We used to come here very often for over a decade and really enjoyed the dinner buffet. The selection was decent--chicken tikka was my favorite--the food was tasty. The naan was hot and fresh. The unlimited fresh mango lassi was a lovely added bonus.
After a hiatus of a couple of years, we returned to disappointment. I'm not sure if there has been a change in management or chef or what has happened. However, it was quite a different place. The food was just OK, my husband described it as lackluster. The ambience was downright depressing. They seem to have a brisk takeout business, but only a sad couple of individuals willing to dine in. Unfortunately, we were two of them. The floors were dirty with spilled food that, despite the presence of several bored staff, no one bothered to clean up.
The naan was still good. However, the mango lassi was horrible. It was clear that they watered down whatever that mixture was--probably to save money. It tasted nothing like the mango lassi of the past.
Add to all of this, they have doubled their prices! This lackluster meal is now $24 per person. I remember when it was $13 per person. Now I understand that inflation happens. The price of everything has gone up. And I wouldn't mind paying $24 for a buffet if food was actually good. However, it's particularly frustrating to pay that amount for substandard food, poor ambience, watered down mango flavored drink, all while knowing what it used to be for far less. Sadly, this will be our last visit to India Oven.
