine and beer options. I really like the flavors of the bhel puri (seasoned Indian puffed rice) with sauces on the side. Masala fries and onion bhaji is also available. River North lacks culture so this is a great place when you want something a little different from the norm in the area. Many traditional Indian dishes are available for dinner as well. The service is fast and the servers are attentive!

We were trying to decide on where to go for brunch and the thought of having waffles or pancakes, or some iteration of eggs sounded quite boring. As a result, I started on the search to see what other other options were available for lunch. That's when we found it, and stumbled upon a buffet. Now we don't have Indian lunch buffets anymore in my hometown since the Covid pandemic. However, in Chicago, it appears that there is still the art of an Indian lunch buffet available! That's how we found India House. And when we arrived, we were pleasantly greeted and immediately seated. They came by and took our drink orders and then double checked with us to see how many of us wanted to have some chicken. After that, we were welcome to roam the buffet. We started off with the chaat station where we got to have pani poori and chutney. This was so beautifully designed. They have the puris already filled and then you get a bowl with the chutney and so you can dip your pani poori into the chutney. The pani had a wonderful mint taste. It was a lovely way to start the meal. Then came the buffet. It started with South Indian options like idli, sambhar, and medu vada. This transitioned to rice options like biryani and plain rice. From there came the vegetables: channa masala, paneer tikka masala, a cabbage dish, and then more chicken options. This was followed by a buffet option of onions, peppers, lemons, limes to complement your meal. There were so so many options to have your meal. Our first option was to have the South Indian food. Our next trip included the rice and veggie options. At our table, they brought a basket of naan along with the tandoori chicken. I think we all went back to the buffet at least 2-3 times. Everything was very tasty. It was a nice reminder of what Indian buffets use to be. We truly enjoyed our meal and had a lovely time. I can't wait to go back since it was a nice reminder that Indian buffets are alive and well!

Being south Asian, I'm pretty familiar with Indian cuisine. Living downtown, this place should be a go to for most people craving Indian/home cooked meals but this is not the place. The few times I've been here, I've been disappointed. The buffet is as basic as it gets. My last visit they only had 1 chicken/meat dish out of the ten entrees and the rest were vegetarian. The buffet changes up so every time you don't know if you're going to be getting the value. The dishes for me are quite bland when it comes to Indian food. There is a full service bar for drinks. The a la cart items are a steep $20-30 per dish. The service has been lacking every time I've been. The servers directly ask you for a tip which is quite tacky imo. The last time, he literally took my phone to show his manager about the Yelp promotion for 10% off and then didn't even apply it... The restaurant itself is clean, nicely decorated, and plenty of seating but all in all, there are better options in the loop area or you're better off just going to or getting delivery from Devon, where you won't be ripped off just for eating at an Indian restaurant in the city.

Wonderful place! The chicken tikka masala was so creamy and delicious and paired perfectly with the biryani, tandoori roti and naan. The buffet was very easy to access and had many vegetarian and nonveg options, including a very adequate mutton. The service was fantastic! Our server, Dhiraj D. was really nice and anticipated our every need with fresh naan, sizzling tandoori chicken and hot towels. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a filling and satisfying experience!

This food was great!! The garlic naan was probably the best naan i've ever had. i always love to order the paneer palak and it was so so good. my dad ordered the chicken masala and he loved it as well. we had decent service, she was fairly quick and we weren't waiting around for a while which was great. The ambiance was nice, it was well decorated, nice tableware on the tables and overall a good spot. I'd definitely come here again.

Really good restaurant. Highly recommend. The ambience is really nice and prices are reasonable. Perfect for a dinner with family or friends. Rosa and Valent's service was phenomenal. They took care of all of our needs. They are the best!

It was our first time back since the pandemic and I will never take buffets for granted again. The best one is the lunch buffet at India House. Even if you think you're too full for dessert, make sure you try the mango kulfi. I swear it's a digestif because I felt so much better after a single scoop even though moments ago I had just overstuffed myself. And they have better tropical cocktails than the tiki bar around the corner. It's so hard to find a classic piña colada, it really made my Chicago staycation to chase the best Indian buffet with the best blended drink in town. Next time I'll try the frozen tamarind margarita, made by the friendliest bartender. Our waiter, Valen, was also friendly and added to our excellent lunch experience.

Well, I haven't been to India, yet; although it's definitely on my "Bucket List". But, I have had my fair share of Indian food, all over the world! My favorite Indian restaurants to date all have been in London, England. Yes, I have, eaten at Indiene here in Chicago, but that food was from another planet (take that as a huge compliment for them). Tonight at India House Restaurants in the River North district of Chicago, London has definitely met its match! The food being brought out of India Houses kitchen was unbelievable. * First off, all six of our chosen dishes came out simultaneously which really added to the convenience of our meal * Second off, every dish had the exact heat level we asked for, and this alone is a rarity * Third off, if your sitting in an Indian Restaurant and the majority of patrons there are (of) Indian decent, this is a fantastic "Tell" for what you will be in store for........and it was! Our: Chicken Makhani, Lamb Vindaloo, Jerra Aloo, Chana Masala, Naan bread with yogurt was so damn good, us three souls were awe struck. Our dinner was outstanding! Better yet, our breakfast left overs this morning was even better (if that's at all possible) than last nights dinner (maybe not, but I'm just saying). The service was exemplary, the ambiance was great, our open window table added a real "Chicago" feel to our dinner. Yes, after almost three years living in Chicago, we have finally found our Go-To Indian restaurant, and we couldn't be happier.

For a lunch, India house is good deal. It's a buffet for a very reasonable price in the city. There is a wide selection of food for both vegetarians and meat eaters. You can also order other items on the menu if you want more than just the buffet. The staff was very nice as we had a large party and didn't have a reservation. Even if you grab one plate of food, for the price of the lunch buffet, it's about the same if not cheaper if you buy lunch somewhere else.

Came here for a lunch buffet and it was awesome. Great assortment of dishes with excellent service by waitstaff. The ambiance was relaxing with music in the background that added to the experience. Would definitely come back again.

The food is delicious. We came here twice now and everything was great. We had a friend in town so we wanted to go somewhere we could have a conversation and not be rushed out. This place was great. Our server was Jose P and he was lovely. We had the tandoori chicken, veggie Somosa, shrimp masala and chicken masala. The tandoori chicken was so delicious and the meat was tender. Looking forward to exploring more on the menu. We used to go to Tiffin on Devon but it closed so this is our new place.

I have been searching for excellent Indian food since two of my favorites on Devon Ave closed. (Vicroy and Tiffin). Finally found it. I was there for the lunch buffet and the food (and service) were terrific. They offered a large selection on the buffet and everything tasted fresh and flavorful. I can't wait to go back again. I have since spoken to a couple of Indian friends about it and they both said, "Yes, it's considered the best Indian restaurant in Chicago".

Compelled to upgrade my rating of this place after my most recent visit for a Sunday afternoon buffet/brunch. It's been a while since I had an Indian buffet as good as this! I loved they pointed me to the right vegan options in the buffet, there were atleast 3 vegan options plus vegetable biriyani which was e vegan. Really liked the food and the service today. Keep it up team!

Went for first time on father's day 2024. Plenty of variety and everything was hot and fresh when we arrived as they first opened. We were seated along the table that sat along the outside which was nice. The food was not overly spicy but had the right amount of kick. I like how they bring the naan and chicken tikka to your table, the chicken was juicy and flavorful. Service was attentive, but I really hate when restaurants stick a pos device in your face to pay, and it already defaults to a 22% tip, I mean c'mon let me tip what I want without forcing me to change it. The weirdest part was the server asking us to scan a qr code and leave her a positive Google review (to get more tables she claimed). We couldn't get it to work but she still just stood there wanting us to literally do the review on the spot. We finally just said give us your name and we'll leave a review later, which seemed to disappoint her.

We went for lunch buffet here. Loved the overall ambiance and service. They were pretty friendly. Really liked the Tandoori chicken that was brought to our table and was included with the buffet - it was delicious! Other items in the buffet were great too - really liked the Kadhai paneer and desserts. We did find butter chicken curry (chicken Makhani) a bit off - chicken had some weird smell. Definitely 1 of my preferred restaurants in Downtown Chicago. Descent ambience and good service. Tried a buffet. You will get freshly baked Naan and choice of Tandoor starters. Lassi is over priced for the quantity they provide, but food is good. Biryani's are just colored rice with no flavor, but can be fixed

Husband and I ate at India House on July 3, 2024. We ordered butter naan, chicken biriyani, and lamb Rogan Josh. The butter naan was light and fluffy. The biriyani was flavorful and perfectly cooked. The lamb Rogan Josh was sooo tender it melted in our mouths. Service by Dharji was attentive and prompt. We loved this restaurant and wish we had one in our hometown of Miami.

As a newbie to Indian food, I loved this place! I'm assuming it isn't as authentic as the real thing/spice levels were toned down a bit to fit the general palate, however this was a great introduction to Indian food to me :) Wide array of dishes, each amazing, and they bring tandoori chicken and naan to the table. Dessert table was a bit on the smaller side, wish there was more. Service is pretty standard and staff is friendly!

Came to lunch with a friend. Food was piping hot.We had veggie samosas, chicken Marsala and chicken curry. It was nice. We opted out of the buffet option. The tables are kinda close together. The bathrooms were clean as well as the establishment.

If I could put 0 stars, I would, I can not believe the service that I was dealt and racism, while visiting this restaurant Today. My friend and I visited here and we were discriminated, i do not recommend this restaurant for anyone unless you want to be ridiculed or disrespected. I feel so discriminated. I will never come back here again! I am currently waiting for the police to show up to sort out the situation. I ordered a buffet, my friend only wanted drinks. I asked her to open up my Naan bread and next thing u know they said we are charging you for 2 buffets even though she didn't eat anything! Just ridiculous! They stared at us the entire time we sat in the dining area, which made us very uncomfortable. Horrible place!

Amazing food and service. We ordered one dish and got complementary appetizers. I was chatting with the manager Mohit. Mohit is very attentive and provides excellent customer service. This is one of the best desi restaurants in downtown Chicago. If you live in the city and crave desi food, this is the place to be.

So happy to have stubbled upon India House for dinner. The food was delicious, we had the aloo palak, chicken vindaloo and Samosa -- recommend and will come back to get again. We had Valent as a sever who was very attentive and kind. Great spot!

Great place ... great restaurant.. kind people . We had the buffet on Monday . Food was fresh and good . I would call it an American version of Indian food ... spice level is like 2 and creamy . Probably targeted for American office goers . May be ala carte would have been good for me .

This restaurant is so spectacular, we decided to go back a second time before we leave Chicago. This time, we tried some new dishes. We did the same appetizer, which we loved, the one with the crispy potato tops and mint water that you pop in your mouth like a shot and the corn dish. We also tried vegetable korma, a tomato paneer & kofta. We also had the cheese-filled nan, and it was all delicious. I wish we had an India House in California! The taste is savory and delicate and even thought I consumed a lot, I feel great! Will definitely go again. Our waitress was super helpful and attentive. Her name is Shweta.
