The 18 Best Food Carts In Portland 2024

"The Eastport Food Carts in a fenced-off parking lot on 82nd Ave. don’t get the same love as carts in more popular (dare we say, touristy?) neighborhoods, but locals know what’s up. Don’t hesitate to ask for recommendations from the big photo grid menu at Indian Hunger Point because the owner is happy to help. We wouldn’t skip the flaky vegetable samosas, though, or the lamb vindaloo, which balances heat with vinegar tartness. " - krista garcia

The Best Restaurants on Southeast 82nd Avenue in Portland | Eater Portland

"Hiding in plain sight in a neighborhood best known for its East and Southeast Asian fare is some of Portland’s best Indian food, dished out of a humble cart in the bustling pod across from Eastport Plaza. Tender chicken, lamb, or veggies arrive in complex curries, creamy kormas, and spicy bhunas, along with crisp and fluffy naan and crunchy, peppery popadam. With 24 other carts in the pod, those in the party hankering for other options have plenty to choose from." - Alli Fodor

Google
Decent food truck with tasty Indian food. VERY overpriced for the quantity they offer. We tried Mixed Vegetable Curry and Shahi Paneer. Both items tasted good (requested for spicy, but it wasn't that spicy to be honest). They need to really improve on the quantity (or at least reduce the price), but the food is tasty though.

Me and my sister came over on New Year’s Eve and got the Lamb Biryani, Chicken curry with plain and garlic naan and an order of the vegetable samosas with a hot chai. The food was amazing and the guy working was super nice and helpful to answer our questions about the food and even made sure to ask how I liked my chai and the spice levels for both of our plates. At one point he even asked for my sister to taste test the level of spice of her chicken curry which was a plus in our books of customer service. Overall, the food is a favorite for us to enjoy and eat and would definitely recommend to anyone who likes Indian food here in Portland.

Google
This is the best Indian food I've tasted in Portland, and it's found at the Flip-Side food cart pod at Lents! I'm an omnivore, but I enjoy the vegetarian dishes here so much that I don't even feel the need to order meat dishes. I highly recommend the Vegetable Korma, along with some garlic Naan!

Google
Phenomenal food and exceptional service. I go here at LEAST once every two weeks to enjoy the chicken vindaloo. The men working always recognize me and know my order when they see me. HIGHLY recommend this delicious food!

Everything was so good 😊 and fresh I try other dishes but this was my favorite .. the mango lassi drink was so so good you have to try !!

TLDR: There is no scarcity of Indian food anywhere but if you truly want a glimpse of “Ghar ka Khana” instead of a typical Indian restaurant, this where you should go! I was skeptical to try out this food truck at first because Portland failed to impress me with Indian food so far. But even as we (me and my girlfriends) were contemplating our future, the owner welcomed us in Hindi and all smiles, so we automatically gravitated towards him. We started our order with the most basic comfort food- daal tarka and aloo curry with jeera rice. We had one spoonful of it and it was just like “Ghar ka Khana” 🤯 So we started bombarding them with more orders that I honestly lost count of how many dishes we ordered and how much we spent. Special shoutout to the owners for treating us soooo well. They gave us extra treats, papad, vinegarised onions, made chai freshly for us. I can’t stop writing more good things about them. 100/100 HIGHLY RECOMMEND and APPRECIATE the food truck and their service. Also, they apparently have a restaurant too!

Google
Walked up not knowing exactly what I was in the mood for. The owner went out of his way to bring me a sample of the Tikka Masala. I asked for the lamb with a side of garlic Naan. They made my food to my specific spice preference, and then had me try the food first to make sure I liked it before serving it to me. Amazing service and over the top QUALITY Indian food. MUST give them a try!!

Google
This man’s food is in my top three food carts in Portland! He is my go-to Saturday lunch or dinner! Not only is his food delicious, he is truly a joyful soul that radiates positivity. I’ll never stop going here. 🤙🏽 you have amazing passion and talent my friend. ❤️

Yelp
The food is always consistently good. Curry, vindaloo, biryani are always flavorful and they ask what level of heat you prefer for the spicy dishes. The samosas are my go-to food for a non meat dish. The mint dipping sauce is a great mix of flavors and a little heat. Thanks, gentlemen for a great dinner. I also have more than enough for lunch tomorrow.

Yelp
Indian Hunger Point has moved to the Flipside Bar & Food Carts on 9320 SE Woodstock Blvd Portland, OR 97266 https://www.flipsidebarpdx.com/ We always order the Saag Paneer and it is lovely. Comes with Basmati which is wonderful by itself! Friendly folk making yummy food? What could better?

Yelp
Worst Indian food, hands down. I'm usually hesitant to slam small businesses, but I'm not exaggerating when I say this is actually, the worst food I've eaten period. We kept it pretty safe/basic and ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, Vegetable Korma, and Naan. Naan: Looked great, but despite a visible effort to season the naan, it was very underwhelming and a bit doughy. Chicken Tikka Masala: 5 small pieces of rubbery chicken. The sauce tasted more like broccoli cheddar soup than anything, and that's an insult to broccoli cheddar soup. I've eaten Indian food many different places and usually order the same thing. Never had anything taste like this. Vegetable Korma: SAME SAUCE USED FOR THE CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA!! This was probably the most infuriating. Vegetables tasted frozen. The rice was rice, no complaints there. Why it had such good reviews is completely beyond me. We were so hungry, but threw it away after a few bites. Just trying to warn people: stay away.

Yelp
This is fantastic Indian food. Lamb vindaloo is perfection. It may take a while, but it is always worth the few minutes of waiting. The naan is on the thin side, more crispy than soft, but still goes great with the dishes.

Yelp
Great food, clean and tidy with the perfect service. We wanted Extra Spicy Shrimp Biryani and they made sure we had a taste test to make sure it's to our liking

Yelp
This is the best Curry and Tikki Masala you can get for the price. Great service every time I go and done pretty quickly. Good amount of curry and rice and always have to get Garlic Nan. This is my go to Indian place if I wanna get it quick and to go. I highly recommend trying this place if you love Indian food.

Yelp
I had the Bhindi Masala and it was one of the best I have had. My photo has it mixed with some other food that I got from another cart so it's a lil misleading. Sorry. But the spice on this was perfect and so flavorful. I am definitely a fan and will be coming back here to try more of their food.

Yelp
So good, best curry in PDX!! I especially like the Chicken Goa, extra spicy. Great service as well. Highly recommend!!

Elizabeth C.

Yelp
I can't believe the Eastport Food Carts are closed. Where is Indian Hunger Point located now? Their food is so delicious and they are such a kind family.

Remy D.

Yelp
The food was incredible. I had the lamb jalfrezi which was extremely flavorful and spicy. The service was good and the food was ready quickly.

Yelp
This place is SO good!!! Giant samosas, really yummy veggie pakora (perfectly fried), amazing chutney, and the owners are super nice. We got a delicious indian food feast with plenty of leftovers... and a motherload of chutney. Great spot! Almost hate to share it because I don't want to wait in line, but this spot deserves it!

Yelp
Great place for authentic delicious Indian food. Awesome personal service. Best in Portland. Highly recommend.

Valerie C.

Yelp
Amazingly delicious food, fast service and large portions! Love this place and always come back for the biryani!
google avatar

Melanie T.

Yelp
We stopped in on Christmas afternoon to check out the food carts. So glad to have found this place. We had the most delicious, biggest vegetable pakodas ever! Thank you! We Will be back to try more food on the menu
google avatar

Andrew A.

Yelp
Owner is not very pleasant, other guy at least smiles, but is also sneezing all over the place. No drink prices, so $5 for a small - odd tasting - Mango Lassi.
google avatar

Kehau C.

Yelp
I love Indian food. I was craving it and found this food truck. I will be dreaming of the food. This is my new go to place for Indian food. I didn't even get anything that was recommended so I am super excited to try them next time. The garlic naan was so delicious.
google avatar

Eero K.

Yelp
I enjoyed my food! I asked for spicy and they would use disposable spoons to hand me a little sauce to ask what i thought and then adjust it for me- the men were very sweet and my curry was very spicy. The garlic naan was bland but I didn't particularly mind.

Annie R.

Yelp
Saturday lunch time and this food cart pod was busy with lots of options open. Indian Hunger Point opened on time and are consistently open as advertised (rare with food carts!) And they didn't disappoint! Lots of vegan options available. Had to ask but then the gentleman gave me a paper menu that has all the vegan options listed. I got the Saag Chana- good portions, deep and delicious flavor. He even had me try a bite while cooking to make sure I was satisfied with the price. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Solid dependable spot for chicken tikka masala ( served with basmati rice) and garlic naan ( our very favorite place has a lot more fresh crushed garlic on it, but theirs is good too). Good spice level/ we like spice! Hot and fresh, prices reasonable and good portions. Need to take a pic at some point... also like the fact they're open 7 days a week ( no lunch hours Monday I think)...
google avatar

Mara C.

Yelp
I ordered Vegetable Biryani and Basic Naan. Asked for minimum spicy. Didn't enjoy either. Veg Biryani was still too spicy. Could be more vegetables. It was also sticky, not fluffy, like a mush. Biryani is not supposed to be mushy. Tried authentic Indian food before, both in India and in US, as well as cook it myself. Naan was just ok. Raita that came on the side was ok too. Won't be ordering here again.
google avatar

Steve V.

Yelp
The chicken tikka masala was some of the best I've ever had. I asked for medium heat and before finishing it the chef offered me a taste to see how I liked it. It wasn't face melting hot, so I asked for it to be a little spicier. It was dynamite! The korma was equally awesome. Last but certainly not least were the vegetable pakora. They were hands down the best I've ever had. Having said that the mint sauce was the cherry on top!
google avatar

Michael V.

Yelp
I really like the lamb curry here. It is exactly like what I ate in India. Its spice level is spot on and the portions are generous.
google avatar

Feng H.

Yelp
Always like going here - all their veggie dishes I've tried are delicious and the man who is usually working is friendly and fast. Sometimes their naan is a little dry, but otherwise, no complaints!
google avatar

Jessica H.

Yelp
Really really wanted to like this place. BOTH times I tried they were out of Naan, and BOTH times it wasn't disclosed until my meal was almost ready. Ordered a basic tikka here and it was not spicy at all, ordered it medium. The second time, ordered the same thing, and was told he was out of spicy, so I got a side of chili flakes put in with my order. Bazaar. The guy that runs this place is not nice, I won't be back, sadly. Just bad. A lot of rice too.
google avatar

Don B.

Yelp
Wow. I'm impressed. You wouldn't figure it by the name, but this place is legit. I got the vegan Aloo Mutter and Aloo Kulcha here and it did not disappoint at all. I asked for spicy and he delivered on said spice. Had me taste it while he was cooking it to ensure it was both as spicy (hot) and as spicy (flavor) as I wanted it. Rice was solid and the bread was good. A friend got the chicken tikka and said it was among the best he ever had. His garlic naan, however, was undercooked. Impressive that they have a tandoori oven in the cart. For sure. Definitely excited to come back for more!

Yelp
Okay I JUST finished eating and am already posting a review. THAT'S how good this place is! We had garlic naan, vegetable samosas, channa masala, saag paneer, and chicken biriyani. Sooo amazing. I went off the reviews and they weren't wrong. Dont even think about it, go ahead and place your order!

Saasha J.

Yelp
Ok it must be a bad day for their chicken tikka masala, according to these reviews. It tasted like butternut squash soup with some chicken pieces in it lol. C'mon, I can make it better than that! The garlic naan was delicious and based on the other reviews, sounds like I just bought the least traditional option to pair it with. I'll come back, but def try something else next time.
google avatar

Aaron R.

Yelp
Just moved to Portland and this is easily the best Indian food I have found including restaurants or food carts. Run down here and meet this creative chef who makes delicious food! Amazing!!
google avatar

Neil C.

Yelp
We ordered the saag chicken and a extra side of naan bread and it was delicious! We will be coming back!

Kevin W.

Yelp
New favorite place to get delicious Indian food! We have loved everything we have tried. I am so glad we found this food cart on our side of town. We used to have to go pretty far into Portland for comparable food. I think this food cart is better than those anyway. Staff are very nice too!

Becca D.

Yelp
Their chicken curry did not taste like curry at all???? It had cubes of chicken in it and tasted like squash. The dish I got was good (lamb vindaloo) but my friends got the curry and they did not like it.
google avatar

Marisa J.

Yelp
This food cart has the most delicious Indian food we've found since our old favorite closed. Try the saag. Biryani and samosas!
google avatar

Haley W.

Yelp
I wish I had pictures of this delicious spot but always end up inhaling everything!! The chicken goa curry is ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL!! The chicken tikka masala is bangin, the naan is bomb - get garlic!! I find myself trying to check out new carts but always end up ordering here! It's so good!!!
google avatar

Crisp Y.

Yelp
absolutely incredible food. the chicken korma is to die for!! good price too, comes with rice!
google avatar

Lisa K.

Yelp
We are sort of developing a bad addiction to this cart. The chicken tikka masala is outstanding as are the lamb wraps- we want to try more items but just can't stay away from our favorites
google avatar

Jennifer P.

Yelp
Got the korma mild. It was tasty. Im pretty picky about Indian and have no "favorites" in portland. Only in beaverton and Vancouver. Naan was good- a bit thinner than im used to. The star was the vegetable pkora. His style was more of a dumpling versus fried veggies in batter. Great service. Will be back

Isaac H.

Yelp
I am disappointed about the chicken wrap, he used tortilla instead of naan, but the menu said wrapped with fresh naan. Tortilla in Indian food?!!

Le S.

Yelp
We are Indian food fanatics! Some of our favorite places in portland are just not what they use to be. Someone has turned us on to this spot and it has not disappointed! We only have had vegetarian options. The portions are very generous and a couple dollars cheaper than other spots in town. The owner is very friendly and they always check in the spice level. Would highly recommend!

Tom Q.

Yelp
This is the ultimate best food in the state of Oregon! Huge portions, freshly cooked in front of your eyes by an Indian chef. Best Indian food outside of India, although I must confess I've never been there. I'm sure that they won't be able to make lamb biryani like this even in India. Namaste
