The 30 Best Restaurants In Wicker Park - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Indian Paradise is going to become your new go-to Indian restaurant in the neighborhood. This casual BYOB spot has a long menu that focuses on North and South Indian dishes, and Indian Paradise doesn’t shy away from spice. The lamb vindaloo has all the vinegary heat you’re hoping for, and the sweet malai kofta has just enough kick to make you glad you ordered extra naan. They have biryanis and a variety of rice sides, like kashmiri, tumeric, or peas pulao. Just know that rice doesn’t come with your meal, so you’ll need to order that separately." - sam faye, adrian kane, john ringor

Google
A solid four out of five. The crispy onion pakora was a great starter. Our entrees were great but not mind blowing. Friendly service. A good option in the neighborhood.

Google
A great experience. The waiter was very kind and accommodating. The appetizer was fresh and flavorful. The curry was so good as well. They have a good variety of South indian dishes, which is very noteworthy. Large portion sizes and a welcoming ambiance in the wicker park neighborhood. Highly recommend this place 💫

Google
We love this place. The food is the best Indian food in Chicago in my humble opinion. So flavorful and the staff is so friendly. We always get complimentary drinks which is a plus!! The best addition to our neighborhood!:

Steven Hamburg

Google
The food was amazing; the chicken 65 is the best I’ve ever had! The staff were friendly, however, insufficient. Like many restaurants, they’re short-staffed, which resulted in very slow service (this is not why I docked a star). I docked a star because most Indian restaurant’s (this one included) entrees consist of sauces / gravies. The gravies are so delicious that I look forward to consuming every drop by eating them with rice. Unlike most Indian restaurants, rice was not included in the cost of each entree (there was an ~$5 charge if you wanted rice). We ordered rice, however, the portion provided was insufficient for the 3 entrees ordered. This was very disappointing as we didn’t want to spend an additional $10 for rice. This stated, once again, the food was delicious and I will return. Perhaps I’ll arrive with some of my own basmati rice in a bag :-).

Google
The food, service, and place in general is amazing!! We had the onion pakora, paneer masala, garlic naan, raita, and paradise black tea. All of it was delicious and so fresh, and the servers were so attentive and very welcoming and kind. Everything came out very quickly, and was so delicious. I will definitely be back!!

Mia Nissen

Google
A happy discovery! Great portion sizes and great flavor. Can’t get enough of that butter chicken. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
So, I really wanted to like this place. It's hella cute! I loved the onion pakora, BUT it was hair in my food. I was pretty blown after that. Can't really say how the chicken tikka masala tasted after that. The naan was cool though. Zoom into the pics. SMH. So annoying. Glad I don't I live in Chicago.

Yelp
We ate at and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. We eat Indian food frequently, but had fallen into the habit of visiting old favorites instead of reaching out to other local spots. I am so glad we changed this. The dishes were all delicious, but here are a few things that stand out: The naan was the best I've ever had, boasting a delicate crispiness that set it apart from any other naan I've tried, and I've eaten a lot of naan. Each bite was a perfect combination of texture and flavor. There was a deleicate crispines on every bite that I don't think I've ever had so perfect. My kids both got butter chicken of different spice levels. Oh My God - the sauce was on an absolute different level than I've had before. It had a richness and depth that truly stood out, a presence that was almost confusing - it was just steps above any I've had before, while still being exactly what you'd want from butter chicken. Our server was kind and soft-spoken, and she genuinely seemed interested in ensuring we had the best experience possible. Her attentiveness and warmth left a lasting impression, and she was a highlight in a visit filled with highlights. The serving sizes were generous, and the ingredients were of impeccable quality. Indian Paradise exceeded my expectations, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience.

Yelp
I ordered the Garlic Naan, basmati rice, and Lamb Curry. The garlic Naan was definitely the best Naan I have ever had. The Lamb Curry was delicious and spicy Our waitress was very soft spoken and so we had trouble hearing her. Pretty casual environment with authentic Indian food. They don't serve alcohol here, but apparently it is byob. Will definitely bring a bottle of wine next time!

Yelp
Mango chicken- 3/5 (too sour for my liking, won't order again) Chicken tikka- 4.5/5 (delicious)

Yelp
I'm feeling hungry just looking back at the photos of the food here at Indian Paradise. Everything was well-portioned, especially the lamb biryani. Here's what we ordered: Chicken Tikka Masala: So good and buttery. I have to come back for this! Palak Paneer: Very flavorful, and I love the generous amount of cottage cheese in there. Every bite tasted amazing. Garlic Naan: Mandatory to pair with the main dishes, no complaints. Lamb Biryani: HUGE. We definitely overordered as it was way too much food for 2 people. Loved this too. Crispy Onion Pakora: On the house! I've never tried this dish, and it was a pleasant surprise from the owners. Loved how crispy and airy this was--definitely a great appetizer. Most definitely will come back for the great food, generous portions, and personable owners!

Yelp
Great food! The chef nails the chicken korma each time. He always delivers on the Chana masala. We tried the onion naan and it was fantastic! love the ambiance! The Indian music is always on point. The service is fantastic!

Yelp
We came here on a pastry and dumpling crawl. What a wonderful way to start off the food tour! We had Keema samosa and Veg samosa here. It came with the usual fresh chutneys. The samosa were nicely seasoned and fried perfectly. Would highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Great neighborhood restaurant. The lamb curry and mango chicken is outstanding! The apps were extremely tasty as well. The food is A++. The staff is very nice and on top of it. We'll be back for sure, hopefully to enjoy the patio. Oh, and it's byob so being able to bring a bottle of wine to dinner makes it convenient.

Yelp
We made a reservation for last Wednesday 5/29 for 7:35p via Open Table. Went to restaurant and it was closed. No sign of anyone in site, chairs turned over on tables, etc. Their website says they are open Mon, Wed, Thurs nights starting at 4p. I get that extenuating circumstances can arise. But please, if you have to close, remove the ability to make a reservation. It would have saved us a long drive over to you and then a quick pivot with a hungry kid in tow to feed the family.

Yelp
What a great BYOB spot! Delicious food, friendly service, and cozy seating. Stopped by for a low key birthday dinner and ordered way too much because it all looked delicious. Saag shrimp was probably my favorite. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Delectable. Let's just start there! Located in wicker park on the corner of north Ave sits this beautiful Indian establishment. They have a spacious indoor ambiance to fit you and your friends. It was Incredibly empty around 6:30 when I arrived which we didn't expect. But hey more room for us!. My mentor and I chose to order an appetizer of vegetable samosas which are huge and super filling. For the entrees, you should know it is A la carte so rices and naans are to be ordered in addition should you choose to indulge. We ordered the palak paneer, navaratan korma, lamb roganash, plain basmati rice and tandoori roti. There is no best dish - they are all phenomenal and highly recommended to try. They are huge enough to share. My favorite of each dish are the sauce. This establishment does an incredible job of stewing and seasoning it. This is authentic and not a rushed job. I will be returning and order other entrees and try new items.

Yelp
Great service, server was very friendly. The whole table got butter chicken and garlic naan and it was fantastic. Would highly recommend if you're looking for an Indian spot.

Yelp
This place has a nice vibe, lots of natural lighting and nice decor. The staff were friendly as well. We got the haryali chicken and some paneer masala with naan and rice. The food was good! I really liked the flavor of the paneer masala. Overall I feel like it was pretty consistent with my expectations, everything was good, and I would go back if I'm in the area.

Nolan D.

Yelp
This is the best Indian spot in Chicago, without a doubt. I've had 15 different palak paneers in the city, this one is by far the best. The Chana Masala is also fire. We like medium spicy and it hits so perfect, every time. We live in the neighborhood and have been here 25 times since we moved 2 years ago. The Chicken Tikka Masala is also the best tikka masala i've ever had, the sauce is perfect. Turmeric rice is also a great side. The service and ambiance is also great. Would recommend this over anywhere.

Yelp
It was our first time trying this restaurant , their food was quick amd so delicious, their Service was excellent, the Music was great. We got some good appetizers on the house. We will come back for sure!

Erica K.

Yelp
Some of the best Indian around. Food always comes out hot, great flavor, attentive service. Great dine in (with a patio!) and take out. My go-to spot.

Michael D.

Yelp
Incredible Indian Cuisine! The wife & I initially came over to this part of town to hit up HANDLEBAR again, but rolled the dice on Indian Paradise! Awesome food!
google avatar

Megan K.

Yelp
I have a very short list of Indian spots that I deem worthy of a 5-star review in Chicago. We've ordered takeout from here a few times but decided to visit in person last night and the expereince was even better. Simply put, the food and service were both fantastic. Thank you Indian Paradise, we are so grateful to have you in the neighborhood.

Elisa T.

Yelp
Excellent food, very nice vegetarian friendly menu, pleasant atmosphere and lovely waitstaff. All good! Highly recommended.

Tenzin T.

Yelp
Food was delicious and the service was amazing! would recommend the chicken tikka masala and the black tea. Will definitely be back next time!
google avatar

Kendall L.

Yelp
Food is pretty decent. Only complaint is you have to buy rice separately. This is the first Indian restaurant I have been to that the meals do not come with rice.
google avatar

Reeta S.

Yelp
I literally order from here multiple times in a month :) The vegetable samosa with the sauces are delicious. I've had the Paneer Tikka Masala & Bhindi Masala , while both good ...the paneer tikka masala has soo much flavor, although not much of a spicy dish. Please don't forget the garlic naan! It's affordable and delicious ... one of my favorite places.

Passang T.

Yelp
I ordered butter chicken, garlic naan, gobi Manchurian, mutton briyani and lassi. Food taste good, but gobi Manchurian taste more like orange chicken which is chewy. I wish Gobi Manchurian to be a little gravy.

Yelp
Newly opened Indian restaurant in Wicker Park/Humboldt Park area. Indian Paradise has just won the spot of our go-to Indian restaurant in the neighborhood and I'm thrilled to have amazing Indian food nearby. There are so many dishes I want to try on the menu and we'll definitely be back but everything was delicious!! We ordered samosas, butter chicken, lamb masala, herb rice and garlic naan. The butter chicken was tender and the sauce flavorful and mildly spicy, perfect to eat with rice and naan. They recommended the herb rice and wow, it blew me away. It was the perfect accompaniment to the meal and the Garlic naan was the light, buttery and flaky. The lamb masala was a bit spicier but soooo good, love the seasoning. Everything was plated beautifully. The mango lassi was not too thick and tasted like real mango! We'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing food and service! Abu (the owner) was the most welcoming and kind and he took the time to chat with us after we had finished. We order samosas, spicy naan, roti, lamb vindaloo and chicken tikka masala. Everything was absolutely delicious! We live very close and will certainly come back (many times)! I hope this restaurant is here to stay, what a great addition to our neighborhood! Thank you Abu for the hospitality!

Yelp
Sadly, downgrading my previous 5 star review. Ordered take out again and we were really disappointed by the quality of the naan. It seemed like it had been cooked days before and reheated. It was stale, dried out and hard like a cracker. It was also a third of the size of naan you get from most restaurants. I don't know how they justify charging over $4 for that. We also noticed that 2/3 of the gulab jamun were hollow inside and the tamarind chutney had a weird gelatinous texture....very strange. Our curries were all good and flavorful. We tried lamb tikka masala (the favorite), malai kofta, and chicken chettinad. They were all really flavorful and perfectly spicy without killing our tastebuds. Our entrees came with the plain basmati rice. The veggie samosa were fine (minus the weird chutney). I'm sad writing this update because I really wanted this place to be my go-to Indian takeout. I hope they work on bringing the quality back up.

Yelp
Great place. Excellent rogan Josh and other dishes per my partner who spent two summers in India. Delicious salt and mango lhassi. They were doing a lot of takeout orders so others must like it, too.

Liz C.

Yelp
Hate to leave a negative review cause I know how difficult it is in this climate. We went for dinner on Wednesday night, and there was 1 other group there. Hostess and server were nice. It's BYOB, so we brought our own wine and they got us glasses. As soon as we opened the wine, the flies came out of nowhere. Not just 2 or 3 like you might expect, but over a swarm of over 20+ fruit flies. We landed up moving across the restaurant, but it wasn't much better. We tried to put out a glass of "sacrificial" wine to draw them away but it didn't help. I attached a photo where you can see them all over the glass. The waitress kept saying it was weird about the flies, but didn't seem bothered by it which is crazy for how many there were. We landed up asking to have our food to go instead of eating there. I was a little surprised that they didn't do anything for our trouble (free nan or comp something), or an apology. As far as the food, we got chicken tikka masala, lamb saag, turmeric rice, and garlic naan. The entrees don't come with rice, and side of rice were 6-8 dollars, so adds up quickly. The naan was fresh, and the food was good which is why I am giving 3 stars.

CrossCaptures P.

Yelp
we got takeout and the flavors were immaculate! nothing tasted lackluster even after taking it all the way home. the spicy garlic naan is a must have! and the mango lassi was so smooth and rich. I would definitely take a trip back up to eat inside. service was great as well. place was clean and everyone was kind and very accommodating.

Tamar M.

Yelp
Fantastic food and great service. Fun to do in a group. The presentation is really lovely and the price is good.

Madiha R.

Yelp
I visited the restaurant and ordered garlic naan and paneer butter masala it reminded me of my good old day in India food was awesome and the interaction with the staff was cooperative the one from staff suggested me to have this dish thanks to her.

Djones D.

Yelp
Food was awesome I enjoyed the ambiance very friendly staff.the restaurant was clean I ordered butter chicken it was fab

Dave S.

Yelp
Not sure how they got decent reviews. I'm a professional chef and this is not good Indian food whatsoever!!
google avatar

Induja K.

Yelp
We got gobi Manchurian and malai kofta. The malai kofta gravy was ok, nothing special but the kofta ball was bland. The gobi Manchurian was also very ok. The naan we ordered was also slightly burnt. I was annoyed that the plain rice did not come with the curry and had to be ordered separately.
google avatar

Sandra C.

Yelp
Went here today with a friend. The food was fresh and tasted great! We had asked for the palak paneer to be made spicy and they did. If you like good Indian food and friendly staff this is definitely a place you should try!
google avatar

Sowmitra N.

Yelp
Food was on point! It is clear that the chef took care and effort in preparing well balanced dishes. Highly recommend, you won't be disappointed! We had the following dishes - mango lassi (tastes fresh and not processed) - naan (thin and we'll flavored) - kofti maknahi (kofta was on point and the gravy was perfect) - gulab jamun (I hardly ever like this at restaurants, but it tasted home made and fresh at this restaurant)

Jabreea J.

Yelp
New to town and decided to give this place a try because of the positive reviews. For starters, we ordered the keema samosa (non-veg) and gobi manchurian (veg). For entrees, the lamb roganjosh and lamb korma with turmeric rice (enough for 2ppl). We also tried the butter naan and paratha. Everything we ordered was delicious! This will definitely be our go-to Indian restaurant. Takeout seems to be the most popular option, but we chose to dine in. The restaurant looks great, the staff was very friendly, and the food was served hot. For out of town folks, I would say this place is a hidden gem. Definitely rivaled the of Indian food I love so much (from the Bay Area)!
google avatar

Sydney N.

Yelp
New Indian place in the neighborhood is great! Friendly service, nice, new interior (and bathrooms), and delicious food. The roti and chicken tikka masala were excellent. I was surprised the entrees didn't come with rice, but after looking at the photos I took of the menu, there are separate sections for rice and breads. Luckily the roti paired very well with the chicken & sauce. Will definitely return!
google avatar

Joe S.

Yelp
I wish I could give this place 6 stars!!! I live right across the street and was so excited for a new place in the neighborhood and could not be more pleased with having Indian Paradise as part of our Wicker Park family. I've been a few times and have had the Butter Chicken, Tikka Masala, garlic naan, mango lassi, gobi manchurian, and chili manchurian. EVERYTHING IS DELICIOUS! Also the owner, Abu, is really cool, funny, and kind and goes out of his way to make sure everyone has a great experience, whether they're dining in or taking out. Welcome to the neighborhood, Indian Paradise!!!
google avatar

Jason V.

Yelp
I have tried so many Indian places everywhere and this is by FAR the best! Someone recommended this place in a social media group and said it was new, so I gave it a try! I was a bit leery of a new place, but they were 100% spot on. We ordered Paneer, Kadaci Chicken, Aloo Gobi, and Vegetable biryani rice and the chef knows what he/she is doing! The Vegetable Biryani rice is the hands down the best I have ever had!! They had the the most amazing spices and care that I was really impressed! My friends said the exact same thing and said it was really really good! I have eaten Indian food all through out the world and this is absolutely amazing! I am so glad it's nearby, but this is my favorite Indian in all of Chicago! YUP I said it- best place in Chicago! It's wayyyy better than Rooh - Michelin Star Restaurant with more Authentic experience for Indian food! I definitely want to go in person since this was only take out that I did.. I wished they used Metal Aluminum to-go boxes instead of plastic - But otherwise. BRAVO! BRAVO! 5+ Stars
google avatar

Brett L.

Yelp
Food is full of flavor and consistently good.
google avatar

Beth G.

Yelp
Delicious food, friendly service. We had the keema samosas, garlic naan, lamb roganjosh with herbed rice and dal makhani. Absolutely recommend all but the lamb roganjosh was my favorite. (Forgot to take the photo before we dug in!)
google avatar

Mattison A.

Yelp
Glad to have this place in the neighborhood! Everything was so good & it was interesting to see that they had some unique takes/flavors on common dishes, which was really refreshing! The eggplant and chickpeas were AMAZING. I have never had eggplant (which is one of my favorite things to order at Indian places) like their baingan bharta before. It was nice to have a bunch of rice sides to choose from as well and a ton of appetizers, including vegan ones. Everything was presented very pretty as well. The servers were all really nice and the portions were huge, we had 3 meals worth of leftovers.

Scott K.

Yelp
Very good food and service with generous portions. Pleasant atmosphere. Try it! Keema Samosa Paradise Chicken

Brian F.

Yelp
By far the best authentic Indian food in the Chicago area. Veggie dishes, lamb, chicken are all amazing. You will be coming back here for your Indian fix after you try this place. We are lucky to live close enough to the restaurant we can walk in. If you chose to eat in you have BYOB to look forward to as well! The service and staff are extremely warm and hospitable. Your journey for great Indian food is over. You'll enjoy whatever you order...(and try a rice dish, herbed rice is amazing)
google avatar

Phillip D.

Yelp
Several people on our neighborhood Facebook page were raving about this place. So we decided to check it out. It did NOT disappoint. This was the best Indian food that we've had since we moved to Chicago! Plus a very friendly and professional staff. We will definitely be back again and again. Just remember they are BYOB.
google avatar

Jack K.

Yelp
I had heard great things about Indian Paradise (Including a woman from SE Asian who told me it was her new favorite Indian place in Chicago), and it did not disappoint. I ordered takeout for lunch: Lamb curry, side of herb rice, side of garlic naan. The curry was excellent. Great flavor with a good amount of heat. The lamb was braised perfectly- not dry at all. The herb rice was good, but in retrospect, probably not worth spending the extra $7 for since the curry came with a side of white rice. The garlic naan was incredible-- clearly fresh off the grill. Prices look a little high, but portion size is also large-- I easily got 2 meals out of my order (with plenty of rice to spare). Overall it lived up to my very high expectations and I'm excited to make it a regular spot and try more things on the menu.

L L.

Yelp
I have had Indian Paradise take out 10 or so times since they opened. Initially everything was delicious and fresh and I was thrilled to have a solid take out spot close by. However, as time has gone on, the entrees have become watered down and flavorless and the rice is always stale. So frustrating when a place is initially delicious but decides to cut corners. The tadka dal used to be rich, thick, and such a winner. Tonight, it was thin, grey, and unsavory. I would love to have this place as my go-to on busy nights but after tonight's meal, I will likely look elsewhere. SO DISAPPOINTED!
