"India Quality is a decades-old Kenmore Square institution that is known for its excellent North Indian food. The biryanis are a great place to start — from goat to lamb, beef, and vegetable, they’ve got plenty of options — and don’t miss the naan stuffed with green chilis, onions, or cherries, coconut, and honey." - Celina Colby

"Go to Kenmore Square’s North Indian haunt India Quality for biryani (especially the lamb) and aloo chole, a vegan dish with a base of potatoes and chickpeas. If you order your food spicy, India Quality won’t hold back. This has the same ownership as Punjab Palace, the essential spot for North Indian cuisine in Allston, where the order is lamb paneer masala (lamb and soft cheese cooked with creamy tomato sauce) or fish jalfrezi (pieces of fish cooked with mushrooms, onions, peppers, tomatoes and broccoli in a spicy sauce)." - Karen Wilber, Eater Staff

"Kenmore Square has changed quite a bit in the past 40 years. Businesses have come and gone, the T station no longer smells like dead rats, hotels and upscale restaurants have gentrified the neighborhood — and through it all, India Quality remains. The North Indian restaurant opened in 1983 and has been one of the city’s best purveyors of food from the subcontinent ever since. Our most recent order consisted of chicken madras, lamb curry, garlic naan, vegetable samosas, and chat. Everything was excellent, as it always is, and abundant — we ate off of it for a couple days. —TBD  Currently offering takeout and delivery. Google
Great food, and the overall experience between the service, vibe, and little details make it worthy of a 5th star. We ordered three dishes with lamb, chicken, and paneer and all were delicious. Came with tasty basmati rice and the garlic naan was delicious. Also they bring papadam and sauces free at the beginning. Little details were surprisingly nice: folded napkins, well prepared table, mint chocolate at the end and guava candies by the door. The staff were cool people and they provided good service.

Had dinner twice here. The waiters are talking to themselves most times in hindi but sometimes it makes you feel like they are talking about you. Nostalgic Bollywood music is playing all the time, love it! Masala chai is top notch and that too with free refills! Got samosa chat - complex delicious flavors, good portion size, decent price point. Bhel puri - the quantity is way less than I expected. Taste is okay. I would go for samosa chat over bhel. Ordered kadai paneer both times. It comes with rice so its a full meal in itself. Filling and delicious and does taste like ready to eat tomato paste gravy which I appreciate. I will visit every time i go back to Boston!

First time there and the food was excellent. It was packed but our wait was only about 5 mins. We samosas and veg pakora for starters. I had goat saag and my husband had shrimp tandoori. And you can’t leave without dessert! The owner came over to talk to us. Very lovely staff.

Google
This gem is near the top of our Quality-per-Dollar index. The place has a cozy yet elegant feel, and the staff are kind, attentive and dedicated - and the food is wonderful. Northern Indian cuisine, like other cuisines of India, benefits from the incredible variety of herbs and spices available in the region, and India Quality reflects that. The experience of the food is in the taste of it, a result of the centuries of wisdom that go into the spice combinations, plus the care and dedication of the staff. As cuisines go, Indian food's focus on the taste and texture, but not so much the look of it (that's true of all Indian and Himalayan cuisines...photos of Indian food are never much to look at), and never the whole story. You have to experience the subtle explosion of textures and flavors in your mouth. Another great feature of Indian cuisine is that they've created a wide variety of vegan and vegetarian options. It's possible to load up on supremely tasty plant protein here. The most remarkable thing about India Quality is the pricing. It almost seems as if their menu prices froze in the '90s - there are appetizers for under $5, and everything is really tasty and great. Go! You'll love it.

If you're looking for authentic North Indian food in Boston, look no further than India Quality Restaurant. The host, Dalbeer Singh, was incredibly welcoming and attentive, and the food was absolutely delicious. I can honestly say it was the best North Indian vegetarian food I've ever had. We tried some of their most popular dishes, including Saag Paneer, Malai Kofta, and Dal Tadka, all of which were bursting with flavor. The garlic naan was the perfect accompaniment, and the mango lassi and gulab jamuns were a delightful way to end the meal. We even finished off with a cup of chai, which was the perfect warm and comforting drink to wrap up the evening. Highly recommend India Quality Restaurant for anyone looking for a delicious and authentic Indian dining experience!"

Google
Im not sure what region of India this food is based off... but it is delicious food! I highly recommended the vegetarian samosas. Naan was yummy and crunchy. Ordered the chicken korma, which was good... it just tasted different than anywhere I'd ever ordered it before.

Google
“India quality” More like what quality?! Went with my 3 friends and were treated like dogs. The waiter snapped his fingers in our faces and told us in hindi to get out for idk what reason. Also another guy was acting very abruptly like throwing a to go cup on the table when we asked for one and speaking harshly. Food was ok just very small portion. Not worth it I give it 0 stars absolutely nightmare of an experience!!!

This was my first time eating Indian food in Boston, and I was not disappointed at all. The food was delicious and the staff was very kind and patient. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Great Indian food in Kenmore! Can't believe I've never been here before or even ordered take out from this spot. My family came here after a Sox game and enjoyed a variety of delicious Indian dishes. The saag, bindi, and daal were all so good. We were served quickly and the restaurant was very accommodating when two more people joined our party halfway through. The restaurant is a decent size and very clean. Would absolutely come back when craving Indian in this area again!

Hannah N.

Yelp
Delicious food! Would order again! My first time trying Indian food and I loved it!

Gina O.

Yelp
We ordered the chicken tikka masala and butter chicken with a side of samosas. It tasted good at the time because we were super hungry but the quality is okay for the price. It was very heavy meal for dinner There was a short wait to get the food and the service was fast. We ordered for takeout because it was about 20 mintiest to closing. Ambiance was casual

Chad W.

Yelp
Last 2 times I've been to Boston I've eaten here. Very solid Indian food. I love the spicy onion chutney they give you. So freaking good! The Achar (mixed pickle) is also delicious. I ordered lamb Rogan Josh tonight but I got lamb Korma instead. Didn't even care as it was very tasty. My buddy got straight up chicken curry and the gravy was spot on. Never had a bad meal here. Look forward to next time

Ellen C.

Yelp
Got DoorDash because this place was one of the places that claimed faster delivery. It was a good portion size for the price ($15.95), but I was disappointed with the chicken tikka masala (which includes rice and a side of onion chutney). The sauce had good flavor, and strange complaint here, but there was a lot of chicken breast chunks mixed in. Which usually would be a good thing, more bang for the buck, but the chicken was dry and hard to eat/chew, and since there was so much chicken, there wasn't much sauce for the rice. I ended up eating a little less than half the rice, all the sauce, and left most of the chicken behind. In a pinch it worked, but wouldn't be my go to for Indian food.

Yelp
I've been coming to India Quality for months now as my go-to Indian takeout, but this was the first time I've actually dined-in. We arrived on a busy Friday night and were seated immediately. There's nothing too special about the interior and atmosphere of the restaurant, everyone's coming here for the food. Our waiter took our order and then brought out two papdum to try dipping in their various chutneys - it was good but nothing special. For an appetizer, we were served a mixed plate of chicken, samosas, and other various fried foods. Although the chicken was a bit dry and disappointing, I did love the other dishes, and I would say it's still worth the price. For our main dishes, we split some lamb sheekh kebab masala, chicken mahkni, and garlic naan. Although the cups where the curry were served look pretty small, in reality they're pretty deep and hold a lot of food. The lamb curry was spectacular - the lamb was super soft and paired well with the creamy, tomatoey masala. The chicken curry was also very delicious, different than my usual go-tos but definitely something I'd order again. The garlic naan was SO much better than their typical takeout naan, it was warm, soft, and slightly doughy which is exactly how I like it. By the end of the meal, we left feeling completely stuffed with several containers of leftovers. I always love trying something new here and I'll be back soon!

Joyce K.

Yelp
Super solid Indian food in Boston!! We sometimes got food catered from here where I worked, and it was always super solid. Their chicken tikka masala is heavenly, especially with their naan. I will specifically crave it sometimes. Knocking off one star because I stopped in their restaurant a while back to dine in person, and I got freaked out because there was a spider on the wall next to the table. My server was very kind and came by to get rid of it for me, but it kind of ruined my experience of dining there in person.

Kimberly S.

Yelp
The Chicken Tikka Saag (hot) is ridiculously good. I crave it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (and maybe even dessert). Highly recommend getting takeout! Reasonable prices for pretty large portions. This is the place I have consistently gone to for over two years.

Devanshi B.

Yelp
Yelp browsed this place and it had 4 stars so tried it out. Also, I was craving for Biryani....so! Vegetable biryani- they asked for spice level, we said medium spicy, and I must say, it was perfect! The biryani was delicious! Vegetables- well cooked and the side raita was good too! Vegetable pakora- it was tasty but seemed a bit undercooked, coz I could taste the batter in a few pakoras. But vegetables had a good flavor. We also got the salted lassi- it is quite similar to chhaas (buttermilk) just a very thick/creamy version of it! The staff there is very decent and respectful! So +1 for that!

Aparna R.

Yelp
Very mediocre. The naan was very doughy, the butter chicken was not very flavorful, the channa masala was very creamy and very orange(?), and the bhatura was far too thick and doughy. The mixed platter was good, though! None of the food tasted bad, but it was all rather disappointing because I kept comparing it to the flavors and quality of the food that I have tried at other Indian restaurants. Can't say I would visit this restaurant again.

Olivia M.

Yelp
What we ordered: Butter chicken (mild) , chicken curry (medium spicy) chicken + mushroom dish (mild) both regular and garlic naan Everything was good, nothing was SHOW STOPPING but honestly I was satisfied, however there was very little chicken in any of the dishes.

Patrick G.

Yelp
I'm torn--I loved the food, but I was very disappointed by the service. This was my second visit and I was pleasantly surprised to see a 10% off my order deal pop up when I checked in. Sadly, the restaurant refused to honor it, stating that they only gave that deal to those who place online orders. This was not noted anywhere in the text of the deal offer. So, stop by for the food but don't hold out hopes for any deal you may be anticipating.

Peter V.

Yelp
Superb Indian food. The usual dishes are all available but easily better than most places I have been to. Also the place just seems very authentic.

Jeff R.

Yelp
The food is delicious. They make it extra spicy just the way we like it. And they're very fast and efficient when it comes to seating and bringing us our food. The staff are very kind and attentive. Definitely would recommend coming here if you were interested in Indian food. One of the best places in town.

John W.

Yelp
It's still a good restaurant but I must say, it used to be better. Something changed about it during the pandemic. I use to LOVE their food, now I just like it. I didn't change my order: Chicken Tiki masala, Chicken Korma, onion naan, garlic naan, samosa, pikora etc. It seems like the food is a bit blander, like the little kick isn't there. Don't get me wrong it still tastes ok but that's just it, o..k... The prices are pretty reasonable so that is why I have kept coming back and I haven't really found a equal or better place that doesn't charge an arm and a leg. I'll keep eating here but unless the food flavor improves, I'll always have an eye somewhere else

Beena A.

Yelp
I came in with a bit of card situation where I needed my card information to be entered manually. I called the restaurant ahead of time to make sure this was possible for them to do, and they said "yes". I understand that because it was my dad's card, this required some security measures. So, the man who rang me up asked that I call my father so he can confirm it's his card, but was talking to me in a tone that one would speak to a suspicious person in. When I called, he put the call on speaker phone. Which suddenly turned an already uncomfortable situation to an extremely humiliating one considering the volume was turned all the way up and there were other customers listening to this. It's shocking how little he cared about doing this in a respectful way and not making a scene, for my sake. I was already anxious going in, but very hungry after class, only to have left feeling even worse. I've been to this restaurant multiple times, I know the faces of the wait staff, and I was comped for my meal one time because there was a mouse running around. Speaking to me--a girl who evidently came in after a night class to eat--like I was a criminal was completely uncalled for. Really ruined my night.

Ginger S.

Yelp
The Scarlet Vetter says...I was in Boston for a night, so I looked for a great Indian Restaurant and this place was recommended. I was greeted at the door right away, and seated. My drink order was taken and I was provided with some Poppadam and great sauces and delicious chutney. The wine menu is extremely reasonable in price, with quite decent selections. In short order, my dinner selection was taken and I was on my way! First was the vegetable samosas suggested by the server-- this is in the appetizer section and comes 3 to an order. They were fabulous! Slightly spicy...warm, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. For my main, I ordered Chili Naan and Chicken Curry. Colorful and fragrant, when the Naan and main entree arrived, I was transported by just the aroma. The Chicken Curry I had ordered spicy hot, and it was just right. Not "burn your mouth, cannot taste anything ever again" unpleasant hot, but a "lingering on your tongue just long enough" hot. The rice was colorful (new experience) and provided a nice damper to the heat of the Curry. I cannot say enough good things about the Chili Naan, and that was a bit of a risk... never having ordered that type of Naan before...it was warm, soft and crispy and just stuffed with green chiles. When I could not eat another bite, my server nicely packed up the remainer and even offered to pack up extra chutney which was my favorite. I wish I lived in Boston (even though cities are just not my thing) just to be able to order from here regularly!!

Leo M.

Yelp
A trip back in time to an extraordinary Indian meal Once upon a time, I learned to love Indian food in neighborhood restaurants like this. White tablecloths, exemplary service, and curries, tandoors, and biryanis to write home about. I cannot tell you how happy I and my family were to discover that such a place still exists. We had papadum, naan, and samosas accompanied by raita and various chutneys, matar paneer, malai kofta, lamb vindaloo, the Quality biryani, and a tandoor mixed grill - all of which were delicious. Water, lassis (sweet and salted), masala chai, and a Kingfisher washed it all down. I understand they do takeout...but the service and atmosphere make dining here a wonderful experience. Do go.

Juhye K.

Yelp
Delicious restaurant overall! The service was incredibly fast, albeit we did go right at opening around 5pm so it was easy to get a table right away. The vegetarian platter was amazing, loved everything I was able to sample. The butter chicken had a very generous portion of meat, and the goat dish my partner got was the Bakra Bahar which was unique, fresh and delicious. We also ordered a side of garlic naan (which unfortunately was incredibly salty, but that's the only negative of the meal!). Would definitely recommend!

Amy Z.

Yelp
Got food delivered from India Quality Restaurant and was pleasantly surprised by the speed, price, and quality of the order. I got a lentil soup ($3.10), mixed platter ($9.95), and Royal korma ($15.95). The lentil soup was a bit watery / not my favorite (especially for delivery). However, the mixed platter and Royal lamb korma with basmati rice were both delicious!

Miguel A.

Yelp
We ordered via ubereats and the food was incredible!!! Great flavor and food arrived perfect! Just moved to Boston and will regularly order from here!

Adam P.

Yelp
The place offers great value, and has reasonably-priced lunch specials which include coffee or tea and a papadum. I've eaten here a few times, and am always satisfied. Today's chicken jalfrezi was delicious, and was served within 15 minutes.

Jean H.

Yelp
Tasty Indian restaurant! I've had the goat coconut, lamb curry, goat vindaloo, aloo paratha, and garlic naan. The goat is so TENDER, and definitely better than the lamb. I got the vindaloo in mild due to concern if the spice was too much, and it indeed wasn't spicy. Aloo paratha is a large portion stuffed with spices, potatoes, and veggies. The only thing I tried that I would NOT recommend is garlic naan, which is flat and damp. Delivery: Contactless and traditional options. Very professional and driver wore a mask!

Eleanor H.

Yelp
This place put the QUALITY in India Quality. We came in pretty late on a Friday night and were seated immediately in a very good spot. I loved that we got a nice seat even with a larger party. (we were a party of 5) We ordered drinks that came out timely and then ordered our meals. The Chicken Tikka Masala was wonderful and very flavorful and the naan bread paired perfectly. At the end of our meal we even received complementary andes mints and moist towelettes. Overall we had an amazing and delicious experience. 5 stars, totally recommend.

Alessandra H.

Yelp
Came in on a late night, very ravenous. Chicken tiki masala was very good, would recommend sharing this. Rice is multi color bc of saffron, so don't be discouraged. The servers even gave us free ice cream. Safe to say we had a blast

Thomas H.

Yelp
This indian restaurant had me at a loss for words as this food was so scrumptious and delicious. The first food that was so good was the chicken tikka masala. I loved this meal because you could choose which level of spice you would enjoy. We munched on the medium level and it was very good when paired along with rice and naan which almost makes a perfect Indian burrito. We also wanted to enjoy some drinks which came rapidly fast after we ordered them thanks to the amazing service of our waiters. Finally, to end off the night we weren't going to get any dessert but got offered free ice cream on the house which was the cherry on top for this restaurant. Overall I would 1000% percent recommend this restaurant.

Rima K.

Yelp
Has to be the most disgusting food I have ever received. Ordered beef vindaloo and chicken tandoori and I was literally eating stale and sour food. The chicken was literally like eating a card board and no flavor at all. The vindaloo was sour so sour we actually thought it was expired at all. The beef in the curry tasted stale and days old like they threw it in the sauce and microwaved it.

Tulsa H.

Yelp
Previous review still stands. We ordered through DoorDash again. Food was fine. In response to the owner's comment to my initial review--I disagree with you. Tipping is not required by law. If you read the entirety of my review, you can see that I have tipped very well and have tipped zero as well. Do NOT cherry-pick the one instance of "zero" tipping as justification or lack thereof. There's a whole discussion on this elsewhere you can find. Of course, if you're interested, I am more than happy to open discussions for others to comment.

Alicia M.

Yelp
It is a hidden gem! Great service and amazing food. Recommend the poori and nan breads and the curry dishes with goat and lamb. Definitely be mindful of your spice level, we had the medium spicy level and it was just right!

Zack E.

Yelp
Everything that I've had here is fantastic and priced nicely. I've had the butter chicken at least three times. The naan is honestly kinda weak imo, but I don't care because the food and rice are always on point

BJ C.

Yelp
Saag Paneer was on point. Ordered extra spicy. Don't get me wrong....it had a nice punch, but when u order extra spicy from an Indian restaurant, I'm looking for a 'situation,' complete with brow mopping. No brows were mopped, but was delicious nonetheless. I particularly enjoyed their basmati rice which was nicely, lightly seasoned.

Sarah S.

Yelp
It's been a long time since I've dined in at an Indian restaurant and I was very happy about the quality and pricing at this place! The Chicken Tikka Masala was very good- I loved the balance in the flavors. What really stood out however was the Saag Paneer- I loved the texture and the flavor! The Naan was more flaky than fluffy which personally I like fluffy better, but it wasn't oily and was fairly good. The staff were really nice and accommodating, wore masks at all times, and never rushed us out. Definitely come here if you are craving Indian food! Excited to come back and try more of their offerings!

Sophie C.

Yelp
Great food and value. Very good service. And the interior was comfortable and nice. We had a great lunch experience. Very excited to find this gem.

Your H.

Yelp
I ordered food from here (Chicken Tikka Masala Medium with Garlic Naan and Samosa). My stomach has been constantly hurting for 2 days now. I have never left a review for a restaurant before, and this was so bad that I had to inform other customers. When I ordered my food, the ratings were overall good but I'm very disappointed. Food didn't taste good either, and the naan didn't feel fresh as if it was microwaved

Willa f.

Yelp
My Indian classmates recommended this restaurant to me. After one attempt, I love this restaurant soooo much! I have Been here twice for getting together with my friends, without exception they all love this restaurant very much! I would highly recommend it!

Varun T.

Yelp
One of the better indian restauraunts I have ever been to. It is conveniently located in Kenmore Square and serves many Indian classics at an an affordable price. Perfect for the college student or young professional working in the city needing a quick, cheap and tasty dinner.

Helen L.

Yelp
Probably my favorite Indian Restaurant in Boston. I've mostly gotten takeout but the few times I went to the restaurant it was quiet and the service was good. I like spicy food so I usually get medium spice level. They have vegan options and their takeout is always delicious as well!

Vivek K.

Yelp
Ordered on Uber Eats. Methi paratha - couldn't find methi in the paratha. Garlic chicken - tasted boiled chicken in some gravy - didn't taste any garlick. Too much water with chicken pieces swimming in it. Achari Gobi mutter. 5-6 mutter in something that did not taste achari at all. I am from NJ therefore understand quality Indian food in the US. This restaurant has a lot of work to do to come even close to the most mediocre restaurants in NJ. Samosa is too oily. Very disappointed. Have to keep looking for a decent Indian restaurant in Boston. IMO Restaurants should not use frozen Chicken to cook! Check out Mirchi Nation in Marlborough for good Indian food. Last I ate there was before the pandemic. Hope it is still maintaining its good quality and taste!

Jean-Patrick L.

Yelp
Excellent food, very friendly service at cheaper than average prices for the area. Highly recommended!

Tuli S.

Yelp
I still love the food at India Quality BUT the service has changed a lot. They have a few new servers and we haven't had the best experience with them. One of the last times we visited my bf ordered "chicken tikka," meaning the chicken tikka masala. A new server brought it over and we said that it was the wrong item because we had meant the masala. He had an attitude about it and told us we would have to pay in full for it if we sent it back because they already cooked it. We then asked for the masala sauce on the side, and we were charged for it. It was the TINIEST amount of sauce for how much chicken came with the appetizer. Anyways, I'll be super careful with any future orders. The food is still great!

Shayla M.

Yelp
Chicken tikka was alright, but the garlic naan was literally burnt. Pretty disappointing

Brian Y.

Yelp
Excellent food with fairly good size portion. Fast and attentive service. One of the best Indian places in Boston. Good luck parking though.

Anna B.

Yelp
4.5 stars Best Indian food I've had. I have gotten take out from here dozens of times and have tried many of their dishes. Among my favorites are the samosas (always crispy!), chicken tikka masala, chicken jalfrezi, lamb vindaloo, chicken methiwala, and aloo gobhi. And it must be said that there is no better baingan bhartha than at India Quality. The missing 0.5 stars is due to the dining in experience. I felt that I got less food when dining in and the service was nothing special. Food was still excellent though!

Jessica D.

Yelp
Was visiting Boston for a work trip and got a craving for Indian. Ordered delivery from their own website to my hotel after reading several reviews for nearby places. The food I got was good but unfortunately my order wasn't complete. I called to let them know and they instructed me to contact DoorDash since that is who handles their deliveries. DoorDash has no record of it since I ordered directly from their website. Overall, disappointed in the fact that I didn't get what I ordered and they didn't seem too motivated to make it right.

Maggie P.

Yelp
Chicken Tikka Masala was 10/10! Everything I had was delicious, will definitely be coming back

Parth K.

Yelp
This is the worst Indian food I have ever had. I think all the food is frozen. No taste no salt. This is not even authentic Indian food. The owner is wasting time serving this type of food with the name of "Indian" All my order was from their special menu and everything was awful. The shop at this prime location in Boston can have something better than this fake microwaved food.

Mike B.

Yelp
Really good! Went here while on vacation with my wife, great food! Cool selection of beers too!

Jonathan H.

Yelp
Just the worst indian food I've ever eaten. Ordered through uber eats. The rice was full of orange dye. That is so 80's! In this day and age we know food coloring is not healthy. I asked for a spicy korma and they used chili powder instead of real chilis. The naan was burnt, the chicken tikka had zero flavor. The korma was not creamy. The food was not fresh. I could not eat it. I threw it out.
